This document provides details of a lesson plan for an English language class at the elementary level. The lesson will focus on teaching students about the sense of taste. It will begin with a routine to greet the students and get them engaged. Then there will be a warm up activity where students review food vocabulary by guessing flashcards of different foods. The main part of the lesson will introduce the sense of taste and the tongue as the related body part. Students will identify foods based on their taste and learn that sight also contributes to tasting. Their speaking skills will be practiced through participation in tasks. The class will incorporate books, videos, and realia to reinforce the vocabulary and concepts in English.

3. ✓ Materials
and
resources:
For
this
lesson
we
need,
the
“The
Five
Senses’
Book”,
flashcards
with
different
pictures
of
food
(hamburger,
pasta,
lemon,
chocolate,
coffee,
cookies,
yoghurt,
fish)
a
laptop
with
the
video
file:
The
Five
Senses’
Song,
blackboard
and
chalks,
colored
and
black
pencils.
✓ Pedagogical
use
of
ICT
in
class
or
at
home:
audiovisual
material
will
be
used
to
support
the
exposure
of
the
students
to
the
teaching
point.
✓ Seating
arrangement:
In
a
circle
on
the
floor,
in
order
to
facilitate
visual
contact
and
interaction
within
the
group.
At
a
later
stage
they
will
be
on
their
own
tables
with
4
students.
✓ Assessment:
I’ll
check
the
students’
comprehension
by
making
gestures
and
miming.
Also
I’ll
check
if
they
understand
and
identify
names
of
the
objects
they
see
and
identify
what
the
sense
of
sight
is
and
the
organ
of
the
body
related
to
it.
I’ll
encourage
them
to
produce
chunks
of
language
during
the
speaking
stage.
➢ Routine:
5
minutes
Purpose:
Start
the
lesson,
get
students
into
the
mood
of
work.
I’ll
walk
into
the
classroom
and
greet
students:
“Hello!
How
are
you?”
EA:
Hello!.
I’ll
ask
the
students
to
sit
on
the
floor
in
a
circle
and
we’ll
sing
the
welcome
song:
“This
is
the
way
we
say
hello,
we
say
hello,
we
say
hello.
This
is
the
way
we
say
hello,
to
you,
and
you,
and
you”
(pointing
to
different
children)
➢ Warm
up:
5
minutes
Purpose:
Review
learnt
vocabulary
and
focus
on
teaching
point
(tasting
food).
Materials:
Flashcards
with
drawings
of
some
food
items
(hamburguer,
pasta,
banana,
coffee,
apple,
cookies,
lemon)
I
say
to
the
students:
“Today
I
have
a
surprise
for
you.
Food!
yum!”
I
invite
the
class
to
guess
which
food
items
I
brought
to
share.
Five
or
seven
flashcards
depicting
different
options
can
be
displayed
facing
the
board.
I
can
start
naming
possibilities
(“hamburger?…no”
“pasta?
…mmm…no”).
It
is
important
to
use
simple
cognates
at
this
point,
so
all
kids
can
get
involved.
The
aim
is
for
students
to
retrieve
the
vocabulary
items
that
they
learnt
in
the
previous
class,
such
as
“banana”,
“coffee”,
“lemon”
or
“apple.”
Once
all
food
items
have
been
correctly
identified,
the
class
works
on
correct
pronunciation,
if
needed.
Transition:
“You
are
very
good
with
food!!!
I
like
some
food
too!!
,
let’s
play
then!”
➢ Presentation:
5
minutes
Purpose:
To
further
expose
learners
to
the
target
language,
foster
comprehension
and
evaluating
taste.
Aurelia 5/2/17 7:48 AM
Comment [2]: You
must
include
them
in
the
lesson
plan.

Comment [3]: It
would
be
great
you
could
recycle
previous
contents
(My
eyes
can
see..
/
My
nose
can
smell…)
As
you
have
been
using
that
structure,
it
would
be
coherent
that
you
use
it
in
this
lesson
as
well.
You
can
encourage
children
to
say
My
tongue
can
taste…
4. Materials:
Flashcards
of
a
few
additional
food
items
can
be
displayed
on
the
board,
together
with
the
ones
already
used
(fish,
yoghurt,
ice-‐cream);
pencils,
the
Five
Senses’
Book.
I
invite
the
class
to
play
a
game:
“Let’s
play
a
game
of
tastes!
Is
it
yummy
or
yuck?”
I
offer
an
example
by
pointing
at
a
pair
of
pictures:
“Banana
and
chocolate
taste
YUMMY!”
“Fish
and
chocolate
tastes
YUCK!”
I
name
a
few
food
combinations
to
the
whole
class
for
them
to
say
“…
and
….
taste
yummy/yuck”
according
to
each
case.
“Very
good!!!
Some
food
tastes
Yummy
and
some
food
tastes
Yuk!
What
can
we
use
to
taste?
Let’s
see
it
in
your
books!”
I
ask
the
class
to
open
their
book
of
senses
and
identify
what
part
of
the
body
we
use
to
taste
food.
We
practise
the
pronunciation
of
“tongue”
and
we
colour
it.
