Student Success
Assume that you are a college student who is academically intelligent, but you don't have the skill of
managing your time throughout the day. You start to wonder what you could do to become a
successful student. Some people believe that in order to have student success the only thing that you
need is intelligence. Some people believe that intelligence is not the only thing that students need
and they also need time management. In the article, "More Important Than Intelligence, This Skill
Enables College Success", author Graham Paul proposes that the best way for students to meet their
success goals is through time management. Mr. Paul reports that college research suggests that
students should create a schedule which will help them manage their time. Student success to me
means that a student has academic success. Study skills are strategies that help you become a
successful student. While I agree that time management is an important factor in student success, I
also believe that it is not the only important factor in student success. Therefore, there are three main
causes of student success: first, having great study skills; second, asking questions and getting help
on whatever you do not understand,; and most importantly, not procrastinating on all your work.

Procrastinating is a bad habit that becomes constant in a student's life if they don't take action to stop
it. For example, they have a test in the next two days and they study in the last minute before the
test. This bad habit is called procrastinating. Procrastinating causes stress because students are
constantly thinking about doing the tasks even though they are putting it off to the side. In order to
not procrastinate they have to organize all the task that they need to complete and make a to–do–list.
Not procrastinating will make a student's life much easier and opens up a door to their student

Importance Of Student To Student Observation
When completing the student to student observation a pre–kindergarten classroom was observed.
There were fifteen students in the classroom with a teacher and an aide. The students were divided
into three groups of four and one group of three. The groups where cycling through an art center that
integrated math supervised by the aide, a literacy and history center supervised by the lead teacher
and a puzzle center. At the art center being observed, students were following picture directions to
count out the right number of materials to complete their turkey hats. Then they had to follow the
directions with the aide's help to assemble the hat. When observing the teacher student interactions,
it was interesting to see the personality of the four students come out. Student one seemed to be
quiet when interacting with the teacher. She seemed to not give more than one or two word answers,
normally yes or no. She didn't seem to want the teacher help or to interact with the aide. Student two
seemed to be the opposite of student one. While she stayed on topic, she gave elaborate and over
detailed answers to the aide. She seemed to want the aide to only pay attention to her and wanted
constant positive feedback from the aide. She seems to get upset when the aide starting helping the
other children and would try to direct the attention back to herself. It almost be a sense of learned
helplessness. Student three seemed to be a mix between student one and two. When the aide would

Student Leadership And The Student Association For Chinese...
Students attending universities, with the emphasis switching from only focusing on academic
experience to combining academic and social performance together. This study is an investigation of
the GPA, family background and demographic predictors of being leaders in the student association
for Chinese university students in elite universities. Questionnaires data were collected from 1661
students in four elite universities in 2013 to 2015. The GPA was identified as the most significant
predictor of being a leader in the student association. Integration into the family background, family
income was also predictive of students ' leadership. Identifying the factors that influence students '

Meanwhile, it is hard to deny that family background has a crucial impact on students' leadership.
Due to the household registration policy, the unequally distributed resources between rural and
urban area lead to the gaps in cultural, social and economic capitals between rural and urban
residents. Li (2013) explains that inadequacy in the capitals in family constraints alienate students
from disadvantaged groups to the 'consecrated ' university activities. Gao et al. (2011) find that
students from high–income family have bigger odds of receiving awards and participating in
activities in the school. Therefore, it is necessary to analysis the impact of family background on
students' leadership.
Research Problem:
Does an increase in students' GPA predict an increase in the changes of being a leader of student
association at elite universities when controlling for students' family background?
Methods:
The data of this paper are coming from a longitudinal study on a group of undergraduate students at
four large, research–intensive, elite public universities in China. Designed and conducted by a team
at the University of Hong Kong, the study used a multi–stage, proportionate stratified sampling
method to draw a random sample of college students based on the student enrollment record. All
questionnaires were distributed by the researchers and self–administered by respondents. 2,000
survey questionnaires were distributed in 2013, and the

Japanese Students Are Better Educate Than American Students
Japanese education is very influential to the youth of Japan. It can affect students future and plays a
big role in society today. Some people believe that students in Japan are better educated than the
students in United States. While some people think this is not true, there are many strong reasons
that prove this is accurate. One reason that Japanese students are better educated than Americans is
that the Japanese students are more intelligent than American students. Strong evidence that proves
this is true is that Japanese students take "cram schools" to help get better, higher scores for entrance
exams that they take. In 1996, it was not uncommon for a Japanese student to commit to studying
and doing homework about two hours every weekday.

The Cohort Of Student Students
Although Americans believe the "cohort" conception is innovative, yet China has been employing it
for decades. All through China, students start in a school are place into classes and they reside in
those classes in the company of each other for the whole time in that school except higher tests,
which allow them to shift to a more superior group. It is understood in the Chinese structure that this
grouping of students will deal with all of their subjects mutually. While in America, these types of
student groups do not exist into classes. Instead, the thirty students that are together for Math class
will be at random dividing into every of the new subjects for the next period and so on. While the
next year, students are completely mixed up again into dissimilar classes. Rarely, the similar class of
students will get two courses together, like English and history, however this case is rare. In contrast,
the Chinese hold the cohort conception into the university stage as well. Students are kept together
for each of their mandatory courses, the entire time period they are at university.
Chinese education is constructed on what Americans name looping. This method allows the teachers
in the incoming class to track their similar students to the subsequent level of grade and the next. In
America, it is very atypical for teachers to go with their students from one level grade to the
subsequent level. The middle or high–level school permits to loop for the whole phase of time, as

