• Just think, if a 3 minute video can create such an
engagement, how much thought should be put in for a
60 minute or a longer webcast
Audience status today
• Technology has simplified many situations but it has
also made people wary of longer duration
scenarios
• We live in a world of twitter, so a lengthy content or
a video has to be too interesting to avoid
• If it’s not, there will be a put off
• On the other hand, people have also become
generous
• If they like any idea or a content, they will
instantly share it on their social network or
recommend it to their friends.
• Hence, all you need to do is engage them.

So, what kind of things are to be considered
to engage your audience during a webcast?
Here’s our checklist…
Curiosity Generating Webcast Title
• Catch your audience attention first
• Keep the title such that it makes them curious
Eg. For a webcast on secure banking tips, you can use
“What if someone is peeping into your bank details?”
• This kind of title creates fear in the minds of people and associates
quickly with them
• That’s it. Half the job is done. You have created a pull!
Introduction which keeps
interest flowing
• 1st few minutes of your webcast decides
whether audience is going to be engaged or
not. So make it count.
• Quote a great man or provide a statistic.
This makes your audience trust that you are
indeed a knowledgeable person.
• Eg. If you giving a webinar on leadership
management, why not quote about Steve
Jobs? Everyone loves him.
Different forms of content
• Imagine you are attending an important
session but the presenter is just talking
plain text for 45 mins. It’s natural that you
will lose interest, isn’t it?
• Hence, make sure to use images to
complement your speech. We understand
things better in a pictorial way.
Different forms of content
• Videos are the most effective medium today
to give insights to people as well as keep
them engaged.
• Eg. If a Neurosurgeon is talking about
improved ways of surgery, think about the
impact when he/she shows the actual video
of how the surgery can be done in a better
way, instead of just talking.
Interact with them
All the talk and no interaction with people makes
the webcast a dull process.
• Ask questions to audience. It keeps them alert.
• Try to be funny. Answer them nicely.
• Talk to them by their name. Nothing motivates
them more than this.
• Appreciate their efforts to ask questions and if
someone is really contributing well, applaud
them.
Polling, Surveys and Chats
• Having Polls & Surveys in webcast keep your virtual
audience active and smooth interaction prevails
• Chats with them during webinar is a great way to
personalize the communication
• Your audience feels privileged when you personally
converse with them
Only bullet points in the slide
• PowerPoint slides are there just to help you
direct through the presentation
• Always use just bullet points and explain them
in details verbally
• Your audience should look at you while you
speak and not the slides
Time
• Time should not always be a constraint for
learning. Some topics can be dealt in
shorter duration but not all.
• If you have a data that is useful to people,
share it. Don’t keep an eye on clock.
Eg. If you are launching a product online and a lot
of people are asking questions, don’t give them an
excuse of timing. Never shut their curiosity off. Attend
them. Engagement is the primary focus of any
webcast.
Sense of Humor
• A little sense of humor connects you with
your audience so naturally that the
connection becomes strong and fruitful
• It adds human touch to the presentation
and engagement becomes smooth
Learn
• No one’s perfect. Always get audience
feedback and act on it.
• Even during the presentation, if they are
sharing something, be wise to learn from it
• After all, learning is never wasted, it gives
you new ideas to engage them
