The document summarizes audience feedback that was gathered during the research process for an advanced music video portfolio. The feedback was gathered through question and answer focus groups at the beginning of the project to help determine the direction of the music video. The feedback revealed audience preferences and expectations for certain music genres that were then incorporated into the video. The feedback also influenced specific production elements like the filming style and helped evaluate how well the final video aligned with the original audience research. Areas for improvement were also identified that could make the research more effective in the future.
1. Evaluation Three: What have
you learned from your audience
feedback?
Question and Answer Focus Group.
2. Question One - When did you first start your
audience research?
• Answer: At the beginning of our course, after having decided upon
our song choice, we generated a series of questions that we could ask
members of our audiences. Through asking questions regarding our
song choice, and its music genre we managed to form a sense of
direction which we wanted to take our music video.
3. Question Two - What purpose did audience
feedback serve during the research process of
your advanced portfolio?
• Answer: By asking audience members what they expected to see in
music videos from a certain genre, we were able to discover and
reinforce the necessary conventions that needed to be implemented
into our own music video.
4. Question Three - What did you learn from
your research?
• Answer: Our research provided us with the required information to
create a successful music video. For example, we learned that a lot of
audience members engaged with the escapism aspects of videos, a
uses and gratification we decided to incorporate our own music
video. In addition, we were able to learn what people thought would
make for a more successful video - giving us the opportunity to create
a video that we knew would appeal to audience members.
5. Question Four - How did audience feedback
influence the construction of your video?
• Answer: By distributing and receiving answers to questions regarding
peoples ages, genders and socio-economic status'; we were able to
generate an idea for the direction which we wanted to take our video.
Acquiring knowledge about our audience members gave us the
opportunity to include certain filming devices that would appeal
directly to younger audience members.
6. Question Five - How did audience feedback
influence the direction of your music video?
• Answer: A lot of the responses that we received were from people
that were familiar with the genre of indie music videos. We therefore
received a sense of guidance towards the conventions that we
needed to implement during the construction of our video. We
allowed for the responses generated o be used as a basis point to
refer to during the creation process of the video. The basis was a clear
standing point to refer to and keep on track during the construction
of our video.
7. Question Six - How did Audience Feedback
contribute to the evaluation of your advanced
portfolio?
• Answer: Given the information we had already received from our
research prior to the construction of our video, when evaluating our
work, it was more a task of identifying similarities between peoples
original responses and their responses to the final product. Similarity
between responses was an indicator of the focus kept during the
construction process. The similarity between the video and responses
clearly demonstrated the impact of audience feedback on our final
product.
8. Question Seven - Was there anything your
audience research could have done to be more
effective?
• Answer: Following the final screening of our video, it became
apparent that several audience members still believed that the
transition between the cloud shots could've been improved. Having a
more gradual progression between the moodiness of the clouds
would have been more effective.
9. Question Eight - What was the major platform
used to acquire your audience feedback?
• Answer: Our audience feedback was generated primarily from
interactive feedback sessions between our group and our teachers.
We also regularly exhibited our work to the class, during screenings,
from which we received whole class feedback. Google questionnaires
as well as YouTube comments also provided a format from which we
managed to receive more in depth feedback from secondary sources.
