Digipak Advert Analysis
1.
2. The artist is sitting on the curb of a
pavement whilst hopelessly looking
into the distance. This could suggest
the type of music and genre he
produces on his album.
The artist clothing is casual which could
suggest that his music is about love and
relationships. The Mise-en-scene is simple
and reflects the dominant ideology of the
genre. His costume is plain and calm yet
slightly stands out as the colour filter takes
out colour from the background; the
road. This connects with the font, as again
he has used the same style font but in a
colour that contrast with the background
to make it stand out.
The typography of the artists name is bold
and clear with a stylish font. The burgundy
colour blends well with the wet pavement
which is really effective. The information
about his album is in italic and regular
which shows that his name is one of the
main aspects of this magazine advert.
The portrait image shows that the
main focus is the artist as he is the
unique selling point.
The artists promotes his website which
reveals the different media platforms
he has to interact with his target
audience.
The detail of the magazine advert is direct and
factual. It states the artists name and album name in
the same consistent font, but then give further details
about the release date and a song which is actually
on the album. This is written in the same colour and
capital letters to make it bold and clear to the
audience, it gives as little information as possible as
the idea is to catch the eye of the audience and try
and make them remember what they have seen. At
the very bottom of the magazine article there is
further detail in a much smaller font size, giving the
artists two websites where further information
is available from. This can only be seen if the reader
takes a closer look at the advert, rather then just
glimpsing at it, so this may therefore be directed at
those who are already familiar of the artists work.
The size of the advert is a full A4 page. As the artist is
mainstream for this genre it is understandable that he
would have a full A4 marketing pitch. If however he
was lesser known as many acoustic/pop artists are,
he may have a smaller advert such as half A4 or ever
a quarter.
The target audience for this magazine advert are for
people who already know of his work as well as new
possible purchases. They must like the magazine
which they are reading and fit into the genre of this
area also. They are likely to enjoy the artists previous
work as well as other artists of this genre like James
Blunt or Jason Mraz.
The advert itself is mostly redundant again as it is too
simple for entropy aspects. It follows the dominant
ideology conventions of the genre by its low key
lighting, colour filter, Mise-en-scene, simplicity and
content.
