Week Beginning Work Completed
Summer Holidays N/A
9th September Introduction to the AS course and started my wordpress
account creating the pages and what is to be included in them.
23rd September Started looking at theories such as Katz, Maslow and Hartley.
Relating this to the music magazine that I am creating and I
chose to base my magazine on Billboard.
30th September I created a questionnaire that I could hand out to my target
audience for my magazine to see what aspects they wanted to
see in a magazine.
I also completed my hand drawn draft for my preliminary task
and for my music magazine.
7th October Continued with my prelim task in which I have nearly
completed both pages (front cover and contents page). I added
in all the conventions that I need to, in order to make my
magazine look realistic and professional.
14th October During this week I completely finished my prelim task in which I
have met my deadline. My magazine looks quite professional
and looks realistic.
21st October Went back to my hand drawn drafts and added in all of the
conventions and labelled the key aspects of my magazine pages
in order to repeat and replicate (Steve Neale). I also started my
front cover for my main task.
Unit G321: Foundation Portfolio in Media Studies
Schedule
2. Half Term N/A
4th November I added in all the main aspects into my front cover, such as the
masthead (no name yet but have made space for it), the cover
lines, convergence, date & issue, etc. I added all the writing
ready for the image to be placed in. I have taken the photos but
they are not uploaded onto the Mac yet. Currently I am finding it
easier to work Photoshop because I’ve had more practice.
11th November Started brainstorming ideas for my magazine; came up with
names like Virtuoso (my favourite), Loud, Speaker, Sound etc. I
have also looked at other magazines for inspiration and ideas
for other conventions to include in my own magazine.
18th November I then placed on my front cover the actual name of the magazine
which ended up being ‘Virtuoso’ , I also placed in my main image
which I had already taken. I then edited the image e.g. Changing
the exposure and trying out different editing techniques. I also
learnt some quicker techniques such as using cmd H to bring up
the stencils in which I used to make sure everything is in line.
2nd December I added the finishing touches to my front cover in which I
completed it. I then moved onto the contents page where I
copied over the masthead and played around with the layout of
the page to make room for all the necessary conventions that I
need to include whilst using my magazine of inspiration as a
template for my magazine contents page.
9th December I added in all the texts onto my contents page such as the
articles with the corresponding page numbers, the charts and I
wrote my editorial on Microsoft Word to make sure that I didn’t
make any spelling mistakes then added it into the contents page.
16th December Then I inserted all the images that I wanted to use for my
contents page which I edited out the background of each using
the quick selection tool and the rubber. During this week I
completed my contents page.
Christmas Holiday N/A
3. 6th January I went back to my contents page and change my editorial by
using the pen tool to make sure the text fit around the image of
me (as the editor) to make it look more professional and
realistic. I then added my signature and social networking logos
to the page to create a personal relationship (Katz) with the
readers of my magazine. I completely finished my contents page
this week.
13th January Moving on to the double page spread in which I started off with
a template and using the lines as guides, showing where to put
conventions and the texts and the image. I also copied my
masthead onto the page and added a boarder to my page in
order to create continuity between the pages.
20th January I then created my interview of Microsoft Word in which I done
research on existing interviews done with the artist that I am
using for my main article so that I get the right language and
similar answers to what the actual artist would say. I also used
similar questions to excising interview but I did think of some
new and interesting questions to use to differentiate my
magazine.
10th February I carried on with my interview, making sure everything was
correct and how I wanted it to sound. On Photoshop I added in
the picture that I wanted to use and edited out the background
of the image using the quick selection and the rubber tool.
24th February I added in the title of the main article where I decided to use
‘Life According to..Ariana Grande’ which is made clear using the
black boxes behind it to highlight it on the double page spread. I
then added in the interview using the pen tool to make sure that
the interview fit around the main image perfectly.
3rd March This week I added the rest of my interview into the double page
when I changed the size of the font to fit the page and colouring
the question in pink to carry on the colour scheme from the
other pages and to differentiate between Ariana Grande and the
questions. I also added in the pull quote from the interview and
4. I also made that stand out using the black boxes behind the text
and made the font quite big. This meant that my double page
spread was also completed.
10th March Due to finishing all of my pages for my magazine I then moved
onto my evaluation of my magazine pages in which I answered
questions on the process in making the pages and what skills I
have learnt from using Photoshop. I completed the 7 questions
this week.
17th March I then moved onto the images section in the evaluation where I
showed all the different image that I took that were potentials
for each page and the process that I took in order to chose which
picture I thought would be suitable for each page and why.
During this week I gathered my audience feedback from my
magazine pages where I took audio files of 5 people aging from
16 – 25 which is my target demographic for my magazine. These
were then inserted into my evaluation and I then completed my
evaluation.
24th March During this final week I started adding all of my coursework
onto my wordpress website using slideshare in order to do this.
