The Dolphin Project
The Dolphin Project aims to develop links between the natural gas
infrastructures of Qatar, the UAE, and Oman. It will allow the export of non-
associated natural gas from Qatar's massive offshore North Dome field. A
Statement of Principles for the project was signed in March 1999 between the
UAE Offsets Group (UOG) and Qatar Petroleum.
The two firms signed a natural gas sales agreement in March 2001, with
natural gas supplies expected to start in late 2006. Estimated to cost US$8-10
billion over the next decade, the project will begin as a subsea pipeline from
Ras Laffan in Qatar to a landfall in Abu Dhabi, which will then be extended to
Dubai and northern Oman.
It will start at 48 inches in diameter, narrowing to 30 inches by the time it
reaches Oman. In its initial phase, the pipeline is to carry 3 Bcf/d of Qatari
natural gas to the UAE and Oman, accounting for nearly 10% of total world
natural gas supplies shipped by pipeline.

Iraq – Political & Economic
 Iraq’s new administrations policy on oil
production, Iraq has 2nd largest proven
reserves in the world.
 Could test Saudi’s dominant status within
OPEC, & perhaps the long term cohesion of
the cartel.
 The stability of Iraq is of critical
importance.
Iraq – Political & Economic
 Saddam Husseins brutally suppressed regional
dissidents.
 Country made up of Kurds, Shi’ites and the
traditionally powerful Sunni Muslims
 Under previous administration in Baghdad, the
Shi’ite Muslims had no autonomy and even less
role in government, despite comprising around
60% of the population.
 Its anticipated that a federal structure will be
devised, which will concentrate most power over
the country’s oil reserves, in the centre.
Iraq the Opportunity
 Construction
Widespread demand for basic building
materials and equipment
 Electricity, HVAC and lighting
Power stations, electrical components and
Air-conditioning are a priority
Iraq the Opportunity
 Oil and gas
There exist opportunities in oil and gas exploration, drilling equipment,
production and processing technology, reservoir measurement and
management, pipeline engineering and processing, as well as training
equipment and services.
 Agriculture, water and environment
Will require crop production know-how, livestock, poultry and dairy farming
expertise (including feeds and additives), horticulture, irrigation and water
technology and management, as well as agricultural machinery.
Closely linked to the fortunes of the agricultural sector is the environment
which will require environmental monitoring equipment, filtration services,
sewage treatment, recycling technology and of course oil pollution clean-up
and control technology, as well as hazardous waste handling equipment.
Iraq the Opportunity
 Telecom and mobile phones
Iraq requires the full range of telecom equipment, infrastructure and mobile GSM products
 Security
Opportunities for suppliers of the key elements of any security and emergency service infrastructure.
 Hotels, F&B and catering
Currently being sourced include interior decor (including furniture, bedding, linen, curtains etc.),
cleaning services, registration software, as well as consulting and design services. The entire food
and beverage range of services and products are also needed, including foodstuffs, processing and
packing equipment as well as fast foods and snack franchises. Finally, there is also demand for
restaurant and catering equipment, including refrigeration and storage facilities
 General products, goods and services
The day to day needs of the Iraqi people are also highlighted in the demand for auto parts and tools,
packaging equipment and material, paper production, printing and publishing technology, plastics
(including moulding machines and PVC pipes etc.), consumer good and services, such as household
goods, cosmetics, leisure and tourism expertise and infrastructure know-how and airport equipment.

It will allow the export of non- associated natural gas from Qatar's massive offshore North Dome field. A Statement of Principles for the project was signed in March 1999 between the UAE Offsets Group (UOG) and Qatar Petroleum. The two firms signed a natural gas sales agreement in March 2001, with natural gas supplies expected to start in late 2006. Estimated to cost US$8-10 billion over the next decade, the project will begin as a subsea pipeline from Ras Laffan in Qatar to a landfall in Abu Dhabi, which will then be extended to Dubai and northern Oman. It will start at 48 inches in diameter, narrowing to 30 inches by the time it reaches Oman.
