I Have For My Remix Project
For my Remix project, I have done the blog kind of think that helps the students what they should
do while they are in college. I have seen so many students in Michigan State University(MSU) who
feel pretty stressed out about their studies. I think that is because so many people do not do the
things that they suppose to do. The other reason I have selected this topic to do the remix on, is that
I have seen one of my friends go though this, I mean he was about the drop out of the college, but he
changed his life style totally. Like, he started going to class and taking notes and all other things. I
have used Storify, which is one of the best platforms for writing the blogs. I have used this website
because I was familiar with it and I knew how to use it.
For this remix project, my audience was the group of people who want to do well in college like
high school students, and other group of people who are thinking about dropping the college or even
feeling stressed out (I also consider some international students too). I tried to make the blog as
funny as I can. I mean the reason for that is if you go online and try to find this type of article that
talks about the same topic as mine, you probably end up with boring article. The article that I used
to do the remix on was the most boring article and it also talks about this type of topic which clearly
makes it much more boring that is why I decided to add some pictures and some GIF things so that I
can attract number of people.

A Brief Note On Copyright And Remix Culture
How to Not Follow Copyright Law:
An Exploratory Essay on Copyright and Remix Culture
As time goes by, the rate at which art changes increases at a seemly exponential rate. Our culture
has more ways than ever to publish and distribute the things we make, and with the rise of the
internet we can reach any audience with a Wi–Fi connection. This digital hyper–connectivity has led
many artists to create new forms of art, some of which have gone on to start trends and cultures.
One of these cultures that has become a significant part of online media is Remix Culture. The idea
of taking someone else's art and making it your own is embraced and cherished by some, and
detested by others. As this genre of media has grown over the years, the line between what is and
isn't a remix has drastically blurred. Some will spend hours upon hours making a song sound
completely different from its original counterpart, while others will simply chop it up and call it
their own. Though laws were once effective when dealing with copyright infringement, the rate art
has grown has significantly surpassed the rate at which these laws have changed. People are
beginning to monetize their remixes in various ways, creating much controversy surrounding who
should be getting paid, or if anyone should get paid at all. As artists, it is important to know what
these laws are exactly, so we can either abide by them or find our own workarounds.
As soon as a work is created in a tangible, fixed form, it is

Chinatown Culture
In postmodern world, digital media has made the access of 'appropriation' much easier and more
open to designers in copying, stealing and borrowing ideas from other pre–existing artworks, but
also revealing unconscious focus on possible rising of culture ownership, hierarchy relationships,
significance of original and artistic copy right issues for 'remix culture'
The "Chinatown plaid" (2013) came out in Stella McCartney Fall 2013 ready–to–wear shows in
New York City. The collection used plaid patterns with bright red, black and white colours
intercrossing with each other. The geometrical plaid pattern reminiscent with the tote plaid bags
from 'Chinatown migrant worker chic' which also referred as 'Mingong bag'. Indeed, the first
founder of this typical style of plastic bag were actually the elite Indonesian families. Elizabeth
Morrell's research indicates the plaid pattern clothes are often wear in Indonesian celebratory
occasions. McCartney's "Chinatown plaid" (2013) exemplifies an aspect of failure in 'remix culture'

artwork of 'cultural appropriation' that puts us on attention on the unconscious hierarchy relationship
between what is been copied with the new work. The plaid is an example of remix of the western
high–fashion culture with the 'slum' of Asian working class culture even though the plaid is first
used as a celebratory artifact in Indonesian culture. Truly it reaffirms the power structure of western
art and their authority of control over the rest of the world in what we see, know and comment with

The Invention Of The Television And Internet
What exactly is remix? Remix is the creation of a new or derivative piece of art through the
alteration, modification, or transformation of elements of the original. A remix is a piece of art that
may have had items added, appropriated, or removed. Remix is everywhere and is nothing new in
public space. People have been doing it for hundreds of years by altering paintings and other artistic
art pieces. The advent of new technology and different forms of media have allowed people to remix
in entirely different ways, utilizing new techniques, materials, and ideas. The popularization of the
television and Internet has allowed digital forms of remix, previously impossible or only attainable
for a small niche of the public. Though Banksy, Electronic Disturbance Theater, and the Yes Men
group have taken advantage of digital forms of remix through different means, the Yes Men group
has remixed public space the best. Artists often put their work in the public domain or space, but
what exactly is that? Public space is just that, locations accessible to the public with the most
general being out on the streets, places accessible or viewable to anyone without discrimination.
They are visible to anyone who has the means of getting to the place, charges no fees, and is open to
everyone. This type of space encompasses sides of buildings exposed to the street, parks, and open
spaces such as plazas. Another type of public space includes privately owned public spaces. These

Audax Syntax Report
This aim for this project was to create a remix or mashup of different songs of our choice. We were
to create the project on programs like Audacity or GarageBand. The intended audience for this
remix was anyone that is interested in music. There is no specific age limit to this project
considering it was made to be appropriate for everyone when making it. The purpose of this project
was to gather an understanding on using programs like Audacity and enhance our skills. There were
many design features that was used throughout the making of this product, some of these include
fade in and fade out, the envelope tool (this helps with making the noise go louder or quieter and
decides how gradual the effect is), change pitch, vocal reduction and

A Satirical Analysis Of Benji Cowart's Song, Rude
When the song "Rude" by MAGIC! first aired on the radio, it was an instant hit. The video told a
romantic tale of a young couple overcoming the disapproval of the girl's father. This story was well–
received by most of the public, but Benji Cowart had a different view. Believing the father was
right, Cowart made a humorous parody of "Rude" from the father's perspective. His video became a
viral sensation on YouTube, but with the fame came controversy. The comment sections were alight
with debate over who was right: the father or the boyfriend. After viewing the differing portrayals of
the father and suitor in the two videos, it may at first seem that the father has the better case;
however, the marriage should be up to the couple. While the original ... Show more content on

The original intends to make the suitor likable, but the parody tries to portray him as a failure. In the
beginning of the original song, the suitor seems polite. Asking for a father's blessing has become
uncommon, but the suitor still asks because he knows that the father is "old–fashioned" ("Rude").
This maturity is short–lived. As soon as the father declines his request, the suitor sings, "Why you
gotta be so rude? / Don't you know I'm human too?" ("Rude"). These lines make the boyfriend
appear childish and petty. This is exemplified when, in the lyrics of Rude, he says that he'll marry
his girlfriend with or without the father's permission ("Rude"). The parody also portrays the
boyfriend as immature, but the lyrics have far harsher critiques than that. According to the song, the
boyfriend is poor, lazy, and a failure; the father sings about him flipping burgers for a living and
inhabiting in his mother's basement ("Rude Remix"). With more facts about the boyfriend revealed
in the parody and original, the father seems to be right in his disapproval of the marriage; however,
one major perspective hasn't been considered: the

The Benefits Of Copyright Aditations And Consequences On...
A major concern is that Congress has not clarified laws surrounding the issue of remixes and this is
leaving artists and content creators unsure of what is legal, even with the increase in artists sampling
to creatively make new music. According to Gabe Levin, a new media lawyer and Buzzfeed
contributor, "In spite of these concerns, the number of independent artists publishing remixes does
not appear to be diminishing anytime soon – in fact, general interest in remixing and mash–ups
appears to be on the rise, if Google Trends is to be believed" (Levin). Due to this, it is necessary for
Congress to update laws regarding Copyright infringement in order to allow artists to succeed in
creating new independent music.

on your behalf. Trying to think of one more thing I could add to end this paragraph. I think it is good
– maybe something about how this is confusing because of different rules from different sites?
According to Brett Snider, to legally remix a song from copyrighted music, there are several
important steps to follow. First, you must buy a copy of the song as pirated music is still illegal
despite how easily it is to obtain. Secondly, you must Obtain permission from all the copyright
holders and thirdly, make a record of permission. "Even if it's just an email, you need some sort of
written record that the copyright holder has allowed you to make a remix of his or her song, "he
writes.
As Brett Snider states, "Amateurs who want to just mix songs at home for their own personal use
aren't likely to run into trouble if they fail to obtain permission, unless there's money involved."
According to current laws, even if a DJ has permission to create a remix, that DJ can't legally play
the mix in a club without the performance rights. Luckily though, for most DJs, the responsibility
for paying the performance royalties typically falls with the venue owner. In addition, the
performance of the remixed music may be covered by fair use.

