4. AE’s health care system is all set to undergo
Ua significant transformation in the global
market. It is predicted that in the next five
years, UAE’s health care sector will grow by a
compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 75%.
Medical tourism is also expected to get a massive
thrust.
The emerging trend of spending in private
healthcare facilities and inclination towards
preventive care owing to a robust healthcare system
and health consciousness have propelled the
revenue generated in recent years. This is only
expected to surge further.
In addition, the ongoing global pandemic has
yanked the entire world’s attention towards a single
important factor – healthcare. UAE has been
prompt enough to heed the calling and has pepped
up its healthcare system.
People of the UAE have realized the scaling
necessity for care during health and illness. A
whopping response to the state-of-the-art system
with modern care facilities followed. This is
expected to continue post-Covid. The rise in
lifestyle diseases and increased awareness for
precaution and treatment have led to the demand for
excellence in healthcare, and medical
establishments are only ready to oblige.
The UAE has also been quick to adopt technologies
in healthcare services that have become the need of
time for fast and efficient deliverance. For instance,
telehealth that had been trending pre-Covid got a
significant impetus during Covid. New, smart
technologies are being adopted by the healthcare
ecosystem of the UAE to enable people easy access
to care. Newer models are expected to emerge in the
coming few years to fulfill the healthcare needs of
citizens, ex-pats, and medical tourists.
Compulsory health insurance in UAE and the
government’s willingness to spend on healthcare
have further encouraged the residents to seek
treatment. The growing population of the elderly
and the need for long-term care, including home
care facilities, led to the demand for excellence in
healthcare.
The robust healthcare system that is only growing
in leaps and bounds promises many business
opportunities in the field and its allied services.
There is also a growing need for qualified medical
professionals in UAE.
Looking at the overall scenario of the healthcare
sector in UAE, one can comfortably say that it is all
set to become a global healthcare hub.
We chose few of the healthcare service providers

The Guiding Light
An Innovator, Entrepreneur, and a Visionary Leader with
20+ years in business leadership, Mr. Raju Kurian is
experienced in all aspects of business formation, operations,
finance, and management.
With two decades of business expertise, he envisaged the
14. potential in the healthcare industry and invested and took
over MEDAS UAE in 2015. Within a span of 5 years, he
expanded MEDAS to all parts of the GCC like Saudi
Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain.
Sharing his opinion on how ERP solutions have been
helping hospitals run their operations efficiently and
provide better patient care, Mr. Kurian says, “The
Enterprise Resource Planning systems are information
systems that integrate all the core functions of a business or
an organization. This integration is implemented by the
connectivity of all processes of the various departments in
the organization.”
“The importance of ERP systems adopted by the enterprises
is high, but in the case of health organizations it is more
important because the information managed to them, is
related to human lives. Therefore, proper care should be
taken during the implementation.”
“The critical point in implementation of an ERP systems by
a health organization is the selection of the appropriate ERP
system that can manage the clinical, financial and inventory
processes and seamlessly integrate them. ERP systems
increases the productivity significantly. Since most
operating costs of health care are considerably reduced,
these funds can be reallocated to other areas.”
“The clinical information will be transmitted faster and
reliably, and the doctors are able to view on a computer
screen all the medical records and the patient related
information. In addition, the purchase department will be
able to know at any time the stocks of medical supplies or
equipment in order to forward their orders without delays,
thus the shortages will be minimized.”
Voyaging towards New Horizons
MEDAS has used the pandemic time to develop products
that would help patients and clinicians with two products
TeleMedicine and Speech to Text:
TeleMedicine
Telemedicine refers to the practice of caring for patients
remotely when the provider and patient are not physically
present with each other. Modern technology has enabled
doctors to consult patients by using video conferencing.
MEDAS’ technology combines a delightful experience for
patients with best-in-class workflows for providers.
Speech to Text
Speech recognition technology has a significant impact on
the healthcare profession. The most significant impacts and
benefits are:
Saving Time and Better Productivity: Medical professionals
normally spend a large portion of their day doing
15. paperwork. That is where speech recognition technologies can
have an impact. It takes time to write out notes, but it is quicker
to speak them out. All they have to do is talk into a recording
device and the speech recognition technology will translate the
spoken words to text on the computer.
Since many clinicians struggle to find time to complete their
paperwork, this can be very helpful. Instead of taking time after-
hours clinicians can quickly record their voice and instantly have
diagnoses, treatment records, and other important notes
documented and stored in the system.
Better Quality of Care: Saving time on paperwork allows medical
practitioners to spend more time treating their patients, which
improves overall patient care. It takes less time to dictate than to
write or type. Since clinicians do not have to manually prepare
reports; they get more time for their primary duties – treating
their patients.
“You have to understand what
end users are worried about,
what are their fears, what are
they trying to do? If we don’t
engage with them that way, it
doesn’t matter what technology
we use.”
– Talat Mohammad, Head of
Development
“ERP solution for healthcare solves
two major struggles of healthcare
providers, quality patient care and
substantial cost reduction.”
– Raju John, Regional Head
Business Development
“Project delivery, Product planning,
to Simple task management, Focus
on what you CAN control - not what
you CAN'T and the platform
naturally modifies itself to be
exactly what you need to get work
done painlessly and efficiently"

