This document outlines the schedule and work completed by a student for their Foundation Portfolio in Media Studies. Over several months, the student engaged in research on their target audience and genre, created magazine layouts, conducted a survey, took photos, and designed magazine pages like the front cover and contents page in Photoshop and InDesign. Monday 5th September Today I deconstructed a vibe front cover learning about the codes and
conventions. I learnt words such as main headline, cover lines,
masthead and about things which attract customers to magazines
such as competitions.
Wednesday 7th September In todays lesson I went through my target audience and I made my
blog page with my aims
Thursday 8th September I have completed the audience profile today with Hartleys 7
subjectives, Katz uses and Gratifications theory , Maslaws Hierachy of
needs and socio- economic needs which was completed from my

Friday 9th September Today we went through shot types and deconstructed a magazine and
went through strengths and weakness in magazines
Wednesday 14rd
September
Today I went through a mind map of rock elements to help when I do
my magazine and I started a mind map.
Thursday 15th September I am analyzing a contents page and double page spread with things
such as sub-line, main image, magazine credits and pull quote.
Monday 19th September During this lesson I completed the contents and double page spread
for my magazine of inspiration and another magazine on PowerPoint
and now I am completing the contents page, double page spread and
front cover of a magazine which is the same genre of my magazine.
Furthermore, I completed my audience profile with corrections.
Monday 21st September Today I sent out my survey monkey a and I created a questionnaire for
people to complete.
Thursday 22nd September Today I updated my blog page and I also started looking at headers for
my music magazine on dafont and I did this in both my favorite names
for my magazine rock block and rock it
Wednesday 28th
September
I have started completing my magazine flat plan using my magazine of
inspiration and I will show where text and picture are going so I know
what the layout.
Monday 3rd October In Todays lesson I reviewed my magazine flat plan so I know how it is
which is completed and I started to complete my location Recce with
where my photos will be taken to plan them.
Monday 4th October Today I finished my photo shoot plan and I finished my location Recce
which planed out my photos so I know exactly when I’m taking them

Monday 5th October Today I started my production plan showing what dates I am doing
each thing such as date of publication and budget decision.
Monday 6th October I continued to complete the production plan today and completed my
photo-shoot plan.
Monday 7th October Today I started analyzing my primary research to see what to include
on my magazine.
Thursday 13th October During the lesson today I have carried on with my primary research
screen shooting my results on survey monkey and I have started
analyzing my results and I have completed my hand drawn drafts and
coloured them in.
Monday 17th October In todays lesson I learnt different Photoshop tools like what layers are,
the quick selection tool and how to add text I also found out how to
use shortcuts on the keyboard. Also, I have started my mind map for
my school magazine such as names and what straplines I can use.
Tuesday 18th October I have gone around my hand drawn drafts also it highlights them.
Thursday 20th October Today I started to complete my front cover of my school magazine and
I have put on my main image and I have put on a background and a
barcode.
Wednesday 9th November I have continued with my front cover putting on my main image and
editing it trying to crop out the back round and on my barcode I have
put social media links on it as it’s a school magazine so it will appeal to
my target audience.
Thursday 10th November Today I almost completed my magazine with pictures and cover lines
and I started to add finishing touches like blending options and

Friday 11th November In todays lesson I have completed my front cover by putting on final
touches such as boxes behind text to make it easier to see the text and
strokes around the magazine.
Thursday 17th November In todays lesson I corrected my front cover going over anything that I
needed to improve it by adding text and different fonts and making
my barcode smaller.
Monday 21st November In todays lesson I started my contents page putting in a photo and
starting the layout such as putting on the gradient tool the header and
a puff promotion.
Tuesday 22nd November Today I started putting text on my editorial and I put the number of
my issue on the page to make it easier for people to know what it is
and it finishes it off better.
Wednesday 23rd November I have started to put on the features of the magazine by using
techniques such as rhetorical questions so more people look at the
magazine.
Thursday 24th November Today I have put my signature on my page for my editorial and I have
put the last pictures on my magazine to finish it off I have also decided
to put on yellow to add boarders throughout my page which make it
more atheistically pleasing.
Wednesday 7th December Today I have improved my contents and Double page Spread analysis
and I have also scanned my hand drawn drafts and put them on a
PowerPoint this means it easier when I’m making the magazine main
task as I know how to lay it out.
Friday 9th December Now I have started to create my main task front cover with a barcode

5. which is similar to my magazine of inspiration which is Kerrang! This
means it is similar rock magazines.
Friday 16th December Today I added my main image with the selection tool to edit the back
ground out as black conceals white reveals.
Monday 19th December I have added cover lines with different colors which cover my color
scheme.
Tuesday 20th December Today I added more cover lines with different colors which match my
house style which is consistent and I added more sub-images to go
with the cover lines.
Christmas Holidays
Tuesday 3rd January I have added another picture on the right hand side and I have added
masthead on the top in big writing and white so it stands out.
Wednesday 4th January Today I changed my magazine and added paint splatters so it looks
more rock.
Thursday 5th January I finished off my magazine front cover and changed the text font. Then,
I added more splatters so it looks more rock.
Monday 9th January Today I have started my contents page laying the images so I can
know where to place everything.
Tuesday 10th January Today I have put text on my image and backgrounds which are similar
to my magazine of inspiration and a editorial image.
Wednesday 11th January I have written my editorial and started my feedback and the issue date
and cover date.
Friday 13th January I have started the contents with the sub stories and some quotes from

6. the pages. Also, have added a sign using a star and circle.
Wednesday 18th January Today I added more cover stories and I added more shapes with cover
stories which is on my magazine of inspiration.
Thursday 19th January Today I finished my cover stories and added a picture near the top
which I have taken. Furthermore, I added cover lines to the top of the
magazine.
Monday 23th January I have completed the contents and have started my double page
spread and I have started to write my interview.
Tuesday 24th January I have added the interview to my page and I have made a drop capital
and pull quote on InDesign.
Thursday 26th January Today I took and edited my main image for my double page spread
using the quick selection tool.
Friday 27th January Now I have created a grey background and wrapped the text around
the writing. This means the guitar stands out more.
Friday 10th February I have added white circles around my double page spread with an
outer glow which is similar to my magazine of inspiration. This means
that my magazine looks more aesthetically pleasing. This also includes
social media logos.