How Does Faden Use Copyright
The copyright on Eric Faden is fair use because it's used to teach kids about copyright laws. He is
not making any money off of the remix. He is not looking in making profit, he is simply educating.
He borrowed very small pieces of Disney films to transform into a remix. He also cited all the
movies he took, and gave credit to disney. Some people say it's copyright because he didn't get
permission from Disney.
He didn't use their work excessively, he only used what he was using to educate the viewers. He
didn't change any clips he just made a remix out of them. He not only took small portions of the
movies, but he also taught us about copyright which helps educate us a lot. Another thing is the
commentary, their words have different

RIPA Remix Manifesto
RIP: A Remix Manifesto offers a convincing case for copyright reform raising the issues about the
viscous control on the ownership of intellectual property against the free access to share ideas.
Gaylor (2008) is passionate about the ridiculous copyright laws and their ongoing restrictive
modifications in the USA that are demolishing the creativity of new ideas and innovations that these
copyright laws were originally meant to protect. Gaylor (2008) uses his favourite artist 'Girl Talk'
who samples and remixes music, to centre his documentary in an effort to defend the public domain
and its ability to share free idea, along with the use of the remixer's manifesto– Number 1. Culture
always builds on the past. Number 2. The past always tries to control the future. Number 3. Our
future is becoming less free. Number 4. To build free societies you must limit the control of the past.
The first point made in the remixers' manifesto involves Gaylor (2008) exploring the history of
artists who have used the creativity of the past for the inspiration of their new idea; including Walt
Disney and Metallica– who has borrowed previously made song structures from musicians– both
have now become harsh advocates for the current copyright laws. In keeping with Gaylor's (2008)
style, the remaining remix manifesto points will become a guideline for the remaining essay along
with the issues and case study that will be represented on the poster.

laws. The short film he created called, "A Fair(y) Use Tale" is fair use and is therefore noninfringing

In the article "Recut, Reframe, Recycle", the authors state that the four factors that the Copyright
Act refers to when considering fair use are: 1). The purpose and character of the use, 2). The nature
of the copyrighted work, 3). The amount of the work that was used, and 4). The effect on the
potential market for value of the copyrighted work (profit). The purpose of the "Fair(y) Use Tale"

people's privacy". From my understanding, Ghassemi is trying to say that identities are so crucial
because of how someone's identity can be easily misused by the social media. Also, in this quote
Ghassemi is concealing their identity in order to discover the actions that are being made by the
people in the images without seeing their faces. Moreover, they said that "manipulate it in order to

The Pros And Cons Of Rhythm And Blues Music
In discussions of rhythm & blues, one controversial issue has been whether song "covers" of
"authentic" rhythm & blues were an ethical or unethical practice. On the one hand, many will argue
that these covers helped to distribute and promote the rhythm & blues musical movement, extending
it to a much bigger audience. On the other hand, others will say that the covers were just another
way for large record labels and big name artists to make money off the exploitation of the original
artists. My own view is that the use of these covers is a part of the musical process, but this does not
necessarily make it an ethical practice. The act of an artist taking a song and seemingly putting their
own little twist on it to make it seem like a new work ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sampling is when a new song will take a "sample" from an already established song in order to add
a different element to the new song and/or make it more enjoyable to the listener, particularly in the
hip hop world. This especially happens when an artist drops a mixtape, or a collection of songs that
is not distributed for the purpose of making music. There are some A–list artists whose mixtapes
would consist entirely of sampled or remixed songs, Lil Wayne being the first one to come to mind.
In a sense, a remix is the sampling of a song's entire beat and production with new lyrics being
performed over them. During my free write I actually had a lot to say about this specific topic
regarding authenticity in the new age music, especially in terms of remixes. My big question was,
"are remixes any more authentic than a cover?" I would say that they might be slightly more
authentic than covers only because a remix opens the possibility of the remix artist using the same
production to paint a completely different story than what the original artist did. This gives the
remix artist some new, quotable lyrics that can be directly tied with that artist regardless of the beat
playing under it. The best thing about remixes is that the remix artist does not profit off of this, or if
they do it is only when they get permission from the original artist to do so with some sort of
payment being given to

Hip Hop Politics, Class Unity And The Internet
In this essay, the influence of hip–hop politics, class unity and the internet will be explored to
discover how the consumer became an active producer of culture. In the early days of hip–hop,
particularly from its mainstream origins in the 70's (Dimitriadis 2009) up until the 90's, the
underground scene rarely floated into the mainstream. Despite a good portion of the underground
consisting of consumers, to achieve mainstream success one would need the right connections and
musical equipment. Before these tools became affordable and accessible, the consumer wasn't
integrated as an active producer of culture. Thus the average consumer wasn't capable of making
major waves in the industry. In some respect, the mainstream producer carried a sense of prestige
because there were only a few who garnered attention in the mainstream such as DJ Premier and
Eric B and Rakim (Tom Terrell, 1998). During the early origins of hip–hop, as Josh Kun describes,
hip hop was mainly a facet of African–American culture. As a result, many consumers from other
backgrounds weren't majorly included in developing the hip–hop culture. This, however, changed
when icons such as Run DMC and Aerosmith broadened the scope of hip–hop and allowed more
consumers to play an active role in producing the culture. The popularity of the internet rose in the
early 2000's and it allowed the consumer to actively shape the culture. The internet allowed the
consumer to create their own sounds and message and deliver it

Heart Sutra Essay
"The Heart Sutra" is the english translation for "Prajnaparamita–Hrdaya Sutra" from Sanskrit, the
philosophical language of buddism. From its roots, this holy scripture is said to feed the bodhisattva
with the "amrita"(nectar) of "prajna"(transcendental wisdom) and bring him to "paramita"(the other
shore). In other words it is how the budhisattva was enlightened and attained the perfection of
understanding.

Copyright In Disney Movie
Eric Faden created a video based off of various Disney movies. Some people say it is copyright

beginning of the video he states that it is not associated with Disney nor was it authorized, but he
did not excessively use their works. He took what was needed to get the point across of what he
wanted to get and moved on he used very small portions of the video which is a factor in stating that
this is a fair use. The nature of the original Disney movie is there, but it is less important as long as

he did get in there I think that it was more of a talent instead of instinct to not break the law while
making this remix, he also isn't making any profit off of this video. He put it out there probably
primarily for kids, to help them learn more about copyright and fair use to help them not make any
mistakes that some people are making. On the other hand, there are also people that do it on purpose
thinking they won't get caught doing what they are doing, and that means that they would have to
face the consequences, and Eric Faden makes this video, to probably help a lot of people learn, I can
say this because I did, I understand the copyright and fair use laws a lot better now after watching
his video. After seeing his work and talking a lot about it, I still stand by that he did not infringe on
any copyright laws in the making of his video. He followed all of the rules that each law stated and
he stated his sources, giving credit where credit was due. So indeed Eric Faddens remix movie is a

In Elizabethan English, Lord Banquo, the thane of Lochaber is classified a nobleman or baron. As a
noble he would function as "middle class" between peasants and royalty. He would be expected to
provide work, land, and protection to the peasants. (Nobles in the Middle Ages) He would also