19. Healthcare is a basic human
right. However, not all have
access to it either due to the
expensive nature or lack of wider reach
of healthcare facilities. And the
COVID-19 pandemic has proved it
worldwide. The global pandemic
highlighted the need for
comprehensive affordable quality
healthcare. While many healthcare
organizations stepped up to extend
healthcare during the pandemic,
several institutes have been working to
make healthcare more accessible and
affordable.
Mediclinic Middle East is one such
healthcare group that has been on a
mission to improve lives through state-

With the group's seven hospitals and

as with all healthcare organizations
over the past year, has faced significant
challenges from large numbers of
Covid patients at its facilities, the
stoppages in elective surgical
procedures, and patient willingness to
visit healthcare establishments, the
company adapted quickly, introducing
new modes of remote care and
rebuilding patient confidence by
creating extremely secure treatment
pathways at its units.
Mediclinic has also been unwavering
in its support and collaboration with
the relevant health authorities in
tackling the COVID-19 pandemic and
this level of continued cooperation
between the public and private sector is
one of the most positive things to come
from the pandemic.
Across the world, major advances have
been made in the development,
manufacture, and distribution of
COVID-19 vaccines. The government-

delivery systems to become available
too. Medicine will become more
personalized and the accuracy of the
information for doctors to prepare a
care plan will become invaluable due
to these initiatives.
As an established leader, what would
be your advice to the budding
entrepreneurs and enthusiasts
aspiring to venture into the
healthcare services niche?
Focus on the new-age healthcare
services that have a lower upfront
capital requirement (that require years
to make a return on). Think
preventative care and enhancement of
care.
How do you envision scaling your
company's operations and offerings
in 2021?
Our efforts to expand the business
across the continuum of care continue
apace and I am happy that we will soon
be launching our precision medicine
service. In addition, we are looking
closely at the homecare market and I
foresee some new developments in that
area soon.
Digitalization is a key area of focus for
Mediclinic, and I am pleased to report
that we have just completed the rollout
for the Customer Relationship
Management system in all our
hospitals, enabling inquiries and
complaints from patients to be routed,
tracked, and escalated automatically to
the right business owners, improving
consistency inpatient experience, and
providing transparency in response
turnaround time.
We have also already seen the rollout
of our online appointment booking
system and telemedicine services, and
our new patient portal, which will
allow patients to access all their health
records and test results, is going live
imminently. These will be enhanced
towards the end of 2021 with the
piloting of a digital platform that will
bring all these functionalities together
under one umbrella bringing us even
closer to the patient and making
Mediclinic Middle East one of the
most digitally advanced healthcare
providers in the UAE.
In other key developments, we look
forward to the opening of Mediclinic
Airport Road Hospital's new extension
and Comprehensive Cancer Centre,
further progress on Mediclinic Al
Murjan Hospital in Saudi Arabia, the
opening of our new dialysis center in
Al Barsha as part of an agreement with
the Dubai Health Authority, and the
launch of our new Cosmetics
standalone service and clinic in Dubai
Mall.
Exhibiting Excellence
Mediclinic focuses on clinical
excellence and works towards
accreditation from internationally
recognized partners as an assurance of
the quality of its excellence. All its
hospitals and outpatient clinics are
accredited by the Joint Commission
International, and for the first time in
2020, we received JCI accreditation for
an individual clinical care program
(Diabetes at Mediclinic Welcare

