2. The first question shows us that my
target audience is mostly Female, thus
would make sense to cater to that
audience because they are 84% of my
potential target audience.
The second question shows us that a
majority of those questioned live in an
urban environment, being London. 11
out of the 13 responses being from
London, meaning that they are more
likely to respond better to an urban
setting than a rural one.
3. The most popular genres for those who answered the
questionnaire was: Hip Hop, RnB, and Pop. Due to this,
it would be seen as the most logical move to make a
music video in those genres due to them being most
popular with the potential target audience. However, if
I wanted to appeal to a niche audience I could make a
music video to a Dubstep, Reggae or Rock song as
those were not as popular, and thus would be niche.
4. A majority of those who answered the questionnaire had said
they enjoy music videos with a story-line but the second largest
group had said it mostly depends on the song, and if it matches
it, however would be opposed if it is lengthening the video such
as having acted out scenes before the music starts such as Drake
had done. In my music video it would be good to have a storyline
to appeal to the masses if it would work with the song.
5. A majority of those who answered my
questionnaire, liked music videos which had
coloured lighting, filters and slow motion in the
songs. If it’s applicable to the type of song and
the mood of it and image I'm attempting to
create, I should use these effects as they are most
popular.
6. A majority of the people who answered the questionnaire
had answered that they do enjoy watching music videos
which are in colour as opposed to black and white, however,
they do say that if it is done stylistically it is okay, or if it
matches the mood, otherwise they prefer colour so I should
make my one in colour unless the song I choose would be
better matched in black and white
7. Most of the people who responded to the
questionnaire answered that they found out
about their music through YouTube
recommendations and trending, and a lot of
them also said they found out about new
songs through social media such as Snapchat
and Instagram. They also reported that they
found out through friends,
being opinion leaders in the two-step flow theory, and online on music forums,
or through the use of the music app Shazam. They also reported to watching
music video channels, however a majority of them didn’t list music channels as
a source- YouTube being the most popular venue. If I was to promote my music
video it would be best to release it on YouTube or post about it on social media
such as Snapchat or Instagram, or having celebrities promote it as opinion
leaders.
8. A majority of the people who answered my
questionnaire said they preferred the
promotional posters for the song to be
similar to the music video, so I should make
sure that the promotional poster for my
music video is similar in style and/or look
to the music video (i.e. the music video
being in black and white but the poster in
colour is different so the poster should also
be in black and white)
9. The people who responded to my
questionnaire, said that they mostly listen
to, or stream, music on YouTube, Spotify, TV
and Soundcloud, and mostly watch music
videos on TV and YouTube. For my
promotional posters it might be best to link
to Soundcloud or to Spotify so the target
audience knows where to listen to the song
when not watching the video in order to
help promote the artist. The music video
would also benefit from being uploaded to
YouTube as a majority of people would find
it on there and use the social media for
viewing their music videos.
10. A majority of the people who filled out my
questionnaire said they do not buy music and
instead prefer to stream it, and those who
bought the music usually bought it from
Amazon, with iTunes, Bandcamp and stores
coming in joint second. The form that most
people bought their music in was mostly CD,
Cassette or Digital. To target as much people
as possible, it might be best to sell it as a CD,
but also make Digital and Cassette versions, in
order to capture the largest niche, adding
them to the overall audience to make up for
the amount that doesn’t purchase music,
which happens to be the majority, as they
prefer to stream their music.
