The Debate On Gun Control
This paper explores gun control through five main articles. There are many standpoints that take
place due to the diversity of the articles used. Gun control is a global topic and it comes up in the
news all of the time. It affects society because of its wide range of topics it is involved in. This paper
talks about different standpoints on gun control, from it why it should be in place, to why it shouldn
't be in place, to how other countries have used it. It includes statistics about mass shootings and
other countries gun control. This paper is perfect for the avid gun owner to the full fledged second
amendment supporter all the way to insanely left wing democrats who hate guns. All of the sources
are reliable and hold true factuality about this topic. Some come from the government, and some
come from other credible websites that specialize in guns and gun control topics. The Difference
Between Life and Death: A Sleepless Debate on Gun Control Most U.S. citizens have probably
heard of the Columbine, Virginia Tech, and Sandy Hook; they probably know immediately that
these names are in reference to mass shootings and/or massacres where firearms were used. The fact
of the matter is that innocent deaths by guns are becoming a common occurrence in the United
States. Some say that guns kill people, others say that people kill people. Although murder pre dates
guns, murder rates have skyrocketed since guns have become mass produced and readily available.

The Debate Over Gun Control
The debate over gun control in America continues to trouble politicians to this day. According to the
constitution, the second amendment gives us the right to bear arms (U.S. Const.). Many different
interpretations of what precisely the amendment means exist in this country. However, the two main
sides include pro gun control and against gun control. In this paper, we will weigh the pros and cons
of both sides and with any luck approach a conclusion on what side performs a superior job. People
interpret gun control as the problem, but realistically gun control laws do not cause the issues,
however the people that enforce said laws do. Scrutiny over gun control reached an all time high
recently and addressing the scrutiny helps find the solution. The individuals that agree with gun
control often base their argument on the statistics of gun related deaths in the country, often times
they do not state whether or not these include intentional or accidental deaths. They also do not take
into account whether or not that the deaths happen solely because of the guns. Guns cannot kill
people, the people with guns kill people, but if they really wanted to kill someone not having a gun
does not effect whether or not it happens (NRA). Inanimate objects do not ever kill anyone and guns
classify as inanimate objects. According to statistics, out of 4.3 million non– lethal violent crimes a
year only 8 % involved guns (U.S. Congress 4). Often activists for gun control call for stricter

The Debate Over Gun Control
Never A Win–Win The topic of gun control has become very popular in recent years as there is now
more controversy than ever about the role that guns play in today's world. I have come to be
interested in this topic because it seems like not a day goes by anymore where there isn't a
newspaper published with an article slandering either the pro or anti gun control activists. Going
into this topic, I was assuming that I would end up reading about a lot of school shootings and how
it is just guns that are causing so many deaths each year, but there seems to be a bit more to it than
that. It really is no surprise that this topic has become so popular as of late, considering that in 2014
there were roughly 51,000 firearm related incidents, and in 2015 roughly 53,000 incidents. If there
is one thing that I for sure already know, its that guns have a huge impact on our society. There are
so many lives that are impacted by gun related incidents every year that it is nearly impossible to get
away from. So the question stands, are guns a necessary and helpful tool for Americans to wield, or
are they the merciless killing machines that they have been publicized as in recent years? While
researching gun control, one of the first major sources that I found was of course the second
amendment to the United States constitution. The second amendment is as follows, "A well
regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and

Guns Do Not Belong on Campus
The debate on gun control has been an issue in the United States since the country began. The
founding fathers of the nation considered the issue so important it was addressed in the second
amendment to the Constitution which states, "A well–regulated Militia, being necessary to the
security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed" (US
Const. amend. II). Of course these words have been interpreted differently through the years.
When I began working in campus law enforcement 15 years ago, a person found with a concealed
firearm in their possession outside of their home could have been arrested. Many cities in Kansas
also had laws prohibiting the transportation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The law defines adequate security measures as:
"...the use of electronic equipment and personnel at public entrances to detect and restrict the
carrying of any weapons into the state or municipal building, including, but not limited to, metal
detectors, metal detector wands or any other equipment used for similar purposes to ensure that
weapons are not permitted to be carried into such building by members of the public. Adequate
security measures for storing and securing lawfully carried weapons, including, but not limited to,
the use of gun lockers or other similar storage options may be provided at public entrances"
(K.S.A.75–7c20L)
As the law is written right now the four–year exemption will expire in July of 2017 at which time
universities will no longer be able to restrict concealed carry of firearms on their campuses.
Although there are no signs the Kansas legislature is going to change course, there are some very
compelling reasons why they should. In the United States the leading cause of death amongst people
of college age (15–24 years old) is accidents, followed by suicide and homicide (Centers for Disease
Control). Data shows that for Americans under the age of 30 years old these three categories account
for 79% of all deaths, with chronic and infectious disease accounting for only 21% of deaths
(Mcintosh).
These statistics highlight the propensity for risky behavior amongst people of college age. As a

The Gun Control Debate
Gun control is a hot issue in the United States, especially recently in the wake of many mass
shootings. The gun control debate is an issue that tends to divide people, you either support stricter
gun laws or you stand for current gun freedoms, the majority of people on both sides of the debate
feel strongly about their opinions. Contrary to what many believe, gun ownership is actually
beneficial to citizens. There is evidence to support the ideas that gun ownership deters crime, gun
control laws deny people a sense of safety, and lower gun ownership rates do not prevent suicides.
Most of the stories people hear involving guns put guns in a negative light, however there are
studies that support the idea that high gun ownership rates protect

The Gun Control Debate in America
GUN CONTROL DEBATE IN AMERICA
Gun control has become a very hot topic of contention in America today. What seems to echo here
are two words: "guns" and "crime", in a sense that are these words mutually exclusive to each other?
Does the use of guns ultimately lead to crime? On the flip side, have the laws in America restricting
firearm use been effective enough to protect the lives of the citizens? These are some of the
questions that strike the hearts of many when the gun control debate music is played. However, the
debate about gun control is not new.
Guns as we know them to be are very powerful and dangerous weapons. They are instruments that
can be used to inflict severe harm and can even lead to death. However, amidst this fact of ... Show

Flowing from my analogy about the big pot, I would like to further present the American context
that as we know has two main political ideologies, the republicans and the democrats. On one hand,
history has shown that the republicans have for a long time supported the pro gun movement. The
reason is because of their intrinsic nature of conservatism, and the fact that they are backed by the
national rifle association which happens to be a key player in this debate. On the other hand,
Democrats are known to be supporters of the gun control debate. This is because of the increased
sale in guns after the 9/11 attacks; hence, they try to cavers on the issue. In this regard, it seems
notable that the republicans are on the front row.
Now, from my little knowledge of political philosophy, government as a concept refers to a
constituted body that helps to keep and protect the basic rights of its citizens, and also to make laws
that ensure that everyone in the society is safe. Therefore, the gun control issue cannot be over
emphasized for the American government or any other government on a larger scale. One of the
questions surrounding the gun control debate in America is to ascertain whether or not the second
amendment grants the freedom of firearm ownership to common citizens. The amendment however,
seems to support the possession of firearm by the militia.
The social perspective has to do with the citizens and the society. In this regard,

Your second amendment rights are being taken away. In recent years, the government has been
working to create laws to ban U.S. citizens right to own firearms. Not only is it more difficult to
purchase guns, in today's world, but soon people will have to give up the guns they already own.
The government believes this will stop shootings. However, gun laws will not prevent gun violence.
The government has banned so many item and yet people can still get them. Which means laws and
policies do not stop people. Citizens need to be able to protect themselves and their families. Even if
you ban guns, that's not going to prohibit people from getting guns if they really want them. Think

So, it seems that if a policy is made, it is only going to make people without guns more vulnerable
and people that get them illegally more dangerous. We live in the U.S. where it is stated in the
Constitution that citizens have the right to bear arms. The government wants to take away a right
that our forefathers thought that we deserved. This policy has worked for hundreds of years and now
that parents can not raise their children properly there is something wrong with the law? No, there is
a problem with the way this generation is being raised. This generation needs to grow up and
become adults and not dependant on their parents. Go out and get a job provide for themselves and
their families instead of asking their parents for money. It is not completely this generations fault it

