2. Zomato Co-Founder Gaurav Gupta steps down
Zomato co-founder Gaurav Gupta has decided to quit, just two
months after the company posted a landmark initial public
offering (IPO). Gupta, head of supply at Zomato, played a key
role in driving up the company's sales in a highly competitive
market.
He had also been a key executive in the run-up to the food
delivery company’s hit IPO in July 2021, in which it received 38
times as many bids as shares on offer.
His departure comes a few days after the company said it will
soon stop its in-house grocery delivery service after gaps were
reported in order fulfillment leading to poor customer service.

3. Norway’s left wing opposition wins 2021
Norwegian Elections with landslide victory
Norway’s left-wing opposition party headed by Labour Party leader Jonas Gahr Store
won the 2021 Norwegian Elections with a landslide victory after defeating a centre-
right coalition headed by Conservative Prime Minister Erna Solberg on September 13,
2021.
Gahr Store is expected to become the Prime Minister of Norway and form the next
government with the Socialist Left Party and Centre Party while Solberg will step down
after being in power since 2013.
Store is now set to begin talks with the Centre Party which defends the interests of rural
and the Socialist Left Party which strongly advocates for environmental issues.
Store has also announced the pledge to address inequality by increasing tax rates for
the rich and cutting taxes for low and middle-income households.
The 2021 Norwegian Election was held on September 13, 2021. All 169 seats in the
Norwegian parliament were up for election.
On September 13, 2021, Labour Party leader Jonas Gahr Store retained its position as
the largest political party of Norway after defeating Conservative Prime Minister Erna
Solberg who ended up with the second-largest number of representatives.

5. Government releases Rs. 496 crores to subsidise
machinery to reduce stubble burning
The Central Government has released Rs. 496 crores to
subsidize the machinery that is required in-situ management of
the crop residue.
The amount has been released with an aim of addressing the
problem of air pollution in Delhi and the National Capital
Region (NCR) because of stubble burning in the adjoining
states of Haryana, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh.
During the year 2018-2019 to 2020-21, the Central Government
had released total funds of Rs. 1,749 crores in order to address
the issue of air pollution in Delhi and NCR.

6. India’s FDI Policy for space sector: Lot of interest from foreign
companies to invest, says ISRO Chairman
The top government official informed on September 13, 2201,
that India’s Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) policy in the space
sector is getting revised which will open up huge opportunities
for foreign companies to invest in the country.
K Sivan, the Secretary in the Department of Space (DoS) and
Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) said
that there is an enormous scope for the foreign companies to tie
up with their Indian counterparts in the space sector.

7. India, Singapore launch initiative to link UPI,
PayNow for faster payments
The Reserve Bank of India and the Monetary Authority of
Singapore have announced an initiative that will link fast
payment systems- Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and
PayNow- of India and Singapore.
The announced linkage between the two nations has been
targeted for operationalization by July 2022.
The latest project is in line with the Reserve Bank of India’s
plan of reviewing the corridors and the charges for the
inbound cross-border remittances that have been drafted in
the Payment Systems Vision Document 2019-2021.

8. PM Adarsh Gram Yojna: Centre to start rural
development scheme in 36000 villages in
Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda informed recently
that his ministry will start Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram
Yojna covering 36 thousand villages across the country.
The villages with 50 percent tribal population will be
given priority under the rural development programme.
Under PM Adarsh Gram Yojna, roughly 1,700 tribal
villages in Assam will be converted into model villages.
Besides this, around 184 new Van Dhan Kendras will also
be set up in the state that would benefit around 60,000
people.

9. Joe Biden to host Quad summit on
Sept 24; PM Modi to attend
The White House confirmed on September 13, 2021, that
US President Joe Biden will host the first-ever Quad
(Quadrilateral Security Dialogue) leaders’ Summit at the
White House on September 24.
As per the official statement by the White House, President
Biden has been looking forward to welcoming PM Modi,
Japan Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, and Australian Prime
Minister Scott Morrison.
The Quad members are the grouping of four nations-
India, the US, Australia, and Japan. This will also be the
first-ever in-person Quad meet. The virtual meeting of the
leaders was held in March 2021.