Middle East laboratories operating
within Mediclinic hospital and clinic
facilities are ISO 15189:2012

22. Reasons why
BUSINESSES
LEADERS should prioritize
theirMENTAL HEALTH
We often consider mental health as something
that is intangible, unlike physical health issues.
Physical health issues are tangible in the way
that they give you sensory pain and restrict your move-
ments therefore, they are hard to overlook. Mental health
problems like stress and depression do not impair your
physical being and daily functions so we fail to notice them.
Your social well-being, emotions, and psychology are all
the factor that contribute to your mental health. We
th
celebrate ‘World Mental Health Day’ on the 10 of October
every year with the motto of encouraging global mental
health education but how much of it are we able to
implement in our daily life?
Mental health is important at every stage of our lives as it
affects our growth and performance in both personal and
professional aspects.
In this pandemic, people’s mental health has worsened
furthermore, and as many businesses are suffering, their
employees are struggling too, but the burden is heavier on
the shoulders of its leaders, whose efforts and contributions
are at stake.
All business leaders are working towards making things
better in their businesses but what they are neglecting in
this process is their mental healthcare.
The workload that is resulting in depression, stress, and
anxiety will harm their mental health in the long term. In
the process of ignoring mental health, many also get distant
from their families and friends, the pillar that supports
every human’s mental health.
Wellness Quotient (WQ) and Emotional Quotient (EQ) are
equally important as IQ to balance personal and
professional life. WQ and EQ don’t affect our professional
life directly, but not taking good care can prove to be
harmful in the long run.
Any person with mental health issues cannot achieve a goal
to their fullest potential.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO),
mental stress causes five out of the ten leading problems of
mental disabilities, major problems are depression, bipolar
disorders, schizophrenia, alcohol dependency, and
obsessive-compulsive disorders
According to WHO’s study ‘Mental health and work:
Impact, issues, and good practices’, mental problems like
stress and depression can also cause you other problems
like skin diseases, tumours, respiratory disorders, accidents,
hearts disorders, and so on.

