Lenzing Ag Case
Lenzing AG: Expanding in Indonesia
Case Review
Summary
Lenzing AG is one of the worlds largest rayon fiber manufacturers, originating in Lenzing, Austria.
In 1938 Lenzing AG was founded, starting pulp and viscose fiber production.
Up until the 1980's, Lenzing was a company that held its production and management in the same
country and town where the company had originated. Until one day , the Chairman of Lenzing had
agreed to go into a joint partnership with an international investor. The joint venture was with an
Indian entrepreneur by the name of Ashok Birla, who saw opportunity in Indonesia for Lenzing and
the rayon industry within. Lenzing viewed this as an opportunity to break out of their domestic
Austrian market, and tap ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a producer of rayon, Lenzing's most important fundamental constituent is dissolving grade pulp.
This is a rather uncommon form of pulp, in which they have been purchasing from Brazil to their
production plant in Indonesia. This would be viewed as a weakness, as in Indonesia there are 14
pulp producers, none with the technology to create the dissolving grade pulp, but pulp none the less.
I believe that Lenzing has an opportunity to create an agreement with one or more of these local
pulp producers, to enable them to produce the necessary grade of pulp.
As rayon requires a large amount of pulp for its production, they have purchased a percentage of a
company in Brazil to meet their pulp needs. For Lenzing, this was a valuable purchase and has made
it possible for them to continue the production of rayon in Indonesia. Although, I believe that there
is an opportunity locally that would satisfy their need for pulp. Indonesia has 14 producers of pulp,
none of them with the technology to create the required grade that is needed in the production of
rayon. Rather than purchasing a percentage of the pulp company in brazil, and having to ship the
pulp time after time internationally, it could have been a more economical transaction with the
Indonesian pulp companies. There could have been an opportunity to

The Global Apparel Supply Chain And Its Effects On...
The Global Apparel Supply Chain and Its Effects on Sustainability Jonathan Smith DSCI 304–02
Introduction The purpose of this paper is to analyze the supply chain of the global apparel industry,
including the materials sourced and global manufacturing. First, an overview of the apparel supply
chain will be explored, in order to identify the current trends in materials used as well as the
purchasing process for fabrics and distribution to retailers. These trends will then be analyzed in
order to determine the possible effects that the apparel supply chain may have on global
sustainability. This research is conducted based on the assumption that clothing companies develop
supply chain processes in order to be the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Imports are goods that are brought in from a foreign country to sell here. The people or firms import
goods are usually manufacturers that produce apparel in another country, and wholesalers and
retailers acting as importers. Retailers want to give their customers the best quality products at the
lowest prices. Therefore, ever–increasing amounts of textiles, apparel, and accessories are being
imported into the United States and the European Union (EU) because of the availability of cheaper
labor in low–wage countries. American and European manufacturers compete with labor rates of 69
cents per hour in parts of China and 60 cents or less in India. Traditionally, imports were fashion
merchandise designed and produced by foreign designers and manufacturers and purchased by
domestic retailers at international markets. The United States has long imported fashion from Paris,
woolens in the British Isles, sweaters from Scandinavia, and leather goods from Italy. Currently, the
European Economic Community, followed by the United States, is the largest importer of consumer
apparel in the world. Manufacturers source the best fabrics available at low cost to make into
garments. U.S. textile and apparel imports increased from $10 billion in 1982 to $96 billion in 2006.
This corresponds to the enormous growth of the textile industries of China, Korea, Taiwan, and
India. One reason for this is that U.S. manufacturers contracting production overseas tend to use
fabrics from

Creative Writing: Christopher Columbus
I look in my drawer and I find a picture dated June 10, 1976. I'm sitting on a bench in front of a
fountain in The Plaza of Colon (Columbus) in Puerto Rico; I'm just turn 16 and next to me was my
best friend Lucy and she's 17. It's a Saturday afternoon. It's the only day we will go downtown. It
must be a sunny day our eyes are kind of closed. Behind this fountain they are a few small trees in
each corner and no flowers. A few doves flying close to the trees and a few others were eating from
the floor. The statue of Christopher Columbus is inside the fountain facing west and his index finger
is pointing to the sky. We are sitting close to the fountain. The water is spraying our backs and we
are getting wet. We are smiling, we were having fun.

Stigma In Dallas Buyers Club
Erving Goffman maintained that negative labels are often stigmatizing. He believed that stigmas
result in a "spoiled identity." Goffman coined the term stigma to describe the labels society uses to
devalue members of certain social groups (pg. 107). He identified three categories or types of
stigmas: abominations of the body, blemishes of individual character, and tribal. When a person
became aware of a certain stigma they had been labeled to, Goffman noted three ways to manage it:
hide the stigma, distance themselves from the stigma or try to correct it, and embrace or accept the
stigma. The movie Dallas Buyers Club offers a chance to see several stigmas brought to light, and
the way that each was handled. For instance there are examples of HIV/AIDS, homosexuality,
feminism, and criminal activity that are prevalent and shape the way the movie is organized. Dallas
Buyers Club is based on a true story of Ron Woodruff, a Texan redneck, who is outspokenly
homophobic, works as an electrician, and lives in a small unit in a trailer park. Ron first appears at
the Rodeo, where riding and gambling seem to be his favorite pastimes along with promiscuous sex,
consuming copious amounts of alcohol and snorting cocaine. One day at work, he suffers a
substantial injury that mandates his blood be drawn. He is diagnosed with HIV (and later contracts
AIDS), sending his life into a downward spiral of isolation and dilemma. The doctors inform Ron
that not only is he HIV positive, he

Pros And Cons Of Hernan Cortes
Hernan Cortes' conquest of the Aztec Empire gave birth to three hundred years of Spanish rule in
Mexico. Miguel Hidalgo, a Catholic priest, and leader of the independence movement united:
indigenous peasants, poor creoles, nobility in Spanish America and the Catholic church within the
colony to depose Spaniard royalist power which Cortes had given birth to (Mckay 684). This
unlikely alliance stemmed from the widespread discontent of Spaniard viceroy assumption of
control of the government of New Spain from its capital in Mexico City after Napoleon's coup in
1808 (Mckay 684). The signing of Iturbide's Plan of Iguala ended eleven years of struggle for
independence, and the end of Spaniard control. This plan not only established Mexico as a
constitutional monarchy but as well solidified the cultural transition from the polytheism of the
Aztec Empire to the strong monotheism of the newly emerging Catholic Church. Because "the
colonial system depended on the loyalty of the clergy: the priests controlled the people," this
allowed the Catholic Church's influence to grow within the colony (Lynch 109). The separation of
the Catholic Church from the Spanish crown played a vital role in the attainment of independence.
Considering the separation of the Catholic Church from the Spanish crown and how the Plan de
Iguala concluded the Mexican War of independence, I intend to explore: How the Catholic Church
changed the Mexican War of Independence? Both John Lynch in his book New Worlds