Millburn township students and residents held a gun violence prevention rally in Taylor Park

activism of the Parkland students and wanted to do something that would keep the spotlight on the
issue of gun law reform, as well as honor the victims of gun violence.
Addressing the crowd Abrams touched on a little–discussed issue in the gun control debate; 94% of
mass shooters are male. "We have to ask, what is happening to our boys? Violence is not the
intrinsic nature of boys. It is overwhelmingly a product of environment. We must recognize the

Today in the United States gun control is a topic of immense debate, because of the shooting that
took place at Sandy Hook Elementary located in Newtown, Connecticut. This most recent tragic
event ended the lives of 20 students and six adults. Similar events have occurred across the United
States at a movie theater in Colorado, on college campuses in Texas and Virginia, or at the grocery
store in Arizona each destroying families in many communities. The questions deserving
consideration is have the American people had enough lives destroyed by these horrible events and

In 1994, President William Clinton approved a law called Violent Crime Control and Law
Enforcement Act. This act poured millions of dollars into law enforcement agencies to take back the
American neighborhoods, one block at a time. Currently, President Barack Obama has proposed to
Congress a plan improve the control of firearms in addition to opening more access to mental health
services. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) a government agency,
tasked to investigate and prevent federal offenses centered on the use, manufacturing, and owning of
guns and all types of explosives. This department also oversees the licenses, sales, and
transportation of any firearm, ammunition or explosive from state to state. In the 20th century, the
number of crimes using fully and semi–automatic weapons rose. Two infamous incidents are the
Saint Valentine's Day massacre of 1929 and the other occurred in 1997 when two gunmen engaged
in a shootout with police in North Hollywood, California. During this same period organization like
the National Rifle Association (NRA), Gun Owners of America (GOA), and Handgun Control, Inc
(HCI) were rallying support for an anti–gun control position. In the 21st century as violence
increases, pro–gun organizations still oppose the majority of the gun control proposals. According

Pro Gun Control Debate
As we engulf ourselves in politics for the election year, there has been frequent source of debate
between the candidates; gun control. In the words of Patrick J. Charles of Britannica, gun control is
"...politics, legislation, and enforcement of measures intended to restrict access to, the possession of,
or the use of arms, specifically firearms." Even taking away the political importance, gun control is
a hot topic that is in every Americans mind as fear for personal safety is on the rise. This has been
created by increased media attention and coverage of mass shootings, which seem to occur more
frequently as time goes on. This has lead to the question: can we use laws and enforcement to reduce
the violence? It shows creating laws to control or ban the purchasing and use of firearms is the most
probable to be the solution to reducing gun violence while coinciding with proper firearm education.
The event that sparked the modern debate of gun control occurred on July 20, 2012 when James
Holmes used weapons with high capacity magazines to open fire on a sold out movie theatre in
Aurora, Colorado, and accumulated 74 casualties, including 12 deaths. Colorado unfortunately is no

Which way will we choose?
Here we are again, stuck on the intersection. The recent shooting on a primary school in Newtown
has brought up the debate on gun politics, one of the most controversial topics in the United States,
again, and right they are. Since year and day it has been an ongoing problem, and the country seems
to be split in two, with on one side the people who think their right to bear weapons is too important
to let go and on the other side, the people who think that is exactly the problem.
In a way, the Americans have never been able to let go of their right to bear weapons since it was
admitted to the Bill of Rights in 1791, even when, after the assassination of John F. Kennedy in
1963, the gun control debate started. A

Gun Control Debate
As more crimes and gun violence continue to spread throughout the United States, the debate on gun
control becomes a more recurrent issue. The debate over gun control has been around for hundreds
of years, but it is merely impossible for the people to reach just one conclusion. In order to form an
educated opinion behind the research of gun control, the historical, political, economic, social, and
ethical perspectives must be contemplated. Guns are extremely dangerous and powerful weapons
that are used for protection and defense, or to threaten, kill, or harm. Our founding fathers
established the amendment to "bear arms" to provide safety for the country and to protect the United
States from all enemies. Gun control is defined as the policies that regulate the manufacturing, sale,
and use of handguns and any other form of firearms. This topic is one of the most controversial
debates worldwide. In the past years, the debate has gone further into the public eye. Some of the
most influential examples of these occurrences in the past years include the Sandy Hook Elementary
shooting in 2012 and the Charleston Church shooting in 2015, where a simple weapon took many
lives of innocents.

The Debate Over Gun Control
Gun Control is a hot debate topic, where people have been divided into two different viewpoints.
The majority of states has supported their colleges to carry guns in case of a mass shootout. While
the majority of liberal and democratic oppose carrying guns onto school property. Some states such
as Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Wisconsin, and Mississippi has already passed the
law to allowed students to carry concealed weapons on campuses to protect themselves from
unwanted mass shooters. It sounds good when a politician says all college students should carry
concealed weapons, but will it have any effect or will it be a big mistake. The majority of people
present their arguments that Gun shouldn't be allowed in Campuses. A campus is a place where
students gain knowledge it's not a battlefield of guns or place where students fear with their
classmates. This day 's people are being irrational about mass shootouts, media also has a huge
responsibility on this issue, media has the power to put fears on audience lives. There are many
solutions in order to fix this problem. Deploying more security could be a solution, it will also create
more jobs. Simply handing guns to teachers and students won't solve the problem of mass shot outs,
not everyone is a hero among college students as well, and there might be some students or faculty
member who are same likeminded as shooters. The another solution which could be effective is

Gun Control Close your eyes and relax. Imagine that you are in a time of 236 years ago, and
imagine that you are one of the few people that had the privilege of writing the country's
constitution. It would not take long until you get to the second amendment. This amendment reads
"A well–regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to
keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed" (Davis). This amendment has extreme importance, and
should not be taken lightly. However, this amendment is not accepted like it used to be, and it is a
big controversy in the United States today. Should the public be allowed to have weapons, or should
the government take them away? From an economic standpoint, it does not make much sense to take
guns away from people. Companies in the United States that manufacture, distribute and sell
firearms, ammunition and hunting equipment employ as many as 128,794 people in the country. The
total impact that the economy sees from this industry annually is approximately $42,956,599,500
(Dunham). With these statistics alone, it proves that taking guns away would hurt the already
struggling economy greatly. It just does not make sense economically to take guns away from
people because it would prohibit sales of firearms, ammunition, and other gun related items. On the
other hand, in the political side of things, it makes perfect sense to outlaw guns because of the
danger that comes with them.

and as long as it was purchased correctly, no one could disarm them. I believe that having stronger

reason.
The bad thing about the gun control laws is that people feel that it is taken their part of their freedom

The Debate Over Gun Control
If you have kept up with all the controversy in the news, then it is surely fair to assume that you
have an opinion over gun control. Gun control is a big deal because with so many people having
them it can make individuals feel unsafe to leave their home or possibly even be in their homes.
There is also the fear that individuals possess on the other end of the spectrum that if their guns are
taken, how they will protect themselves from people whom wish to harm them. These questions and
concerns rise from similar places. For instance, school or theater shootings are one source of the
fears and questions. On one hand you have anti–gun protesters saying, "if there were no guns this
couldn't happen," and on the other hand there are the pro–gun individuals saying that having more
guns would give us the protection we need at schools amongst other places while still being able to
feel secure in our homes. What will happen in the long run? I cannot say. However what we are
going to discuss here is how Washington, D.C. and Chicago, Illinois passed local laws banning the
possession of handguns and what the court said in these two decisions, and the idea of making it

