2. Media products
For my A2 media coursework I was required
to create a music video, as well as
producing two ancillary products to support
my main media product. I needed to
manufacture and produce a digipak and a
magazine advert.
3. My digipak
In order to create an effective digipak I needed to,
in depth, study and analyze digipaks from music in
the Indie genre that were already produced. I did
this research to find inspiration to create a
successful digipak for my chosen band. My
research included annotating digipaks and
commenting on the features they use that make
them effective.
4. Here I annotated ‘Gorillaz
- Demon Days,’ as I
noticed their digipak used
a different and unique
template that I was
interesting in using.
Whereas this is the digipak
produced to advertise the indie
artist Ed Sheeran and his album
multiply. I noted the iconic green
colour palette his digipak
consisted of and how the artists
themes were used to further
promote him.
5. Finished digipak
Synergy is used within my digipak as I use images directly from the music video,
This familiarizes the audiences with the theme being used and creates a memorable
logoimage for my bands album, making it effective as audiences recognize the imagery.
6. Main inspiration
My main inspiration for
creating my digipak was
Arctic Monkey’s 2006 album
‘Whatever People Say I Am,
That's What I'm Not.’ The
main feature I took inspiration
from was the front and back
covers. Both pictures show
similar stills with little
difference, suggesting both
pictures were taken in the
same sitting. This
emphasizes the sense of
unity between the band and
their fans as the pictures act
as a promotion for ‘behind the
scenes.’
7. Magazine advert
Likewise for my digipak, to research current
magazine adverts I annotated a couple of adverts
I came across using the platform ‘Google,’ and
commented on what made them effective as
advertisements.
8. This magazine advert was
produced for the 2013 Arctic
Monkey’s album ‘AM.’ I
commented on how effective
the simplicity of it was, but how
it would only work on band’s
who were already well known.
The Kook’s magazine advert
for their 2007 ‘inside in /
inside out’ album used
contrasting colours which
worked well in effectively
grabbing the audience’s
attention.
10. I chose to keep the advert simple and minimalistic but I also added some
more information, such as the exclusive content, the website and extra
information about the included songs.
I took major inspiration from both of the adverts I annotated. Using bold
contrasting colours for the band name and album title, as well as printing
the date as large as the titles to add significance to it.
However I also added some extra information so it wasn’t too simplistic. I
commented on how minimalism was effective for the Arctic Monkey’s advert
however it wouldn’t be as effective for CEOL’s as we are not as famous or
as renowned as they are.
11. Conclusion
Overall I think that the combination of both my
digipak and my magazine advert work effectively,
with my music video included.
The two ancillary products alongside my main
product work together as recognizable
components to promote and advertise the chosen
song/band and I am pleased at how all three
turned out.
