2. New IPL Teams 2021: Ahmedabad and Lucknow are two new
teams; CVC Capital Partners, RPSG winning bidders
Ahmedabad and Lucknow have been announced as the two teams of
the Indian Premier League, taking the total number of IPL teams in the
next season to ten.
The Sanjiv Goenka-owned RPSG group placed the winning bid worth Rs
7,090 crore for the Lucknow IPL team, while CVC Capital Partners have
claimed Ahmedabad with a bid of Rs 5,166 crore.
The bidding for the two new IPL teams took place at the Taj Hotel in
Dubai on October 25, 2021.
BCCI President Sourav Ganguly said, "We're extremely happy that
Indian cricket is growing forward. That is what is important for us. We
look at Indian cricket and that's what our job is. The more Indian cricket
prosperous, the better it is."

3. Indian Telegraph Right of Way (Amendment)
Rules, 2021
The Indian government on October 21, 2021, notified Indian Telegraph Right of
Way (Amendment) Rules, 2021, to incorporate the provisions related to nominal
one-time compensation and uniform procedure for establishment of overground
telegraph line in the Indian Telegraph Right of Way Rules, 2016.
The government has fixed a cap of Rs 1,000 per km as the amount of one-time
compensation for the establishment of an overground telegraph line.
The Amendment Rules ease the documentation process for Right of Way (RoW)
application for overground telegraph line, said the Ministry of Communications.
The earlier RoW rules covered only underground Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) and
mobile towers.
The Amendment Rules state that there will not be any other fee other than the
administrative fee and restoration charges to establish, repair, maintain, shift,
transfer, or work the underground and overground telegraph infrastructure.

4. 2,700-year-old wine press, carvings
discovered in Iraq
Archaeologists in Iraq announced on October 24, 2021, that
they have discovered a large-scale wine factory from the rule
of the Assyrian Kings 2,700 years ago.
They also reveal their discovery of stunning monumental rock-
carved royal reliefs.
Iraq was the birthplace of some of the world’s earliest cities. As
well as Assyrians, it was home once to Sumerians and
Babylonians, and to among humankind’s first examples of
writing.
Some of the most famous carvings that have survived from
the Assyrian Period are the mythical winged bulls, with
examples of the monumental reliefs seen in the Iraq museum
in Baghdad, as well as the British Museum in London and the
Louvre in Paris.

5. Sudan's military dissolves ruling government,
arrests acting PM Abdalla Hamdok
Sudan’s leading military general Gen. Abdel-Fattah Burhan
dissolved the ruling Sovereign Council and declared a state
of emergency in the nation in a televised address on
October 25, 2021. He announced that the military will run
the country.
This comes hours after his forces arrested the acting Prime
Minister Abdalla Hamdok and other top officials.
They also reportedly disrupted the internet in an apparent
coup at a time when the country was nearing a planned
transition to civilian leadership.
The declaration led to protests by thousands of Sudanese,
who took to the streets.

6. Turkey to expel U.S. envoy and nine others
for supporting release of jailed philanthropist
The President of Turkey Tayyip Erdogan said on October 23, 2021,
that he had told his foreign ministry to expel the ambassadors of
the United States and 9 Western countries for demanding the
release of philanthropist Osman Kavala.
Seven of the named ambassadors represent Turkey’s NATO allies.
The expulsions announced by Turkey, if carried out further, will open
the deepest rift with the West in Erdogan’s 19 years of power.
On the announcement made by the Turkish President, a US. State
Department spokesperson had said that it was aware of the reports
and was seeking clarity from the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Erdogan had previously mentioned that he plans on meeting US
President Joe Biden at a summit of G20 major economies in Rome.

7. Saudi Arabia to use $110 billion natural gas
field for Blue Hydrogen
Saudi Arabia on October 24, 2021, announced that it will use one of
the world’s biggest natural-gas projects to produce Blue Hydrogen.
A large portion of gas from the $110 billion Jafurah development will be used
for manufacturing Blue Hydrogen, said Saudi Arabia’s Energy Minister
Abdulaziz bin Salman during a climate conference in Riyadh.
Saudi Arabia termed the production of hydrogen as a key focus of the oil-
rich kingdom to transition into a green-energy nation.
The announcement to use $110 billion natural gas field for Blue Hydrogen
came in a day after the Saudi government announced its pledge to become
carbon neutral by 2060 by incorporating carbon sequestration and
hydrogen production.
The Jafurah development project also reflects Saudi’s strategy to move away
from its earlier goal of becoming an exporter of liquefied natural gas, a fuel
that is cleaner than oil and coal. Many governments have expressed to
phase out liquified natural gas.

8. PM Modi to visit Italy for 16th G-20 Summit,
UK for COP-26
16th G20 Summit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be travelling to Rome, Italy from
October 30-31, 2021 for the 16th G-20 Summit. He will also be travelling to the United
Kingdom from October 29 to November 2 for the COP-26 World Leaders' Summit.
The Ministry of External Affairs released an official statement stating that the Prime Minister
will be participating in the 16th G-20 Summit in Rome at the invitation of the Italian Prime
Minister Mario Draghi. This would be PM Narendra Modi's 8th G-20 Summit participation.
16th G20 Summit: Key Highlights
•The 16th G20 Summit will be attended by Heads of State / Government of all G-20 Member
Countries, the European Union and other international organisations and invited countries.
