The genre of this magazine is R&B, I know this because of the image
which is of Kendrick Lamar who is an R&B artists, this is how the image
relates to the genre of the magazine. The target audience for this
magazine are people who follow or enjoy R&B and Hip Hop music and
artists of this genre. The audience will be attracted to this magazine
because of the image of the artist who is very popular within the R&B
music culture, also due to the text which contains names of other popular
R&B artists similar to Kendrick Lamar. The image is a medium shot, and
there is a lot of white space around the head the effect of this is to make
it easier to focus on the artist because there is nothing obstructing the
readers view. The clothing of the artists is a plain white shirt and gold
jewellery, the effect of this is that it reflects the typical image of R&B artist
because they like to show how much money they have and they do this
buy wearing excessive amounts of gold expensive jewellery. The way he
is holding/rubbing his hands together could suggest that he is anticipating
or receiving something. Also the gesture could suggest that he is trying to
portray that he is powerful and all mighty. The main colours that have
been used are red, black and white, the colours help portray the mood of
the image which is dark and mysterious, because black and red as seen
as dark and dangerous colours, red reflects blood. Also the colour red
has been chosen for the title of the magazine because red stands out
and this can reflect the genre of the magazine because people on the
music industry of R&B produce music that is different from typical music
and songs that has a deeper meaning. The magazine is called ‘VIBE’,
this reflects to the content an target audience of the magazine because
R&B music likes to allow people to feel a certain way and feel the good
vibes from the music. The typefaces that have been used is capital
letters throughout the front cover, the point of this is to show that people
in the R&B industry want to be heard and known in the music industry,
also it could reflect how R&B music is growing and becoming
increasingly popular.
Language technique that has been used is
exaggeration for example “GOD and
GREATEST”, this helps persuade people into
buying the magazine.

The genre of Beatz magazine urban and hip hop music magazine.
I know this due to the image of an hip hop music artists, as well as
the names of other popular hip hop music artists like Soulja Boy
and Dappy. The target audience for this magazine is people who
enjoy and follow urban and hip hop music. The main image on the
cover is of “Tinashe” she is an R&B artists, this is how it relates to
the genre of the magazine. The image also relates to the target
audience because the people who read this magazine are into hip
hop and R&B artists meaning they would want to see an artists
within the genre to attract them to the magazine. The image is a
medium shot of an R&B artists, her bottom half has been left out
the effect of this is that the reader focuses on her face and her
facial expressions. The clothing she is wearing is all black, along
with gold jewellery and a hat. The gold jewellery relates to hip hop
and R&B because artist within in this genre are known for showing
off how much money they have without saying like this god
jewellery shows that she has a large amount of money. Also the
hat she is wearing reminds me of other artists within the R&B and
hip hop culture because it is the type of clothing their normally
wear in their music videos, magazines and album covers. Colours
that have been used is red, white and black, this is the same as
the Vibe magazine front cover. This contribute to the mood by
adding a dark and mysterious effect this then further relates to the
music that is released by hip hop and R&B artists because the
music is not always happy is about real life which sometimes is not
always the best.
The text is bold and in all capital letter the font is
bold, the name of the artists on the cover is the
second largest text of the page, the point of this is
to sell the magazine. Also the names of other
music artist from the same genre of the magazine
are also printed on the front cover. The reason
behind this is to further the persuasion for people
to but the magazine because if the reader likes the
artists in the main image they are more likely to
like the other artists.

The double page spread has been organised in
columns and rows, majority of the information is on
one page with large amounts of margins around the
text. The purpose of this article is to inform people
about the new R&B artists Kendrick Lamar along with
a interview with him. The double page spread
conforms with the house style of the magazine
because the background is full plain white with not
excessive amounts of text. The text being in columns
and rows continues through all of the magazine. Also
the artists that feature in the magazine are all in plain
casual clothing with expensive jewellery. The title of
this article is ‘KENDRICK’ which is in capital letters in
bold black and red at the top of the page, the effect of
this on the reader is that they instantly know what/ who
the article is about. There is one large image that takes
up on whole side of the double page spread, the image
of Kendrick Lamar this who the article is about. The
effect of the image is to let people know who the article
is about, we get this information quicker from reading
the image than we do reading text. The clothing in the
image is similar to the cover, this means the theme of
what he is wearing is consistent. Due to the article
being an interview the writer has wrote in the same
way as they speak from example in the article it says
“gotta”, “nah” “fresh” and “gonna”. This text speech is
slang, this reflects the genre of R&B/Hip Hop because
when we think of R&B we think of slang not standard
English, the effect of this is that it portrays a certain
image of the genre.

This links to the tone of the magazine which is not
serious and casual due to the interview not being to
organised and that the interviewee can say what he
wants in the way he wants, he has not been told what
he can and can’t say. This also can help perverse his
reputation of being opinionated and not letting anyone
stop him from expressing his feeling and opinions

The double page spread has been

article is an interview with Tinashe informing
people about her career in the R&B music
industry and what she is currently working
on. The style on the double page spread is
consistent with the house style of the
magazine with the black background and
the text being white, red and black. The tile
of the article is ‘TINASHE’ the effect of this
on the reader is that they know instantly
who/ what this article is about. There is one
main image taking up one whole side of the
double page spread, the image is of the
artist Tinashe, the effect of this is that we
know, without reading the text who the
article is about because we read images
faster than we read text. Also the image has
the same clothing as the front cover with the
black clothing and gold jewellery.
Contentions that have been used are
quotations from what the artists has said
and the question the interviewer has asked,
the effect of this is that we feel like we are
involved in the interview as both the
interviewer and interviewee.
The tone of the magazine is friendly, this does not
relate to the genre because people in the R&B and
hip hop industry like to have power and they do this
by maybe intimidating people. The article has been
written in standard English with some words that not
everyone would understand like “gangster” and
“gonna”.

The contents page has one large image in the centre of
the same artists on the front cover. The text has been
sorted into columns of rows next to the image on the
right, the image relates to the genre of the magazine
because the image is of an R&B artists. The images also
has a similar clothing as the front cover, with the plain
clothing along with gold jewellery, this relates to the genre
of R&B because they like to show how much money they
have and they do this buy wearing excessive amounts of
gold expensive jewellery. The contents page is consistent
with the rest of the magazine due to the same artists
through out as well as the red front for ‘VIBE’ and the
plain white background also with the black text. On the
contents page they are features with the page numbers,
this makes to easy for the reader to locate certain
features, however this could just be certain features not
all the features in the magazine. There is text that
anchors the photo, the text is the page number to the
article/interview with the artists in the image. The text that
has been used to explain the main features is pervasive
text for example: ‘greatest’, ‘dominant’ and ‘lustable’
reading certain articles.

that people who follow this genre
would know and like. The text that

a little introduction to what the
particular article is about, the
effect of this on the reader is that
they instantly know what that
particular article is about with the
text and they would also know
what/who the article is about from
just looking at the image
Also at the bottom on the page by the number page there is a link to the
magazine websites, this would allow people to look at their website, to
be able to have a subscription to the magazine as well as get any other
information about the magazine. Also certain number are bigger along
with the bigger images this effect of this is to persuade the reader to
reader theses particular articles, furthermore it makes it seem that
theses articles have more of an importance than the other articles.