Natural and Synthetic Materials
Textiles are made up from natural or man–made fibres or a combination of both. "Fibres are thin,
hair–like structures" (Blair, n.d: online) that are categorized into two types: long filament fibres and
short staple fibres. Natural fibres are usually staple, whilst man–made fibres are filament, with the
exception of silk that comes from a natural source. These raw fibres are spun to produce a long,
continuous thread referred to as yarn, which is then used in a series of methods that include,
stitching, knitting and weaving in order to produce a fabric. The content, construction and finish of a
fabric can determine it's aesthetic and functional qualities. This essay will explore the classifications
and characteristics of fibres, yarns and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Its desirability and expensive price has prompted cheaper man–made imitations. (Udale, 2008)
(IYNF, 2009)
"Man–made fibres account for 68% of fibres used worldwide" (CRFS, 2010: online). In the textile
industry, man–made fibres are categorized into two main types: cellulosic polymers and non–
cellulosic polymers. Cellulosic polymers are derived from the cellulose extracted from natural
sources, such as plants and trees. The cellulose is then chemically treated to produce fibres such as
rayon, acetate and triacetate. Non–cellulosic polymers are those that are produced synthetically from
different chemical compounds in order to produce fibres such as nylon, polyester and acrylic.
(Udale, 2008)
Often referred to as artificial silk because of its silk–like aesthetic, rayon was one of the first man–
made fabrics to be developed having been in production since 1885 (Udale, 2008). Constructed from
the cellulose of wood pulp, it was made to "simulate natural fibres as well as to provide
characteristics of its own" (Corbman, 1983: p.9). Like cotton, it is soft, comfortable and versatile; it
blends well with other fibres, and is often used for evening gowns as an alternative to silk because
of its good drape. It is also a highly absorbent material that can be dyed easily. The durability of
rayon is fairly low, it is easily damaged through abrasion and can shrink when washed, prompting
dry clean aftercare instructions. (Swicol, 2010).

Economic Consequences Of The Roaring 1920's
After World War One the people of America enjoyed great economic times. The city folk enjoyed
many liberties that after the war had to offer. The farmers and country folk were the ones that

Disadvantages Of Tapons
1. Issue description:
Hint: Be specific in your description, of what your activity is specifically, what is its frequency, etc.
and why it is not sustainable.
My Sustainability Assessment will address the unsustainable effects of Tampons ecologically and
socially. Tampons are greatly used among women, as they approximately use 9,300 tampons in their
lifetime. It is also very convenient and compact as it can be seen on every store shelf. However,
there are many disadvantages in its use.
Every woman has their period every month. Hence, the tampons are greatly needed. With this need
is a health risk that can affect women in the future, such as dioxin residue, and chemicals in
fragrances that are found within the tampon itself. In these chemicals lies a more dangerous risk,
which is Toxic Shock Syndrome, pelvic inflammation to name a few. Thus, a woman's need can also
be the one that can put her in danger. Tampons, as small as it can seem, can also harm the
environment. The production of cotton uses pesticides that can be carcinogenic and can leave traces
in tampons. The plastic applicator found in tampons can harm marine ecosystem and can take years
to degrade. The tampon, itself, that are found in landfills can't also degrade and can cause carbon
emissions.
On the other hand, Tampons are controlled and manufactured by well–known companies such as
Procter & Gamble, and Johnson & Johnson, which makes it economically stable. Feminine
products, such as tampons, can increase up to the US $35.4 Billion in global sales. With this power,
they can deceive the customers into thinking that their product is safe when it is not.
2. Desired outcomes: Briefly explain each of the following outcomes:
(a) My issue is/is not ecologically sound because...
Tampons have always been in the garbage every month, as every woman uses it. Its waste can
amount to 62, 415lbs. This garbage, without proper disposal, can end in landfills, which can take up
more than a year to degrade. A tampon has super absorbent, dense fibers that are petroleum–based,
which takes up a slower process to degrade in areas that are at a colder temperature. Moreover, its
plastic applicators can also be a cause in harming the marine ecosystem. Some of the

5. What is crimp? How does it affect the properties of a textile? Crimp is the bends and twists along
the length of a fiber.
It increases resiliency, bulk, warmth, elongation, absorbency, and skin comfort. Makes the hand
harsher and luster is reduced as crimp increase. Allows the fiber to stand off the skin so fabric will
not cling to the wearer 's skin. Also helps make the fiber able to withstand being bent back on itself
many times without breaking.
6. How does fiber absorbency affect the properties of a textile? Absorbency affects: skin comfort,
static build–up, dimensional stability in water, stain removal, water repellency, and wrinkle
recovery.
7. What is pilling? Why is it more apparent on some fibers than on others? Pilling is the formation
of groups of short or broken fibers on the surface of a fabric that are tangled together into tiny balls
(pills).
More apparent on hydrophobic fibers because their fibers have greater electrical static attraction for
each other ran do not fall off the fabric surface. Wool also pills because it has a scaly surface. 8.
Which fiber would be more suitable for athletic wear–one that wicks or one that absorbs moisture?
Why? Wicking fibers are more suitable for athletic wear because

Corner Detection Are Useful for Computer Vision...
Corner detection and its parameters: position, model and orientation are useful for many computer
vision applications, such as object recognition, matching, segmentation, 3D reconstruction, motion
estimation [2, 3, 4, 34.] indexing, retrieval, robot navigation and in our case edge tracking from
geometry design. This need has driven the development of a large number of corner detectors [1, 5,
6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13.]. Other methods for corner detection are described in [14, 15]. These
detectors compete with each other in terms of precision localization, accuracy, speed, and
information they provide. Model classification and orientation are the most interest information
needed in process of edge tracking.
For some of these approaches, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Corner strength has been first defined by Noble [12] from which a slightly different version has been
proposed by Harris and Stephen [11]: (1.2)
The role of the parameter k is to remove sensitivity to strong edges.
The Plessey operator uses estimates of the variance of the gradient of an image in a set of
overlapping neighborhoods. This detector, which produced much interest, was extended by
including local gray–level invariants based on combinations of Gaussian derivatives [17].
One of the earliest detectors [16], which was based on the Moravec operator, defines corners to be
local extrema in the determinant of the Hessian Matix, H=M.
The Kitchen and Rosenfeld operator [5] uses an analysis of the curvature of the grey–level variety of
an image. The SUSAN operator [18] uses a form of grey–level moment that is designed to detect V–
corners, and which is applied to other model of corner.
The earlier Forstner [22] algorithm is easily explained in terms of H (Hessian Matrix). For a more
recently proposed detector [20], it has been shown [21] that under affine motion, it is better to use
the smallest eigenvalue of H as the corner strength function.
Recently, George Azzopardi and Nicolai Petkov [36] propose a trainable filter which we call
Combination Of Shifted FIlter REsponses (COSFIRE) and use for keypoint detection and pattern
recognition.