Student Affairs And Student Development
Student personnel point of view encompasses the student as a whole. The concept of education is
broadened o the student''s well rounded development– physically, socially, emotionally and
spiritually as well as intellectually. (sppv) Student affairs not only emphasize on academic
excellence but to shape each individual as a unique human by providing a holistic learning and
living environment. Student Affairs professionals play a pivotal role in the development of the
students. By applying different theories in student development, they can foster student learning to
help them shape their identity. Student affairs staff members must view themselves as educators to
refute the belief that learning is held only in the classroom. (contested issue, 29). Learning does not
only occur in the classroom but through out of class activities as well. Student affairs staff should
talk about student learning and development to enhance the multiplicity of growth areas for students
in higher education. These learning and development experiences do not simply happen to students.
They happen with their active involvement. There are numerous branches of fields in student affairs
that attend to the unique needs of each individual. Residence Director trains Residence assistance to
cater to the needs of first year students who are new to the college environment. RA plays a major
role of introducing the life of college through building relationships and community to help them

Aig Students
The majority of people don't know the real definition of an AIG student. According to The North
Carolina Academically or Intellectually Gifted Program Standards AIG students are "Academically
or intellectually gifted students perform or show the potential to perform at substantially high level
of accomplishment when compared with others of their age, experience, or environment.
Academically or intellectually gifted students exhibit high performance capability in intellectual
areas, specific academic fields, or in both the intellectual area and specific academic fields." When
looking at different perspectives one common ground is that AIG students tend to stand out more
academically than average students. During my interview with a former AIG student and now a
teacher of AIG students, I found it interesting that she didn't prefer working with AIG students; she
stated, "I personally think it depends on their personality." From listening to her past experiences ...

and Emotional Lives of Gifted Children some practical advice for guiding the gifted is recognizing
and respecting the relationship between social and emotional needs and academic needs, providing
opportunities for downtime, and most importantly teaching gifted students ways to manage stress.
The moral of educating AIG students is that they can come in many different ways, and always have
room for improvement. Teachers, parents, and counselors are all involved in an AIG students
personal and academic life. AIG students can always improve on communication, building
relationships with outsiders, and developing their identity to their surroundings and peers. Also, these
improvements can not only be made with AIG students, but also average students too. Always be

Examining Student Success: The effectiveness of Peer support and Student Engagement on Student
Success
The use of peer–leader instructional learning (PIL), has been shown to be positively correlated with
improving student self–efficacy, learning, grades, and confidence in past research (Hughes, 2011).
However, most of this research has been carried out in Science, Technology Engineering, and
Mathematics (STEM) courses (e.g. upper level physics courses) (Murray, 2011). More research is
needed in order to determine if implementation within social science learning environments would
parallel the results that have been noted in STEM learning environments. The PIL is a student that
facilitates the material given to other students in order to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Student academic success (e.g., satisfactory exam grades) will be measured in relation to peer
support and student engagement. The purpose of this study is to provide further research on the
relationship between the use of peer instructional learning and peer support and students'
engagement within PSYC 1101 courses. Peer support and student engagement with psychology,

Cognitive Gains Associated with Peer Learning
Many researchers are interested in the potential association between the implementation of
collaborative peer learning instruction and the improvement of pre–test and post–test scores on
cognitive tasks (e.g. memory, problem solving). Interactive peer learning environments allow
students to interact with one another, examine alternative explanations, and think critically in a
team–oriented way (Gok, 2013). Such benefits have even been demonstrated in studies with
participants who have developmental and learning issues as shown by Utley et al. (2001). Utley et
al., (2001) found that student weekly post–test scores on health and safety facts increased from 18%
(beginning of the semester) to 100% at the end of the semester, as a result of collaborative peer
instruction that involved the teacher, the paraprofessional, and the learning volunteer.
On the other hand, although such collaborative PIL structures, have also been demonstrated in
students with high learning needs,

Student Procrastination

Student Procrastination Is procrastination a student's worst enemy? Statistics show that about eighty
to ninety percent of college students procrastinate, and this causes problems when it comes to their
line of study or coursework. Student procrastination can negatively impact their lives by causing
stress, unhappiness, and a lazy work ethic; though, there can be solutions to this problem.
Procrastination is a well–known habit of a majority of students. This mindset, whether intentional or
unintentional, occurs when it comes to accomplishing classwork, projects, or even basic life tasks.
Putting these tasks aside to do later will eventually become become problematic. A good ... Show

Since the student is putting off the completion of their assignment, but knows it is coming up, it
causes him or her to stress about it. Most students also may put off the assignment until the last
minute, not giving them enough time to prepare or gather information for the assignment. Another
way procrastination has a negative effect on students is how it affects their happiness. After
postponing the start of their assignment, the student starts becoming regretful and feels guilty for
putting off the work. When students continue the habit of procrastinating their work, they become
lazy in other areas of their lies. By doing things last minute, a person develops the habit of doing
other tasks last minute, giving him or her more time to just loiter around. Although there are many
problems that can result from procrastinating, there are some solutions to keep from doing so. One
thing that would benefit students who struggle with procrastination would be time management. If
students learn to develop good time management skills, then they would be able to accomplish a
plethora of tasks. They wouldn't have to deal with the stress of wondering if it will be completed or
not. Also, developing time–management skills could help benefits students in other areas of their
lives. Another solution that would greatly benefit students in helping with the problem

Texting On Students
The Impact of Texting on students In Marketing Classes In their article Clayson and Haley, reported

that texting can affect students because they cannot be focus on the lectures if they are texting. The
reason of Clayson and Haley´s investigation was to know how texting really affects students'
behaviors, and how frequently they text people or friends. For these research, Clayson and Haley
have made a survey which showed them the thoughts of students who were attending marketing
classes in two different universities. As a result of their research, Clayson and Haley confirmed that
marketing students tried to follow the lecture while listening to the lecture. For Clayson and Haley,
texting makes the class less formal and not professional. Even though students know that they
cannot be texting in the classroom, they continue to do so. Results of texting during class, makes
students have lower grades and GPAs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe that Clayson and Haley used excellent points in their article such as questions that allow
them to know how frequently students text while in class. However, their research does not show
some motives students have for texting while in class. For example, some reasons for texting in the
classroom are boring professors, difficult subjects, or social networks. In addition, talking about
multitasking, I believe that multitasking does not have a strong relation with texting in class because
students are able to read, see the board, and take notes at the same time. Even, some students can
write better on their electronic devices instead of using notebooks. I consider that multitasking