Banquo would always want be loyal to the king especially after the witches told him his prophecy
because his descendants would become king and to make sure his family after him would be proud
and have a good life, but the main difference between Banquo and Macbeth is Banquo has
absolutely no temptation to become king. Based on the setting and the time period of 1606 I would
have to assume that Banquo is christian; christians would often pair witches and magic with ideas of
the devil like in (Act 1, Scene 3) "What, can the devil speak true?" (shakespeare navigators).
Macbeth is told he would be king but Banquo is told that he himself will not be king but his
descendants will hold the royal throne. Banquo is a father of Fleance who goes to england to get
Malcolm the king after killing Macbeth. It seems Banquo is motivated and believes in karma. "He
argues that evil only offers gifts that only lead to destruction." I believe that his wisdom threatens
Macbeth.(Macbeth Study Guide) He also warns Macbeth by saying "to win us to our harm, The
instruments of darkness tell us truths" in act scene. Banquo suspects Macbeth of having something

How Does Led Zeplin Define Plagiarism
After watching the documentary titled Everything is a Remix I have realized society's perspective
on plagiarism differs from the actual definition of plagiarism. The documentary discusses how there
is essentially no original content in our world today and that everything is a "remix". For example,
beats are sampled over and over again, being used by many different artists. I think saying nothing
in society is original is very true because everyone's thoughts in today's society are very rarely their
own and have been adapted from a different situation or a different source. The documentary
discussed Led Zeplin as a specific example. The film discussed how Led Zeplin would use other
beats from other artists without making substantial changes. Even though Led Zeplin added his own
lyrics to the beat, it was obvious that the beat was not original. In today's society, what people
perceive as "remixing" is in fact plagiarism via the definition of plagiarism. The film industry also
contributes to the notion of remixing. The documentary mentioned that films are very rarely original
because there are movies based on books, movies based on musicals, movies based on animated TV
shows, Etc. In addition, Star Wars was also discussed and it was illuminated that Star Wars is not
original but rather a remix of ideas included in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Original Quote Analysis
The original quote, titled as "I was born to make mistakes not to fake perfection," from Drake,
demonstrates that everyone makes mistakes. The singer goes on to explain we weren't born to be
perfect. While some might view these lyrics as advice to stop trying to be perfect. The quote suggest
that the writer is held to standard of perfection when in reality he isn't perfect. I found the original
text interesting because a lot of celebrities portray to the media they have perfect lifestyles.
Whereas, Drake acknowledged he's only human and makes mistakes too, even though he is a
celebrity. Another thing that was fascinating about the original quote was he acknowledged that
people weren't born to fake perfection. I choose to remix and change the original version to display
more irony.
The remix and original have similarities and differences. One attribute that the remix and original

reason this attribute stayed the same is that most celebrities put on a show that they are perfect.

I wanted the two versions to be similar but still be different in a visual aspect. I also changed the
word perfect to spell out as 'perfetc." I made the small grammatical change because I thought it

Initially, I talked with my peer named Wendi, and asked if my irony was made clear by saying, "I
was born perfect I don't make mistakes." After getting feedback from Wendi, I decided to add more
irony by spelling perfect wrong. Another helpful comment she made me think about was, why I
chose this quote from Drake? I explained to her that Drake was one of few celebrities to bring
attention to the reality of celebrities lives. Overall, the feedback helped me question my overall

Analysis Of Lawrence Lessig 's Remix : Making Art And...
The reworking and regeneration of already existing cultural works through the processes of
borrowing, stealing, recycling, appropriating and collaging has become a dominant creative strategy
in contemporary art and design, particularly fortified by Postmodernity. Martino Gamper, sister duo
Soda_Jerk and Glenn Brown are significant artists in this 'remix culture' that redefine the way the
world is perceived through the reproduction and recyclability of their works and the works of others.
Remix culture, or 'read–write culture' , lets people generate "art as readily as they consume it" . In
Lawrence Lessig's book Remix: Making Art and Commerce Thrive in the Hybrid Economy, he
argues that the contemporary generation's form of 'literacy' is technologically–based . In this
contemporary society, technology plays a significant role in the appropriation and 'hacking' of art,
music and film making it difficult to distinguish what is piracy and what is creative. Italian furniture
designer, Martino Gamper, takes the creative approach by recycling and appropriating in his 2006
work 100 Chairs in 100 Days. By reconfiguring and remixing the design of 100 abandoned, second–
hand chairs, Gamper explores the collaboration between styles and structural elements giving new
life and meaning to one chair a day. His collection results in a collage of unique design pieces that
respond to their place of origination, often poetic and humourous in nature. Gamper's Sonet
Butterfly (fig. 1) was

Plagiarism And The Law Of The University Honor Code
Plagiarism is defined as "wrongful appropriation" (Webster dictionary), essentially copying an
author's work word for word. The new dilemma, "re–mixing" is essentially the same thing; however,
instead of copying an author word–for–word the student simply rewords the work, and adapts it.
"Re–mixing" and plagiarism, both involve the appropriation or slight modification of a piece, and
are in theory essentially the same thing; thus, both should be treated as such, a violation to the
University honor code. In the world of academia, a student's completed assignment is a reflection of
their understanding of the materials covered in their courses. "Re–mixing" under minds this key
concept, and allows students to excel on their assignments without ever understanding them. This
sort of academic "remixing" goes beyond "standing on shoulders of giants." (Newton, 1676) To do
so would be to take information and the progress and build atop that knowledge with your own. In
this case students simply changing the context, and in most cases forget the information as soon as
their exam is over. With "re–mixing" a student with very little understanding of the course materials
could easily scrape away with a 'B' if they found enough sources to take information from. With
students knowing this, it could causes them to lose the incentive to learn and to focusing on doing
whatever possible to get a passing grade. It is our duty as the SJA address remixing, not only to
ensure the academic

How To Write A Letter From A Professor Faden
My defendant, Professor Faden has been brought to court today by the Disney Studio.
The plaintiff claims that Mr. Faden is guilty of copyright infringement, from the mash up of
numerous disney productions for the use of educational purposes of copyright and how the law
works. I'm here today to defend Professor Faden, because i can prove that he is in fact innocent. You
see your honor, in order for me to even begin defending my client i must first state the copyright and
fair use law. The law states that " the congress shall have power... To promote the progress of
science and useful arts, by securing for limited times to authors and inventors the exclusive right to
their respective writings and discoveries." this law states that any form of an idea is protected by the
copyright law and for anybody (other than the original owner) to use the work must ask permission,
pay a fee, or follow the terms of fair use; otherwise they have committed a federal crime and can be
imprisoned for no more than five years and/or be fined. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay on Music Industry
In a day and age where getting noticed or receiving recognition within the music industry is a
struggle, upon releasing material musicians enter a battlefield. For established musicians, those with
a loyal fan base, recognition isn't necessarily a problem but for musicians attempting to "make it", it
is. There are a number of ways in which a budding musician can increase their chances of gaining
recognition and one of the most common attempts comes in the form of the remix. Musicians,
primarily working in dance, electronic or hip–hop genres remix tracks of already established
musicians in a bid to target and get recognition from the audience of the already established
musician. This is not to say that this is the only reason for the ... Show more content on

In a classical music context the term recomposition is used, whereas remix is more commonly used
to within dance, electronic and hip–hop factions. For some, recomposition tends to suggest the
musician is, for lack of a better word, composing more and therefore, the material being their own,
it has more artistic integrity and substance. Is this always the case though? Remix seems to imply
that the musician is simply reusing the parts of a given piece and putting them back together in a
different way, a process which involves much less artistic endeavour. I feel that this however, is not
the case and it is my opinion that neither term, nor the procedures associated with them, involves
more or less artistic truth than the other. It is for this reason that for the purposes of this essay the
terms remix and recomposition are considered synonyms. My reasons for this point will be summed
up in argument later.
So, why when remixes are so common today, hundreds being released onto the internet daily, would
a musician risk releasing their work amongst the melange of bad remixes? And why else, other than
the reasons stated above, would someone recompose or remix a piece at all? These are both
questions I intend to answer in the course of this essay through examining two examples of
recomposition. Both examples demonstrate reworking another composer's work but they are from
very different times and very dissimilar

Remix culture refers to a society that encourages the recreation of copyright works and images, into
a new creative work. As appropriation, graffiti and sampling have become more evident within the
Post–Modern movement, remix culture is often most associated with this era.
Martha Rosler's Photo Op is a reworked photomontage coming from her series, House Beautiful:
Bringing the War Home: New Series from 2004. She recycles images from different contexts, like
advertisements, newspapers and home magazines and combines them creating a new meaning for
the images; a remix culture work.

