GAVIN CALVER
During the academic year 2010/11 South West Youth Ministries are hosting six professional
development training days that are open to all. If you are a full-timer or volunteer these
days are for you... to encourage you in the work that you are doing and to share ideas.
Sept 6th: BRAD HAWKES: Peer-led groups - releasing young people to lead
Brad Hawkes is National Leader of New Generation UK, the British branch of an international network with
more than 20000 members in 20 nations, all working for a more positive school environment through
peer-led Christian groups praying and reaching out schools and colleges.

Nov 1st: GAVIN CALVER: Hope for a new generation
Gavin Calver is the National Director of Youth for Christ, a charity that works with over 300,000 young
people a month in places such as schools, prisons and churches. A theology graduate, ordained evangelist
and regular public speaker, his third book Lazy, Anti- social & Selfish? came out in 2009.
Jan 10th: STEVE CLIFFORD: Unity – is it worth it?
Steve Clifford became General Director of Evangelical Alliance in April 2009. Steve’s previous roles have
included chairing Hope 08 and Soul Survivor, Soul in the City London and March for Jesus International.
He has also been involved in church planting and running leadership and discipleship teams within the PATRICK REGAN
Pioneer network.
Feb 28th: PATRICK REGAN: Reaching the unchurched
Patrick Regan is the founder and director of XLP, a charity that for the past 14 years has been working
with young people and families in some of the most diverse and challenging settings of inner city London.
Patrick is passionate about seeing places of trouble become places of hope.
PROGRAMME May 9th: MARTIN SAUNDERS: Storytelling
Martin Saunders is the Editor of Youthwork magazine. He also serves as a

12:30 Session 1 and the culture columnist for Christianity magazine. His latest two books,

resources for use in a range of youth work contexts.

16:50 Session 4 Jenny Baker is a writer and trainer with a background in youth work and
