1. Target Audience
Within this document I hope to assess and evaluate my target audience for my chosen song:
Bird Set Free by Sia. Thus I hope to moreover, as a result, insure my music video effectively
targets and connects with my audience effectively.
I have completed a survey in which is attached within this document to help aid my
understanding and help construct a truthful target audience for my chosen song…
Assessing a specific target audience for my song is not only difficult but nearly impossible.
Within the genres pop and electropop (which is the genres in which my song falls under)
there is a wide range of groups who would listen to the music… Commonly Sia’s music is
targeted to that of the older generation and this is due to her mature lyrics and meaning
behind her songs. However, this does not mean the younger generation does not listen to
her music/my chosen song. This is evident when her songs feature in the top charts and are
clearly on the younger generations playlists everywhere.
Personally Sia is becoming more and more popular. She is not a new artist and has been
around for many years. Thus explaining why, she already has a very large fan base and
moreover aids the idea that the target audience for my song is very large.

3. Statistics
Above and below are some examples of data which I have collected through research and
my target audience surveys when researching elements regarding the audience’s reaction of
music. This has been really useful as it has allowed me to analyze and develop ideas
regarding what the audiences wants and desires are.
I have additionally found out the typical age in which electric pop/pop is listened to: 25-35 is
the most popular. I was additionally able to find out the popularity of electric pop in
comparison to other music genres. All this information has aided me in creating a better
understanding in regards to my music video creation.

4. Gender
On a biased view, I would like to think that this song (Bird Set Free) is
targeted more to the female viewers. This is because the lyrics within
all her songs are commonly perhaps considered more relatable to that
of the female viewers and thus becomes more of a female audience to
her music. This, however is a massive assumption and can be
completely contradicted. This song can, of course, attract that of the
male audience and this group should most definitely not go untargeted
as they are a large part of my target audience….
Age
The typical age of someone who desires to listen to electric pop/pop music is that of 15-45.
This is wide age gap as this type of music can be attracted and applied to a wide target
audience. This does not prevent other aged people from listening to this style of music and
therefore one could extend the targeted age for this music genre to both younger and older.
Groups of audiences
This type of music tends to attract that of
individuals and that of groups. This style of
music can be played within the background
at events or at social events. All of Sia’s work
if very emotional and all audiences can
connect with it on different/personal levels.
Typical traits of the target audience are as follows…

A brief description of the female target audience avatar…
This is my representation of the stereotypical female target audience for my music video;
which is the same therefore for my chosen genre of music. Personally someone who would
listen to ‘Bird Set Free’ is someone who appreciates pop and electric pop. She may listen to
additional music within this genre including the likes of Lady Gaga, Flume or Lana Del Ray.
The girl would be clothed in modern popular styles. This is because the genre is a little
mainstream and therefore will incorporate the likes of these elements. Overall she would be
brand aware and take care for the likes of her appearance. Her interest will incorporate the
likes of music and listening with friends. She will be interested in festivals within the
summer and have a lot of interest for concerts and listening to the music loud on a digital
device. In regards to film, she would prefer to watch the main blockbuster films rather than
the indie/ independent films. It is also plausible that she presents herself in a way that
conforms to society… She therefore listens to the likes of Sia as a release.