Entertainment In The 1940s
The 1940's Entertainment The entertainment of the 1940s consisted of Hollywood, radio
personalities and the musicians, all in the benefit of the country in the war. By the 1940s radio had
become a mass medium, meaning that the radio was a device that had a mass audience. Movies
Around this time another popular form of entertainment was movies. The movies were visited by
about ninety million Americans per weekend during the 40s .These movies also showed many war
influenced programing. An example would be the "Doolittle Raid", this movie celebrated one of the
first American war victories. Another example of the influenced of the war was that most popular
movies and cartoons spotted war themes. Music Another thing was the music of the 1940s, the
1940s was the decade of "the crooner" as the other form of entertainment the musical entertainment

you were a woman with 2 daughters you could only buy each a coat and have 4 coupons left. One of
the issues with this was that even though you got coupons they would only work if you had the

Dallas Buyers Club Character Analysis
Leadership Journal #2 In class over the past two weeks we have explored how VIA character

moral courage, people posses the capacity to create change. I believe by taking the VIA character
strengths test, people are able to realize their strengths, promoting resiliency and the ability of

able to contribute and help in an area they thrive in such as organization. Whereas if they are less
skilled in another area, they can pull back and be helped by other people with that speciality. The
VIA character strengths, in my opinion, also helps people recognize everyone has strengths and
weaknesses. One person I look up to is my twin brother Charlie. I admire his outgoing personality

Movie Analysis : Dallas Buyers Club Directed By Jean Marc...
MAJOR WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT: TOPIC TWO ESSAY
WORD COUNT: 1893
In film, drama is the most diverse of genres with many subcategories such as crime drama, comedy
drama, romantic drama, historical drama etc. Dallas Buyers Club directed by Jean–Marc Vallee and
The Imitation Game by Morten Tyldum both take on the role of producing historical and
biographical dramas. These can be categorized as both films are set in the past to tell a story and
through the perspective a certain important person and time in history. The purpose of a drama film
is to touch on realism of a central protagonist and the people that he/she interacts with, to touch on
social issues mostly and go in depth indirectly through a character's encounter with the issue(s). The
genre most commonly is known for relying on emotional techniques that cause sympathy for
characters to drive the film to be put into the typical convention of drama. Also, the films focus on
building up characters that the audience can relate and engage with, and social interaction between
the characters.
When a person thinks of the genre of drama, the first thing that may be recognized and associated is
that the film type strongly relies on emotional techniques. Especially examples that the audience can
relate and engage with. Ron from Dallas Buyers Club 's emotionless first introduction to the
audience makes his small acts of humanity resonate stronger with the viewers. Similarly this occurs

become successful by keeping their old ways, or staying to the "tried and true" (Foster, 1986). No
successful business can stay successful regardless of how much money or technology they have, if
they do not know how to keep evolving with time. Success isn't built off one tool; it is built off a
variety of tools. This book taught me that one must constantly adapt to the world around you,
because it won't slow down. We live in an ever–changing world. One must be willing and able to
change. This book teaches how to be "unsafe" in the world of business, never stick with one way,
never rely on one source of success; be ready to change it and find ... Show more content on

Foster talks about these mistakes in detail, which I will try to summarize in the next few paragraphs.
The first mistake companies make is assuming there is no reason to upgrade, if it ain't broke, don't
fix it. The second mistake companies make is that they think they will have ample warning about a
discontinuity, this is not always true. The book gives a good example, if one can tell one has a fever
by placing one's hand on ones head then one should have been in bed days ago. The third mistake is
one should not base all his new ideas on trying to predict what the consumer will want. Consumers
don't always know what they want until they are showed. Customers did not always want disposable
paper diapers until P&G convinced them they were just as good, if not better. Lastly, know
onescompetitors. It is easier to defend an attack when one has paid attention to the potential threats.
Most companies don't realize who their actual competitors are until it's too late, and usually it's the
smaller companies they over–looked. Foster states usually 7 out of 10 attacks are successful;
therefore 3 attacks may be unsuccessful. What did those defenders do?
Foster states that there are three ways a defender can strike back. First is "leapfrogging", instead of
creating new technology that might be costly, inefficient or inferior technology. They wait for
companies to do this for them then they leapfrog ahead.

Women's Fashion During The Great Depression
Fashion during the Great depression was very different from before because poor people struggled
and used cheap resources as clothing, men's fashion was pointed towards the job they worked, and
women's fashion was practical, yet simple. Poor families had to use their resources to make
necessities for them to live, like clothes. Clothing in poor families were usually made from flour
sacks. Women during the Depression had an elegant style, yet made cheaper and more practical for
the work they do to survive. Men always looked sharp, but their pieces were usually made of
cheaper fabrics to save money because of the depressing loses during the difficult times. There were
many styles for different families, working women, and men with specific needs ... Show more

Men went overseas and women worked more during WWII after the Depression (Eberhardt).
Clothes for men was a lot more fashionable than it was in the 20's, unlike women (Tucker).
Although, the colors were like the women's because they were still dark and plain (Sessions). Men
were said to be 'overdressed' for all occasions in this decade (Tucker). It was popular for men too to
have very athletic build and looked good in a v–neck coat with very broad shoulders. Men wore
plain white button downs for a regular, everyday outfit, or also for under a suit because men sweat a
lot at work (Tucker). Younger men usually wore sweaters to make their own fashion statement.
Everything a man wore was usually worn with tall, high waisted pants. They were easy and looked
good with just about any outfit. They usually cuffed the bottom of their pants if they wanted to go
for a more casual look. Another fashion statement for a guy was to wear a fedora almost
everywhere. Gangsters wore suits with a monogrammed shirt, and always a fedora. Men just picked
up on that style for everyday. Shoes for men were very simple. They were always nice looking with
a toe cap and looked similar to bowling shoes. They always wore bright socks to make a statement
since their outfits and shoes were very plain. For men in the evening,

