2. I am analysing Holly Etty’s blog from 2014 AS Media taught by Mr Fisher. I chose to analyse her
blog as I think it was extremely successful in the way she chose her design and layout and posts
on her blog; these will be discussed further within the next slides.
Firstly what attracted me to look at her blog was that fact that she was a high achieving media
student, I also really liked the style, fonts and image choices she used within her blog as I think
they are very modern and stylish making her blog look organised and professional. I think her
choice of colours are very simple but go well with her night sky background which makes her
blog very attractive.
Representing how colour scheme is consistent and her modern stylish one sided blog posts.
3. The “Drafting” Section
The first thing that interested me about Holly’s drafting section is that she used a variety of ways
to present her work. I loved the fact that she used a down wards selection of images, as this
breaks up the large sections of text and power points which may become tedious for the reader,
this also makes the layout organised and interesting. She also labelled each individual piece on
this page with a large bold heading, I liked this as when scrolling down fast you are able to see
what pieces of information are on the page without having to stop and search for what you are
looking for, this makes her blog easy to navigate.
4. The “Evaluation” Section
What I liked about this page is the fact that there was no text on the actual blog. This made it
more interactive for the viewer as it is mainly videos ( such as her evaluation video ) . I think
this is good as makes the blog interesting to view rather than it just being large blocks of text
which can be considered boring. The only text involved in this page is a summary of what was
said in the videos. I think Holly was very clever by the way she presented her evaluation as
although she wrote the evaluation in her own words, reading them out and making them into
a video allowed her to express the ways the way she wanted. The overall style of her
evaluation has a similar look to her magazine creating a connection between the two. I also
love the way she designed part of her evaluation as a magazine and placed this on her blog to
show off her media skills.
5. The “Final Magazine” Section
This part of her blog is very brief and just consists of her magazine with a small description of
her thoughts towards her work. I think she should of included some more information on this
page about what she could of improved ect.
6. The “Planning” Section
I like this section of her blog as it is very detailed and you are able to see that she has put a lot of
time and effort into the planning of her final piece. All her ideas and are materials are in
chronological order as well as being in different formats (videos, prezi, power points etc) By
having her work in different sections it makes this page look interesting to read/view which
despite there being a lot of posts. I want my planning section to look like as I want the
examiners to be able to see how I planned to my magazine, where my ideas came from and the
rest of the content. I also want my planning to be organized so I am able to refer back to it when
writing my evaluation. In addition I like the way she has included content which hasn’t been
included within her final product as it allows the reader to view the variety of content she
used/collected/created in order for her magazine to be a success.
7. The “Preliminary Task” Section
Similar to her “Final Magazine” section this is also brief as it was only one task. This
part of her blog emphasises how much she has improved since the beginning of the
course, and it is good as the examiners can compare her two pieces of work. Despite it
being brief there is still enough information on this page which enables the reader to
understand the work she carried out.
8. The “Production log” system
This section is extremely detailed and her posts are in chronological order so that the reader is
able to read/watch/view her processes through out her project. Holly has made sure she has
posted every week showing her consistency. Her variety of ways of presenting her production
log enables this page to be extremely interesting, I want my production log to be similar but to
include more video clips and less writing so that there is a equal balance of writing a video
footage.
9. The “Research” Section
I loved this page as it was very organised and attractive in regard to her layout and
design as she has included a variety of multi media posts such as
videos/images/slide shares etc. I really loved how she created a sound cloud to
discuss some of her research as this added individuality to her blog making it
stand out to the examiner. I want my research page to look similar as I believe
hers is well organised and attractive to look at whilst holding all the needed
information.
