1. Hollow Point AS Media Studies Project How did you Attract/Address you Audience?
2.
3. The Setting The school canteen is a popular student hangout that will be familiar to most 16-25 year olds. We chose it because it’s a comfortable setting that people are used to and its easy for young audiences to relate to. The fact that most young people feel comfortable with school settings such as a canteen means that it will attract them to the film.
4. Death and Violence The shooting scene of our film is highly realistic, and contains brutal and horrific violence. The fact that the film uses real life events and camera phones means that it comes as a complete shock when the two teen boys start massacring the students, and the audience feel more of an emotional connection to the characters. Our target audience of teen boys enjoy the fear and adrenaline rush of death and violence, filmed in such a vivid and realistic way.
5. Guns Our film contains two black market Uzi’s and two standard 9mm pistols. People get a vicarious enjoyment from watching gun/knife crime. We are exposed to it so much in newspapers and tabloids and so we can relate to it, but instead of showing it in a glamorous way like some newspapers do, we show it in a realistic way, which increases the tension and fear of the shooters in our opening.
6. The Male and Female Attraction We feature attractive male and female 15-25 year olds in our film, we deliberately did this, as our target audience was the same age. We felt having attractive stars would attract an audience for our product. especially as our film featured guns crime and murder, we felt this would alienate a female audience so having an attractive male audience in it would make them want to see it. The same goes for having an attractive female cast in our film, this would reinforce the male incentive to go to see the film.
7. The Rapping We directed Suleiman to do his freestyle rap in the scene in order not only to appeal to fans of the music, but also to appeal more to a black audience, as many Hollywood films would do nowadays.
