Introduction to ArtificiaI Intelligence in Higher Education
Who would be the audience for your media product
1. Who would be the audience for
your media product?
2. The BBFC is the UK's regulator of film and video, providing age ratings such as U, PG and 12A.
They are a designated body so have legal powers to rate, and sometimes cut or even reject
works.
When conducting research for the appropriate viewing age for our thriller, BBFC is an
important factor to take into account as we do not want the age classification to be too high
for our thriller. One of the reasons for our decision is that the film will be aimed at teenagers to
young adults, therefore the age classification will be classed aged 15, due to contents of
sustained threat and strong violence being used in our film, which is in the specifications of a
age rating 15. This means our audience will have to be more older teenagers due to the nature
of our film and therefore make them more higher learning students. As they will have come
across more of what is in our film in their real life so is more suited for that age group. Our type
of audience would fit in the explorers category in the Psychographic Profiling table. While also
fitting into category E in the Demographic Profiling.

3. Here is a male audience profile for
our primary target audience who
would stereotypically watch our
thriller. As you can read in this
profile Ben enjoys super natural
thrillers which is the sub genre of
our thriller , and often visits the
cinema. Ben also fits in with our
age category very well for our
thriller ‘Jessamine’.

4. This is a female primary target
audience profile to our film. Jessica
again fits into our age bracket we set,
she also enjoys thrillers with a lot of
gore, which our movie hasn’t got a lot
of but we still have the occasional bit
of blood throughout our thriller.

5. Secondary audience means People that
may exert an influence on the primary
audience, such as children for example,
as a secondary audience has grown up
with thrillers and has more knowledge
about them. Here is an example of a
secondary audience profile who still has
the same interest as our primary target
audience in thriller such as Saw.

6. Demographic information is used in
media marketing to classify an
audience into age, gender, race and
other categories.
These demographics are then broken
into bands depending on peoples
jobs or status. Our Demographic
profiling audience profile fits into
category E, which means
Unemployed, Students, Pensioners,
Casual Workers. Students are our
primary target audience therefore
this is why this audience profile is a
student and is unemployed as most
of her money comes from her
parents, which matches our
demographic profiling category.

7. Psychographic Profiling is an analysis of
consumer lifestyles to create a detailed
customer profile. Which is where this
audience profile fits in the ‘Explorers’
category. The number one reason for
this is most teenagers go to the cinema
to escape from their studies. People in
the category ‘Aspires’ may not have
enough time to go to the cinema as
they will have high paid jobs which
require a lot of their time. The category
explorers means Seeks discovery.
Energy, individualism and experience.
Values difference and adventure.
Typically a younger demographic
(students). Which is exactly what this
student does by going to the cinema to
escape his studies, while still in our
specific age brackets and enjoys
thrillers with the sub genre of action.

8. Some examples of other films our audience would also like have been listed in all of the
audience profiles such as:
Deliver Us From Evil
Saw
Paranormal Activity
Woman in black
The sub genre of our thriller is a super natural thriller, an example of this is Paranormal
Activity. Which is based on real life and is set in a home trying to relate with the audience to
give a typical thriller effect. Two other main thrillers which were mentioned in the audience
profiles were Chucky and Annabelle which are our main two influences in our thriller
Jessamine as we have used a similar main character of a doll, meaning many Chucky and
Annabelle fans will be interested to come and see our thriller.