Rhetorical Analysis Of Donald Trump's Political Cartoon
All people make mistakes, but some people are never allowed to forget theirs. A man attacked,
harassed, and belittled by media outlets with a personal vendetta against him for his prior claims
that they broadcast fake news. This is the image of Donald J. Trump portrayed by my political
cartoon for part two of my genre remix. Based off of my project two analysis of the effectiveness of
Donald Trump's rhetoric in his 2016 Phoenix campaign speech based on Lloyd Bitzer's model of the
rhetorical situation, my political cartoon focuses on the same man, but an entirely new exigence and
audience, with a new load of constraints.
Before it can be analyzed effectively, the political cartoon must be described. The cartoon itself is

The number one constraint present in the actual creation of this project is my own artistic abilities. I
am not an artist, I do not and cannot draw. Clearly, this can make creating a political cartoon
difficult. When I first tried to free draw Donald Trump, what I created more resembled an angry
bean with a face and Donald Trump hair. My solution, which was to trace an online image, posed
yet another constraint. When one googles "cartoon images of Donald Trump," most of what pulls up
is disrespectful and borderline grotesque. Despite what people may say or feel, Donald Trump is
still our president and deserves respect as such. Another constraint came not from the creation of the
remix, but from the very genre of the remix itself. Political cartoons, though rather simple, do
require some degree of thought to understand. If someone was to simply glance at the cartoon and
not think about it, they might miss the message behind it. Similarly, political cartoons are often up to
personal interpretation and someone might interpret the message the wrong

Life Lessons Learned From R Kelly's Tuesdays With Morrie
The novel, Tuesdays with Morrie, is much like the lyrics "It's the remix to ignition, hot and fresh out
the kitchen" from the song "Ignition Remix" by R. Kelly. Tuesdays with Morrie brings you "hot and
fresh" life lessons with every new chapter that you can learn from just reading and it sticks to you
forever. It's just like R. Kelly's remix of his song "Ignition" where it brings you a "hot and fresh"
new remix that sticks with you for many years to come. Three of the many life lessons I learned
were to forgive yourself, to be grateful for average everyday things and to stay positive no matter
what. A life lesson I learned from this novel was to forgive yourself. Throughout life, we humans do
too many irrational things to count. We don't say things we wish we could have said, the things we
did or said to someone or maybe we did something very simple minded. We all do this and it isn't
something you need to dwell on. Therefore, we need to forgive ourselves because the past is the past

As soon as a
work is created in a tangible, fixed form, it is

Analysis Of Queer Dance Clubs
In fact, Paul Gilroy's (2010) concept of the moral economy can also be applied to the phenomenon
of consuming music in queer dance clubs. In other words, the digital re–ordering music is a
commodity, which is designed to meet the favor of its listeners. So, to encourage clubbers to feel
they belong to the sphere is the basic principle of promotion. For example, the tailored remix for
gay people in the gay club is the motivation that promotes this group to pay for it, which corporates
with the clubber' social experience. Besides, consuming the remix in the gay club is an emotional
choice that creates the moral freedom to queer people. The remix music is tailored for this
community, to produce the sense of belonging. The atmosphere somehow makes

The Importance Of Meaningful Appropriation
Meaningful appropriation remains a vital precept of creativity and innovation. In the last 20 years,
many artists have constructed knowledge in forms of contemporary art from both social and cultural
sources. Artists have continuously remixed contents from certain cultures for new expressive
purposes. It is often deemed by members of the originating cultures, that appropriation in the arts is
disrespectful, as cultural elements become distorted and lost in translation. Meaningful
appropriation however is often misunderstood and is mainly viewed as borrowing that is in some
way inappropriate, unauthorised or undesirable. Although, artists in remix culture have not
necessarily attempted to destroy cultures, but instead offer a new perspective to individuals by
bringing divergent cultures together through art. Artists such as Stella McCartney, a designer
famously known for her creation 'Chinatown Plaid, 2013' in fashion, utilises dominant creative
strategies such as remixing and collaging of fabrics in order to convey her artistic vision, which
highly compliments both the 'Refugee' work culture and female individuals as strong and resilient.
In a similar sense, digital artist Michael Guppy remixes artworks using programs such as Adobe
Photoshop in order to remove central elements from famous artworks, a reoccurring theme in his
work in which he explores both the social and cultural side of technology and how it transforms
society. Whereas, graphic designer Thomas Robson

Hip Hop Wars By Tricia Rose
When Tricia Rose speaks to the concept of "hip hop wars" in her writing, she is referring to a broad
range of different conflicts that are taking place in all areas of hip hop. In the introduction to her
book, she begins to explain her multitude of concerns surrounding certain topics in hip hop. She
begins by saying that the most financially successful hip hop has become a way of caricaturing
"black gangstas, pimps and hoes" (p. 1). She goes on to explain that homophobia, hypersexism,
antisocial behavior, and violent tendancies seem to have become defining characteristics of hip hop
as a whole. Essentially, Tricia Rose's definition of hip hop wars can be summarized as: the pushing
and pulling between the forces of good and evil within a movement that has begun to develop
undesirable qualities. She offers an array of critical analyzations in support and in opposition of hip
hop. One of the more prominent criticisms of hip that Rose points out is that there is a large amount
of misplaced blame in the world of hip hop. She writes, "increasingly, too many of hip hop's
supporters point to structural racism to explain the origins of the problem but refuse to link these
structural forces to individual action and to the power of media seduction" (p. 73). In this section of
the second chapter, Rose is explaining that those who defend commercial hip hop are taking a
more–or–less one–dimensional approach to their arguments by solely blaming structural racism and
overlooking the

How Modern Works Help Embrace the Classical
The tale of Hero and Leander, a story birthed from ancient Greek mythology, is a powerful story
captured through the words of Christopher Marlowe in his almost epic poem "Hero and Leander."
Although Christopher Marlowe was unable to complete this work before his untimely death, his
poem lived on to be know as one of his masterpieces. His work has spawned multiple remixes, each
with their own style and value.
The excerpt of "Hero and Leander" we will focus on is the very beginning of the poem. Here
Christopher Marlowe sets the stage. The focus begins with the background. Two cities, opposing
each other on either sides of the Hellespont (a body of water). After only a few lines, Marlowe shifts
focus from the cities and towards Hero, one of the main characters in the story. The interesting thing
here is that Marlowe does not give much attention to the details of the story, but rather dives into an
intense seen of imagery regarding Hero. Marlowe, an a successful attempt to convey the Hero's
beauty, says "Her kirtle blue, whereon was many a stain, Made with the blood of wretched lovers
slain" (29). Not only did she have many suitors, but their love for her wash dashed down like a man
being slain. Then Marlowe goes on to say "Many would praise the sweet smell as she past... And
there for honey bees have sought in vain" (41). This imagery shows that Hero was so beautiful that
even nature could not stay away from her.
Standing beside the epic worthy poem by Christopher

