FS #6- Episode 2 : The Teacher’s Philosophy of Education
My Concrete Experience
WHAT IS YOUR PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION?
4 Agree strongly 2 disagree
3 Agree 1 Disagree strongly
3 1. The student learning should be centered on basic subjects such as reading, writing,
history, math and science.
3 2. The school subjects should focus on the great thinkers of the past.
4 3. Many students learn best by engaging in real-world activities rather than reading.
2 4. The students should be permitted to determine their own curriculum.
4 5. Subject matter is taught effectively when it is broken down into small parts.
3 6. The school subjects should be determined by information that is essential for all
students to know.
2 7. Schools, above all, should develop students’ abilities to think deeply,
analytically, and creatively; than develop their social skills or provide them with a useful
body of knowledge about the ever-changing world.
4 8. Teaching should prepare students for analyzing and solving types of problems
they will face outside the classroom.
2 9. Reality is determined by each individual’s perceptions. There is no objective and
universal reality.
3 10. People are shaped much more by their environment than by their genetic
dispositions or the exercise of their free will.
3 11. Students should not be promoted from one grade to the next until they have read
and mastered certain key material.
2 12. An effective education is not aimed at the immediate needs of the students or
society.
4 13. The curriculum of a school should be built around the personal experiences and
needs of the students.
1 14. Students who do not want to study much should not be required to do so.
2 15. Programmed learning is an effective method of teaching information.
3 16. Academic rigor is an essential component of education.
3 17. All students, regardless of ability, should study more or less the same
curriculum.
4 18. Art classes should focus primarily on individual expression and creativity.
2 19. Effective learning is unstructured and informal.
2 20. Students learn best through reinforcement.
2 21. Effective schools assign a substantial amount of homework.
2 22. Education should focus on the discussion of timeless questions such as “What
is beauty?” or “What is truth?”
4 23. Since students learn effectively through social interaction, schools should plan
for substantial social interaction in their curricula.
3 24. The purpose of school is to help students understand themselves and find the
meaning of their existence.
3 25. Frequent objective testing is the best way to determine what students know.
2 26. Countries must become more competitive economically with other countries
hence schools must bolster their academic requirements to facilitate such competition.
4 27.Students must be taught to appreciate learning primarily for its own sake, because
it will help them in their careers.
4 28. Schools must place more emphasis on teaching about the concerns of minorities
and women.
4 29. Each person has free will to develop as he or she sees fit.
3 30. Reward students well for learning and they will remember and be able to apply
what they learned, even if do not understand why information is worth knowing.
4 31. Philippine schools should attempt to instill traditional Filipino values in students.
3 32. Teacher-guided discovery of profound truths is a key method of teaching
students.
3 33. Students should be active participants in learning process.
3 34. There are no external standards of beauty. Beauty is what an individual decides
it to be.
4 35. We can replace a lot of faith in our schools and teachers to determine which
student’s behaviors are acceptable and which are not.
4 36. Schools must provide students with a firm grasp of basic facts regarding the
books, people, and events that have shaped the Filipino heritage.
3 37. Philosophy is ultimately at least as practical a subject to study as is computer
science.
4 38. Teachers must stress for students the relevance of what they are learning for
their lives outside, as well as inside, the classroom.
3 39. It is more important for a student to develop a positive self-concept than to learn
specific concept.
4 40. Learning is more effective when students are given frequent tests to determine
what they have learned.

My Observations
The teacher addresses students’ needs through engaging them into activities which
are beneficial on the part of the students. Her main focus is on how the learners go on with
the educative process making sure that her students are at the center of teaching-learning
process. She is able to relate the theories applied in Physics into students’ personal lives
and experiences.
The teachers made sure that the environment is free from threats and that students
feel they are free to move and act along. Along the discussion, there are times that the
teacher uses reinforcements to get the desired responses from the students.

My Reflections
The philosophy of education is very important in my future career as a teacher
because through it, I will be guided on how and why to act accordingly in a situation. I will
know what philosophy I will adhere to and it can be my way to better understand the way
of such philosophy and could apply it to my field of specialization. Thus, it is very
important to understand it. My experiences and observations are of great contribution to
my becoming a teacher since those are my guiding stars to be better individual and effective
teacher.
"I believe that
every child is
uniqueand so
comparing a
child to another
child has no
basis"
"Values must be
consistently
practiced by
every child in
order to shape
them"
"Teachers who
provide every
child various
activities are
meant to develop
the body, the mind
and the spirit"

My Future Application
Using the first hand experiences in this activity, how will I use these when I
become a teacher in the future?
a. In teaching and learning, I would see to it that my student are my first priority and
that they may learn something new from me. I’d make them holistic individuals
ready and are equipped with the competencies to face real-life experiences.
b. In addressing diversity of learners, I would gather information on the learning
styles, multiple intelligences and needs of learners so that I can treat them fairly
and equally. As much as possible, I will have a survey with their multi-cultural
backgrounds in order to demonstrate concern for holistic development of learners.
c. In creating a conducive learning environment, I will set good ambiance for my
learners to have better learning. I will promote an environment that is fair and free
from threats. I will accept ideas coming from my students so that they may not feel
discouraged and disturbed.

Bayson Course : BSED- English Year and Section: III Cooperating School : JH Cerilles State College Date of Visit : January 16, 2015 My Future Application Using the first hand experiences in this activity, how will I use these when I become a teacher in the future? a. In teaching and learning, I would see to it that my student are my first priority and that they may learn something new from me. I’d make them holistic individuals ready and are equipped with the competencies to face real-life experiences. b. In addressing diversity of learners, I would gather information on the learning styles, multiple intelligences and needs of learners so that I can treat them fairly and equally. As much as possible, I will have a survey with their multi-cultural backgrounds in order to demonstrate concern for holistic development of learners. c. In creating a conducive learning environment, I will set good ambiance for my learners to have better learning. I will promote an environment that is fair and free from threats. I will accept ideas coming from my students so that they may not feel discouraged and disturbed.
