So I would say my VFX journey started with completely breaking down mentally.
QA lead + studying
Panic attacks
You are not alone
Patch myself up
I stepped back. Quit QA leading and went went to a lower pay and lower responsibility job - Content Specialist at Asset Store.
Career is not a linear line, you have to step back sometimes
This is where I found VFX.
These are my first created VFX
I did 3D modelling, concept art. Illustration and it all came together
I understood VFX differently - for me it was shader, so went pretty hard on that.
When I thought of doing this full time - doubts.
Only after a while I understood
No opportunities in Vilnius.
Linkedin and internships.Just comparing myself to other people.
No consistency because of doubts, kept loosing momentum of making new things and learning.
Don't call yourself aspiring artist, that sounds lame because you are already an artist.
Not starting and committing is the same as failing… and you might learn from that rather than learn nothing at all.

Look what at what works and do it better
Quit Unity > no plan just make vfx.
People went kinda nuts… You are leaving without a plan!!??? Only really close people understood
How I got into estoty, Networking event, kinda in a bathroom line?
Entered a mobile studio as vfx artist but its… mobile. I want to make cool PC GAMES!!
Moved to indie studio golem house
People talking trash, it’s dangerous, you won’t get stable pay. But it’s an rpg game, unique project, PC game relevant and fun vfx.
Got bankrupt.
Ultra horse for two months - completely remote, did not get over the ending of the project… Cried a few times - Decided to to apply to another studio.
Tuatara!!
I stopped the inner critic, let see where this will take me
If I settled for the studios that were safe I wouldn’t be where I am
I was not comfortable copying shaders because I thought I was cheating
Photoshop, Substance designer, blender for 3D, Unity & Unreal (focusing more on unreal)
Eventually you will learn a little bit of everything
I hesitated on asking questions, tried to reinvent to reinvent stuff
When you think its a stupid question it might not be a stupid question at all
I always had a hard time with math, tried to solve the issue on my own (which worked but it was not that efficient), then the dev just helped me and told me theres a math formula of what I am trying to do
There can be a lot of miscommunication working in a diverse environment, it’s always good to check if what somebody said you understood correctly. If I am not sure about something I always rephrase the task in my own words to see if I understood correctly.