Affecting Students By Flormaria Quinones: Motivating Students
"Motivating Students"
By Flormaria Quinones
Educators throughout the nation have become frustrated with the demand of how to encourage and
motivate their students especially those that are not prepared academically and socially. In this case
a student will generally display disruptive behavior, a lack of interest, and unrealistic ambitions.
Once an educator is able to identify the different factors that affect a student's motivation along with
a few helpful strategies he or she will be able to create the educational motivation needed for
effective student learning.
The fundamental aim of motivation within an educational environment is to essentially make certain
that their students are continuously encouraged in order for them to complete any task effectively.
The core significance of student motivational approaches is to aid an educator in boosting up student
morale. An additional role of motivation is to ensure that even when students are facing a difficult
time outside of school they are always encouraged to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The affect is typically positive since it enhances a person's level of energy, improves the endurance
while accomplishing a particular goal along with improving a their thinking process. There are two
types of motivation; extrinsic which is resolute by a person's environmental surroundings and
certain tasks. Intrinsic originates from a person's consideration of how invaluable a task can be
perceived. (Ormrod, J., 2014) As a result, when employing the influence that motivation has on the
process of learning it is evident that people learn effectively based on how valuable they perceive
the task, subject material, individual goals and a variety of other factors to be. Students are usually
motivated by extrinsic elements whereas others maybe entirely motivated by intrinsic elements in
either situation the information attained is of enormous value to them in order to achieve their

Helping Other Students On Young Students
This paper is an attempt to assist other students on how to become successful in college. There is a
lot of pressure in college and course topics may seem difficult to understand or retain but there is
always assistance in your college. The first topic I would like to cover is stress. Here is something to
keep in mind if stress occurs. Did you know that stress could make you lose your short term and a
long–term memory? Well it can. Therefore, in order to think clearly, to learn while in class, and
retain the information learned in courses you will have to lesson your stress. For instance, you are in
class and trying to listen to the teacher but you cannot. This is because your mind is thinking about
other things that makes you stress out e.g. other classes, upcoming test, and wondering is mom
giving away all your favorite pants to the Goodwill. These stressors are making you lose focus and
unable to think clearly and your retention is completely gone. Now, we need to make sure stress
does not happen to you. Again, do not let stress control you! When stress occurs take long deep
breathes and tell yourself that everything is going to be okay and make sure you stay calm as well.
Another piece of advice that may assist a college student in becoming successful is good work ethic.
Work ethic means to work hard and give your all in doing the best that can be done while in college.
You need to believe in yourself, work hard, and giving your all. Working hard should

Student Volunteering : The Benefits Of Student Volunteering
Influencing your community, changing the mindsets of others for the benefit of our ever so negative
society, it is a job only fit for some, Those that take on this role in their community and or friend
group seem to find an exhilarating feeling of satisfaction and happiness out of putting smiles on
others. The beauty of it all is how many different ways someone can influence and change their
surroundings, each task has its and no activity can be labeled as far more important. For one, and
probably a more popular option, is student volunteering which in it of itself is a very wide range and
vague topic. Another important way one can get into the minds of others would be through their own
voice. By being able to share their message they are also practicing and improving their public
speaking skills. In the end of the day all of these are the building blocks and the characteristics of a
leader. It is for these leaders in our community that more schools county wide including Mater
Lakes Academy should have a Student Influencers Club or a Student Council. A primary and
foundation to influencing others is by just being able to help around the community. It is probably
exactly for this reason that student volunteering began. Take for example Cardiff, the capital of
wales, here in this city it is said that " Student volunteering has been an integral part of Cardiff's
student community activities since the 1960's," (The Benefits Of Student Volunteering, Kathryn

How Do Student Athletes Complete Coursework While Traveling?
Many student athletes naturally struggle to complete coursework while traveling because of hectic,
demanding schedules. There are many techniques and opportunities that help student athletes meet
their study program requirements.
Take Advantage of Student Resources
Most schools offer special resources and policy exceptions for student athletes. Schools usually
provide fairs that introduce student athletes to clubs and organizations that may help at the
beginning of the school year. They may also provide information booths that provide helpful
resources. Colleges with strong student–athletic programs may offer unique academic services, such
as exclusive access to libraries, study halls and departmental facilities. Student athletes should know
that they may spend a short amount of time on their campus, so they may have limited familiarity of
the school. This includes the functions and locations of buildings and departments. Becoming
familiar with the school will help students successfully complete coursework.

Student Adjustment
Student adjustment is a critical issue concerning student retention, because if a student can't adjust
to being a college student then more than likely they will drop out or struggle throughout college to
finish. Most, if not all universities realize that the First Year Experience (FYE) is critical to retaining
students. Some schools go to great lengths to help their freshman students adjust to being away from
home and being a college student. Whether the university chooses to or not the FYE is an important
factor in determining the success of a student at that university. While researching the University of

Students like feeling valued also, so it is important for professors and personnel to get to know their
students names, or at least recognize them as a student if you can't remember their name. Institutions
can help their students adjust by having a dynamic program set up for the FYE students. To help the
students adjust schools should have orientation programs, counseling, mentors, campus events, and
other events catered specifically for the incoming freshman. Institutions should also have these
events set up to where upperclassman can participate also, and maybe serve as a representative or
mentor to the underclassman. Freshman eventually become sophomores and on up and you want
them to feel valued also. Students are less likely to utilize resources if they are not exposed to them
in different contexts, for instance having all of the different resources available in one place on
orientation day is helpful to students. Learning communities are a great way for institutions to help
students adjust to college. In LC's the students live, study, and attend the same classes together.

