Astor realized the potential in selling
furs and quickly sought to become the
most powerful trader. He quickly started
his business up in Montreal and the other
Great lake regions .
He sought to monopolized the industry
with help and approval from the United
States Federal government.
3. Fur trading in North
America was regulated
by Great Britain which
made Fur Trading
illegal in America.
Britain had the right to
approve the furs being
sold, which also meant
the risk of seizure on
over sea voyages.
4. Quickly securing his position as
leading Fur Trader established his
own fleet of carrier ships and
ventured to Foreign lands like Russia,
China and even Colombia, to trade
with high officials.
Astor now had protection in foreign
lands and seas, allowing his ships to
travel freely and undisturbed.
5. Astor had no time to waste with
Foreign restrictions so he bought
command post in Britain, Canada
and some areas of South America.
Now he had full control of his
business.
Astor became one of the most
wealthiest men in all of America
