Miguel de Cervantes' first book, La Galatea, was published in 1585. It examines love through the stories of pastoral characters and references contemporary literary figures. Though it enjoyed modest success, it was not reprinted and the planned sequel was never published. The story follows the shepherd Elicio who loves the shepherdess Galatea but her father wants her to marry the rich shepherd Erastro. Elicio tries to prevent this marriage from happening. The work contains additional minor stories and is set along the shores of the Tagus River in Portugal.

2. La Galatea was Miguel de Cervantes’ first book,
published in 1585. Under the guise of pastoral
characters, it is an examination of love and contains
many allusions to contemporary literary figures. It
enjoyed a modest success, but was not soon
reprinted; its promised sequel was never published,
and presumably never written.

can be sumarised as:
• Elicio is a shepherd that is enamoured of
the shepherdess Galatea, but her father,
Aurelio, wants her to marry with the rich
Lusitanin shepherd Erastro. Elicio tries of
avoid Aurelio to not send Galatea to
Portugal. Apart from this love story, along
the work happens more secondary stories.
• The story is located somewhere is Tajo´s
shores.
