1. Question 2 –
When I created my ancillary’s I knew exactly what colours and what designs I was
going to use. I researched many other Dance genre albums and they are all similar in
their own way. I used a dark grey and dark pink as a unique and distinctive colour. I
have also seen similar colours used on other dance genre albums. Our aim was to
produce a back cover a front cover and a CD which fits perfectly in the stereotype of
Dance genre. We wanted the audience to recognise this and instantly know it is a
Dance genre album.
All of the products I produced including my music video and ancillary have synergy
within them. Meaning they are all consistent and it is easy to recognise they all
related. The imagery as well as the font on each piece of ancillary I produced is very
similar making my project look very professional and also creates a consistent look. I
used the chosen fonts and colours to stand out and attract the audience. In my
poster I have use the Gutenberg design principle by placing text in the primary
optical are. The Gutenberg pattern suggests that the eye will sweep across and down
the page in a series of horizontal movements called axis of orientation. Each sweep
starts a little further from the left edge and moves a little closer to the right edge.
The overall movement is for the eye to travel from the primary area to the terminal
area and this path is referred to as reading gravity.
We used several camera shots especially medium shot as this captures most people
in the scene and what they are doing this also portrays the actors body language
throughout the shot. We used a point of view shot when one of the actors is drinking
a pint of beer. We used different camera shots to make the video more exciting it
also creates the effect that its chaos and makes it seem more of a mad night out. We
focused a lot on the mise en scene for example the club we filmed in with flashing
lights, females, dancing and alcohol. We focused on this area so the audience could
decode the conventions recognising it as a Dance genre.