Johann Sebastian Bach was born into a family of musicians. It was only natural for him to pick up

introduced him to the organ. Bach hit a turning point in his life when both of his parents died at the
age of ten years old. Bach's older brother Johann Christoph Bach took him in and immediately
expanded his knowledge in the world of music. He taught him how to play the clavichord and

by leaving his organ playing position at the church and took upon a new position in Munhlhausen at
the St. Blasius as an organist there (Johann Sebastian BACH). This change was for the best because
the church was larger and located in a city that was important to the north. A few months after being

Information age is the world we live in today it is how we navigate to do everything phones,
laptops, tablets, and the biggest one the internet. We have the ability to control and see the world
with all this technology, it leads us to new heights and creations as technology and knowledge
advances by the year. The best part is matching ideas and being able to build off of these new
creations to make more advanced and proficient media. But as copyrighting laws come into play we
are limited from achieving these things as corporate companies that oversee our music, movies,
media, etc. shorten the pathways to build off ideas that are already out there in society. Brett Gaylor
the director in the documentary: RIP a Remix Manifesto uses logos and ethos to explain the

Gaylor in this film proved to be successful in getting his point across effectively by providing I of

massive impact when it came to the soundtracks from the movie. The most outstanding song was

There is a playful and teasing element whenever Trey sings about making love and sex and you will

Faden Vs Disney Essay
The purpose of copyright law is to protect a creator and their original work from being used without
appropriate reasoning falling under fair use, as well as being used without permission from the
creator. Fair use can be defined as a doctrine that allows portions of a copyrighted work to be used
without the creator's permission as long as it is only for commentary, parody, criticization, or
educational purposes.
In the fictional case of Professor Faden versus Walt Disney Studios, I have decided to take the side
of Professor Faden. Professor Faden claims fair use in this case. He claims the purpose of his video,
containing small portions of Disney's copyrighted movies, to be a display of education and remix.

To determine a case of fair use, all of those factors must be taken into consideration before the judge
may make a final ruling.
When looking into the first factor of fair use, purpose and character used, Faden states his point that
his video is used for educational purposes. When you actually go back and watch the video for
yourself, you see immediately that the video is clearly made in good character with good intentions,
as well as that the nature of the work is educationally based, which brings us to the second factor in
determining the fair use of a copyright case.
The second factor in the determination of fair use is indeed the nature of the copyrighted work, as
mentioned previously. As Professor Fade stated, the nature of his video was for educational
purposes, which can be observed rather obviously. He also stated that his video could fall into the
category of remix. A remix is a new version or rendition of a previously existing work, most
common in the music industry. Professor Faden's Fair(y) Use Tale, may comprehensively be seen to
be a remix, proving to obey the second factor of fair use

Personal Reflection : My High School Experience In Writing
As my Writing 39C course comes to a close, now is a great time to look at the journey I have taken
to get here. I'll start with my high school experience with writing. Although, I wasn't a terrible
writer, I didn't strive to be the best writer I could be. Although I had a decent writing skill, enough to
pass the AP English exam at least, I never really pushed my writing abilities to anything beyond the
minimum amount needed to pass with a decent grade. Once I got to college, however, writing was a
different story. When I came into Writing 39B, I felt it would be something similar to my
experiences in my high school AP English classes. Do the assignments with a minimal amount of
work in order to get a decent grade, and just pass the class. However, as the course proceeded, I
learned that I actually needed to make an effort to apply skill to my writing in order to do well. This
was the first time I actually had to rigorously challenge my current skills in order to improve. As
39B came to a close, I felt that I had actually improved my composition skill. Writing 39C was now
where I solidified and revised some of the techniques I learned in 39B, broke some bad habits, and
worked to understand my style of writing. Working through the Historical Conservation Project
(HCP) and Advocacy Project (AP), I have pushed myself to improve my writing skill. Although I
have learned a lot throughout this quarters here at UCI, I want to emphasize three main areas that I
have made great strides in: research, drafting, and revision.
Research
I came into Writing 39C with some formal lessons on how to research, mainly from high school.
However, since I was taught those lessons years ago, I came into Writing 39C with a clear head. My
primary research focus throughout the quarter was on copyright law and how the current law is out
of touch with the Internet age. I got this idea from a course I took in the previous quarter. The course
was on cyberspeech and gaming, with a focus on obscenity laws and, the thing I found most
interesting, copyright and fair use. Given my interest in the topic and slight familiarity, I chose to
tackle the problem of copyright law and fair use. Starting my research, I immediately went to

