1. Target Audience Questionnaire
As part of my audience research I created a questionnaire in which I would ask a small amount of questions to a group of people about their taste and preferences in terms of pop music and music videos.
The questions I issued below where:
Are you male or female?Do you like Pop music? What would you say is your favourite pop song? What do you believe a pop music video should include?Which music video of the genre Pop is your favourite?Who is your favourite Pop artist or Pop band?
I only chose to ask my target audience a small amount of questions as I found that not many people like long and boring questionnaires and it can affect their response.
I issued the questionnaire to 25 people. I felt this was an amount not too small and not big in order to collect some vital and useful information. I aimed for my audience to be between 15 and 25 years old.
The Results Are you male or female?
I issued the questionnaire to 15 girls and 10 boys. I wanted to hear feedback from both males and females however I had aimed my target audience for my video around females therefore I decided to issue them more questionnaires. I felt this would benefit me as they were the people who I was basing the contents of my music video on being targeted at.
Do you like Pop music?
The response I got to this question was 15 girls said yes, that being all of the females.
Where 3 boys said yes and 7 said no.
This made me realise that my video would be preferred by females than males. However with my audience being females this didn’t affect my aim and the result of all the females stating that they like Pop music, was a great thing to hear.
What would you say is your favourite pop song?
I collected a variety of results through this Question and made sure I listened to the songs in order to see what Pop songs people like listening to. This would help me to find a song like those enabling me to feel that they would like the song I chose, resulting in them wanting to watch my video.
What do you believe a pop music video should include?
Many people came back with the same responses here. Appearing a lot were ‘shots of the artist/band, many props, dance routines and different locations throughout’. As people were stating that this was what they like to see in music videos, I decided that I needed to focus on having those four main features embedded within my video.

Which music video of the genre ‘Pop’ is your favourite?
I collected a variety of results through this Question and I used these results when I carried out my research into the conventions of a Pop Video. I looked at the videos which the people had stated as their favourite.
My questionnaire wasn’t particularly detailed but did supply me with some vital information in order to help me to produce a conventional Pop music video which would appeal to my target audience.
The information I have collected will help me to plan what shall be included within my video. It has given a number of ideas and expanded my knowledge of how I can attract my aimed target audience. The purpose of a music video is to promote a song and encourage people to watch it and listen to the song; therefore this questionnaire has played a big part within the research stage of this piece of coursework. In order to appeal to your audience you have to find out what they like in order to satisfy them with your final product.
