are in the music and the typography of
the graffiti is messy and so reflects his

conform to a standard rhythm. He is
looking to the right and looking if
anyone is going to catch him out
graffitying on the wall and this shows
how he is rebellious and his music
may convey the rebellious nature of
his audience. He is not giving the
audience direct address and he does
not want to acknowledge them as he
is doing a bad thing which may spur
on his fans to do the same thing. The
use of space on this spread is poor as
it leaves little writing for the article and
is mainly for the images to look at and
the subheading gives a bit of info.

black to show his story and why you should
read this article. The wording is a play on word
from the well-known phrase ‘from rags to riches’
and the reason that it has been changed to tags
is supposed to appeal to the target audience
more as it references the rap genre of being rich
and having designer goods rather than rags.
This also shows his progression throughout his
career. The words ‘tags’ and ‘riches’ are
enlarged more than the other words because it
shows how those two words are the most
important and that they are most relevant to the
article below it. The article shows events coming
up and information about the artist, this would
be of interest to his fans and readers of this
magazine.
Here, drop caps are used as it is a
convention in all magazines and it marks
the start of the article. Also it is eye
catching and encourages the reader to
continue reading. The drop caps are the
same size and font as most of the main
headline and therefore show continuity
from the headline to the article. It draws
attention as it is the biggest letter and
the paragraph sets the scene for the
audience.
The bottles here also show rebellion as they
are empty and smashed ones show how he
may be a party animal or rebelling against
conformity or society. His music may talk about
alcohol or partying and therefore this
represents what his lyrics are written about or
inspired by. The text of the article is going
around the image of the music player and
makes it seem important.
The subheading here gives a bit of detail
about the artist Dizzee rascal and
introduces him to the audience. It also
references other celebrities to grab the
reader’s attention. It sums up who he is
in case a reader is unaware.

credits them. Otherwise
there would be no way of
knowing easily. It is small
and not relevant to the
article and majority of
people won’t notice it
unless they were looking.
Here there is the masthead repeated here to make it
familiar to the audience. The masthead is the same
colour and stands out from the yellow section of the
background. Here there is also the page number, and if
the audience were going from the contents page to the
double page spread they would look for the page
number and the masthead being next to it would make
the ‘NME’ stick in their mind for future purchases.
The article here is in a column style layout with 4 different small layers and it is set
out this way to promote that it is easy to read and the article is quite small as the
main image and the celebrity is the main focus. The grid shows a simple layout.