24. One problem can lead to another problem, what you need is
a solution. In the busy schedule of a business leader, it sure
is hard to manage time for basic things like sleep or even to
fixing the lunch and dinner times.
But it is not impossible, if taking care of your mental health
can simply eliminate so many of your problems and the
suffering caused by it, then why not?
As a business leader your mental health not only affects you
and your work, but it also directly affects the people who
are involved in your business and their performance as well,
and ultimately the business’ growth.
These are the top reasons that affect our mental health, and
that every business leader should consider understanding
and prioritizing it.
Business leaders with so many work responsibilities tend to
develop the habit of being workaholics. They experience a
lot of tension in the process of achieving their deadlines.
With this habit, they develop mental health problems like
depression, stress, and anxiety. All of these combined can
result in sleep disorders and insomnia.
Those with mental health issues, fail to give their 100%
potential while working, fail to achieve their deadlines, and
are in irritated and bad moods due to not being satisfied
with their performance. This further tends to ruin most of
their personal and professional relationships that affect their
happiness and business performance badly.
Alcohol dependency is another problem that many business
leaders face in their hard times. This habit after some time
develops into an addiction. This leads to long-term health
risks like chronic diseases, which includes high blood
pressure, heart diseases, liver diseases, strokes, digestion
related problems, and various types of cancers like breast,
throat, mouth, voice box, rectum, colon, oesophagus and so
on.
The problems are never-ending. Another disease that
surfaces is an obsessive-compulsive disorder. In OCD,
people suffer from problems like doubting, having difficulty
in tolerating certain things, needing everything to be
perfect, growing very aggressive and experiencing horrific
thoughts, and losing control over situations. In OCD,
sometimes people are even on verge of harming themselves
and others out of anger and so on.
To avoid such severe problems or even the starting phase of
them like poor health and physical conditions, a business
leader must consider their mental health to avoid further
problems.
Mental health issues degrade your work performance in ways
such as reduction in productivity and output, increase in error
rates, poor decision-making, deterioration in planning and
control of work, and so on.
Considering your mental health will also help in improving the
staff’s attitude, behaviour, and overall relationship. It will
improve your relationship with your partner, also motivation
and commitment of the whole team towards the organization
will improve, relationships with clients will grow better, which
in turn will also solve disciplinary problems at the office.
Good health is not just a goal, but it is also the right of every
business leader. Addressing your mental health issues and
working on them in every day routines is also your
responsibility. There is nothing wrong to rely on people who
care for you when you are in a problem.
Trying to resolve personal and work-related problems instead
of ignoring them is the first step you need to take.
If need be, you can also go for on-site or telephone
counselling. This helps many when it comes to the mental
health disorders like depression, stress, and anxiety.
Many business leaders go through mental and physical health
issues because of having so many problems that are hard to
deal with and are hard to share with anyone like marital or
family-related issues, legal and financial problems,
catastrophic medical problems, career-related difficulties, etc.
The list of mental health issues is endless when it comes to
taking them down, so it’s better to start giving as much
importance to your mental health as you give to your physical
health. Taking out some time for yourself and talking about
your problem is all you need to do, to solve everything, slowly
with time and little effort. As they say, it’s never too late to ask
for help.

26. About the Leader
Prognica Labs was ideated back in early 2019, but the company was officially launched
and registered in May-2020
Khalid earlier had a software company “Affaan Technologies,” which offered AI consulting
and development services to its client across different industries being experts at writing
AI / ML algorithms.
Khalid wanted to develop something, which will directly impact the society, especially in
healthcare. And while doing some research, he came across few breast cancer survivors,
where he got to know how this particular disease may not just take away the life, but

Technology has changed the face of many industries.
One of the sectors that technology has transformed
enormously is the healthcare sector – significantly
improving healthcare services and enabling better recovery
and early detection of many fatal diseases.
This adoption of evolving technology has further resulted in
the cumulative decline of mortality rate among the global
population and has enabled the overall improvement health.
This process continues to evolve to give greater results to
the healthcare professionals.
Prognica Labs is an organization that specializes in
providing AI-powered healthcare services. The company is
a recipient of multiple awards in UAE including, Best
Deployment of Machine Learning in Healthcare, Best Start-
up of the Year, Technology Rising Star of the Year, and Top
Contribution in AI in Healthcare and Medical Education.
In the following interview, Khalid Shaikh, the Founder
and CEO talks about his opinion on the present and future
of the HealthTech sector and how his company is positioned
to stand out from the crowd.
Please brief our audience about Prognica Labs, its
mission, and the key aspects of its stronghold within the
healthcare services niche.
Not too many people would know that Breast Cancer is
indeed the leading cause of cancer deaths among women
today. 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer at
some point in their lifetime. The biggest challenge on that
count is the early detection. Therefore, the area where
building new tools to diagnose the disease more effectively
can have a major impact on large portion of the population.
Radiologists are faced with an ever-increasing number of
cases. The actual process of medical image analysis is
repetitive and time-consuming as a great deal of time and
effort is spent on scrutinizing images, that in the end turn
out to be benign, checking lymph nodes for metastases.
Prognica Labs is a Dubai based AI-powered health-tech
start-up aiming to improve clinical outcomes in the fight
against breast cancer. Prognica analyses medical images
and generates information and data to help predict and
diagnose cancer using artificial intelligence and deep
learning. We are tackling a long-term goal by working on
breast cancer screening and diagnostics to make it more
accurate, affordable, and accessible.
With our proprietary algorithm, it automatically detects the
abnormality in mammogram and breast ultrasound images,
detects masses and helps in segmentation, and features
extraction and classification of the lesion.