The Debate On Gun Control Laws
The second amendment in the constitution has given American citizens the "right to bare arms".
Laws have been placed to restrict firearm ownership and rules have been set if you do own a
firearm. Does placing these laws of ownership stop the crime or protect the citizens? These
questions have been asked by many citizens and lawmakers when creating laws regarding gun
control. However, the debate on gun control is nothing new. In 1924, Presidential candidate, Robert
La Follete said, "Our choice is not merely to support or oppose gun control but to decide who can
own which guns under what conditions." This debate has been brought up multiple times still in
modern day due to no one settling on laws regarding ownership of a firearm. Statistic rates show
gun control laws in fact do work, so why haven't law officials put these into act? School shootings
are happening more; fear is being driven into citizens as they go about their daily life. Gun control
laws need to be enforced by law officials in order to control the harm guns can bring to citizens. Do
gun control laws work? Statistics have proven they do. Nationwide basic gun control laws are now
in effect. Laws vary state to state, restricting sale, purchase and use of guns. Some other laws
include, no person convicted of a crime can own a gun, and a person must be 21 or older to purchase
a handgun. Also a person who engages in the business of buying or selling a firearm must be

My opinion on the gun debate is that we need more gun regulations. I believe we can make gun–
control laws without depriving people of their constitutional right to bear arms. Similar to the

regulations allowed under the Second Amendment.
Why do we need gun control? There are so many casualties in the United States from gun–related

developed country:

Holding a gun, a crime or a right?
In my country, China, guns are so strictly controlled nationwide that people are not allowed to
manufacture, sell, transport or possess any form of firearm. Offenders are punished as crimes. Why
are guns so tightly controlled? The mainstream explanation is that, for the sake of social security, if
everyone has a gun, society is unsafe and chaos will ensue. Is this really gonna happen? I haven't
conducted any experiment about that, but the answer might be found in some countries like the
United States, where guns are legal. Five months ago, Just before I arrived in American for the first
time, all my relatives kept gabbing on the gun law in America, including my mom, who had
exhorted me repeatedly not to hang out on the unsafe streets after 8 pm. However, four months past

A Debate on the Gun Control Laws
Gun control
The Sandy Hook incident that took place in Newtown, Connecticut has caused a lot of people to
rethink about the second amendment and even go on to alter it. A lot of people think that the
availability of weapons for people is the reason for these shootings. It now appears that the cause
that re started this entire episode which was the Sandy Hook incident will not be fixed by what the
democrats are proposing as a solution will not be solved. It appears that the weapons Adam Lanza
obtained from his shooting were actually his mother. Lanza's mother purchased the gun in accord
with the Connecticut laws. It appears that the restrictive legislation that has been suggested for this
state would still not reduce his access to them. Gun control basically refers to the various means of
probation or restrictions on keeping weapons with a person. These restrictions look over not only the
possession of firearms, but on the transport and use of them.
Due to this debate, a lot of talk is being done about making the gun laws stricter and for houses to be
raided for registered guns. Even though a lot of debate is going on, it possible that a normal civilian
might not be allowed to own a firearm due to changes made in the amendment. The second
amendment provides the people of America with a right and it should not be changed just to fit the
government's agenda.

Since politics has existed, many controversies have come to surface and are still relevant. These
public disputes have no limit, ranging in cases from domestic to international. Opinions are always
expressed towards the activities associated with the governance of a country or other area. This
especially applies to the debate or conflict among individuals or parties in hope of achieving power.
Dealing with politics there is always a side that agrees and disagrees, thus developing the debate.
Two of the most domestic controversial political topics are abortion and gun control. As for
international there is terrorism. These three topics have been ongoing debates for some time.

People who oppose this opinion, called opponents usually identify themselves as pro–life.
Opponents assert that a human life begins at conception, so to seek abortion is equivalent to killing
an innocent child. Additionally, opponents imply that abortion inflicts pain on the unborn child
which is unfair for parents who desperately wish to adopt children since they cannot conceive
biologically. Surprisingly, there is an even amount of people on both sides of this topic, but there are
more proponents than opponents by only 2%. Being a female in today's society, I personally do not
counsel abortion but it should available for women who want it. Abortions can be very unfortunate,
but women should have the right to receive one despite others views about it. Actually, studies show
that only 52 percent say they know someone who has had an abortion (Traister). There are far bigger
issues to worry about than whether if a woman wants to keep her child or not. Essentially, nobody
should be telling anybody how to live their life. I do not agree with extremists against abortions
because they harshly judge women who get abortions, calling them "killers", or telling them they
will go to hell. Everyone makes mistakes and we are all not perfect. Additionally, there can be many
reasons behind why a woman wants an abortion such as the fear of transmitting STD's, living in an
abusive house or dangerous area, birth defects, being raped, or not being

Gun Control Debate On The United States
The gun control/gun control debate is a hot topic in the United States and all over the world. It
leaves us asking questions. Do guns have a negative effect on the United States? What happens if
the US gets rid of guns forever? Will it make crime rates fizzle out? Would it lead to chaos and total
anarchy or would crime rates go down? These are some of the questions that led to the profound
debate on gun rights and gun control. Gun control in the United States is understood as the
government 's regulation of selling, owning, and using guns. The whole gun control debate started
buzzing shortly after November 22, 1963, when the assassination of President John F. Kennedy
raised the public 's awareness of gun control. Before then, most states did not require permits to gun
ownerships and guns could be bought over the counter and even through mail order catalogs. In fact,
the rifle used by Lee Harvey Oswald, the assassin, was purchased through a mail order at a low–cost
of only $19.99. More leads for the anti–gun side includes the mass school shootings of Columbine
and Sandy Hook. However, America 's first firearms policies went way back to the Second
Amendment which was created in 1791. This amendment stated that: "A well regulated Militia,
being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall
not be infringed." Many would agree that the 2nd amendment does not apply to the ability to own a
gun because the amendment has to do with

Argumentative Essay: The Gun Control Debate
The gun debate is getting very heated as of recent months and it seems that the United States in
almost at a split on how to handle these manners. So I chose this topic to illustrate the importance of
how the situation of firearm issues could potentially increase to an even bigger issue. Also, I chose
this topic because whatever side you stand on in the gun debate, it's generally understood that
firearms, as of right now, are a problem. It's important to realize the nation's ongoing struggle with
the usage of firearms because it's only going to affect the future if we do not act now so therefore,
it's important to educate those who may not understand or assess the situation because everyone's
opinion could have a huge difference. Many of my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So this concealed carrier can try to protect for the time being. But not to forget, it is nice for a citizen

individuals out there who may have violent tendencies. If the second amendment states that you can
possess a firearm against a militia; ProCon.org (2015). For women, an 11% increase was recorded.

Debate on Gun Control
The Debate on Gun Control The debate concerning gun control has recently become as popular as
ever. People question if guns are really necessary. Some wonder that if the government regulates
who has the right to own a gun crime rates and death could decrease in the Unites States. Others
believe that guns aren't to blame for deaths; "guns don't kill people, people kill people". How can we
conclude which side is right if they both strongly believe in their argument? There are always two
sides to an argument; the only way to know which is right is to look at the facts.
Gun Control means that the government will regulate the sale and ownership of firearms. Therefore,
before getting a permit to carry a gun you will get a detailed background check to make sure you are
not an ex–felon or anything that could be a threat. This sounds great to many people, but there is one
snag in the plan; criminals will not get their guns registered. If the government begins to regulate
ownership of guns, it will not stop criminals from owning one.
Since 1950, every public mass shooting (with the exception of one) in the U.S. has occurred in a
place where guns are prohibited to carry. Some people just believe this is a coincidence, or that it is
just ironic. This is not the case. People who are in charge of the mass shootings want to feel as
though they have control of the situation, and if they are the only one carrying a gun they will have
the upper hand in the situation. There is a reason

The Debate Over Gun Control
Why the government should not be involved in gun control.
The second amendment to the United state 's constitution says "A well regulated Militia, being
necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be
infringed." Is this not enough can the bill of rights say this anymore clear. Many might state that the
way this statement is worded is the point of debate and it should be interpreted differently. This is
the root of all the hot debate over gun control. Does the constitution guarantee the right to own a
gun, if so what does this look like in our modern society? Current regulations make it difficult to
even purchase a firearm this alone could be considered a infringement of our ... Show more content

