This is my answer to question 2 of the evaluation

1. 1. How effective isthe combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
As part of my A2 courseworkIhad to create two ancillaries,one of whichwasCDDigipackand the
otherbeinganalbumposter.The digipackdesigndisplayshow the albumwould lookif itwere to
actuallybe releasedontothe shelves.The albumposterthatI have createdusingAdobe Photoshop
isto advertise the albumandhopefullyappealtomytarget audience.Ihave purposelyaddedthe
same image on the coverof the Digipack,creatingsynergybetweenthemandthe albumposterto
make my productmore recognisable,Ialsofeel thatthisimage representsmymusicvideoverywell
so people whoare interestedinthe albumwillbe aware of the genre before theybuyit.
Againto create my ancillariesI usedGoogle toresearch othermediaproductstogaina greater
understandingof whatmakesasuccessful piece of work.WhencreatingmyDigipackIdecidedto
make the colourscheme blackand white togo withmymusicvideo.It alsoadds to the
representationswhichare presentinmymusicvideo.Mymusicvideoisaboutlookingover
memoriesthata couple have hadtogetherwhichmeansthata lotof myfootage isin the past. All of
the footage withthe youngmale andfemale charactersinrepresentsthe past,forexample:

2. The black and white effectthatI have incorporatedonthe videohelpshighlight the factthatthe
footage isinthe past, alsoI feel thatitadds more emotiontothe musicvideo. EdSheeran’smusic
videoforThe A Team hasinspiredme tohave a monochrome style tomyownas I feel thatthe
reasonwhytheydecidedtodothat was to create emotionwhich helpedwiththe overall narrative.
I decidedtouse an image of a male and female huggingwhichIfeel isextremely stereotypical of the
love genre forthe coverof the CD as well asthe image on the poster.
I alsofeel thatitwill highlightthe overall style of mymusicvideotoaudiences.Forthe CD I have
decidedtouse a zoomedinimage of someone playingthe guitar.Ihave done thisas I feel thatitfits
well withthe overall style of mydigipack,italsohighlightsthe stereotypical conventionsof the
pop/folkgenre.The backcoverof my digipackincludesthe full album tracklist,Ihave purposely
made up these kinds of namesastheyfitwell withmygenre andagainhighlightthe theme of love,
relationshipsandheartbreak.Ihave alsoincludedabarcode on the back cover,similartoother
mediaproduct,alongwiththe recordlabel logothatI created.
To create part of the backgroundfor the back of my CD digipackI tooka piece of
linedpaperandlaidoutflaton a table,I thentook a photographof thisand
uploaded ittothe computerbefore editingitontomydigipack.Ifeel thatthis
givesmyCD Digipacka nice effectandan interestingbackingformy track list.On
my albumposterIusedthe same image asI did on the cover of my CD Digipack.

3. I also includedalistof tourdates at the bottomof my posterfor promotion;I didthisto make the
posterlookmuchmore realistic.Ialsoincludedthe artist’swebsite whichisstereotypical of other
promotional musicposters.
To make my musicvideomuchmore interestingIdecidedtocreate a narrative thatpeople maybe
able to relate to.I have alsomade the story quite emotionalwhichwill hopefullymake audiences
much more drawnintomy musicvideoandbe intriguedtowatch it all the way through. I have
decidedtouse the same locationof the park throughoutmymusicvideoasI feel thatthe nature
adds tothe overall love themecreatedinthe narrative.
I have includedarange of differentshotsincludingclose ups,longshots,pointof view shotsand
establishingshotswhenshootingthe footage formyvideo.Ihave mostlyusedtheseshotsto
establishcharacterandlocation.Ihave alsousedmanyfadesthroughoutmyvideoasI feel thatit
adds tothe emotional atmosphere thatIamtryingto portray. The editingtechnique of afade also
representsthe passingof time whichisimportanttomyvideoasa vast majorityof itis inthe past.

4. I have also includedaslowmotioneffectonvariousshotsthroughout myvideotositwiththe slow
pace of the song and emotional lyrics.Ifeel thatwhenIcompare myancillariesandmymusicvideo
to one anothertheyclearlygotogetherwell andlooksuccessfulasa groupof work.The imagesthat
I have usedon myancillariesare connectverywell tomymusicvideoasI have shotmany of the
photographsinthe same locationas mymusicvideo.