The Influence Of Student Habits And Student Athletes
For any college student, one of the most important things to be learned is good time management
and study skills. This becomes even more imperative when the student in question is an athlete and
has the majority of their day planned out for them. Being a student athlete comes with its own
unique set of challenges, including finding a way to balance the amount of time they allot to the
sport they play and to their studies. It is a common perception that student athletes spend less time
and efforts on their studies than the average college student, but it is not that simple. When
considering whether or not student athletes focus the appropriate amount of time on school work, it
is necessary to take a deeper look at why they focus on what they do, and some of the factors that
influence an athlete and the academic habits they have formed. If student athletes are focusing more
on athletics, it would be helpful to understand what drives them to do so; likewise, knowing why
athletes are just as dedicated to their academics as they are athletics could help pave the way for all
student athletes in the future. Most athletes that are more concerned with their academics have
something or someone that influence their academic habits. Influencing factors can include things
such as needing to maintain a certain GPA for their coach or a scholarship, or potentially that they
use the drive they have developed as an athlete off the court as well.

lesson plans, analyze student work, discuss successes and failures, and learn through high–quality
professional development. Imagine a system in which students can't fall through the cracks because
they're backed by a team of teachers, not just the one at the front of the room. (Weingarten 2010)
Weingarten's though of teachers collaboration by means of improving teaching methods is
influential, and the notion of teachers considerately generating "collective wisdom" is attractive for
those teachers who desire to exchange information and precious data from colleagues as they
develop their teaching career. Goddard and Goddard (2010) as cited in Burton (2015) stated that
teachers are professionals and own irreplaceable awareness about their students and the ways they
learn. Successful collaboration takes place when teachers' skill and knowledge are spread and
instruction is improved. Teachers with different ranks of knowledge and experience that
cooperatively emphasis on refining student learning are most beneficial in growing student success.

Aig Students
How would you define a student that is always reaching maximum achievement in school and
continues to choose to go above and beyond what is necessary. This type of student is known as an
AIG student. You may be wondering what AIG means exactly, it stands for an academically or
intellectually gifted student. This type of student takes up between six to ten percent of the entire
population of students in the United States. In this paper, I will include information about AIG
students. I will also provide you with different perspectives and what their views are of AIG
students.
The National Association for gifted Children (NAGC) has provided very useful and interesting
information surrounding AIG students. Like previously stated only around ... Show more content on

Now we will look from the perspective of a parent of an AIG student. In an interview with a parent
of an AIG student, I asked several questions. This is how she chose to define an AIG student, " A
student that is extremely self–motivated. They must be enthusiastic and eager to further the depth of
their learning." Another question I asked was whether AIG students should receive harder and more
complex work. " I think that they should receive harder work." I think this because with harder work
they are able to continue their learning process. I also asked her if she thought it would cost more to
educate an AIG student? "No, I do not think so because an AIG student most likely would not
require a tudor. This means money for tudors would not be spent. Though money for special books
and other resources would still be needed. With all this in consideration the cost would still be less."
Other questions I asked included what she thought was the best and the worst thing about being the
parent of an AIG student. " The best part of being a parent of an AIG student is that it is easy and
you do not have to try and persuade them into doing their work. With an AIG child they have
initiative and do start work on their own without having to pester them into doing it. The worst thing
about being the parent of an AIG student is that I worry that the pace

Student Mentorship
One of the primary complaints I hear from my fellow students concerns the schism between college
faculty and the professional world. Specifically, students hoping to enter the business world are
learning from professors who have never been employed outside of academia.
Before I go any further, understand that I'm certainly not an anti–intellectual; I respect those who
have elected to pursue advanced degrees and research. However, sometimes it is beneficiary for a
student to experience mentorship from those who have faced the challenges of working in the
private sector.

Autistic Students
One has only to do a quick search on the Internet today to find a plethora of scholarly and anecdotal
articles discussing the benefits of using iPads with autistic students. iPads have been claimed to
increase communication skills, increase academic responding, and improve social skills in autistic
individuals. While I have been interested in the work done by others in this field, until this past
school year, I had had only had two students with Aspberger's in my classroom, and both were my
students some years before iPads made their debut in 2010.
I am a regular education classroom teacher, at a Title 1 school. I have been a 1:1 IOS device teacher
for four years; two with iPod touches, and two with iPads. I do not hold a special education
credential, although I do have some college credit in this area of study. As stated above, I have had a

near Steven, trying to respond to his outbursts. We met with his mother, I spoke with his second

Students and Plagiarism
It is often difficult for today's students to avoid plagiarism. In some cases, plagiarism is
unintentional because students were never taught proper methods for researching and writing
papers. In other cases, students feel so pressured balancing coursework with the demands of a job or
family perhaps both that they resort to plagiarism in order to complete their assignments. Some
students excuse plagiarism with the claim that "everyone does it," and it is a matter of keeping up
with peers. None of these scenarios makes plagiarism acceptable, but it does make it easier to
understand why it occurs. Hamilton (2003) noted there are honest students whose plagiarism is
unintentional "because they do not fully understand how to summarize, paraphrase, and make
correct bibliographic citations." Students may truly believe that substituting synonyms (e.g.,
"happy" for "glad") makes the words their own. Many students do not realize that structure and
ideas, not just words, can be copied. As technology advances, the temptation to cheat becomes over
powering. The Internet has become a speedier and easier way to gain knowledge. Visiting the library
has been replaced by a simple visit to a computer (Read, 2004). Unfortunately, many students try to
use the Internet as opposed to the subscription–based databases (such as Academic Search Premier)
that all academic libraries make available to students. Students may not feel comfortable using these
databases and unless there is instruction,