Relationship Between Audiences And Films
Unit 24 Assignment 4
Audiences and Films
The BBFC has commissioned me to undertake research as part of a project to ascertain to what
degree films can be regarded as powerful within contemporary society. In this assignment, I will
comprehensively explain the relationship between audiences and films with well explained
examples. I refer to the different sectors relating to the topic that include the following:
a) active and passive audience models
b) the preferred readings theory
c) reception theory and viewing contexts
d) your own research into the relationship between audiences and films
Active and Passive Audiences
An active audience is the opposite. An active audience can interact with the programme and tell
them their views, and what they would like to see. They can influence the outcome of the whole
show.
A passive audience is an audience that has no influence over the outcome of the programme. They
cannot change it in any way and it is up to the writers to decide what happens and when.
Hypodermic Needle Model
The Hypodermic Needle Theory is one of the oldest in the field of media studies. Also known as the
Magic Bullet Theory, it states that media has a direct, complete and immediate effect on the
audience. The message for the media is directly received and wholly accepted by the user. The
audience is considered to completely passive entities that are left at the mercy of the media. Media is
considered to be super strong with the potential of mesmerizing its

The Textile Industry : The World 's Economy And Daily...
The textile industry is a major entity in the world's economy and daily lifestyle. Textiles are used in
order to accentuate and warm the body. Heavier and more durable textiles are developed for the
decoration and protection of furniture. There are approximately 7 billion people living in the world
and all of them own at least one textile, whether it be a clothing item or a burlap sack. For thousands
of years humanity has used textiles for practical and decorative uses. Inhabitants of northwestern
India perfected the small–scale production of cotton fabrics; and indigenous Chinese people used
silkworm rearing in order to create elegant silk outfits. During the early development of textile
production, outfits and other merchandise were produced on a small–scale. Many individuals
created goods in their homes, and this took a while to complete due to the amount of detailing
needed for the products. This increased clothing prices and quality. After the industrial revolution,
fabric production was moved from homes to factories; and clothing became cheaper in both price
and quality. Apparel factories were one of the few jobs that women were allowed to have during the
Victorian era. Due to the lack of jobs and desire for a better life, female employees were subjected to
many types of abuse. The rapid increase of population and production negatively impacted the
natural environment, due to unplanned development of urban areas and unregulated production
standards. Fashion and

Case summary:
MRC, Inc. is a Cleveland based manufacturing company specialized in power brake systems for
trucks, buses, and automobiles; industrial furnaces and heat treating equipment; and automobile,
truck and bus frames. As till 1957 most of MRC's sales were made to less than a dozen large
companies in the automotive industry, it was exposed to the risk inherent in selling to a few
customers in a very cyclical and competitive market. To minimize the risk and to explore new
business opportunity MRC's management decided to diversify their business operation. After their

Q3. Should MRC acquire ARI at the price now available? In answering this question, consider (at
least) the following two alternatives frameworks:
Valuation based on projected cash flows, using a discount rate of 15%;
A situation where MRC must liquidate ARI immediately.
Ans. We know, business valuation is a process and a set of procedures used to estimate the economic
value of an owner's interest in a business. Valuation is usually used by financial market participants
to determine the price they are willing to pay or receive to acquire a business. In addition to
estimating the selling price of a business, the same valuation tools are often used by business
appraisers to resolve disputes related to estate and gift taxation, divorce litigation, allocate business
purchase price among business assets, establish a formula for estimating the value of partners'
ownership interest for buy–sell agreements, and many other business and legal purposes.
One of the most common used methods of valuation of a business is "Discounted Cash Flow
method". This method estimates the value of an asset based on its expected future cash flows, which
are discounted to the present (i.e., the present value). This concept of discounting future money is
commonly known as the time value of money. For instance, an asset that matures and pays $1 in

Difference Between Slavs And Italian Immigrants
Slavs and Italians, being the most predominant immigrants during the late 1800's, faced a series of
appalling living conditions. For instance, Slavs who formed families and lived in the company built
homes were most of the time in need and cultivated flora in order to survive on the very low wages
paid by companies. Woman as a part of the family had to also contribute economically, this included
taking jobs at textile mills and taking care of the gardens at home. Protein supply for these
immigrants was small. Immigrants worked 10–12 hours a day, they relied on a diet with high levels
of carbohydrates and starch, which provide them with temporal energy and fulfillment. Italians, as
said in text "had it worse", instead of living in company–owned

Taking a Look at Polyester Fiber
2.2 Polyester Fiber
2.2.1 Background and General Properties of Polyester Fiber
Polyesters are those fibers containing at least 85% of a polymeric ester of a substituted aromatic
carboxylic acid including but not restricted to terephthalic acid and f–hydroxybenzoic acid. The
major polyester in the market is polyethylene terephthalate (PET), an ester formed by step growth
polymerization of terephthalic acid and the diol ethylene glycol. The polyester fibers all have similar
properties, are highly resilient and resistant to wrinkling, possess high durabilily and dimensional
stability, and are resistant to chemical and environmental attack(Needles, 1986). In 1996, 24.1
million metric tons of manmade fibres were produced globally. The main volume gain took place in
production of PET fibres (PET filament 9%, PET staple 4%) (Froehlich, 1997). Dramatic growth in
PET fibre production is foreseen in Asia in the near future (Harris, 1996). The cost of polyester, with
the combination of its superior strength and resilience, is lower than that of rayon. Polyester fibres
are hydrophobic which is suitable for lightweight facing fabrics used in disposable industry
providing a perceptible dry feel on the facing, even when the inner absorbent media is fully
saturated. As the new methods of PET processing and bonding of are developed, rayon is replaced
by polyester on the market. 49% of the total nonwovens market share in USA belongs to polyester
staple, reaching up to 291 million pounds in

11,000and 16,000 tampons in her lifetime"(Kounang). Nearly every person born as a biological
female experiences menstruation, more commonly referred to as a period, for one week out of the
month, with the typical period lasting 7 days and recurring after 28 days. The aforementioned
tampons and sanitary pads are the most common devices to combat periods, but there is a general
lack of regulation surrounding these products. To make women aware of the products that are an
integral part of their daily lives, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) should require companies
to list all ingredients in feminine hygiene products, and the FDA should put warnings on products ...