What is your opinion on the effects of the current
pandemic on the healthcare sector, and what challenges
did your company face during the initial phase of the
pandemic?
Coronavirus has accelerated the rise of digital health that
includes solutions for telemedicine, teleconsultation, remote
monitoring, connected devices, digital health platforms, and
health apps.
Digital technologies are becoming more critical. They have
been used, among other things, for online medical
consultations from home and for increasing efficiency in
diagnosis and treatment of patients through telemedicine
and online education.
The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed the deep
vulnerabilities and inherent gaps of healthcare system
worldwide. The outbreak of COVID-19 posed both a
challenge and an opportunity for the HealthTech start-ups.
Besides COVID-19, I think many of the HealthTech start-
up founders believe that the government’s efforts to digitize
the interaction between consumers and providers like
diagnostic centres, doctors, radiologists, and even the
pharmacies have also given a big momentum to innovation
in digital health.
With continuous development in technologies such as AI
and big data, what is your prediction about the future of
the healthcare services market?
Artificial intelligence has come a long way since it was
started. There are numerous applications of AI on the
market today or awaiting approval that can improve patient
care and potentially save lives.
Medical professionals also have to consider patient privacy
and security when considering AI applications and despite
the growing advancement of AI in healthcare, the
practitioner-patient relationship and the empathy still
remains important.

people and try to validate their idea in terms of technology,
functionality, and the market.
Surround themselves with other
successful entrepreneurs and
mentors that can open their network
to help them and guide throughout
the entrepreneurial process.

SYSTEMS
A World of Opportunities
and Progress
The Enterprise Resource Planning
systems are information systems that
integrate all the core functions of a
business or an organization. This integration is
implemented by the connectivity of all processes
of the various departments in the organization.
The importance of ERP systems adopted by the
enterprises is high, but in the case of health
organizations it is more important because the
information managed by them, is related to
human lives. Therefore, proper care should be
taken during the implementation.
The critical point in implementation of an ERP
systems by a health organization is the selection
of the appropriate ERP system that can manage
the clinical, financial and inventory processes
and seamlessly integrate them.
ERP systems increases the productivity
significantly. Since most operating costs of
health care are considerably reduced, these
funds can be reallocated to other areas.
The clinical information will be transmitted
faster and reliably, and the doctors are able to
view on a computer screen all the medical
records and the patient related information. In
addition, the purchase department will be able to
know at any time the stocks of medical supplies
or equipment to forward their orders without
delays, thus the shortages will be minimized.