Student Reflection
As I've mentioned previously we departmentalize at Chattahoochee. I teach three math and a social
studies and writing/grammar class. I have 27 students in my first math rotation, 24 in the second,
and 22 in the third. In math I mainly ability group students as a more effective way of differentiating
instruction to meet the needs of my students. These groups are very fluid though depending on the
AKS/skill. The groups often change weekly if not daily depending on the activity planned. My first
rotation is AC math, but I still have several student they need a little extra help on certain topics and
they are still vary in their abilities. However, in this class and the others at times the kids are also
grouped based on common misconceptions. In Social Studies, I use various types of grouping
depending on the activity. When we jigsaw I will normally use heterogeneous groups, but use
homogeneous for projects.
In my homeroom class I have two EIP (Early Intervention Program) student receiving extra reading
and math support, three ESOL (English as a Second Language), nine students who are identifies as
gifted, and the rest of the students on or above grade level in math and reading. On the other two
classes I have eleven EIP students and nine ESOL students combines. In this week's reading, several
articles discuss the different ways of grouping students based on ability within or between classes,

effects of student stress and efficient ways to manage this emotional and physical strain.

than half of students (53%) said they had become more stressed since starting university.

1. More and more students have to pay for college on their own, or with little assistance from their
parents. Learning how to live on one's own and today's complicated financial world is stressful, and
it's no wonder that some students would rather drop out and get a job rather than continue studing. 2.
All the academic activities–clubs, jobs, teams, grades, assignments, classes a student has to
accomplice form a big" ball" of stress. 3. Managing time can be quite stressful for anyone as busy as
the modern day college student. Many students lose sleep or feel as if they just don't have enough
time to accomplish what they need to accomplish. 4. Roommate conflict is almost the first one that
comes as starting life on campus. College students are forced to live with people who may have
different values, beliefs, schedules, and habits than they do. There's nothing worse than having to
sleep in the same room as someone you'd normally hate or never talk to. 5. Many relationships are
started (and ended) throughout college years. Those who are in relationships have to deal with the
stresses of arguments, seeing someone too much, seeing someone not enough and those pesky long–
distance relationships. Transition Now that we have covered all the essential sources of stress it will
be most appropriate to continue with the effects of the stress.
B. Effects of student stress.

Student Loans
Student Loans
The federal government has the power to cutback the funding of student loans. There are several
different ways the government can go about doing this. One way is to keep the amount of each loan
the same and reduce the number of loans granted. Another option the government has is to reduce
the amount of each loan and issue the same number as in the past. Either way, students that belong
to a low–income family will be greatly affected. Cutbacks in the funding of student loans have
several effects. One effect is less fortunate individuals will miss the opportunity of attending
college. However, it is not that the poor are unintelligent, but can not afford to attend college
without a loan. There is no such rule, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a case such as this, young adults will be forced to drop out of school and into the work field.
Student loans help low–income families to achieve their highest potential. Another effect is that
many colleges will become financially burdened. The amount of money a school receives depends
on the number of students enrolled. This money is divided among the schools fixed costs that
include teacher salaries, programs, new equipment, and campus beautification. With a decrease in
students several sacrifices will have to be made. For example, there might not be enough money to
pay all the teachers that are currently staffed. As a result many of them will be laid off. There will
also be a cutback in the number of classes, which are being offered due to the limited staff.
Equipment such as microscopes, computers, and lab supplies will not be updated and replaced as
quickly as well. College sports programs maybe one of the first to be cancelled because given such
tight budget educators will want to put their funds toward academics. Finally, the economy as a
whole will suffer. In toadays work field businesses usually search for well–educated individuals to
add to their successful team. As student enrollment drops there are less educated students that
graduate. This makes it difficult for businesses to find individuals with the right knowledge,
training, and skills for open positions. When a business is understaffed, they have a difficult time in

Student Shootings
On October 1, 2015, Christopher Harper–Mercer walked into Umpqua Community College and shot
eighteen people. A week later shootings occurred at universities in Arizona and Texas leaving two
dead. According to a study in 2013, the FBI identified thirty–nine active shooting cases in
educational settings, and these cases accounted for the highest number of casualties(_). With the
threat of active shootings in educational settings, many universities are trying to increase security on
college campuses in order to protect students and staff members. The need for heightened security
allows universities to constantly monitor the activities of students in order to create a safe
environment. Many universities, such as Loyola University Chicago, implement guidelines that aid
in controlling students and creating docile individuals. At Loyola University Chicago, it utilizes
surveillance cameras and identification cards to protect students. Moreover, the need for control
transcends surveillance for security reasons and is utilized in academics through the grading ...

Universities attempt to combat the issue through protective means. At Loyola, the use of technology
contributes to the protection of students since it allows for continuous monitoring of the campus.
However, the increase in technology also gives the university access into the whereabouts of
students since the methods used to restrict access to facilities only to students. This mode of
surveillance makes it easier for the university to establish control over individuals while protecting
the institution. Moreover, indirect surveillance through a rigorous grading system causes students to
work efficiently in order to avoid academic punishment. The methods utilized by Loyola University
reflects Foucault's ideas of power because the university places students under constant observation

Students and Staff are the most Important Stakeholders and Customers on Campus (Raisman 2012).

mayor stakeholder groups when it comes to hospitality and customer service for any university or

Instructors should care about our opinion in the survey because this is a way for us as students to
provide feedback on how a professor is doing in class and how they can improve the class if needed.
Post University should care about what students have to say in a survey because the university wants
to continue growing and providing better services to the students. Also, by gathering information