This is the presence of toxic dioxins and additives such as fragrances and gels. The toxic dioxins are
caused by accidental contaminants such as pesticide residue in cotton and toxic by products created
in the manufacturing process (Rabin). Because the potential of pesticides and contaminants are not
listed or even made known to consumers, they are unknowingly exposing themselves to chemicals
that could prove fatal in the right circumstances. The levels of these dioxins are trace, "but consider
the menstrual lifetime of a woman. They use approximately 12,000 tampons in a lifetime. That
means 12,000 exposures of dioxin ... five, six, seven times a day. That's a lot of dioxin absorbed
directly through the vagina. It goes directly into the blood. Vaginal tissue isn't like other skin. It's
covered in mucous membranes, it's very permeable. It's a direct route to your reproductive organs"
(Kuonang). The FDA claims that the levels of dioxins in tampons is perfectly safe, but as Kuonang
points out, for the majority of a woman's lifetime she is directly exposed to potentially toxic
materials. Some studies have found that these chemicals and cotton bleaching techniques have been
linked to endometriosis and even infertility, further raising risks that are majorly unknown (Rabin).

Vaping Vs Smoking Research Paper
In 2016 there were more than 480,000 deaths annually from smoking according to the CDC. With
that in mind, is vaping a good and safer alternative to smoking? Vapor products are noncombustible
electronic devices that contain no tobacco and do not emit smoke. Vaping devices create vapor by
heating a coil or wire that is wrapped around a cotton or rayon wick, this, in turn, vaporizes the
liquid which in then inhaled giving the effect and feeling of inhaling smoke from a cigarette.
Smoking delivers nicotine to the user's body via combustion and smoke inhalation. The combustion
is what makes smoking so bad for you. When the tobacco is burned, it releases thousands of toxic
chemicals into your body. Vaping allows users to choose different flavors

Office Apparel Research Paper
The combination of Women's fashion and proper office apparel offers a unique challenge to any
fashion designer; and the fashion trend for Spring 2009 is no exception. For Spring 2009 the fashion
industry offers fabrics that are sheer, soft and flowing and full of color. Platform heels are back as
well as cardigans. If you are looking to build your office wardrobe, here are five of the hottest trends
for Spring 2009's appropriate office apparel. And the nice thing is, they can be bought at Walmart, or
any other store of your choice. 1. Use a scarf – Since sheer is in, for Spring 2009, and you of course

If you do much walking around in your office, or a lot of standing, you might be more comfortable
in flat Mary Jane's. These shoes are quite stylish, and very feminine. 3. Handbag/purse – A lady's
handbag or purse should be of the same color and texture as her shoes. It adds a touch of
professionalism, and a sense of being well–put together when shoes and purse or handbag match. 4.
Cardigans – Spring 2009 has cardigans back with a vengeance, and this year they have ¾ sleeves.
They are accented with large buttons. They can be worn buttoned up (not the top button) as a top, or
they can be worn opened, with a matching camisole, depending on your attire for the day. 5. Pants –
Fabric choices for Spring 2009 are soft and flowing, and that goes for slacks as well. A nice cotton–
blend is a good choice, and will be comfortable when the days get warmer. If your boss or
supervisor doesn't mind, cropped pants are very stylish this spring, and look very nice and
professional. I have listed here a couple of websites that I have found to be very helpful in helping
women put these fabrics and accessories together, and making a nice office appropriate attire.

Organic Dyes Lab Report
The purpose of this experiment was to synthesize two organic dyes then observe their effective dye
strength on various synthetic and natural materials. This was achieved by means of chemical
reactions outlined below, heat to increase the reaction rate, ice baths to precipitate out the product,
vacuum filtration to isolate the product, washing with water and 95% ethanol to purify the product,
and dying of the clothe to observe dye effectiveness. The test of the effectiveness of the dye required
that the fabric absorb one wavelength and then reflect the opposing color, and then be able to keep

Rayon's Attack: Denise Darbeau And Rachel Edwards
In this argument paper I will be examining whether or not Rayon McIntosh was unethical in his
defense against an attack from Denise Darbeau and Rachel Edwards at his place of employment
McDonalds. At what point do you go from defending yourself to being the attacker. That is the
question in the case of Rayon's situation. On October 13th, 2011, Denise Darbeau and Rachel
Edwards entered a McDonald's restaurant at West 4th Street in Greenwich Village, New York City,
New York. Both women were intoxicated when they entered this McDonald's to presumably order
food. Upon arriving at the cash register to pay for their food, they produce a fifty dollar bill to pay
for their food. Any responsible cashier would check the authenticity of the fifty dollars. This cashier
would be Rayon McIntosh, a recently released convict who served ten years in prison for
manslaughter in 2000. As Rayon McIntosh proceeded to check the money, Denise and Rachel
became angry and began verbally attacking and threatening Rayon's life. It was then that one of the
women spat on Rayon and slapped him, Denise then jumps over the counter to confront Rayon as
Rachel walks around to the back. Rayon goes to grab something to defend ... Show more content on