UCLA's own campus policy also, "Prohibits the transportation and possession of firearms and other
dangerous weapons on the grounds of UCLA campus, off–campus buildings owned or operated by
the University, areas adjacent to University Property or to activities of or programs conducted by the
University, whether on or off University Property."
In October last year, California Gov. Jerry Brown also signed into law SB707, which banned
students from carrying concealed weapons on school grounds and college campuses.
Of course, criminals don't tend to obey laws, so the only impact of such measures is to disarm
potential victims. This particular shooting took place in the state of California which is one of the
more regulated states on Gun control is the prime example of the failed government gun control
through the hand of the government.
There is a split in opinions when it comes to the size of government and how much power they
should have in the citizens life and there personal freedoms. Would smaller government mean lower
regulations on freedoms in the United States? Bigger government does not mean more protection;
however small government is limited in it 's ability to protect it 's citizens.
We may never know the complete and total meaning of the way the bills of rights are worded but we
can say that government

The Debate Over The Gun Control
One of the most debated and talked about issues going on today concerns gun control. There are
many different aspects being brought up with concern to gun control. One of the biggest this past
year especially here in Texas is the issue of allow–ing conceal carry on college campuses. College
campuses are usually gun free zones, but with so many shootings happening on campuses some
want to be allowed to carry. A lot of people are for infringing upon a person's constitutional right to
life and liberty and self–protection. They claim it will lead to more shootings. Starting in August,
Texas will join seven other states in allowing hand guns on campus (Alford). The people that oppose
conceal carry on campus believe this law will just open the door for more shootings on campus.
Arguments against conceal carry on campus seem to hinge on that it is a different environment
oppose to off campus (Welch). Clovis Community College president Becky Rowley has stated "the
concern about a higher potential of an accident occurring due to jumpy students when feeling
threatened" (Johnson). Additionally, some students will feel less safe knowing there is a chance
someone in their class is carrying. If they feel unsafe and worried that any point someone may begin
shooting, then they will not be able to concentrate on what they are actually there to do, get an
education. This is very emotional topic; of where students are supposed to feel safe while getting

Gun Control Policy Debate
After eight years of Gov. Chris Christie's tumultuous tenure, a period marked by great promise and
neglect, New Jersey is facing daunting fiscal challenges. The public employee pension system is
troubled despite a landmark fix in 2001, the transit system is crumbling into Third World status, and
the public school funding law has never been properly funded. These menacing problems could only
be resolved through a just and able governor who would be able to fix and develop intellectual
solutions to recover the state's economy. When prompted to pick between the two candidates
running in the gubernatorial 2017 election, it is apparent that Phil Murphy would be the most
beneficial candidate in fixing much of the economic disaster left unsolved ... Show more content on

I believe it should be pivotal to stricten the gun law as it would limit acts of terrorism and gang
assaults common in the streets of new Jersey. Murphy ultimately intends to fix this by blocking
"sensible reforms" through vetoing a raft of bills. These included ones that would have kept guns out
of the hands of gang members and those suspected of terrorism, further restricted the size of gun
magazines, and requiring retailers to carry at least one personalized smart gun once the technology
is available. Moreover, Morphy suggests that the new technology of smart guns is one way to
resolve the issue of gun control. Murphy comments, "Smart gun technology would prevent
unauthorized individuals from using a firearm. Only the NRA opposes adopting this technology, and
in following its lead, Governor Christie's hypocrisy shows through..." Smart guns carry the
technology needed to prevent children or strangers from firing a weapon they have no right to use.
It's not going to end all gun crimes, but it will certainly reduce them and can prevent accidental
shootings and burglars from being able to fire a weapon they steal. Criminologists say they believe
many of the nation's roughly 11,000 annual gun–related homicides are committed with stolen
weapons. I believe Murphy can live up to his

Gun Control Debate Report
In the year of 2015 there were only four events that could be considered mass shootings. In 2014
there were a total of 51,811 gun incidents in the U.S. alone. Big number, right? That's probably close
to the amount of time some people text or say like and totally in a day. But this number represents
anything from gang violence to someone accidentally shooting their foot with a twenty–two. With
those numbers we should make it illegal to even think about guns right? Well, if you think that way,
then you'd agree that we should ban any form of smoking, alcohol, caffeine and stress causers. The
only reason that you should think the latter if you agree with strict gun control is that heart disease
killed 614,348 Americans in 2014. Popular news stations

The Gun Control Debate
The Gun Control Debate Throughout the history of the United States of America there has been
debate on gun control. The debate has become even more relevant as more semi–automatic assault
rifles are being sold and the amount of shootings we have been having, especially in this last month.
There are a variety of views one can take on this argument. Many conservatives have been saying
that more gun control is not necessary as it's not the guns killing the people, it's the people pulling
the trigger that are killing innocent lives. On the other hand, people who are more liberal would like
to see legislation passed that would put control on the sale of firearms as keeping weapons out of the

Some may want all assault style weapons banned and others would like to know how a person who
had been investigated by the FBI for terroristic ties was somehow able to go into a gun store and
purchase an assault rifle that he would later use to kill fifty innocent lives of people who just wanted
to go out for one night and enjoy themselves. Although, some people speculate that if someone in
the club that night had been armed that more lives could have been saved, but the argument can also
be made that there was an armed security guard on duty there who was to stop a situation like this
from happening, but was out gunned due to the fact that the shooter was carrying an assault weapon
and a hand gun. The gun control debate will continue on, though for how long without any action
taking place to prevent another shooting like this from happening is something we will all have to
wait for to see what actually happens. Both sides of this debate can agree that something needs to be
done to prevent further lives being lost to gun violence, but in order for any new laws to be passed,
both sides will have to come together to form a bill that both will agree on in order to keep horrific
acts like this from ever happening

Argumentative Essay: The Gun Control Debate
One of the most politically discussed topics in today's society is the ongoing debate of gun control.
There have been numerous studies conducted by researchers as an attempt to settle any longstanding
debate on the topic of gun control laws and violent crime rates however, there has not been one solid
conclusion to end the debate. Therefore, when examining the topic there are multiple view points
and literature to consider that try and explain the general trends that have been published about this
topic. Literature on one side of the argument suggests that by limiting the availability of guns
through out the states it would result in a reduction of violent crime. On the contrary, literature on
the other side have disagreed and explained ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He declared that the most prominent issue in this debate regarded the effect of gun availability on
the distribution, seriousness, and number of violent crimes (Cook, 1981). Cook discusses that gun
control measures come in various forms, but the most prevalent is to reduce the availability of guns
for criminal use, where as gun control opponents insist that this approach is ineffective as guns are
not the issue, it is the individuals themselves who intend to kill. Cook examined the dimensions of
the violent crime problem through conducting further research and examining it against incidents of
murder, assault, and robbery. The research concluded that the seriousness and distribution of violent
crimes is influenced by the weapon choice and type, which indicates for example, criminals with a
gun a more likely to approach a less vulnerable victim than if they were carrying just a knife (Cook,
1981). Also, by reducing gun availability it would result in criminals substituting their choice of
weapons and overall provide a little change in robbery and assault rates, wheres as homicide rates
would reduce (Cook, 1981). Cook (1981) states that it is reasonable to propose that gun control
measures of a moderate form have the ability to discourage some criminals from obtaining guns
however this does not account for all aspects of the violent crime problem; therefore, gun control
efforts should be just one aspect of the effort to find a solution to the violent crime

