1. Primary research results
The purpose of my primary research was to find out who my target audience are. By asking
several different questions about genre and music videos I will find my target audience. The
method I used to find out my results was a primary research technique by asking a specific
amount of people which eventually produced valuable quantitative data.
From the results I gathered I will be targeting people between the ages of 15 and 25. The
reason for this is because people between these ages will be the majority of people who will
watch my video.
The results I retrieved tells me that Male is the majority of people who will be watching my
video however there is still a moderate amount of females who I ask. From these results my
video will have an alternate target audience so that it will target Females as well as Males.

2. The results I gathered tell me that Dance is the most popular genre. The results have influenced my
opinion on choosing to make a music video with a dance song as it a favourable choice therefore
more people will watch my video.
The most popular opinion was Narrative music video, from these results I will be making my music
video a Narrative video as it is very popular and is preferred by a wider audience.

3. Evidentially the most popular place to watch music videos is YouTube. I will upload my music video
to YouTube so that people can view and express their opinion.
The results I gathered have influenced my ideas massively for example my target audience will
people between the ages of 15-25 as this is the majority of people who I asked. There is a neutral
amount of males and females who I asked which means the music video will benefit both genders
making the target audience much wider. My music video will be under the genre of Dance due to the
majority of people listening to Dance music. This means I will encode (Hall) messages for example
alcohol, dancing, bright lights and so on which all connotes Dance music so that the audience can
decode the messages. My music video will be a performance based video as the majority of people
prefer performance based music videos, by doing this it creates a realistic view therefore when
applying uses and gratifications theory (Blunmler & Katz) my audience could be diverted and view
the video for its own escapism.
