In What Ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? By Jessica Wilson
Here the audience expects something to happen as a victim who upholds the stereotype of a blond woman is brought up onto stage, giving the audience an indication that something is going to happen. As “The Magician” opens we see a magician with his glamorous assistant, which upholds the stereotype that magicians are men with glamorous assistant. We decided to have a stereotypical magician so that the audience would be able to relate to this easily.
Here we have conformed to the stereotype by having the victim wearing a white dress so as to go with the time period but also to highlight her innocence and purity. We have also conformed to the stereotypical dress of a “Magician”, for example the top hat, waistcoat, suit. To make the scene look more effective.
Here we also had the girl highlighted by having her in a glow created on After effects to enhance her innocence When the girl enters the box, this gives the audience the indication that something is going horrible is going to happen to her, being a thriller/ horror this is something that we would expect
This shot shows the assistant walking around the box which was the supposed to highlight her legs making it an appealing factor to men. This upholds the stereotype that woman are alluring characters in films. In this shot it shows the defining moment of when we realise that the girl has been killed, we have a long shot behind the stage so as to highlight the audience’s reactions to the death. We also have the blood in red so as to draw the eye to it, we took inspiration from sin city for this feature.
Here we used our own production company title cards (created on Photoshop) in the opening title sequence. This keeps a professionalism to the film