The Debate On Gun Control
Debate on Gun Control Gun control is such a hot debate in the United States of America especially
in the wake of so many recent, tragic mass shootings. In this nation nearly half of all US households
own at least one gun, and about 31,537 people die from a gunshot each year. There should be some
gun control in the United States of America; due to the number of murders of young teenagers and
those who are harmless. Someone on an opposing side would say that they disagree, because many
people are harmed and cannot defend themselves against someone who is dangerous. Well based on
this incident that was not the case. One that recently occurred where a woman was shot in the head
for cutting a man off on the road; There 's also another story about the man who was shot in a movie
theater for texting his babysitter; neither of those tragic shootings show that the person who was shot
was being harmful in any way. So now we have come to the question of, "Is gun control right for the
United States of America?"
A story in St.Pete Times tells how, On March 20, 2015 a woman was on her way to work, when she
ran into some sort of issue with another driver on the road. She beeped her horn at him, and then the
driver started taunting her. He eventually pulled up next to her vehicle, then fired one gunshot
through her front passenger window. The bullet hit the woman in the back of the head. This just goes
to show that gun Control needs to be in full force, because

from those who stand in the way of their beliefs or financial gains. Whether you believe in the 2nd

The Debate Over Gun Control
School violence is becoming a worldwide issue, but is a particular problem within the United States.
Violence can occur in many ways such as; bullying, school gangs, physical attacks, and fatalities
involved with guns. School shootings have been on the rise over the past several years. To bring
awareness to school violence, teachers, staff, and parents need to be further trained in noticing
warning signs of depression and anger issues which may lead to bullying and disrespectful learning
environments for all parties. In addition to awareness within schools, the debate over gun control
has been a topic discussed for many years in hopes to curb school shootings. Many years ago,
schools were the safest place for children of all ages. Children were actually safer in schools than in
their own home and schools were not nearly as monitored back then compared to now. One would
think with technology that security would have come a long way by now, and in some cases it has,
but intruders are still getting in. Actually, technology has made it easier for violence to occur. By
this statement I mean children and teens have easy access to weapons. A survey that was conducted
in 1987 reported that 48 percent of tenth–grade boys and 34 percent of eighth–grade boys said they
could get a handgun anytime if they wanted them (Straight Talk About Risk 1). Research has stated
that violence videogames are much to blame for this sort of outrage as well. Violent videogames

The Debate Over Gun Control
One major cause of heated debate in the United States is the contrasting stands on gun control. This
one subject has a nation divided on a very serious topic that saves and takes lives.
On the one hand, those for gun control argue a case against increasing gun violence in everyday life.
Those that are against gun control argue that it is in an individual's right to own and possess guns. It
is a matter of liberty and a right to bear arms and a necessity of self–protection. The problem with
both sides of the debate is that neither party is wrong.
On those for gun control, the constant occurrence of gun violence on a devastating scale has resulted
in taking action toward gun control. These are some examples of these occurrences, but are not
limited to the following. The increasing violence with guns has made an appearance amongst
children in schools. Easy access of guns by children has been blamed for the mass murders that have
occurred at American schools. These unfortunate and devastating events have altered the school
environment drastically. Metal detectors and gun attack training are now part of a normal school
year.
Acts of revenge in the work place have also caused mass casualties with the use of guns. Angry
employees in an act of vengeance against their employers have used guns violently in the work
place. A person undergoing rage whether temporary or long term can become extremely dangerous
if guns are available, sometimes resulting in this type of large scale

Essay on The Gun Control Debate
"I have a very strict gun control policy: if there's a gun around, I want to be in control of it." –– Clint
Eastwood Gun control has a history dating back to 1791, when the Second Amendment of the
Constitution was ratified. However, more recently, the debate over gun control has escalated into a
much more public issue to which many citizens can relate. After all, stories about incidents
involving guns appear frequently today in newspapers and on television or the radio. One could say
that the debate started with the passage of the Gun Control Act of 1968, which banned ownership of
guns by certain groups of people and regulated the sale of guns. Since then, two main groups have
gradually appeared: people who oppose strict federal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since 1991, the violent crime rate has decreased 38 percent.2 Supporters of restricting gun
ownership argue exactly the opposite; they feel that if more people were to have guns, there would
be more violent crime incidents and more accidents involving guns, especially among children and
teens. More people in the United States die in a gun–related occurrence than in any other country,
and gun attacks are five times more likely to cause death than attacks involving a knife.3 Those
people who want more restricting laws have good reason to do so, because they want to protect
themselves and the people they know from harm. On both sides of this issue, people feel that their
ideas are the ones that will keep them from harm. Unfortunately, their ideas differ so greatly (gun
ownership versus no ownership) that the issue is hotly debated today. Between very limited gun
control and very restricted gun control, there must be some medium that can somewhat appease both
sides. More laws can be constructed that ban individuals that have a criminal background, mentally
unstable individuals, or minors from buying a gun. Already, a background check is required for all
individuals who wish to buy a gun; this comes from the Brady Law, passed in 1994, which allows
law enforcement officials to check the qualifications of the buyer. This way, law–abiding citizens
can own a gun for hunting or for self–defense reasons, while criminals would have a nearly

been a topic of debate in the United States since the beginning of the country. There are two sides to
the debate, those who think that guns should be regulated more and those who believe that further
regulation is unnecessary. People who believe gun control is unnecessary use the constitution and
other supporting documents to back up their claim, saying that the second amendment protects their
right to own a firearm unrestricted by the government. They also use statistics from the U.S and
other countries to show that stick gun control laws don't deter crime and in some cases makes crime

Gun Control Debate
The US is always at critical moments, from all the shootings that occurred during our history. On

american history. Gun control has a been a big problem in the US for quite a while now, Obama
tried to pass laws in the past and failed. Gun control should be a thing and not prohibited, I stand
with Gun control.
Gun Control has a lot of positives sides to the whole genre. There are many things showing that this
law could be helping out. Investigation found that high capacity magazines were used in at least
50% of the 62 mass shooting between 1982 and 2012. These resembles that Gun control could be
minimizing these high capacity magazines, and having them reduced to small amount of bullets per
magazine, because if there were to be another incident, the people that would be put into danger,
would have a higher chance of surviving, instead of all these people dying; It could lead to a lot of
lives saved, less rounds, less people dead. Another fact that stands with the right of Gun Control
would be more gun control laws would reduce gun deaths, which is very true, because if certain
things were to be prohibited, people that are causing these things today, would actually be reduced,
because they would be less on the resources that they use for these terrible actions that are taking
place in America today, such as machine guns, magazines that can take more than ten

Being that Colonists endured Shays' Rebellion of 1786 through 1787, in which a militia had to be
called out in Massachusetts to suppress an uprising against the government's policies before order
was restored. The purpose of the Second Amendment was to control violent dissent, not enhance it.
At the time, the thirteen colonies hardly had an army to speak of, so the safest way to ensure the
security of the federal and state governments against subversion and the British, was "a well–
regulated militia." This law derives from the Constitution it, states the following: "To provide for
calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel
Invasions" (US News). Throughout American history, gun control laws were set up to keep the
blacks from owning one (Winkler 2011). After the Civil War, the North began changing this. All of
the North soldiers who served in the Civil War were allowed to keep and take their firearms home
with them. Quickly, the South adopted the Black Codes. The Black Codes were basically codes laws
that stated blacks could not possess firearms (Winkler 2011). Being that times were changing, many
riots emerged. A rebellious group known as the "Black Panthers," began fighting for their rights.

