Evaluation Question 3:
What Have You Learned From Your
Audience Feedback?
Elliott Edwards
Why?
- From the original concept to the final production, we
were constantly receiving feedback.
- We wanted to be able to receive qualitative and
quantitive data to be able to construct an impressive
final product.
- With the aid of this feedback we would be able to mark
our text as “safe” (referring to Mark Chandler)
Conventions Of Trap
- Trap is a gritty sub-genre of hip-hop. It is full of related activity, drugs, money women and sometimes violence.
- It is a relatively new genre, which idolises coming from the bottom and ending up on the top, through methods
which are not obeying the law.
- It is a very lavish genre in the sense that it is all about the fame and the money. We feel that this will require a
very specific target audience, which our group have been able to roughly identify.
- There is a heavy sense of rebellion in this genre which we are trying to emulate within our production.

Target Audience
- We have identified our target audience and have narrowed it down to as slim as
possible.
- We feel that the area within males of ages 16 - 22 is the best area to be focussing in
because this the age which you are the most outgoing and crazy.
- As our music video is highlighting the concept of having fun essentially, we feel that this
is going to be the the perfect age group
Methods Of Gaining
Feedback - (Refer to notes below for this slide)
- Survey
- Test Screening
- Social Media
- Focus Group
What We Asked
Whilst in the production stages of our music video, we came to the decision that the only
way to understand what the audience will be drawn into, is to present to them, a draft of
our film, so they can provide feedback on what there is to improve.

We created and handed out a survey essentially asking:
- How highly they would rate the video.
- Wether the video seemed conventional / professional, regarding pace, shot angles etc.
- Wether the mise-en-scene suited the music and the content / context of the video.
- What they liked most and least about the music vide and what could be further improved.
Our Survey
Overall Response:
School
- Overall, the feedback that we received wat actually very positive, with only a
few minor alterations that needed to be made.
- I feel that any of the students in my class are not actually fans of trap so I
was surprised when they were able to give me effective criticism.
- This also helps us in the sense that we can now fully develop our final
product with the confidence that the audience will only think more positively
of the video than they did previously.
Overall Response:
Friends
- The feedback I got from my friends was very different, as all of my friends
like trap music and they know exactly what they would be looking for in a
trap video.
- They were, if anything, more positive about the video than my
companions at school, in the sense that they were able to pick out the
very fine details.
- However, they were also able to pick out more errors and areas where we
could have put a lot more creativity in in the edit suite.
What We
Received
- As a result of receiving our audience feedback, we are making a few minor changes
to our music video.
- A solid 70% of the class said they were able to identify the genre of the video as trap,
which has again helped us to mark our product as “safe” in the words of Mark
Chandler.
- For example, probably the most common points raised were:
- The use of too many shots from the same clip
- The length of shots (not the pace of the edit)
- The limited amount of people in our video.
Changes Made
(Disclaimers)
Here are two images from some changes that
have been made to our film.
As you can see, we were told that a serif font seems too
sophisticated for the look we are trying to achieve with our film. We
then came to the conclusion that a more (Calibri) type of font would
be more suitable to our disclaimer.
We added a photosensitive disclaimer and
timed it to be exactly the same as that of the
second disclaimer. We were told that this was
the perfect amount of time to allow the
audience to read it at a normal pace.
Counter Arguments
Although much of the feedback we received proved to be helpful in the process of the
audience surveys a fair amount of the feedback we received was in a way discarded by us in
the sense that through thorough research we could counteract what the feedback point was.
- The two issues raised:
- Repetition of shots: Through my knowledge into this genre and the videos that come
out of it, I can safely say that there are many videos (Rico Recklezz - Rivalz / Ugly
God - Water) which showcase a car change of location with only 2 or three throughout
the whole video.
- Limited amount of people: Again, the issue raised over the small group of people
featured in the video is another aspect which can be brushed under the carpet as
there are trap videos featuring one or two people (Reekz MB - C.O.D / Rich The Kid
feat. Famous Dex - I’m cool) whilst still maintaining the energy of the song.
My Synopsis:
- Overall, I would say that our music video was a success as the feedback we
received was mainly positive showing that the target audience of our choice
mainly enjoyed the music video on the whole.
- This task has helped me truly appreciate the importance of audience feedback
as without it our task would have been the average grade we know could have
been higher.
- Also, I have learnt a lot from my feedback on what the audience actually want to
see from a project of this type.
THANK YOU