34. Urinary incontinence is a medical condition that
affects more than 423 million men and women
worldwide. The burden of urinary incontinence is
expected to grow due to an ageing population and other
growing pathologies and factors.
One in three women experience symptoms of urinary
incontinence, which can range from occasional leakage to
stress-related urgency or complete loss of bladder control.
Urinary incontinence often occurs when there is pressure on
the urethra (the tube that carries urine from the bladder),
caused by laughing, sneezing, or lifting heavy objects.
However, this issue may also be caused by pathological
reasons like bladder and bowel dysfunction and
neurological disorders.
Dealing with Urinary Incontinence often leads to adverse
issues such as social isolation, depression, and in some
cases, severe health complications. To cater to this
concerning condition, there is a rising need for
technological innovation that will improve the lives of those
suffering from it.
Companies like ProvenMed, have risen to the challenge
and are striving to innovate products and solutions focused
on combating Urinary Incontinence and similar problems.
In the following interview, Souheil Guessoum,
Co-founder & Chief Executive Officer, and Amine Staali,
Co-founder & Chief Technology Officer, take us through
the company’s journey so far, share their opinion on the
current landscape of the HealthTech space, and their vision
for the company’s future.
Below are the highlights of the interview:
Please brief our audience about ProvenMed, its mission,
and the key aspects of its stronghold within the
healthcare services niche.
®
ProvenMed was established in 2018 by two social
entrepreneurs, Souheil Guessoum and Amine Staali, who
sought an innovative solution for individuals who suffer
from urinary incontinence. For millions of incontinent
patients worldwide, comfort and ease of use are the priority
when managing their condition. The team inspects the
challenges as they are from the patient’s point of view to
ensure the designed innovative wearable medical devices
offer optimum comfort, ease in usage, hygiene, and
reusability to those in need.

ProvenMed has created the ActivGo for men entirely from
the patient’s experience suffering from this condition. It
transcends the existing products by being the first non-
invasive and patient-friendly solution that supports the
users’ active lifestyle without compromising their comfort
or safety.
What is your opinion on the effects of the current
pandemic on the healthcare sector, and what challenges
did your company face during the initial phase of the
pandemic?
With the recent unprecedented health crisis, the COVID-19
has caused drastic changes to businesses and upended the
regular flow of operations across all entities, both the
individual and organizational levels. People are threatened
with the unknown. Government leaders were scouting to
gather some form of control. Researchers are still chasing
after a cure.
Private and public sectors are uniting to help communities.
Most importantly, healthcare professionals are now
combating this battle on the frontlines while risking their
lives to treat others. Doctors, nurses, medics, and other
healthcare workers are the most susceptible to infection due
to their direct and prolonged exposure to virus carriers.
Furthermore, their immune systems are weakened with the
stress induced by working for long durations.
The COVID-19 pandemic has enabled us to acknowledge
the strengths of entrepreneurs that made them better

lookout for opportunities to seize, and find new methods to
adapt and grow. In the case of ProvenMed, the pandemic
has unlocked an unseen potential to expand the value of the