The Debate On Gun Control

  • 1. The Debate On Gun Control This paper explores gun control through five main articles. There are many standpoints that take place due to the diversity of the articles used. Gun control is a global topic and it comes up in the news all of the time. It affects society because of its wide range of topics it is involved in. This paper talks about different standpoints on gun control, from it why it should be in place, to why it shouldn 't be in place, to how other countries have used it. It includes statistics about mass shootings and other countries gun control. This paper is perfect for the avid gun owner to the full fledged second amendment supporter all the way to insanely left wing democrats who hate guns. All of the sources are reliable and hold true factuality about this topic. Some come from the government, and some come from other credible websites that specialize in guns and gun control topics. The Difference Between Life and Death: A Sleepless Debate on Gun Control Most U.S. citizens have probably heard of the Columbine, Virginia Tech, and Sandy Hook; they probably know immediately that these names are in reference to mass shootings and/or massacres where firearms were used. The fact of the matter is that innocent deaths by guns are becoming a common occurrence in the United States. Some say that guns kill people, others say that people kill people. Although murder pre dates guns, murder rates have skyrocketed since guns have become mass produced and readily available. Guns ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. The Debate Over Gun Control The debate over gun control in America continues to trouble politicians to this day. According to the constitution, the second amendment gives us the right to bear arms (U.S. Const.). Many different interpretations of what precisely the amendment means exist in this country. However, the two main sides include pro gun control and against gun control. In this paper, we will weigh the pros and cons of both sides and with any luck approach a conclusion on what side performs a superior job. People interpret gun control as the problem, but realistically gun control laws do not cause the issues, however the people that enforce said laws do. Scrutiny over gun control reached an all time high recently and addressing the scrutiny helps find the solution. The individuals that agree with gun control often base their argument on the statistics of gun related deaths in the country, often times they do not state whether or not these include intentional or accidental deaths. They also do not take into account whether or not that the deaths happen solely because of the guns. Guns cannot kill people, the people with guns kill people, but if they really wanted to kill someone not having a gun does not effect whether or not it happens (NRA). Inanimate objects do not ever kill anyone and guns classify as inanimate objects. According to statistics, out of 4.3 million non– lethal violent crimes a year only 8 % involved guns (U.S. Congress 4). Often activists for gun control call for stricter ... • 5. The Debate Over Gun Control Never A Win–Win The topic of gun control has become very popular in recent years as there is now more controversy than ever about the role that guns play in today's world. I have come to be interested in this topic because it seems like not a day goes by anymore where there isn't a newspaper published with an article slandering either the pro or anti gun control activists. Going into this topic, I was assuming that I would end up reading about a lot of school shootings and how it is just guns that are causing so many deaths each year, but there seems to be a bit more to it than that. It really is no surprise that this topic has become so popular as of late, considering that in 2014 there were roughly 51,000 firearm related incidents, and in 2015 roughly 53,000 incidents. If there is one thing that I for sure already know, its that guns have a huge impact on our society. There are so many lives that are impacted by gun related incidents every year that it is nearly impossible to get away from. So the question stands, are guns a necessary and helpful tool for Americans to wield, or are they the merciless killing machines that they have been publicized as in recent years? While researching gun control, one of the first major sources that I found was of course the second amendment to the United States constitution. The second amendment is as follows, "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Debate On Gun Control Guns Do Not Belong on Campus The debate on gun control has been an issue in the United States since the country began. The founding fathers of the nation considered the issue so important it was addressed in the second amendment to the Constitution which states, "A well–regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed" (US Const. amend. II). Of course these words have been interpreted differently through the years. When I began working in campus law enforcement 15 years ago, a person found with a concealed firearm in their possession outside of their home could have been arrested. Many cities in Kansas also had laws prohibiting the transportation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The law defines adequate security measures as: "...the use of electronic equipment and personnel at public entrances to detect and restrict the carrying of any weapons into the state or municipal building, including, but not limited to, metal detectors, metal detector wands or any other equipment used for similar purposes to ensure that weapons are not permitted to be carried into such building by members of the public. Adequate security measures for storing and securing lawfully carried weapons, including, but not limited to, the use of gun lockers or other similar storage options may be provided at public entrances" (K.S.A.75–7c20L) As the law is written right now the four–year exemption will expire in July of 2017 at which time universities will no longer be able to restrict concealed carry of firearms on their campuses. Although there are no signs the Kansas legislature is going to change course, there are some very compelling reasons why they should. In the United States the leading cause of death amongst people of college age (15–24 years old) is accidents, followed by suicide and homicide (Centers for Disease Control). Data shows that for Americans under the age of 30 years old these three categories account for 79% of all deaths, with chronic and infectious disease accounting for only 21% of deaths (Mcintosh). These statistics highlight the propensity for risky behavior amongst people of college age. As a married 40–year–old man, after ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The Gun Control Debate Gun control is a hot issue in the United States, especially recently in the wake of many mass shootings. The gun control debate is an issue that tends to divide people, you either support stricter gun laws or you stand for current gun freedoms, the majority of people on both sides of the debate feel strongly about their opinions. Contrary to what many believe, gun ownership is actually beneficial to citizens. There is evidence to support the ideas that gun ownership deters crime, gun control laws deny people a sense of safety, and lower gun ownership rates do not prevent suicides. Most of the stories people hear involving guns put guns in a negative light, however there are studies that support the idea that high gun ownership rates protect ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. The Gun Control Debate in America GUN CONTROL DEBATE IN AMERICA Gun control has become a very hot topic of contention in America today. What seems to echo here are two words: "guns" and "crime", in a sense that are these words mutually exclusive to each other? Does the use of guns ultimately lead to crime? On the flip side, have the laws in America restricting firearm use been effective enough to protect the lives of the citizens? These are some of the questions that strike the hearts of many when the gun control debate music is played. However, the debate about gun control is not new. Guns as we know them to be are very powerful and dangerous weapons. They are instruments that can be used to inflict severe harm and can even lead to death. However, amidst this fact of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Flowing from my analogy about the big pot, I would like to further present the American context that as we know has two main political ideologies, the republicans and the democrats. On one hand, history has shown that the republicans have for a long time supported the pro gun movement. The reason is because of their intrinsic nature of conservatism, and the fact that they are backed by the national rifle association which happens to be a key player in this debate. On the other hand, Democrats are known to be supporters of the gun control debate. This is because of the increased sale in guns after the 9/11 attacks; hence, they try to cavers on the issue. In this regard, it seems notable that the republicans are on the front row. Now, from my little knowledge of political philosophy, government as a concept refers to a constituted body that helps to keep and protect the basic rights of its citizens, and also to make laws that ensure that everyone in the society is safe. Therefore, the gun control issue cannot be over emphasized for the American government or any other government on a larger scale. One of the questions surrounding the gun control debate in America is to ascertain whether or not the second amendment grants the freedom of firearm ownership to common citizens. The amendment however, seems to support the possession of firearm by the militia. The social perspective has to do with the citizens and the society. In this regard, ... • 13. Gun Control Debate Your second amendment rights are being taken away. In recent years, the government has been working to create laws to ban U.S. citizens right to own firearms. Not only is it more difficult to purchase guns, in today's world, but soon people will have to give up the guns they already own. The government believes this will stop shootings. However, gun laws will not prevent gun violence. The government has banned so many item and yet people can still get them. Which means laws and policies do not stop people. Citizens need to be able to protect themselves and their families. Even if you ban guns, that's not going to prohibit people from getting guns if they really want them. Think about it. Drugs are illegal, yet people still use drugs. Machine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So, it seems that if a policy is made, it is only going to make people without guns more vulnerable and people that get them illegally more dangerous. We live in the U.S. where it is stated in the Constitution that citizens have the right to bear arms. The government wants to take away a right that our forefathers thought that we deserved. This policy has worked for hundreds of years and now that parents can not raise their children properly there is something wrong with the law? No, there is a problem with the way this generation is being raised. This generation needs to grow up and become adults and not dependant on their parents. Go out and get a job provide for themselves and their families instead of asking their parents for money. It is not completely this generations fault it is also their parent. Their parents need to refrain from babying them and make them move out and