Lenzing AG Case: Expanding Production in Indonesia

  • 1. Lenzing Ag Case Lenzing AG: Expanding in Indonesia Case Review Summary Lenzing AG is one of the worlds largest rayon fiber manufacturers, originating in Lenzing, Austria. In 1938 Lenzing AG was founded, starting pulp and viscose fiber production. Up until the 1980's, Lenzing was a company that held its production and management in the same country and town where the company had originated. Until one day , the Chairman of Lenzing had agreed to go into a joint partnership with an international investor. The joint venture was with an Indian entrepreneur by the name of Ashok Birla, who saw opportunity in Indonesia for Lenzing and the rayon industry within. Lenzing viewed this as an opportunity to break out of their domestic Austrian market, and tap ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a producer of rayon, Lenzing's most important fundamental constituent is dissolving grade pulp. This is a rather uncommon form of pulp, in which they have been purchasing from Brazil to their production plant in Indonesia. This would be viewed as a weakness, as in Indonesia there are 14 pulp producers, none with the technology to create the dissolving grade pulp, but pulp none the less. I believe that Lenzing has an opportunity to create an agreement with one or more of these local pulp producers, to enable them to produce the necessary grade of pulp. As rayon requires a large amount of pulp for its production, they have purchased a percentage of a company in Brazil to meet their pulp needs. For Lenzing, this was a valuable purchase and has made it possible for them to continue the production of rayon in Indonesia. Although, I believe that there is an opportunity locally that would satisfy their need for pulp. Indonesia has 14 producers of pulp, none of them with the technology to create the required grade that is needed in the production of rayon. Rather than purchasing a percentage of the pulp company in brazil, and having to ship the pulp time after time internationally, it could have been a more economical transaction with the Indonesian pulp companies. There could have been an opportunity to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Global Apparel Supply Chain And Its Effects On... The Global Apparel Supply Chain and Its Effects on Sustainability Jonathan Smith DSCI 304–02 Introduction The purpose of this paper is to analyze the supply chain of the global apparel industry, including the materials sourced and global manufacturing. First, an overview of the apparel supply chain will be explored, in order to identify the current trends in materials used as well as the purchasing process for fabrics and distribution to retailers. These trends will then be analyzed in order to determine the possible effects that the apparel supply chain may have on global sustainability. This research is conducted based on the assumption that clothing companies develop supply chain processes in order to be the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Imports are goods that are brought in from a foreign country to sell here. The people or firms import goods are usually manufacturers that produce apparel in another country, and wholesalers and retailers acting as importers. Retailers want to give their customers the best quality products at the lowest prices. Therefore, ever–increasing amounts of textiles, apparel, and accessories are being imported into the United States and the European Union (EU) because of the availability of cheaper labor in low–wage countries. American and European manufacturers compete with labor rates of 69 cents per hour in parts of China and 60 cents or less in India. Traditionally, imports were fashion merchandise designed and produced by foreign designers and manufacturers and purchased by domestic retailers at international markets. The United States has long imported fashion from Paris, woolens in the British Isles, sweaters from Scandinavia, and leather goods from Italy. Currently, the European Economic Community, followed by the United States, is the largest importer of consumer apparel in the world. Manufacturers source the best fabrics available at low cost to make into garments. U.S. textile and apparel imports increased from $10 billion in 1982 to $96 billion in 2006. This corresponds to the enormous growth of the textile industries of China, Korea, Taiwan, and India. One reason for this is that U.S. manufacturers contracting production overseas tend to use fabrics from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I'm sitting on a bench in front of a fountain in The Plaza of Colon (Columbus) in Puerto Rico; I'm just turn 16 and next to me was my best friend Lucy and she's 17. It's a Saturday afternoon. It's the only day we will go downtown. It must be a sunny day our eyes are kind of closed. Behind this fountain they are a few small trees in each corner and no flowers. A few doves flying close to the trees and a few others were eating from the floor. The statue of Christopher Columbus is inside the fountain facing west and his index finger is pointing to the sky. We are sitting close to the fountain. The water is spraying our backs and we are getting wet. We are smiling, we were having fun. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Stigma In Dallas Buyers Club Erving Goffman maintained that negative labels are often stigmatizing. He believed that stigmas result in a "spoiled identity." Goffman coined the term stigma to describe the labels society uses to devalue members of certain social groups (pg. 107). He identified three categories or types of stigmas: abominations of the body, blemishes of individual character, and tribal. When a person became aware of a certain stigma they had been labeled to, Goffman noted three ways to manage it: hide the stigma, distance themselves from the stigma or try to correct it, and embrace or accept the stigma. The movie Dallas Buyers Club offers a chance to see several stigmas brought to light, and the way that each was handled. For instance there are examples of HIV/AIDS, homosexuality, feminism, and criminal activity that are prevalent and shape the way the movie is organized. Dallas Buyers Club is based on a true story of Ron Woodruff, a Texan redneck, who is outspokenly homophobic, works as an electrician, and lives in a small unit in a trailer park. Ron first appears at the Rodeo, where riding and gambling seem to be his favorite pastimes along with promiscuous sex, consuming copious amounts of alcohol and snorting cocaine. One day at work, he suffers a substantial injury that mandates his blood be drawn. He is diagnosed with HIV (and later contracts AIDS), sending his life into a downward spiral of isolation and dilemma. The doctors inform Ron that not only is he HIV positive, he ... • 11. Pros And Cons Of Hernan Cortes Hernan Cortes' conquest of the Aztec Empire gave birth to three hundred years of Spanish rule in Mexico. Miguel Hidalgo, a Catholic priest, and leader of the independence movement united: indigenous peasants, poor creoles, nobility in Spanish America and the Catholic church within the colony to depose Spaniard royalist power which Cortes had given birth to (Mckay 684). This unlikely alliance stemmed from the widespread discontent of Spaniard viceroy assumption of control of the government of New Spain from its capital in Mexico City after Napoleon's coup in 1808 (Mckay 684). The signing of Iturbide's Plan of Iguala ended eleven years of struggle for independence, and the end of Spaniard control. This plan not only established Mexico as a constitutional monarchy but as well solidified the cultural transition from the polytheism of the Aztec Empire to the strong monotheism of the newly emerging Catholic Church. Because "the colonial system depended on the loyalty of the clergy: the priests controlled the people," this allowed the Catholic Church's influence to grow within the colony (Lynch 109). The separation of the Catholic Church from the Spanish crown played a vital role in the attainment of independence. Considering the separation of the Catholic Church from the Spanish crown and how the Plan de Iguala concluded the Mexican War of independence, I intend to explore: How the Catholic Church changed the Mexican War of Independence? Both John Lynch in his book New Worlds ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Natural and Synthetic Materials Textiles are made up from natural or man–made fibres or a combination of both. "Fibres are thin, hair–like structures" (Blair, n.d: online) that are categorized into two types: long filament fibres and short staple fibres. Natural fibres are usually staple, whilst man–made fibres are filament, with the exception of silk that comes from a natural source. These raw fibres are spun to produce a long, continuous