Student Loan System For College Students
Student Loan System Throughout the ages, society has evolved to overcome the challenges it faces
from one generation to the next, by learning and advancing further than the previous ones. It has
undergone a vast number of changes; however, mankind has never undermined the importance and
necessity of a complex and well–educated society. Moreover, it is the duty of each one of us to make
sure that the next generation takes a step further than the previous one. With this in mind, society
has understood the importance of higher education for the future. Yet, the hesitation we witness
today to pursue a degree is due to the high cost of student loans. Truly this is a terrifying thing
which cannot be ignored, as it has a direct impact on the future. This indicates how unfair the
student loan system is for college students today.
A college education has become a necessity in this day and age; however, its costs have become a
cause of discouragement for anyone willing to pursue it. Student loans have become one of the
highly debated topics of the modern century, so much so that it has begun questioning the need for a
college education. Student loans aid students with their expenses, in order for students to focus on
their careers and futures. Unlike in the past, when student loans had a considerably low–interest rate
and the repayment schedule could be deferred while the student was still in school, student loans of
today with their huge interest rates have gotten completely out of

students because it teaches them the importance of citizenship and the importance of the democratic

students, teachers, and parents because the program teaches students how to manage their behavior
in a positive manner. Teachers benefit because they receive the additional support for maintaining a
classroom environment that is conducive to learning and parents benefit because they know that the
school has a vested interest in the success of their child. Another area that I would suggest as an area
for improvement would be parental involvement. Although

In the first place, the interest rates have been rigged to increase dramatically in a very short period
of time. The interest on the student loans has increased substantially resulting in huge debts for the
outgoing graduate. These rates have skyrocketed, "The average student loan debt was $18,550 in
2004; this figure has doubled over the decade and now represents a 56% increase" compared to the
previous decade and we are fully aware that paying off such a debt would take a lifetime and is very
difficult (End The Debt). This has begun giving graduate students the feeling of a never–ending
debt. Due to this, there are a huge number of high–school students who are re–considering a college
degree, even though they are fully aware of the necessity of qualification for many jobs.
An interesting fact is how the student loan system has made a conscious effort to incorporate
international students to finance their full–time MBA degrees. An example of this would be, "The
Simon Business School at the University of Rochester in New York is offering a student loan
program, with student loans ranging from $1,000 to the full cost of tuition" this is a very useful
benefit to international students (Other News).
However, it has become extremely complicated for Muslim students to even access these student
loans as "Muslim students cannot claim a student loan mainly due to their religious belief that

Why Students To Hire Students In College
There are so many students who say they are hardworking and can handle the pressure from a solid
college workload. However too many times these students fall behind in their studies and though
they probably don't mean to end up just trying to "survive" their classes. This is exactly what
professors fear though they have no reason to with me. I always put my best foot forward and have
had more than enough experience winning the fight against stress. When you look for students to
hire I am sure you are looking for ambitious individuals with a knack for learning. If so then you
don't need to look any further considering I am both of those things. However I am not
overconfident when it comes to learning considering I don't know everything. I