I Have For My Remix Project

  • 1. I Have For My Remix Project For my Remix project, I have done the blog kind of think that helps the students what they should do while they are in college. I have seen so many students in Michigan State University(MSU) who feel pretty stressed out about their studies. I think that is because so many people do not do the things that they suppose to do. The other reason I have selected this topic to do the remix on, is that I have seen one of my friends go though this, I mean he was about the drop out of the college, but he changed his life style totally. Like, he started going to class and taking notes and all other things. I have used Storify, which is one of the best platforms for writing the blogs. I have used this website because I was familiar with it and I knew how to use it. For this remix project, my audience was the group of people who want to do well in college like high school students, and other group of people who are thinking about dropping the college or even feeling stressed out (I also consider some international students too). I tried to make the blog as funny as I can. I mean the reason for that is if you go online and try to find this type of article that talks about the same topic as mine, you probably end up with boring article. The article that I used to do the remix on was the most boring article and it also talks about this type of topic which clearly makes it much more boring that is why I decided to add some pictures and some GIF things so that I can attract number of people. ... • 2. A Brief Note On Copyright And Remix Culture How to Not Follow Copyright Law: An Exploratory Essay on Copyright and Remix Culture As time goes by, the rate at which art changes increases at a seemly exponential rate. Our culture has more ways than ever to publish and distribute the things we make, and with the rise of the internet we can reach any audience with a Wi–Fi connection. This digital hyper–connectivity has led many artists to create new forms of art, some of which have gone on to start trends and cultures. One of these cultures that has become a significant part of online media is Remix Culture. The idea of taking someone else's art and making it your own is embraced and cherished by some, and detested by others. As this genre of media has grown over the years, the line between what is and isn't a remix has drastically blurred. Some will spend hours upon hours making a song sound completely different from its original counterpart, while others will simply chop it up and call it their own. Though laws were once effective when dealing with copyright infringement, the rate art has grown has significantly surpassed the rate at which these laws have changed. People are beginning to monetize their remixes in various ways, creating much controversy surrounding who should be getting paid, or if anyone should get paid at all. As artists, it is important to know what these laws are exactly, so we can either abide by them or find our own workarounds. As soon as a work is created in a tangible, fixed form, it is ... • 3. Chinatown Culture In postmodern world, digital media has made the access of 'appropriation' much easier and more open to designers in copying, stealing and borrowing ideas from other pre–existing artworks, but also revealing unconscious focus on possible rising of culture ownership, hierarchy relationships, significance of original and artistic copy right issues for 'remix culture' The "Chinatown plaid" (2013) came out in Stella McCartney Fall 2013 ready–to–wear shows in New York City. The collection used plaid patterns with bright red, black and white colours intercrossing with each other. The geometrical plaid pattern reminiscent with the tote plaid bags from 'Chinatown migrant worker chic' which also referred as 'Mingong bag'. Indeed, the first founder of this typical style of plastic bag were actually the elite Indonesian families. Elizabeth Morrell's research indicates the plaid pattern clothes are often wear in Indonesian celebratory occasions. McCartney's "Chinatown plaid" (2013) exemplifies an aspect of failure in 'remix culture' with faulty recognition of the originality which will effect how her viewers and other social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They reaffirm the very thing they intend to oppose: white Western domination over and exploitation of culture at the expense of everyone else." Stated by Minh–Ha T. Pham (2015, December 2) in The Atlantic. Stella McCartney's textile work the "Chinatown Plaid" (2013) certainly is a controversial artwork of 'cultural appropriation' that puts us on attention on the unconscious hierarchy relationship between what is been copied with the new work. The plaid is an example of remix of the western high–fashion culture with the 'slum' of Asian working class culture even though the plaid is first used as a celebratory artifact in Indonesian culture. Truly it reaffirms the power structure of western art and their authority of control over the rest of the world in what we see, know and comment with 'remix ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Invention Of The Television And Internet What exactly is remix? Remix is the creation of a new or derivative piece of art through the alteration, modification, or transformation of elements of the original. A remix is a piece of art that may have had items added, appropriated, or removed. Remix is everywhere and is nothing new in public space. People have been doing it for hundreds of years by altering paintings and other artistic art pieces. The advent of new technology and different forms of media have allowed people to remix in entirely different ways, utilizing new techniques, materials, and ideas. The popularization of the television and Internet has allowed digital forms of remix, previously impossible or only attainable for a small niche of the public. Though Banksy, Electronic Disturbance Theater, and the Yes Men group have taken advantage of digital forms of remix through different means, the Yes Men group has remixed public space the best. Artists often put their work in the public domain or space, but what exactly is that? Public space is just that, locations accessible to the public with the most general being out on the streets, places accessible or viewable to anyone without discrimination. They are visible to anyone who has the means of getting to the place, charges no fees, and is open to everyone. This type of space encompasses sides of buildings exposed to the street, parks, and open spaces such as plazas. Another type of public space includes privately owned public spaces. These types of ... • 5. Audax Syntax Report This aim for this project was to create a remix or mashup of different songs of our choice. We were to create the project on programs like Audacity or GarageBand. The intended audience for this remix was anyone that is interested in music. There is no specific age limit to this project considering it was made to be appropriate for everyone when making it. The purpose of this project was to gather an understanding on using programs like Audacity and enhance our skills. There were many design features that was used throughout the making of this product, some of these include fade in and fade out, the envelope tool (this helps with making the noise go louder or quieter and decides how gradual the effect is), change pitch, vocal reduction and ... • 6. A Satirical Analysis Of Benji Cowart's Song, Rude When the song "Rude" by MAGIC! first aired on the radio, it was an instant hit. The video told a romantic tale of a young couple overcoming the disapproval of the girl's father. This story was well– received by most of the public, but Benji Cowart had a different view. Believing the father was right, Cowart made a humorous parody of "Rude" from the father's perspective. His video became a viral sensation on YouTube, but with the fame came controversy. The comment sections were alight with debate over who was right: the father or the boyfriend. After viewing the differing portrayals of the father and suitor in the two videos, it may at first seem that the father has the better case; however, the marriage should be up to the couple. While the original ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The original intends to make the suitor likable, but the parody tries to portray him as a failure. In the beginning of the original song, the suitor seems polite. Asking for a father's blessing has become uncommon, but the suitor still asks because he knows that the father is "old–fashioned" ("Rude"). This maturity is short–lived. As soon as the father declines his request, the suitor sings, "Why you gotta be so rude? / Don't you know I'm human too?" ("Rude"). These lines make the boyfriend appear childish and petty. This is exemplified when, in the lyrics of Rude, he says that he'll marry his girlfriend with or without the father's permission ("Rude"). The parody also portrays the boyfriend as immature, but the lyrics have far harsher critiques than that. According to the song, the boyfriend is poor, lazy, and a failure; the father sings about him flipping burgers for a living