thread referred to as yarn, which is then used in a series of methods that include, stitching, knitting and weaving in order to produce a fabric. The content, construction and finish of a fabric can determine it's aesthetic and functional qualities. This essay will explore the classifications and characteristics of fibres, yarns and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Its desirability and expensive price has prompted cheaper man–made imitations. (Udale, 2008) (IYNF, 2009) "Man–made fibres account for 68% of fibres used worldwide" (CRFS, 2010: online). In the textile industry, man–made fibres are categorized into two main types: cellulosic polymers and non– cellulosic polymers. Cellulosic polymers are derived from the cellulose extracted from natural sources, such as plants and trees. The cellulose is then chemically treated to produce fibres such as rayon, acetate and triacetate. Non–cellulosic polymers are those that are produced synthetically from different chemical compounds in order to produce fibres such as nylon, polyester and acrylic. (Udale, 2008) Often referred to as artificial silk because of its silk–like aesthetic, rayon was one of the first man– made fabrics to be developed having been in production since 1885 (Udale, 2008). Constructed from the cellulose of wood pulp, it was made to "simulate natural fibres as well as to provide characteristics of its own" (Corbman, 1983: p.9). Like cotton, it is soft, comfortable and versatile; it blends well with other fibres, and is often used for evening gowns as an alternative to silk because of its good drape. It is also a highly absorbent material that can be dyed easily. The durability of rayon is fairly low, it is easily damaged through abrasion and can shrink when washed, prompting dry clean aftercare instructions. (Swicol, 2010). Acetate is silk–like ... • 19. Disadvantages Of Tapons 1. Issue description: Hint: Be specific in your description, of what your activity is specifically, what is its frequency, etc. and why it is not sustainable. My Sustainability Assessment will address the unsustainable effects of Tampons ecologically and socially. Tampons are greatly used among women, as they approximately use 9,300 tampons in their lifetime. It is also very convenient and compact as it can be seen on every store shelf. However, there are many disadvantages in its use. Every woman has their period every month. Hence, the tampons are greatly needed. With this need is a health risk that can affect women in the future, such as dioxin residue, and chemicals in fragrances that are found within the tampon itself. In these chemicals lies a more dangerous risk, which is Toxic Shock Syndrome, pelvic inflammation to name a few. Thus, a woman's need can also be the one that can put her in danger. Tampons, as small as it can seem, can also harm the environment. The production of cotton uses pesticides that can be carcinogenic and can leave traces in tampons. The plastic applicator found in tampons can harm marine ecosystem and can take years to degrade. The tampon, itself, that are found in landfills can't also degrade and can cause carbon emissions. On the other hand, Tampons are controlled and manufactured by well–known companies such as Procter & Gamble, and Johnson & Johnson, which makes it economically stable. Feminine products, such as tampons, can increase up to the US $35.4 Billion in global sales. With this power, they can deceive the customers into thinking that their product is safe when it is not. 2. Desired outcomes: Briefly explain each of the following outcomes: (a) My issue is/is not ecologically sound because... Tampons have always been in the garbage every month, as every woman uses it. Its waste can amount to 62, 415lbs. This garbage, without proper disposal, can end in landfills, which can take up more than a year to degrade. A tampon has super absorbent, dense fibers that are petroleum–based, which takes up a slower process to degrade in areas that are at a colder temperature. Moreover, its plastic applicators can also be a cause in harming the marine ecosystem. Some of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How does it affect the properties of a textile? Crimp is the bends and twists along the length of a fiber. It increases resiliency, bulk, warmth, elongation, absorbency, and skin comfort. Makes the hand harsher and luster is reduced as crimp increase. Allows the fiber to stand off the skin so fabric will not cling to the wearer 's skin. Also helps make the fiber able to withstand being bent back on itself many times without breaking. 6. How does fiber absorbency affect the properties of a textile? Absorbency affects: skin comfort, static build–up, dimensional stability in water, stain removal, water repellency, and wrinkle recovery. 7. What is pilling? Why is it more apparent on some fibers than on others? Pilling is the formation of groups of short or broken fibers on the surface of a fabric that are tangled together into tiny balls (pills). More apparent on hydrophobic fibers because their fibers have greater electrical static attraction for each other ran do not fall off the fabric surface. Wool also pills because it has a scaly surface. 8. Which fiber would be more suitable for athletic wear–one that wicks or one that absorbs moisture? Why? • 27. Corner Detection Are Useful for Computer Vision... Corner detection and its parameters: position, model and orientation are useful for many computer vision applications, such as object recognition, matching, segmentation, 3D reconstruction, motion estimation [2, 3, 4, 34.] indexing, retrieval, robot navigation and in our case edge tracking from geometry design. This need has driven the development of a large number of corner detectors [1, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13.]. Other methods for corner detection are described in [14, 15]. These detectors compete with each other in terms of precision localization, accuracy, speed, and information they provide. Model classification and orientation are the most interest information needed in process of edge tracking. For some of these approaches, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Corner strength has been first defined by Noble [12] from which a slightly different version has been proposed by Harris and Stephen [11]: (1.2) The role of the parameter k is to remove sensitivity to strong edges. The Plessey operator uses estimates of the variance of the gradient of an image in a set of overlapping neighborhoods. This detector, which produced much interest, was extended by including local gray–level invariants based on combinations of Gaussian derivatives [17]. One of the earliest detectors [16], which was based on the Moravec operator, defines corners to be local extrema in the determinant of the Hessian Matix, H=M. The Kitchen and Rosenfeld operator [5] uses an analysis of the curvature of the grey–level variety of an image. The SUSAN operator [18] uses a form of grey–level moment that is designed to detect V– corners, and which is applied to other model of corner. The earlier Forstner [22] algorithm is easily explained in terms of H (Hessian Matrix). For a more recently proposed detector [20], it has been shown [21] that under affine motion, it is better to use the smallest eigenvalue of H as the corner strength function. Recently, George Azzopardi and Nicolai Petkov [36] propose a trainable filter which we call Combination Of Shifted FIlter REsponses (COSFIRE) and use for keypoint detection and pattern recognition. 