Thinkingback.
Takingintoaccount the experience with the group of 5th
year, I reached to the conclusionthat it
was a wonderful experience.
I enjoyedevery momentthatIspentthere atschool.I alsoenjoyedplanningathome the tasksfor
them.I imaginedall the possibleanswers studentscould giveandeach momentwas memorable
because there wasalways a surprise.SoIfoundoutthat eventhoughwe as teachers can all very
well planned, there are alwayssurprises, andIthinkthat, is the richest momentof learning.
The original aimof the experience was todothe practicum,of course, butalsoto learnfromit. I
can say that althoughI have beenteachingfor14 years, thistime was different.
I thinkthe aimsand objectivesof thisexperience were coherentandaccordingtothe feedback
providedbythe local observer she was very happywith the resultsof the classes.
What ismore I have metheronce or twice afterthe practicumand she saysthat students singthe
songsI taught and lookat the flashcardsI leftinthe classroom.
To carry outthisexperiencewhatwas necessarywastoestablishrapportwith the students,to
create a nice atmosphere in whichboth studentsand teachersfeel comfortable andhappy. The
use of mime, body language and all the ICTresources were veryhelpful. Everythingcontributed
to call the students attention, andindoingso, the classeswere verysuccessful.
I learntthat we can teach Englishandhave funat the same time.WhenI watchedthe videosI
couldsee that studentswere really engagedinthe activities because they found themreally
appealingand entertaining.
Thinkingforward:
If I had the chance to developthispractice again, perhaps Iwouldrepeatthe same procedures,
but I wouldmake upmymindthat unexpectedeventsmightoccur. I wasso concentratedon
followingthe lessonsplansthatperhapsI didnot pay attentionto thingsthatoccurred inthe
classroom, suchas students who were a bitlowerandfor they couldnot follow the lessonas
most did.
Thinkinginward
Thisexperience hasmade me reflectthatchildrenare abox of surprises, andthatI have the ability
to cope withthem.I have alwaysworkedwith secondary students,so,eventhoughIama mother,
workingwith student’s idsdifferent.Iwasafraidat the beginning,becauseinthe observation

classesIthought childrenwere unbearable,soIstartedmy practicum veryafraidof nothaving
patience, butto mysurprise thingswere totallydifferentandIreallyfell inlove withthem.
So forme thismeans that there isstill alotto discover, asregardsmy personalityandasregards
my teachingpractice.IthinkI can modify the wayI teach secondarystudents inorderto make
themreact positively as children from5th
did.
For me thiswas a wonderful experience,Ilovedit. EventhoughIwastiredbecause Ihave a lotof
personal troubles,wheneverIenteredthe classroomItransformedmyself intoanotherpersonI
reallyenjoyedthe time there.
I am satisfied. Of course there isalwayssomethingtoimprove.
Thinkingoutward.
I thinkI hadno problemsin the practicum,at leastnobodymade me notice that. The onlyaspect
isthat some students were not as fast as others, andfor example whenIpresented
contextualizedlessons ,speciallythe day I wentto the zoo and the I lostmy bag withthe
clothes,I could see thatsome of theirfaces were strange as if they did not understand,
whichinfact happened, because whenitwastime to dothe activitiesthey didnot know howto
resolve them.
Perhapsitwas myway of planningclasses, because theywere notused tobe taughtin that way,
so itis understandablethatthey wouldfeel abitlost. Theywere usedtofollow the book, andjust
that. All of a sudden, a newteacher, witha new methodology appeared, andtheyhadto get
usedto ittoo. Those studentswere constantlyaskingif Iwasgoing give thema written testwith
a mark, I supposedtheywere afraid tofail.
WhenI finishedmypracticumI had a little talkwiththe teacher who congratulatedme, and
whogave me some pieces of advice, she alsotoldme that she follows the book, because she
knowsthe studentsbetter, andthatis the waythey “Function”.
Conclusion.
PersonallyIthinkthere isalwayssomething tolearn.Fromthe textbookswe read,fromour
colleagues, fromourtutorsandof course from our students. From thisexperience Ihave asweet
flavor. I will notforgetthistime soeasily. AndIwill trytoimprove asmuch as I can; takinginto
account all the experience andall the advicesIgothere.