and inhabiting in his mother's basement ("Rude Remix"). With more facts about the boyfriend revealed in the parody and original, the father seems to be right in his disapproval of the marriage; however, one major perspective hasn't been considered: the ... • 7. The Benefits Of Copyright Aditations And Consequences On... A major concern is that Congress has not clarified laws surrounding the issue of remixes and this is leaving artists and content creators unsure of what is legal, even with the increase in artists sampling to creatively make new music. According to Gabe Levin, a new media lawyer and Buzzfeed contributor, "In spite of these concerns, the number of independent artists publishing remixes does not appear to be diminishing anytime soon – in fact, general interest in remixing and mash–ups appears to be on the rise, if Google Trends is to be believed" (Levin). Due to this, it is necessary for Congress to update laws regarding Copyright infringement in order to allow artists to succeed in creating new independent music. Many people are now ... I think it is good – maybe something about how this is confusing because of different rules from different sites? According to Brett Snider, to legally remix a song from copyrighted music, there are several important steps to follow. First, you must buy a copy of the song as pirated music is still illegal despite how easily it is to obtain. Secondly, you must Obtain permission from all the copyright holders and thirdly, make a record of permission. "Even if it's just an email, you need some sort of written record that the copyright holder has allowed you to make a remix of his or her song, "he writes. As Brett Snider states, "Amateurs who want to just mix songs at home for their own personal use aren't likely to run into trouble if they fail to obtain permission, unless there's money involved." According to current laws, even if a DJ has permission to create a remix, that DJ can't legally play the mix in a club without the performance rights. Luckily though, for most DJs, the responsibility for paying the performance royalties typically falls with the venue owner. In addition, the performance of the remixed music may be covered by fair use. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. How Does Faden Use Copyright The copyright on Eric Faden is fair use because it's used to teach kids about copyright laws. He is not making any money off of the remix. He is not looking in making profit, he is simply educating. He borrowed very small pieces of Disney films to transform into a remix. He also cited all the movies he took, and gave credit to disney. Some people say it's copyright because he didn't get permission from Disney. He didn't use their work excessively, he only used what he was using to educate the viewers. He didn't change any clips he just made a remix out of them. He not only took small portions of the movies, but he also taught us about copyright which helps educate us a lot. • 9. RIPA Remix Manifesto RIP: A Remix Manifesto offers a convincing case for copyright reform raising the issues about the viscous control on the ownership of intellectual property against the free access to share ideas. Gaylor (2008) is passionate about the ridiculous copyright laws and their ongoing restrictive modifications in the USA that are demolishing the creativity of new ideas and innovations that these copyright laws were originally meant to protect. Gaylor (2008) uses his favourite artist 'Girl Talk' who samples and remixes music, to centre his documentary in an effort to defend the public domain and its ability to share free idea, along with the use of the remixer's manifesto– Number 1. Culture always builds on the past. Number 2. The past always tries to control the future. Number 3. Our future is becoming less free. Number 4. To build free societies you must limit the control of the past. The first point made in the remixers' manifesto involves Gaylor (2008) exploring the history of artists who have used the creativity of the past for the inspiration of their new idea; including Walt Disney and Metallica– who has borrowed previously made song structures from musicians– both have now become harsh advocates for the current copyright laws. In keeping with Gaylor's (2008) style, the remaining remix manifesto points will become a guideline for the remaining essay along with the issues and case study that will be represented on the poster. • 10. Recut Reframe Recycle Case Study I am on the Defendant's side of the case. Professor Eric S. Faden did not break any of the copyright laws. The short film he created called, "A Fair(y) Use Tale" is fair use and is therefore noninfringing at all. In the article "Recut, Reframe, Recycle", the authors state that the four factors that the Copyright Act refers to when considering fair use are: 1). The purpose and character of the use, 2). The nature of the copyrighted work, 3). The amount of the work that was used, and 4). The effect on the potential market for value of the copyrighted work (profit). The purpose of the "Fair(y) Use Tale" remix film was intended for entertainment and educate viewers about copyright and fair use principles. The film was noncommercial, creative ... From my understanding, Ghassemi is trying to say that identities are so crucial because of how someone's identity can be easily misused by the social media. Also, in this quote Ghassemi is concealing their identity in order to discover the actions that are being made by the people in the images without seeing their faces. • 12. The Pros And Cons Of Rhythm And Blues Music In discussions of rhythm & blues, one controversial issue has been whether song "covers" of "authentic" rhythm & blues were an ethical or unethical practice. On the one hand, many will argue that these covers helped to distribute and promote the rhythm & blues musical movement, extending it to a much bigger audience. On the other hand, others will say that the covers were just another way for large record labels and big name artists to make money off the exploitation of the original artists. My own view is that the use of these covers is a part of the musical process, but this does not necessarily make it an ethical practice. The act of an artist taking a song and seemingly putting their own little twist on it to make it seem like a new work ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sampling is when a new song will take a "sample" from an already established song in order to add a different element to the new song and/or make it more enjoyable to the listener, particularly in the hip hop world. This especially happens when an artist drops a mixtape, or a collection of songs that is not distributed for the purpose of making music. There are some A–list artists whose mixtapes would consist entirely of sampled or remixed songs, Lil Wayne being the first one to come to mind. In a sense, a remix is the sampling of a song's entire beat and production with new lyrics being performed over them. During my free write I actually had a lot to say about this specific topic regarding authenticity in the new age music, especially in terms of remixes. My big question was, "are remixes any more authentic than a cover?" I would say that they might be slightly more authentic than covers only because a remix opens the possibility of the remix artist using the same production to paint a completely different story than what the original artist did. This gives the remix artist some new, quotable lyrics that can be directly tied with that artist regardless of the beat playing under it. The best thing about remixes is that the remix artist does not profit off of this, or if they do it is only when they get permission from the original artist to do so with some sort of payment being given to ... In the early days of hip–hop, particularly from its mainstream origins in the 70's (Dimitriadis 2009) up until the 90's, the underground scene rarely floated into the mainstream. Despite a good portion of the underground consisting of consumers, to achieve mainstream success one would need the right connections and musical equipment. Before these tools became affordable and accessible, the consumer wasn't integrated as an active producer of culture. Thus the average consumer wasn't capable of making major waves in the industry. In some respect, the mainstream producer carried a sense of prestige because there were only a few who garnered attention in the mainstream such as DJ Premier and Eric B and Rakim (Tom Terrell, 1998). During the early origins of hip–hop, as Josh Kun describes, hip hop was mainly a facet of African–American culture. As a result, many consumers from other backgrounds weren't majorly included in developing the hip–hop culture. This, however, changed when icons such as Run DMC and Aerosmith broadened the scope of hip–hop and allowed more consumers to play an active role in producing the culture. The popularity of the internet rose in the early 2000's and it allowed the consumer to actively shape the culture. The internet allowed the consumer to create their own sounds and message and deliver it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