Student Success

  • 1. Student Success Assume that you are a college student who is academically intelligent, but you don't have the skill of managing your time throughout the day. You start to wonder what you could do to become a successful student. Some people believe that in order to have student success the only thing that you need is intelligence. Some people believe that intelligence is not the only thing that students need and they also need time management. In the article, "More Important Than Intelligence, This Skill Enables College Success", author Graham Paul proposes that the best way for students to meet their success goals is through time management. Mr. Paul reports that college research suggests that students should create a schedule which will help them manage their time. Student success to me means that a student has academic success. Study skills are strategies that help you become a successful student. While I agree that time management is an important factor in student success, I also believe that it is not the only important factor in student success. Therefore, there are three main causes of student success: first, having great study skills; second, asking questions and getting help on whatever you do not understand,; and most importantly, not procrastinating on all your work. One of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Procrastinating is a bad habit that becomes constant in a student's life if they don't take action to stop it. For example, they have a test in the next two days and they study in the last minute before the test. This bad habit is called procrastinating. Procrastinating causes stress because students are constantly thinking about doing the tasks even though they are putting it off to the side. In order to not procrastinate they have to organize all the task that they need to complete and make a to–do–list. Not procrastinating will make a student's life much easier and opens up a door to their student ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Importance Of Student To Student Observation When completing the student to student observation a pre–kindergarten classroom was observed. There were fifteen students in the classroom with a teacher and an aide. The students were divided into three groups of four and one group of three. The groups where cycling through an art center that integrated math supervised by the aide, a literacy and history center supervised by the lead teacher and a puzzle center. At the art center being observed, students were following picture directions to count out the right number of materials to complete their turkey hats. Then they had to follow the directions with the aide's help to assemble the hat. When observing the teacher student interactions, it was interesting to see the personality of the four students come out. Student one seemed to be quiet when interacting with the teacher. She seemed to not give more than one or two word answers, normally yes or no. She didn't seem to want the teacher help or to interact with the aide. Student two seemed to be the opposite of student one. While she stayed on topic, she gave elaborate and over detailed answers to the aide. She seemed to want the aide to only pay attention to her and wanted constant positive feedback from the aide. She seems to get upset when the aide starting helping the other children and would try to direct the attention back to herself. It almost be a sense of learned helplessness. Student three seemed to be a mix between student one and two. When the aide would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Students attending universities, with the emphasis switching from only focusing on academic experience to combining academic and social performance together. This study is an investigation of the GPA, family background and demographic predictors of being leaders in the student association for Chinese university students in elite universities. Questionnaires data were collected from 1661 students in four elite universities in 2013 to 2015. The GPA was identified as the most significant predictor of being a leader in the student association. Integration into the family background, family income was also predictive of students ' leadership. Meanwhile, it is hard to deny that family background has a crucial impact on students' leadership. Due to the household registration policy, the unequally distributed resources between rural and urban area lead to the gaps in cultural, social and economic capitals between rural and urban residents. Li (2013) explains that inadequacy in the capitals in family constraints alienate students from disadvantaged groups to the 'consecrated ' university activities. Gao et al. (2011) find that students from high–income family have bigger odds of receiving awards and participating in activities in the school. Therefore, it is necessary to analysis the impact of family background on students' leadership. Research Problem: Does an increase in students' GPA predict an increase in the changes of being a leader of student association at elite universities when controlling for students' family background? Methods: The data of this paper are coming from a longitudinal study on a group of undergraduate students at four large, research–intensive, elite public universities in China. Designed and conducted by a team at the University of Hong Kong, the study used a multi–stage, proportionate stratified sampling method to draw a random sample of college students based on the student enrollment record. All questionnaires were distributed by the researchers and self–administered by respondents. 2,000 survey questionnaires were distributed in 2013, and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some people believe that students in Japan are better educated than the students in United States. While some people think this is not true, there are many strong reasons that prove this is accurate. One reason that Japanese students are better educated than Americans is that the Japanese students are more intelligent than American students. Strong evidence that proves this is true is that Japanese students take "cram schools" to help get better, higher scores for entrance exams that they take. In 1996, it was not uncommon for a Japanese student to commit to studying and doing homework about two hours every weekday. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The Cohort Of Student Students Although Americans believe the "cohort" conception is innovative, yet China has been employing it for decades. All through China, students start in a school are place into classes and they reside in those classes in the company of each other for the whole time in that school except higher tests, which allow them to shift to a more superior group. It is understood in the Chinese structure that this grouping of students will deal with all of their subjects mutually. While in America, these types of student groups do not exist into classes. Instead, the thirty students that are together for Math class will be at random dividing into every of the new subjects for the next period and so on. While the next year, students are completely mixed up again into dissimilar classes. Rarely, the similar class of students will get two courses together, like English and history, however this case is rare. In contrast, the Chinese hold the cohort conception into the university stage as well. Students are kept together for each of their mandatory courses, the entire time period they are at university. Chinese education is constructed on what Americans name looping. This method allows the teachers in the incoming class to track their similar students to the subsequent level of grade and the next. In America, it is very atypical for teachers to go with their students from one level grade to the subsequent level. The middle or high–level school permits to loop for the whole phase of time, as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The concept of education is broadened o the student''s well rounded development– physically, socially, emotionally and spiritually as well as intellectually. (sppv) Student affairs not only emphasize on academic excellence but to shape each individual as a unique human by providing a holistic learning and living environment. Student Affairs professionals play a pivotal role in the development of the students. By applying different theories in student development, they can foster student learning to help them shape their identity. Student affairs staff members must view themselves as educators to refute the belief that learning is held only in the classroom. (contested issue, 29). Learning does not only occur in the classroom but through out of class activities as well. Student affairs staff should talk about student learning and development to enhance the multiplicity of growth areas for students in higher education. According to The North Carolina Academically or Intellectually Gifted Program Standards AIG students are "Academically or intellectually gifted students perform or show the potential to perform at substantially high level of accomplishment when compared with others of their age, experience, or environment. Academically or intellectually gifted students exhibit high performance capability in intellectual areas, specific academic fields, or in both the intellectual area and specific academic fields." When looking at different perspectives one common ground is that AIG students tend to stand out more academically than average students. However, most of this research has been carried out in Science, Technology Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) courses (e.g. upper level physics courses) (Murray, 2011). Cognitive Gains Associated with Peer Learning Many researchers are interested in the potential association between the implementation of collaborative peer learning instruction and the improvement of pre–test and post–test scores on cognitive tasks (e.g. memory, problem solving). Interactive peer learning environments allow students to interact with one another, examine alternative explanations, and think critically in a team–oriented way (Gok, 2013). Such benefits have even been demonstrated in studies with participants who have developmental and learning issues as shown by Utley et al. (2001). Utley et al., (2001) found that student weekly post–test scores on health and safety facts increased from 18% (beginning of the semester) to 100% at the end of the semester, as a result of collaborative peer instruction that involved the teacher, the paraprofessional, and the learning volunteer. Statistics show that about eighty to