flagship product ActivGo in helping other verticals like
frontline medics.
Designed to manage urinary incontinence hygienically,
®
ActivGo is helping people who have limited access to
toilets by allowing critical workers to use the wearable
system comfortably. This solution is now beneficial to
doctors and medics as they take care of COVID-19 patients.
It is in these challenging times that entrepreneurs are
inspired to use their natural aptitude to create a rapid
response and tackle problems. This pandemic opened a new
window for us to reach more people that could greatly
benefit from our services.
With continuous development in technologies such as AI
and big data, what is your prediction about the future of
the healthcare services market?
We believe that the applications of Artificial Intelligence
have huge and wide-ranging potential. We are now able to
interpret patterns in big data that may not be readily
apparent, which has powerful implications in optimizing
healthcare services. These clinical insights will allow for
data-supported treatment plans and more accurate clinical
decisions, ultimately lowering costs while enhancing
patient care.
We are currently witnessing the adoption of AI programs to
practices such as diagnosis, prognostication, personalized
medicine, and preventive care, drug development, and
patient monitoring and care as well as the facilitation of
administrative activities. The need to accelerate these
advancements has become a pressing matter in the
healthcare sector.
In concordance with the UAE’s vision to Global leader in
AI by 2031, ProvenMed has strategized the launch of a
smart wearable that detects bladder fullness and urination
frequency and analyses this data using AI algorithms to
prompt the user of potential leakage. We envision this to be
a crucial milestone in incontinence management as it will
lessen leakage accidents, predict other diseases by reading
vitals, protect the patient’s self-esteem and confidence and
promote preventive care.
As an established leader, what would be your advice to
the budding entrepreneurs and enthusiasts aspiring to
venture into the healthcare services niche?
I highly encourage the budding innovators to embrace the
human-centred mindset as a key competency for a
successful entrepreneur in this field. They must be
motivated by the ability to empathize with others. Empathy
guides our view of the world through other people’s eyes
and helps us gain a deeper appreciation of people’s
emotional and physical needs. It is only then can we
effectively respond with ideas that create meaningful and
beneficial products, services, and experiences that truly
leave an impact on the patient’s way of living. – Amine
Staali
How do you envision scaling ProvenMed’s operations
and offerings in 2021?
ProvenMed has set strategic objectives to scale the business
while increasing its efficiency. It is planning for a growth
capital fund raising with strategic investors to fuel global
expansion and extend its products and solutions to more
people worldwide. Moreover, it plans on optimizing
operations by improving operating models and processes,
including forming contracts with suppliers to achieve
higher supplier performance.
It is one of ProvenMed’s goals to increase awareness about
the epidemiology of issues associated with loss of bladder
control to reach more users who could benefit from the
company’s devices. As the team proceeds to perform
closely with patients and urologists, the identified issues are
expected to inspire the improvement of existing devices and
the development of various new IP-protected ones.
The company has commenced ongoing research and
development projects and is currently working on a
patented, innovative, wearable hybrid solution for female
patients that factors in comfort and reliability when
managing both light and severe urinary incontinence. The
female product is at the final testing stage and expected to
be launched in Q1 2022.
It has also allocated a team of professionals to design and
test a smart textile wearable that is AI-driven to enable a
non-invasive continuous reading of bladder fullness and
abnormality in patients.
It is linked to a medic’s platform to provide early detection
and instigate preventive care. Additionally, the company
foresees the great impact of producing a patented
auto-drainage and sanitation system targeted at individuals
in wheelchairs, cars, and no access to toilets to easily
manage their urinary needs with more ease and comfort.
Lastly, considering the increased risks of infection and
disease spread through contact, people have become
extremely wary of public lavatories. The company’s
offering of a single-use product will be beneficial to those
who have limited access to restrooms or want to stay safe
and protected during these difficult times. This solution will
be considered as the first urination PPE which will help our
front-liners like medics, delivery drivers and soldiers to stay
healthy while not comprising their productivity or dignity.

39. The invasion of technology in our lives has
significantly furthered our progress as a species.
Technology today is prevalent in almost all
economic sectors, which is helping humans to achieve
business goals more quickly and efficiently. The healthcare
space is among such sectors that have benefited immensely
from the inclusion of technology.
Technology is changing the way the healthcare sector used
to operate in a very dramatic and dynamic way. Over time it
is becoming more important to adopt modern technologies
in the healthcare sector to improve the functioning of the
space especially, considering the current pandemic.
In uncertain times like the COVID-19 pandemic, the
advancement in technology has helped the healthcare sector
in numerous ways. Following are some of the means by
which technology has advanced the healthcare sector:
Big data and availability of information – The biggest
hallmark of the technological age is the accessibility of data
and the means to store and process it. Technology has
enabled healthcare professionals to share data across
platforms easily that has made synthesis and analysis of
data more efficient. In fact, the entire healthcare field
benefits from the comprehensive research study allowed by
big data. Data from larger and more diverse groups of the
population can be accessed with the help of big data.
Researchers can also draw from the existing data for a more
comprehensive meta-analysis. Continuous innovation helps