get a job. Doing this does not means you are a bad parent, it means you want your child to be able to survive on their ... Speakers included gun violence prevention activists, students, and local government officials. Lead organizer, parent and transformational coach Gina Abrams felt inspired by the activism of the Parkland students and wanted to do something that would keep the spotlight on the issue of gun law reform, as well as honor the victims of gun violence. Addressing the crowd Abrams touched on a little–discussed issue in the gun control debate; 94% of mass shooters are male. "We have to ask, what is happening to our boys? Violence is not the intrinsic nature of boys. It is overwhelmingly a product of environment. We must recognize the suffering our narrow definition of masculinity has wrought on our boys," she said. Similar events have occurred across the United States at a movie theater in Colorado, on college campuses in Texas and Virginia, or at the grocery store in Arizona each destroying families in many communities. • 19. Pro Gun Control Debate As we engulf ourselves in politics for the election year, there has been frequent source of debate between the candidates; gun control. In the words of Patrick J. Charles of Britannica, gun control is "...politics, legislation, and enforcement of measures intended to restrict access to, the possession of, or the use of arms, specifically firearms." Even taking away the political importance, gun control is a hot topic that is in every Americans mind as fear for personal safety is on the rise. This has been created by increased media attention and coverage of mass shootings, which seem to occur more frequently as time goes on. This has lead to the question: can we use laws and enforcement to reduce the violence? It shows creating laws to control or ban the purchasing and use of firearms is the most probable to be the solution to reducing gun violence while coinciding with proper firearm education. The event that sparked the modern debate of gun control occurred on July 20, 2012 when James Holmes used weapons with high capacity magazines to open fire on a sold out movie theatre in Aurora, Colorado, and accumulated 74 casualties, including 12 deaths. • 21. The Gun Control Debate Which way will we choose? Here we are again, stuck on the intersection. The recent shooting on a primary school in Newtown has brought up the debate on gun politics, one of the most controversial topics in the United States, again, and right they are. Since year and day it has been an ongoing problem, and the country seems to be split in two, with on one side the people who think their right to bear weapons is too important to let go and on the other side, the people who think that is exactly the problem. In a way, the Americans have never been able to let go of their right to bear weapons since it was admitted to the Bill of Rights in 1791, even when, after the assassination of John F. Kennedy in 1963, the gun control debate started. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. Gun Control Debate As more crimes and gun violence continue to spread throughout the United States, the debate on gun control becomes a more recurrent issue. The debate over gun control has been around for hundreds of years, but it is merely impossible for the people to reach just one conclusion. In order to form an educated opinion behind the research of gun control, the historical, political, economic, social, and ethical perspectives must be contemplated. Guns are extremely dangerous and powerful weapons that are used for protection and defense, or to threaten, kill, or harm. Our founding fathers established the amendment to "bear arms" to provide safety for the country and to protect the United States from all enemies. Gun control is defined as the policies that regulate the manufacturing, sale, and use of handguns and any other form of firearms. This topic is one of the most controversial debates worldwide. In the past years, the debate has gone further into the public eye. Some of the most influential examples of these occurrences in the past years include the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting in 2012 and the Charleston Church shooting in 2015, where a simple weapon took many lives of innocents. • 25. The Debate Over Gun Control Gun Control is a hot debate topic, where people have been divided into two different viewpoints. The majority of states has supported their colleges to carry guns in case of a mass shootout. While the majority of liberal and democratic oppose carrying guns onto school property. Some states such as Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Wisconsin, and Mississippi has already passed the law to allowed students to carry concealed weapons on campuses to protect themselves from unwanted mass shooters. It sounds good when a politician says all college students should carry concealed weapons, but will it have any effect or will it be a big mistake. The majority of people present their arguments that Gun shouldn't be allowed in Campuses. A campus is a place where students gain knowledge it's not a battlefield of guns or place where students fear with their classmates. This day 's people are being irrational about mass shootouts, media also has a huge responsibility on this issue, media has the power to put fears on audience lives. There are many solutions in order to fix this problem. Deploying more security could be a solution, it will also create more jobs. Simply handing guns to teachers and students won't solve the problem of mass shot outs, not everyone is a hero among college students as well, and there might be some students or faculty member who are same likeminded as shooters. • 27. The Debate Over Gun Control Gun Control Close your eyes and relax. Imagine that you are in a time of 236 years ago, and imagine that you are one of the few people that had the privilege of writing the country's constitution. It would not take long until you get to the second amendment. This amendment reads "A well–regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed" (Davis). This amendment has extreme importance, and should not be taken lightly. However, this amendment is not accepted like it used to be, and it is a big controversy in the United States today. Should the public be allowed to have weapons, or should the government take them away? From an economic standpoint, it does not make much sense to take guns away from people. Companies in the United States that manufacture, distribute and sell firearms, ammunition and hunting equipment employ as many as 128,794 people in the country. The total impact that the economy sees from this industry annually is approximately $42,956,599,500 (Dunham). With these statistics alone, it proves that taking guns away would hurt the already struggling economy greatly. It just does not make sense economically to take guns away from people because it would prohibit sales of firearms, ammunition, and other gun related items. On the other hand, in the political side of things, it makes perfect sense to outlaw guns because of the danger that comes with them. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Second amendment states the right for people to bear arms, and as long as it was purchased correctly, no one could disarm them. I believe that having stronger gun control will help cut down on gun violence and will help people from using them for the wrong reason. The bad thing about the gun control laws is that people feel that it is taken their part of their freedom away. It is also taking it away from the people with a minor criminal record that uses them for the right reasons. There is also the fear that individuals possess on the other end of the spectrum that if their guns are taken, how they will protect themselves from people whom wish to harm them. These questions and concerns rise from similar places. For instance, school or theater shootings are one source of the fears and questions. On one hand you have anti–gun protesters saying, "if there were no guns this couldn't happen," and on the other hand there are the pro–gun individuals saying that having more guns would give us the protection we need at schools amongst other places while still being able to feel secure in our homes. What will happen in the long run? I cannot say. However what we are going to discuss here is how Washington, D.C. and Chicago, Illinois passed local laws banning the possession of handguns and what the court said in these two decisions, and the idea of making it harder for certain groups of people to purchase certain types of guns or whether the government needs to back off. • 35. The Debate On Gun Control Laws The second amendment in the constitution has given American citizens the "right to bare arms". Laws have been placed to restrict firearm ownership and rules have been set if you do own a firearm. Does placing these laws of ownership stop the crime or protect the citizens? These questions have been asked by many citizens and lawmakers when creating laws regarding gun control. However, the debate on gun control is nothing new. In 1924, Presidential candidate, Robert La Follete said, "Our choice is not merely to support or oppose gun control but to decide who can own which guns under what conditions." This debate has been brought up multiple times still in modern day due to no one settling on laws regarding ownership of a firearm. Statistic rates show gun control laws in fact do work, so why haven't law officials put these into act? School shootings are happening more; fear is being driven into citizens as they go about their daily life. Gun control laws need to be enforced by law officials in order to control the harm guns can bring to citizens. Do gun control laws work? Statistics have proven they do. Nationwide basic gun control laws are now in effect. Laws vary state to state, restricting sale, purchase and use of guns. Some other laws include, no person convicted of a crime can own a gun, and a person must be 21 or older to purchase a handgun. Also a person who engages in the business of buying or selling a firearm must be licensed. One law that has the most profound ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. The Gun Control Debate My opinion on the gun debate is that we need more gun regulations. I believe we can make gun– control laws without depriving people of their constitutional right to bear arms. Similar to the Supreme Court ruling of District of Columbia v. Heller, I believe there are reasonable gun regulations allowed under the Second Amendment. Why do we need gun control? There are so many casualties in the United States from gun–related incidents. As a matter of fact, America leads with more gun–related homicides than any other developed country: . Below shows some of the mass shootings and other gun–related incidents from 2017: The United States had at least 1,518 mass shootings with at least 1,715 killed and 6,089 wounded as of October 2017. ... • 39. Gun Control Debate Holding a gun, a crime or a right? In my country, China, guns are so strictly controlled nationwide that people are not allowed to manufacture, sell, transport or possess any form of firearm. Offenders are punished as crimes. Why are guns so tightly controlled? The mainstream explanation is that, for the sake of social security, if everyone has a gun, society is unsafe and chaos will ensue. Is this really gonna happen? I haven't conducted any experiment about that, but the answer might be found in some countries like the United States, where guns are legal. Five months