ninety percent of college students procrastinate, and this causes problems when it comes to their line of study or coursework. Student procrastination can negatively impact their lives by causing stress, unhappiness, and a lazy work ethic; though, there can be solutions to this problem. Most students also may put off the assignment until the last minute, not giving them enough time to prepare or gather information for the assignment. Another way procrastination has a negative effect on students is how it affects their happiness. As a result of their research, Clayson and Haley confirmed that marketing students tried to follow the lecture while listening to the lecture. In addition, talking about multitasking, I believe that multitasking does not have a strong relation with texting in class because students are able to read, see the board, and take notes at the same time. Affecting Students By Flormaria Quinones: Motivating Students "Motivating Students" By Flormaria Quinones Educators throughout the nation have become frustrated with the demand of how to encourage and motivate their students especially those that are not prepared academically and socially. In this case a student will generally display disruptive behavior, a lack of interest, and unrealistic ambitions. Once an educator is able to identify the different factors that affect a student's motivation along with a few helpful strategies he or she will be able to create the educational motivation needed for effective student learning. The fundamental aim of motivation within an educational environment is to essentially make certain that their students are continuously encouraged in order for them to complete any task effectively. • 25. Helping Other Students On Young Students This paper is an attempt to assist other students on how to become successful in college. There is a lot of pressure in college and course topics may seem difficult to understand or retain but there is always assistance in your college. The first topic I would like to cover is stress. Here is something to keep in mind if stress occurs. Did you know that stress could make you lose your short term and a long–term memory? Well it can. Therefore, in order to think clearly, to learn while in class, and retain the information learned in courses you will have to lesson your stress. For instance, you are in class and trying to listen to the teacher but you cannot. This is because your mind is thinking about other things that makes you stress out e.g. other classes, upcoming test, and wondering is mom giving away all your favorite pants to the Goodwill. These stressors are making you lose focus and unable to think clearly and your retention is completely gone. Now, we need to make sure stress does not happen to you. Again, do not let stress control you! When stress occurs take long deep breathes and tell yourself that everything is going to be okay and make sure you stay calm as well. Another piece of advice that may assist a college student in becoming successful is good work ethic. Work ethic means to work hard and give your all in doing the best that can be done while in college. You need to believe in yourself, work hard, and giving your all. Working hard should ... Student Volunteering : The Benefits Of Student Volunteering Influencing your community, changing the mindsets of others for the benefit of our ever so negative society, it is a job only fit for some, Those that take on this role in their community and or friend group seem to find an exhilarating feeling of satisfaction and happiness out of putting smiles on others. The beauty of it all is how many different ways someone can influence and change their surroundings, each task has its and no activity can be labeled as far more important. For one, and probably a more popular option, is student volunteering which in it of itself is a very wide range and vague topic. Another important way one can get into the minds of others would be through their own voice. By being able to share their message they are also practicing and improving their public speaking skills. In the end of the day all of these are the building blocks and the characteristics of a leader. It is for these leaders in our community that more schools county wide including Mater Lakes Academy should have a Student Influencers Club or a Student Council. A primary and foundation to influencing others is by just being able to help around the community. It is probably exactly for this reason that student volunteering began. Take for example Cardiff, the capital of wales, here in this city it is said that " Student volunteering has been an integral part of Cardiff's student community activities since the 1960's," (The Benefits Of Student Volunteering, Kathryn Harrington) ... Many student athletes naturally struggle to complete coursework while traveling because of hectic, demanding schedules. There are many techniques and opportunities that help student athletes meet their study program requirements. Student Adjustment Student adjustment is a critical issue concerning student retention, because if a student can't adjust to being a college student then more than likely they will drop out or struggle throughout college to finish. Most, if not all universities realize that the First Year Experience (FYE) is critical to retaining students. Some schools go to great lengths to help their freshman students adjust to being away from home and being a college student. Whether the university chooses to or not the FYE is an important factor in determining the success of a student at that university. Students like feeling valued also, so it is important for professors and personnel to get to know their students names, or at least recognize them as a student if you can't remember their name. Institutions can help their students adjust by having a dynamic program set up for the FYE students. To help the students adjust schools should have orientation programs, counseling, mentors, campus events, and other events catered specifically for the incoming freshman. Institutions should also have these events set up to where upperclassman can participate also, and maybe serve as a representative or mentor to the underclassman. Freshman eventually become sophomores and on up and you want them to feel valued also. Students are less likely to utilize resources if they are not exposed to them in different contexts, for instance having all of the different resources available in one place on orientation day is helpful to students. Learning communities are a great way for institutions to help students adjust to college. In LC's the students live, study, and attend the same classes together. • 42. The Influence Of Student Habits And Student Athletes For any college student, one of the most important things to be learned is good time management and study skills. This becomes even more imperative when the student in question is an athlete and has the majority of their day planned out for them. Being a student athlete comes with its own unique set of challenges, including finding a way to balance the amount of time they allot to the sport they play and to their studies. It is a common perception that student athletes spend less time and efforts on their studies than the average college student, but it is not that simple. When considering whether or not student athletes focus the appropriate amount of time on school work, it is necessary to take a deeper look at why they focus on what they do, and some of the factors that influence an athlete and the academic habits they have formed. If student athletes are focusing more on athletics, it would be helpful to understand what drives them to do so; likewise, knowing why athletes are just as dedicated to their academics as they are athletics could help pave the way for all student athletes in the future. Most athletes that are more concerned with their academics have something or someone that influence their academic habits. Influencing factors can include things such as needing to maintain a certain GPA for their coach or a scholarship, or potentially that they use the drive they have developed as an athlete off the court as well. Student Collaboration In January 2010, Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers, delivered a speech at the National Press Club entitled "A New Path Forward: Four Approaches to Quality Teaching and Better Schools." In this speech, Weingarten called for more collaboration: Imagine a system in which teachers have time to come together to resolve student issues, share lesson plans, analyze student work, discuss successes and failures, and learn through high–quality professional development. Imagine a system in which students can't fall through the cracks because they're backed by a team of teachers, not just the one at the front of the room. (Weingarten 2010) Weingarten's though of teachers collaboration by means of improving teaching methods is influential, and the notion of teachers considerately generating "collective wisdom" is attractive for those teachers who desire to exchange information and precious data from colleagues as they develop their teaching career. Goddard and Goddard (2010) as cited in Burton (2015) stated that teachers are professionals and own irreplaceable awareness about their students and the ways they learn. Another question I asked was whether AIG students should receive harder and more complex work. " I think that they should receive harder work." I think this because with harder work they are able to continue their learning process. I also asked her if she thought it would cost more to educate an AIG student? • 54. Students and Plagiarism It is often difficult for today's students to avoid plagiarism. In some cases, plagiarism is unintentional because students were never taught proper methods for researching and writing papers. In other cases, students feel so pressured balancing coursework with the demands of a job or family perhaps both that they resort to plagiarism in order to complete their assignments. Some students excuse plagiarism with the claim that "everyone does it," and it is a matter of keeping up with peers. None of these scenarios makes plagiarism acceptable, but it does make it easier to understand why it occurs. Hamilton (2003) noted there are honest students whose plagiarism is unintentional "because they do not fully understand how to summarize, paraphrase, and make correct bibliographic citations." Students may truly believe that substituting synonyms (e.g., "happy" for "glad") makes the words their own. Many students do not realize that structure and ideas, not just words, can be copied.
