The document discusses the author's decision to style their magazine after indie/rock and alternative music magazines. They will focus on these genres because they already like the music styles and artists. They then list some magazines that follow a similar genre focus: Clash magazine uses a large bold masthead in the center and covers both indie and some alternative artists. Loud and Quiet also focuses on indie, rock, and electronic music with a large centered masthead and photos with borders. Pitchfork also centers its masthead and sometimes features random photos instead of artist pictures.

Magazines that influence me
1. My genre
I have decided I will style my magazine after the indie, indie/rock and
alternative style magazine. This is because I like that style of music, I feel if I
make something I am already passionate about and like then it will become
easy for me or easier. This will be because I will like the artists music style I
am writing about so I already have some knowledge on how this music genre
usually is. The artists I like of this style are: Mac Demarco, the Vaccines,
Arctic monkeys, Stone roses, Pulp, the Courteeners, Foals and many others.
But I also believe the films I watch influence the music I listen to as if a film
has a good soundtrack I will start to like that style of music a film with the
style of music I already listened to was Submarine with a soundtrack by Alex
Turner lead singer of The Arctic Monkeys, because I already liked their music
this soundtrack was a similar to their music following their style causing me
to like his soundtrack.
2. Magazines that follow my genre
Clash magazine
This is the first that follows the indie music. It uses a
masthead that is common with indie magazines of it
being big and bold and because this style of magazine
usually ’throws the rules of the window’ it has the
masthead in the centre rather than usually having it in
the top left corner. It also uses a clean white crisp
masthead which makes it look more artistic which is
usaly with the indie style. However this magazine doesn’t
just concern itself with indie, indie/rock it does
occasionally include other music styles like rap shown to
the left with Tyler, the creator who does fall into the
alternative genre but it has included artists like Jay-Z.
3. Magazines that follow my genre
Loud and Quiet
This magazine again concerns itself with indie, rock
and alternative music but it also includes electronic
music. Every edition has the large bold masthead at
the top centre. It then has the picture underneath
with writing on about other artists that will be
featured in that edition of Loud and Quiet, but the
picture then has a white boarder around the edge
of the photo which is different compared to other
indie magazines that have the front cover image
going right to the edge. This is a style that I would
like to follow because it isnt used often so will make
my magazine different compared to other
magazines out there but obviously not Loud and
Quiet.
4. Magazines that follow my genre
Pitchfork magazine
This magazine does mainly focus on smaller
indie artists however more recently it has
been focusing on bigger artists since it has
become bigger. This magazine again follows
the indie magazine style of having the
masthead in the centre of the cover but it
also follows the other style of throwing the
rules out the window. This magazine does it
by not even having pictures of the main
artist cover inside but instead having a
random picture as shown left of having a
loaf of bread on the cover.