ago, Just before I arrived in American for the first time, all my relatives kept gabbing on the gun law in America, including my mom, who had exhorted me repeatedly not to hang out on the unsafe streets after 8 pm. However, four months past and I am safe and sound, feeling it even safer to live in California than my hometown. • 41. A Debate on the Gun Control Laws Gun control The Sandy Hook incident that took place in Newtown, Connecticut has caused a lot of people to rethink about the second amendment and even go on to alter it. A lot of people think that the availability of weapons for people is the reason for these shootings. It now appears that the cause that re started this entire episode which was the Sandy Hook incident will not be fixed by what the democrats are proposing as a solution will not be solved. It appears that the weapons Adam Lanza obtained from his shooting were actually his mother. Lanza's mother purchased the gun in accord with the Connecticut laws. It appears that the restrictive legislation that has been suggested for this state would still not reduce his access to them. Gun control basically refers to the various means of probation or restrictions on keeping weapons with a person. These restrictions look over not only the possession of firearms, but on the transport and use of them. Due to this debate, a lot of talk is being done about making the gun laws stricter and for houses to be raided for registered guns. Even though a lot of debate is going on, it possible that a normal civilian might not be allowed to own a firearm due to changes made in the amendment. Opponents assert that a human life begins at conception, so to seek abortion is equivalent to killing an innocent child. Surprisingly, there is an even amount of people on both sides of this topic, but there are more proponents than opponents by only 2%. Being a female in today's society, I personally do not counsel abortion but it should available for women who want it. Abortions can be very unfortunate, but women should have the right to receive one despite others views about it. Actually, studies show that only 52 percent say they know someone who has had an abortion (Traister). There are far bigger issues to worry about than whether if a woman wants to keep her child or not. Essentially, nobody should be telling anybody how to live their life. I do not agree with extremists against abortions because they harshly judge women who get abortions, calling them "killers", or telling them they will go to hell. • 45. Gun Control Debate On The United States The gun control/gun control debate is a hot topic in the United States and all over the world. It leaves us asking questions. Do guns have a negative effect on the United States? What happens if the US gets rid of guns forever? Will it make crime rates fizzle out? Would it lead to chaos and total anarchy or would crime rates go down? These are some of the questions that led to the profound debate on gun rights and gun control. Gun control in the United States is understood as the government 's regulation of selling, owning, and using guns. The whole gun control debate started buzzing shortly after November 22, 1963, when the assassination of President John F. Kennedy raised the public 's awareness of gun control. Before then, most states did not require permits to gun ownerships and guns could be bought over the counter and even through mail order catalogs. In fact, the rifle used by Lee Harvey Oswald, the assassin, was purchased through a mail order at a low–cost of only $19.99. More leads for the anti–gun side includes the mass school shootings of Columbine and Sandy Hook. However, America 's first firearms policies went way back to the Second Amendment which was created in 1791. This amendment stated that: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." • 49. Debate on Gun Control The Debate on Gun Control The debate concerning gun control has recently become as popular as ever. People question if guns are really necessary. Some wonder that if the government regulates who has the right to own a gun crime rates and death could decrease in the Unites States. Others believe that guns aren't to blame for deaths; "guns don't kill people, people kill people". How can we conclude which side is right if they both strongly believe in their argument? There are always two sides to an argument; the only way to know which is right is to look at the facts. Gun Control means that the government will regulate the sale and ownership of firearms. Therefore, before getting a permit to carry a gun you will get a detailed background check to make sure you are not an ex–felon or anything that could be a threat. This sounds great to many people, but there is one snag in the plan; criminals will not get their guns registered. If the government begins to regulate ownership of guns, it will not stop criminals from owning one. Since 1950, every public mass shooting (with the exception of one) in the U.S. has occurred in a place where guns are prohibited to carry. Some people just believe this is a coincidence, or that it is just ironic. This is not the case. People who are in charge of the mass shootings want to feel as though they have control of the situation, and if they are the only one carrying a gun they will have the upper hand in the situation. There are many different aspects being brought up with concern to gun control. One of the biggest this past year especially here in Texas is the issue of allow–ing conceal carry on college campuses. College campuses are usually gun free zones, but with so many shootings happening on campuses some want to be allowed to carry. A lot of people are for infringing upon a person's constitutional right to life and liberty and self–protection. They claim it will lead to more shootings. Starting in August, Texas will join seven other states in allowing hand guns on campus (Alford). The people that oppose conceal carry on campus believe this law will just open the door for more shootings on campus. Arguments against conceal carry on campus seem to hinge on that it is a different environment oppose to off campus (Welch). Clovis Community College president Becky Rowley has stated "the concern about a higher potential of an accident occurring due to jumpy students when feeling threatened" (Johnson). Additionally, some students will feel less safe knowing there is a chance someone in their class is carrying. He declared that the most prominent issue in this debate regarded the effect of gun availability on the distribution, seriousness, and number of violent crimes (Cook, 1981). Cook discusses that gun control measures come in various forms, but the most prevalent is to reduce the availability of guns for criminal use, where as gun control opponents insist that this approach is ineffective as guns are not the issue, it is the individuals themselves who intend to kill. Cook examined the dimensions of the violent crime problem through conducting further research and examining it against incidents of murder, assault, and robbery. The research concluded that the seriousness and distribution of violent crimes is influenced by the weapon choice and type, which indicates for example, criminals with a gun a more likely to approach a less vulnerable victim than if they were carrying just a knife (Cook, 1981). Also, by reducing gun availability it would result in criminals substituting their choice of weapons and overall provide a little change in robbery and assault rates, wheres as homicide rates would reduce (Cook, 1981). Cook (1981) states that it is reasonable to propose that gun control measures of a moderate form have the ability to discourage some criminals from obtaining guns however this does not account for all aspects of the violent crime problem; therefore, gun control efforts should be just one aspect of the effort to find a solution to the violent crime ... In this nation nearly half of all US households own at least one gun, and about 31,537 people die from a gunshot each year. There should be some gun control in the United States of America; due to the number of murders of young teenagers and those who are harmless. Someone on an opposing side would say that they disagree, because many people are harmed and cannot defend themselves against someone who is dangerous. Well based on this incident that was not the case. This one subject has a nation divided on a very serious topic that saves and takes lives. On the one hand, those for gun control argue a case against increasing gun violence in everyday life. Those that are against gun control argue that it is in an individual's right to own and possess guns. It is a matter of liberty and a right to bear arms and a necessity of self–protection. The problem with both sides of the debate is that neither party is wrong. On those for gun control, the constant occurrence of gun violence on a devastating scale has resulted in taking action toward gun control. These are some examples of these occurrences, but are not limited to the following. The increasing violence with guns has made an appearance amongst children in schools. Easy access of guns by children has been blamed for the mass murders that have occurred at American schools. These unfortunate and devastating events have altered the school environment drastically. Essay on The Gun Control Debate "I have a very strict gun control policy: if there's a gun around, I want to be in control of it." –– Clint Eastwood Gun control has a history dating back to 1791, when the Second Amendment of the Constitution was ratified. However, more recently, the debate over gun control has escalated into a much more public issue to which many citizens can relate. After all, stories about incidents involving guns appear frequently today in newspapers and on television or the radio. Since 1991, the violent crime rate has decreased 38 percent.2 Supporters of restricting gun ownership argue exactly the opposite; they feel that if more people were to have guns, there would be more violent crime incidents and more accidents involving guns, especially among children and teens. More people in the United States die in a gun–related occurrence than in any other country, and gun attacks are five times more likely to cause death than attacks involving a knife.3 Those people who want more restricting laws have good reason to do so, because they want to protect themselves and the people they know from harm. On both sides of this issue, people feel that their ideas are the ones that will keep them from harm. Unfortunately, their ideas differ so greatly (gun ownership versus no ownership) that the issue is hotly debated today. Between very limited gun control and very restricted gun control, there must be some medium that can somewhat appease both sides. More laws can be constructed that ban individuals that have a criminal background, mentally unstable individuals, or minors from buying a gun. Already, a background check is required for all individuals who wish to buy a gun; this comes from the Brady Law, passed in 1994, which allows law enforcement officials to check the qualifications of the buyer. On October 1st, 2017, a shooting that would be put into the books as the most brutal shooting in modern american history. Gun control has a been a big problem in the US for quite a while now, Obama tried to pass laws in the past and failed. Gun control should be a thing and not prohibited, I stand with Gun control. Gun Control has a lot of positives sides to the whole genre. There are many things showing that this law could be helping out.