From its roots, this holy scripture is said to feed the bodhisattva with the "amrita"(nectar) of "prajna"(transcendental wisdom) and bring him to "paramita"(the other shore). In other words it is how the budhisattva was enlightened and attained the perfection of understanding. Apprently, in Japan and China this text has 28 different interpretations. My question is why Hatsune Miku is there? Maybe because it was funny to put her in this situation or maybe it was because it was funny to make sing Heart Sutra to a vocaloid. I don't really know what Kukai reaction would be if he see this video... I think he will be mad about it, because it's direspectful for all the time he have spent into understanding this text in a thoughtful way. Some people say it is copyright infringement some think otherwise, I do not think that his works do not infringe on anything. At the beginning of the video he states that it is not associated with Disney nor was it authorized, but he did not excessively use their works. He took what was needed to get the point across of what he wanted to get and moved on he used very small portions of the video which is a factor in stating that this is a fair use. He put it out there probably primarily for kids, to help them learn more about copyright and fair use to help them not make any mistakes that some people are making. On the other hand, there are also people that do it on purpose thinking they won't get caught doing what they are doing, and that means that they would have to face the consequences, and Eric Faden makes this video, to probably help a lot of people learn, I can say this because I did, I understand the copyright and fair use laws a lot better now after watching his video. After seeing his work and talking a lot about it, I still stand by that he did not infringe on any copyright laws in the making of his video. Who Is Banquo In Macbeth Banquo's character has a significant role in Macbeth because hes is the foil to Macbeth, he enhances Macbeth's actions by being the complete opposite but shares qualities with Macbeth. (Macbeth Essay | The Role of Banquo in Macbeth) In Elizabethan English, Lord Banquo, the thane of Lochaber is classified a nobleman or baron. As a noble he would function as "middle class" between peasants and royalty. He would be expected to provide work, land, and protection to the peasants. Based on the setting and the time period of 1606 I would have to assume that Banquo is christian; christians would often pair witches and magic with ideas of the devil like in (Act 1, Scene 3) "What, can the devil speak true?" (shakespeare navigators). Macbeth is told he would be king but Banquo is told that he himself will not be king but his descendants will hold the royal throne. • 17. How Does Led Zeplin Define Plagiarism After watching the documentary titled Everything is a Remix I have realized society's perspective on plagiarism differs from the actual definition of plagiarism. The documentary discusses how there is essentially no original content in our world today and that everything is a "remix". For example, beats are sampled over and over again, being used by many different artists. I think saying nothing in society is original is very true because everyone's thoughts in today's society are very rarely their own and have been adapted from a different situation or a different source. The documentary discussed Led Zeplin as a specific example. The film discussed how Led Zeplin would use other beats from other artists without making substantial changes. Even though Led Zeplin added his own lyrics to the beat, it was obvious that the beat was not original. In today's society, what people perceive as "remixing" is in fact plagiarism via the definition of plagiarism. The film industry also contributes to the notion of remixing. The documentary mentioned that films are very rarely original because there are movies based on books, movies based on musicals, movies based on animated TV shows, Etc. The reworking and regeneration of already existing cultural works through the processes of borrowing, stealing, recycling, appropriating and collaging has become a dominant creative strategy in contemporary art and design, particularly fortified by Postmodernity. Martino Gamper, sister duo Soda_Jerk and Glenn Brown are significant artists in this 'remix culture' that redefine the way the world is perceived through the reproduction and recyclability of their works and the works of others. Remix culture, or 'read–write culture' , lets people generate "art as readily as they consume it" . In Lawrence Lessig's book Remix: Making Art and Commerce Thrive in the Hybrid Economy, he argues that the contemporary generation's form of 'literacy' is technologically–based . In this contemporary society, technology plays a significant role in the appropriation and 'hacking' of art, music and film making it difficult to distinguish what is piracy and what is creative. Italian furniture designer, Martino Gamper, takes the creative approach by recycling and appropriating in his 2006 work 100 Chairs in 100 Days. By reconfiguring and remixing the design of 100 abandoned, second– hand chairs, Gamper explores the collaboration between styles and structural elements giving new life and meaning to one chair a day. The new dilemma, "re–mixing" is essentially the same thing; however, instead of copying an author word–for–word the student simply rewords the work, and adapts it. "Re–mixing" and plagiarism, both involve the appropriation or slight modification of a piece, and are in theory essentially the same thing; thus, both should be treated as such, a violation to the University honor code. In the world of academia, a student's completed assignment is a reflection of their understanding of the materials covered in their courses. "Re–mixing" under minds this key concept, and allows students to excel on their assignments without ever understanding them. This sort of academic "remixing" goes beyond "standing on shoulders of giants." (Newton, 1676) To do so would be to take information and the progress and build atop that knowledge with your own. In this case students simply changing the context, and in most cases forget the information as soon as their exam is over. With "re–mixing" a student with very little understanding of the course materials could easily scrape away with a 'B' if they found enough sources to take information from. With students knowing this, it could causes them to lose the incentive to learn and to focusing on doing whatever possible to get a passing grade. There are a number of ways in which a budding musician can increase their chances of gaining recognition and one of the most common attempts comes in the form of the remix. For some, recomposition tends to suggest the musician is, for lack of a better word, composing more and therefore, the material being their own, it has more artistic integrity and substance. Is this always the case though? Remix seems to imply that the musician is simply reusing the parts of a given piece and putting them back together in a different way, a process which involves much less artistic endeavour. I feel that this however, is not the case and it is my opinion that neither term, nor the procedures associated with them, involves more or less artistic truth than the other. It is for this reason that for the purposes of this essay the terms remix and recomposition are considered synonyms. My reasons for this point will be summed up in argument later. So, why when remixes are so common today, hundreds being released onto the internet daily, would a musician risk releasing their work amongst the melange of bad remixes? And why else, other than the reasons stated above, would someone recompose or remix a piece at all? How to Not Follow Copyright Law: An Exploratory Essay on Copyright and Remix Culture As time goes by, the rate at which art changes increases at a seemly exponential rate. • 32. The Importance Of Meaningful Appropriation Meaningful appropriation remains a vital precept of creativity and innovation. In the last 20 years, many artists have constructed knowledge in forms of contemporary art from both social and cultural sources. Artists have continuously remixed contents from certain cultures for new expressive purposes. It is often deemed by members of the originating cultures, that appropriation in the arts is disrespectful, as cultural elements become distorted and lost in translation. Meaningful appropriation however is often misunderstood and is mainly viewed as borrowing that is in some way inappropriate, unauthorised or undesirable. Although, artists in remix culture have not necessarily attempted to destroy cultures, but instead offer a new perspective to individuals by bringing divergent cultures together through art. Artists such as Stella McCartney, a designer famously known for her creation 'Chinatown Plaid, 2013' in fashion, utilises dominant creative strategies such as remixing and collaging of fabrics in order to convey her artistic vision, which highly compliments both the 'Refugee' work culture and female individuals as strong and resilient. She begins by saying that the most financially successful hip hop has become a way of caricaturing "black gangstas, pimps and hoes" (p. 1). She goes on to explain that homophobia, hypersexism, antisocial behavior, and violent tendancies seem to have become defining characteristics of hip hop as a whole. One of the more prominent criticisms of hip that Rose points out is that there is a large amount of misplaced blame in the world of hip hop. She writes, "increasingly, too many of hip hop's supporters point to structural racism to explain the origins of the problem but refuse to link these structural forces to individual action and to the power of media seduction" (p. 73). In this section of the second chapter, Rose is explaining that those who defend commercial hip hop are taking a more–or–less one–dimensional approach to their arguments by solely blaming structural racism and overlooking the ... • 34. How Modern Works Help Embrace the Classical The tale of Hero and Leander, a story birthed from ancient Greek mythology, is a powerful story captured through the words of Christopher Marlowe in his almost epic poem "Hero and Leander." Although Christopher Marlowe was unable to complete this work before his untimely death, his poem lived on to be know as one of his masterpieces. His work has spawned multiple remixes, each with their own style and value. The excerpt of "Hero and Leander" we will focus on is the very beginning of the poem. Here Christopher Marlowe sets the stage. The focus begins with the background. Two cities, opposing each other on either sides of the Hellespont (a body of water). After only a few lines, Marlowe shifts focus from the cities and towards Hero, one of the main characters in the story. The interesting thing here is that Marlowe does not give much attention to the details of the story, but rather dives into an intense seen of imagery regarding Hero. Marlowe, an a successful attempt to convey the Hero's beauty, says "Her kirtle blue, whereon was many a stain, Made with the blood of wretched lovers slain" (29). Not only did she have many suitors, but their love for her wash dashed down like a man being slain. Then Marlowe goes on to say "Many would praise the sweet smell as she past... And there for honey bees have sought in vain" (41). This imagery shows that Hero was so beautiful that even nature could not stay away from her. A few years after playing for the church, Bach made a visit to Dieterich Buxtehude in Lubeck. This visit reinforced Bach's style in music with the works he has made. In 1706 Bach decided that he wanted to further his career in music and made the first change by leaving his organ playing position at the church and took upon a new position in Munhlhausen at the St. Blasius as an organist there (Johann Sebastian BACH). This change was for the best because the church was larger and located in a city that was important to the north. A few months after being an organist at the St. Blasius church he married his second cousin Maria Barbara Bach. After a year of Bach being a organist for St. Blasius, he was offered a better position in Weimar. Bach took the offer with pride and became their new court organist and concertmaster at the ducal court. Johann and Maria Bach decided to start their family, after their first born child, Marias unwed sister moved into their home to help with raising their children. Now, this song has an enormously great remix by one of our generation's greatest sex symbols, Trey Songz. I prefer to call this one, "Fifty Shades of Trey," I think it has a creatively nice ring to it. Every bit of this song is as captivating as the original. Some will even be inclined to say that it's even better. Personally I think they are both incredible and picking a favorite is impossible. Trey Songz brings the exceptional factors about his vocals and he lets them take the lead on this one. Where the pitch must be high, it is perfectly elevated, when it must be calm, he contains it and everything is beautiful. • 38. Faden Vs Disney Essay The purpose of copyright law is to protect a creator and their original work from being used without appropriate reasoning falling under fair use, as well as being used without permission from the creator. Fair use can be defined as a doctrine that allows portions of a copyrighted work to be used without the creator's permission as long as it is only for commentary, parody, criticization, or educational purposes. In the fictional case of Professor Faden versus Walt Disney Studios, I have decided to take the side of Professor Faden. Professor Faden claims fair use in this case. He claims the purpose of his video, containing small portions of Disney's copyrighted movies, to be a display of education and remix. Those two, do, in fact, fall under ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To determine a case of fair use, all of those factors must be taken into consideration before the judge may make a final ruling. When looking into the first factor of fair use, purpose and character used, Faden states his point that his video is used for educational purposes. When you actually go back and watch the video for yourself, you see immediately that the video is clearly made in good character with good intentions, as well as that the nature of the work is educationally based, which brings us to the second factor in determining the fair use of a copyright case. The second factor in the determination of fair use is indeed the nature of the copyrighted work, as mentioned previously. As Professor Fade stated, the nature of his video was for educational purposes, which can be observed rather obviously. He also stated that his video could fall into the category of remix. A remix is a new version or rendition of a previously existing work, most common in the music industry. Professor Faden's Fair(y) Use Tale, may comprehensively be seen to be a remix, proving to obey the second factor of fair use ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Personal Reflection : My High School Experience In Writing As my Writing 39C course comes to a close, now is a great time to look at the journey I have taken to get here. I'll start with my high school experience with writing. Although, I wasn't a terrible writer, I didn't strive to be the best writer I could be. Although I had a decent writing skill, enough to pass the AP English exam at least, I never really pushed my writing abilities to anything beyond the minimum amount needed to pass with a decent grade. Once I got to college, however, writing was a different story. When I came into Writing 39B, I felt it would be something similar to my experiences in my high school AP English classes. Do the assignments with a minimal amount of work in order to get a decent grade, and just pass the class. However, as the course proceeded, I learned that I actually needed to make an effort to apply skill to my writing in order to do well. This was the first time I actually had to rigorously challenge my current skills in order to improve. As 39B came to a close, I felt that I had actually improved my composition skill. Writing 39C was now where I solidified and revised some of the techniques I learned in 39B, broke some bad habits, and worked to understand my style of writing. Working through the Historical Conservation Project (HCP) and Advocacy Project (AP), I have pushed myself to improve my writing skill. Although I have learned a lot throughout this quarters here at UCI, I want to emphasize three main areas that I have made great strides in: research, drafting, and revision. Research I came into Writing 39C with some formal lessons on how to research, mainly from high school. However, since I was taught those lessons years ago, I came into Writing 39C with a clear head. My primary research focus throughout the quarter was on copyright law and how the current law is out of touch with the Internet age. I got this idea from a course I took in the previous quarter. The course was on cyberspeech and gaming, with a focus on obscenity laws and, the thing I found most interesting, copyright and fair use. Given my interest in the topic and slight familiarity, I chose to tackle the problem of copyright law and fair use. Starting my research, I immediately went to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
