1. Burnt church – summary
A new teacher comes to a small town in Georgia. A teacher like her was suspicious because
she was sophisticated and could be working in a big city like London or New York.
At first the people of the town are very pleased with the new teacher and they found that they’re
children are becoming more and more sophisticated.
No one suspects anything except for the local ne-er-do well, Smith. He doesn’t trust her. But no
one believes him, no matter how many times he sais it.
But suddenly the Children start acting strange. They start lying to their parents, they get violent
and they start running off to the woods.
Their parents get very worried and start asking themselves what is making their children act so
strange.
One day, when the pastor’s son starts acting very strange, the pastor realizes that Smith was
right. Just as he realizes he was right, Smith is running around the church threatening to burn it
down, which at the end he does.
Not any of the children survives except for the pastor’s son. The teacher’s body got buried deep
under the ground under a brick tomb. The children were buried under wooden crosses. Smith of
course left town, never to return again