2) Contour based methods These methods extract contours and then ... MAJOR WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT: TOPIC TWO ESSAY WORD COUNT: 1893 In film, drama is the most diverse of genres with many subcategories such as crime drama, comedy drama, romantic drama, historical drama etc. Dallas Buyers Club directed by Jean–Marc Vallee and The Imitation Game by Morten Tyldum both take on the role of producing historical and biographical dramas. These can be categorized as both films are set in the past to tell a story and through the perspective a certain important person and time in history. The purpose of a drama film is to touch on realism of a central protagonist and the people that he/she interacts with, to touch on social issues mostly and go in depth indirectly through a character's encounter with the issue(s). The genre most commonly is known for relying on emotional techniques that cause sympathy for characters to drive the film to be put into the typical convention of drama. Also, the films focus on building up characters that the audience can relate and engage with, and social interaction between the characters. When a person thinks of the genre of drama, the first thing that may be recognized and associated is that the film type strongly relies on emotional techniques. Especially examples that the audience can relate and engage with. • 43. Richard Foster's Book, Innovation: The Attackers Advantage Innovation, the ability to change and take risk; is a key attribute to success. No company has become successful by keeping their old ways, or staying to the "tried and true" (Foster, 1986). No successful business can stay successful regardless of how much money or technology they have, if they do not know how to keep evolving with time. Success isn't built off one tool; it is built off a variety of tools. This book taught me that one must constantly adapt to the world around you, because it won't slow down. We live in an ever–changing world. One must be willing and able to change. This book teaches how to be "unsafe" in the world of business, never stick with one way, never rely on one source of success; be ready to change it and find ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Foster talks about these mistakes in detail, which I will try to summarize in the next few paragraphs. The first mistake companies make is assuming there is no reason to upgrade, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. The second mistake companies make is that they think they will have ample warning about a discontinuity, this is not always true. The book gives a good example, if one can tell one has a fever by placing one's hand on ones head then one should have been in bed days ago. The third mistake is one should not base all his new ideas on trying to predict what the consumer will want. Consumers don't always know what they want until they are showed. Customers did not always want disposable paper diapers until P&G convinced them they were just as good, if not better. Lastly, know onescompetitors. It is easier to defend an attack when one has paid attention to the potential threats. Most companies don't realize who their actual competitors are until it's too late, and usually it's the smaller companies they over–looked. Foster states usually 7 out of 10 attacks are successful; therefore 3 attacks may be unsuccessful. What did those defenders do? Foster states that there are three ways a defender can strike back. First is "leapfrogging", instead of creating new technology that might be costly, inefficient or inferior technology. They wait for companies to do this for them then they leapfrog ahead. ... Textiles are used in order to accentuate and warm the body. Heavier and more durable textiles are developed for the decoration and protection of furniture. There are approximately 7 billion people living in the world and all of them own at least one textile, whether it be a clothing item or a burlap sack. For thousands of years humanity has used textiles for practical and decorative uses. Inhabitants of northwestern India perfected the small–scale production of cotton fabrics; and indigenous Chinese people used silkworm rearing in order to create elegant silk outfits. During the early development of textile production, outfits and other merchandise were produced on a small–scale. Many individuals created goods in their homes, and this took a while to complete due to the amount of detailing needed for the products. This increased clothing prices and quality. After the industrial revolution, fabric production was moved from homes to factories; and clothing became cheaper in both price and quality. Apparel factories were one of the few jobs that women were allowed to have during the Victorian era. Due to the lack of jobs and desire for a better life, female employees were subjected to many types of abuse. Ans. We know, business valuation is a process and a set of procedures used to estimate the economic value of an owner's interest in a business. Valuation is usually used by financial market participants to determine the price they are willing to pay or receive to acquire a business. In addition to estimating the selling price of a business, the same valuation tools are often used by business appraisers to resolve disputes related to estate and gift taxation, divorce litigation, allocate business purchase price among business assets, establish a formula for estimating the value of partners' ownership interest for buy–sell agreements, and many other business and legal purposes. One of the most common used methods of valuation of a business is "Discounted Cash Flow method". Taking a Look at Polyester Fiber 2.2 Polyester Fiber 2.2.1 Background and General Properties of Polyester Fiber Polyesters are those fibers containing at least 85% of a polymeric ester of a substituted aromatic carboxylic acid including but not restricted to terephthalic acid and f–hydroxybenzoic acid. The major polyester in the market is polyethylene terephthalate (PET), an ester formed by step growth polymerization of terephthalic acid and the diol ethylene glycol. The polyester fibers all have similar properties, are highly resilient and resistant to wrinkling, possess high durabilily and dimensional stability, and are resistant to chemical and environmental attack(Needles, 1986). In 1996, 24.1 million metric tons of manmade fibres were produced globally. The main volume gain took place in production of PET fibres (PET filament 9%, PET staple 4%) (Froehlich, 1997). Dramatic growth in PET fibre production is foreseen in Asia in the near future (Harris, 1996). The cost of polyester, with the combination of its superior strength and resilience, is lower than that of rayon. Polyester fibres are hydrophobic which is suitable for lightweight facing fabrics used in disposable industry providing a perceptible dry feel on the facing, even when the inner absorbent media is fully saturated. The aforementioned tampons and sanitary pads are the most common devices to combat periods, but there is a general lack of regulation surrounding these products. The toxic dioxins are caused by accidental contaminants such as pesticide residue in cotton and toxic by products created in the manufacturing process (Rabin). Because the potential of pesticides and contaminants are not listed or even made known to consumers, they are unknowingly exposing themselves to chemicals that could prove fatal in the right circumstances. The levels of these dioxins are trace, "but consider the menstrual lifetime of a woman. They use approximately 12,000 tampons in a lifetime. That means 12,000 exposures of dioxin ... five, six, seven times a day. That's a lot of dioxin absorbed directly through the vagina. It goes directly into the blood. Vaginal tissue isn't like other skin. It's covered in mucous membranes, it's very permeable. It's a direct route to your reproductive organs" (Kuonang). The FDA claims that the levels of dioxins in tampons is perfectly safe, but as Kuonang points out, for the majority of a woman's lifetime she is directly exposed to potentially toxic materials. Some studies have found that these chemicals and cotton bleaching techniques have been linked to endometriosis and even infertility, further raising risks that are majorly unknown (Rabin). This was achieved by means of chemical reactions outlined below, heat to increase the reaction rate, ice baths to precipitate out the product, vacuum filtration to isolate the product, washing with water and 95% ethanol to purify the product, and dying of the clothe to observe dye effectiveness. The test of the effectiveness of the dye required that the fabric absorb one wavelength and then reflect the opposing color, and then be able to keep the color through basic washing. Potential sources of error can be found during heating and cooling of the azo dye. Increased temperature during heating resulted in the dye being dissolved very well into the liquid, and when the flask was removed it was not properly cooled all of the way before being poured into the vacuum filtration system. At what point do you go from defending yourself to being the attacker. That is the question in the case of Rayon's situation. On October 13th, 2011, Denise Darbeau and Rachel Edwards entered a McDonald's restaurant at West 4th Street in Greenwich Village, New York City, New York. Both women were intoxicated when they entered this McDonald's to presumably order food. Upon arriving at the cash register to pay for their food, they produce a fifty dollar bill to pay for their food. Any responsible cashier would check the authenticity of the fifty dollars. This cashier would be Rayon McIntosh, a recently released convict who served ten years in prison for manslaughter in 2000. As Rayon McIntosh proceeded to check the money, Denise and Rachel became angry and began verbally attacking and threatening Rayon's life. It was then that one of the women spat on Rayon and slapped him, Denise then jumps over the counter to confront Rayon as Rachel walks around to the back. Rayon goes to grab something to defend ...