40. healthcare professionals to stay on top of new technologies,
techniques, and trends to provide better treatment to
patients.
Improved inter-departmental communication – Like
most organizations, the healthcare sector also struggles with
interdepartmental communication. The hospital staff often
works in a specialized team that plays a role in the patient's
care. This leads to ineffective communication between
departments, teams, and locations.
Technological innovations have resulted in smoother
communication between the hospital departments. Medical
professionals now can also facilitate knowledge sharing by
communicating on online discussion platforms, through
media, and in real-time meetings. The accessibility of in-
house electronic medical records by relevant departments
allows improved case management, treatments, and patient
recovery.
Integrated medical records – Technology has helped
medical professionals by centrally storing relevant
electronic medical records in an online location. This allows
for more focused care to the patient and the ability to see
health trends for each individual. Previously, medical
reports from visiting a General Practitioner (GP), dentist,
medical specialist, and allied health professionals were all
held in different locations.
With the help of integrated medical records, it’s now more
convenient for different health professionals to look up
previous medical records of their patients and do a more
accurate diagnosis. The system of medical billing has
allowed hospitals, clinics, and medical practices to run
more smoothly.
Better accessibility of healthcare advice –
Telehealth/Telemedicine services have become a cost and
time-efficient way of availing healthcare services. During
times like the COVID-19 pandemic, the telehealth service
has also helped to reduce person-to-person transmission of
the virus by allowing patients access to healthcare from the
comfort of their homes.
It has proved to be beneficial particularly to people living in
remote and rural areas to access medical specialists who
live several km away. Telehealth lets medical professionals
provide correct guidance to patients for in-home care and
avoid unnecessary hospitalizations and visits to the doctor.
Medical health professionals can provide personalized
treatment plans to individual patients and ensure correct
procedures are carried out over phone or video call.
Teleconsultation can also benefit health professionals in the
way that they can receive education and training on a
virtual platform.
Improved mobility – Mobile applications have proved to
be the key to improved accessibility for healthcare
professionals and patients. Effortless management of health
and wellbeing has been made possible with the help of
mobile software applications, which is one of the important
factors in containing the ongoing pandemic. Patients can
securely access their medical test results and book
appointment for check-ups sitting at home.
On the other hand, healthcare professionals can easily
access the intranet from their mobile devices to look up
information related to diseases and drugs, images for
clinical matters, and so many other resources that assist
their daily work.
Automated processes – Healthcare industry is a highly
regulated one. There are several internal medical and non-
medical administrative processes that need to be followed
while operating in the healthcare industry. Introducing
improved workflows allows healthcare professionals to
direct their energy towards performing their integral tasks
as healthcare workers.
The impact that technology has had on the healthcare
industry is extremely positive. It has made a lot of the
administrative and tedious processes in the industry easier
to achieve allowing healthcare professionals to work more
efficiently. Hospitals that adopt these technologies work
much more skillfully and achieve multiple targets faster.
More personalized treatments have at large resulted in
elevated healthcare services that have in turn increased the
life expectancy of the human population.

loss and reductions that were caused by the pandemic.
With continuous development in technologies such as AI
and big data, what is your prediction about the future of
the healthcare services market?
Healthcare would undergo the largest digital transformation
ever amid the massive impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The big data in healthcare is reaching a critical mass in
which the traditional technology won’t be the best fit
anymore.
In addition to this, healthcare has a chronic problem, the
demand will always surpass the supply which means that
we will never have enough healthcare providers and
resources to meet the need of the current and future
population. All of this would result in a need to deploy
machine learning and advanced data sciences on a scale
from prevention, diagnosis, screening, patient assistance,
and taking away administrative work.
As an established leader, what would be your advice to
the budding entrepreneurs and enthusiasts aspiring to
venture into the healthcare services niche?
Healthcare is complex, heavily regulated, with legacy
systems as the norm. It needs a longer time to establish a
new reality than any other industry. However, the prize is
big, start-ups in healthcare are impacting people’s lives and
health and making them better. Patience and persistence are
everything, rushing things out is the enemy of healthcare
start-ups. COVID-19 has made it clearer that we want a true
change, everyone realizes this now, the time is now.
How do you envision scaling your company’s operations
and offerings in 2021?
Our plan for expansion in 2021 will be focused on catering
more widely to regional markets, specifically UAE, Egypt,
and most recently, KSA. We are already lucky to have many
major clients from within the region and we work
consistently on advancing and optimizing our solutions and
