Cold Injury Research Paper
Non Freezing Cold Injury also known as trench foot, is a condition caused by prolonged exposure to cold, wet, and unsanitary conditions. It causes
the foot to become nub, due to a lose of blood flow to the feet. Trench Foot originates back to 1812 with Napoleon's Army, however Trench Foot is
most commonly associate with World War I TrenchFoot is caused by prolonged exposure to cold, wet unsanitary conditions. Trench Foot can develop
with less than a day in these conditions. The blood flow lessens in an attempt to keep the body temperature regulated. This reduces the amount of
nutrients and oxygen to the feet, resulting in nerve and tissue damage. It is most commonly seen in builders Hiker, security guards, campers. During
the 1998 Glastonbury music festival, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the symptoms continue tissue and nerve damage, causing swelling increases and a constant feeling of pins and needles sensation develops. In brutal
cases, ulcers and blisters evolve, the skin begins to peel off and the tissue dies, resulting in gangrene. Gangrene can spread quickly throughout the body,
it is very serious and potentially life threatening condition if not treated quickly. Treatment of Trench Foot includes thoroughly cleaning and drying the
feet, then gently re–warming the feet to improve circulation, after a potassium permanganate foot bath is used to draw fluid out of the affected area.
In severe cases, if the first three steps do not work, amputation is needed to stop the spread of gangrene to the rest of the body.
Trench Foot takes approximately three to six months to heal. As it begins to heal, swelling reduces and the foot color goes back to normal. During
recovery temporary sever pain can be caused by forming blisters as the tissues warm feeling returns. Itching, pins and needles, excessive sweating and
cold sensitivity can be an ongoing problem for several

Rhetorical Devices In The Onion
Studies show that there the word gullible written on the ceiling above. In the article, The Onion, the writer talks about how people are gullible and
fall for commercials. In the article the author used certain rhetoric devices that other commercials would use to make their product to seem legit.
Barry, who wrote a mock press release that was published by The Onion claims that people who fall for ridicules commercials are fools by usingethos,
imagery, and pathos. In the effort to appeal to credibility, the writer for The Onion utilizes ethos. The author talks about "real" scientist to boost the
product. "What makes MagnaSoles different from other insoles is the way it harnesses the power of magnetisms to properly align the biomagnetic field
around your foot," said Dr. Arthur Bluni, the pseudoscientist who developed the product for Massillon–based Integrated Products." When the author
uses examples like this, we are just getting lied to and hopefully influenced. What is really happening is they are saying lies and talks about how these
"scientist" are suggested their products. The author gives credibility to science and how their product heals them. "Special resonator nodules implanted
at key spots in MagnaSoles convert the wearer's own energy to match the Earth's natural vibrational rate of 32.805 kilofrankels." This develops the
theory that using weird scientific words will make their product more believable. It is false and they are just trying to confuse the consumer

I was not able to perform the 3 minute step test because of medical reasons.
The benefits of the step test would be that there is not a lot of energy being exerted by the participants. Unlike running, stepping comes natural making
this test less challenging people. The people who would benefit most from the step test would be the people who aren't too physically active in their

An Exciting Night For The Basketball Teams
"Show me your hands. Do they have scars from giving? Show me your feet. Are they wounded in service? Show me your heart. Have you left a place
for divine love?" –Bishop Fulton J. Sheen
The date was February 17, 2011, exactly six days after my eighteenth birthday. It was an exciting night for the basketball teams of Rosehill Christian
School and Bay Area Christian, who were playing against each other in the first round of the TAPPS 3–A playoffs. It was the first time since I was a
middle school student that RCS had participated in playoffs. The game was a hard fought game of cat–and–mouse with the score during the first half.
It was only a few minutes into the third quarter of the game. We had just scored a basket and I was in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was the only time I've yelled in pain during a game. Even when I had busted my eyebrow open to months prior, I hadn't been phased in the
slightest. This was the worst pain I experienced in my life and what made it worse was being unable to sit comfortably as my right leg shot with
sharp pain anytime it had the slightest pressure against it. After those agonizing five days, my mother and father finally agreed to allow me to go to
our family orthopedic doctor. My mom was the one to take me after my first two periods of class. The trip is pretty hazy due to the throbbing pain
and slightly numbing sensation in my right leg. We went in and after telling the doctor what happened, he nodded his head. He said my concerns
were founded, but probably nothing to worry about since I was walking for the five days prior. If anything had happened, I wouldn't have been able to
put any weight on my leg, especially without any assistance. "We'll still take X–Rays, just to see what exactly is going on," he said as he led me from
the examination room to the X–Ray lab. We went through the process before we went back to the examination room. The following twenty minutes
seemed like hours, but the doctor eventually returned. The look on his face relayed the message before his mouth could speak the words. He put his
hands behind his head and asked us to follow him outside the room to the light wall. He pushed the large film

Medical Aspects of Running and Running-related Injuries...
Medical Aspects of Running and Running–related Injuries
"Runners are the 'healthiest sick people in the world'", according to ultrarunner Jeff Robbins. In an email that I received from him he added, "One of
the problems with the ultras is that you are always stressing things to the limits. Therefore problems tend to crop up. Half the fun in this sport is
learning to deal with adversity no matter how it comes." Injury is a runner's most dreaded and aggravating obstacle. Sometimes no matter how much
the mind wills it, the body cannot go on without causing itself permanent damage. Pushing beyond these limitations will eventually cause the body to
rebel and self–destruct. There are preventative measures that can be taken to stop these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jason Hodde, Jeff Robbins, Norm Yarger, and Karl King each personally emailed me with insightful information on running
–related injuries. The
listserve is such a great interactive source of information. Who better to learn from but the runners themselves? They are the ones who have to cope
with the injuries. Any amount of personal experience through trial and error is better advice than book knowledge. This is the reason why so many
runners advise that running–related injuries should be taken to a doctor who has running experience because he will be more inclined to look to rectify
the cause of the injury instead of resorting to surgery.
The best way to prevent injuries from occurring is to take the appropriate precautionary actions. The first major rule is: don't strain. The majority of
running injuries occur from overtraining. It is important for a runner to incorporate hard days and easy days into his/her exercise routine. You need
to give your body time to rest so that it can repair itself. Fatigue accumulates and if you don't ease up occasionally, you won't improve. Being
overtired will eventually lead to injury because your body needs a chance to recover and strengthen itself. Also, avoid doing too much too soon. Dr.
Stephen Pribut suggests that "Mileage should usually only be increased approximately ten percent per week. Every third week, you should drop back
a small amount. For most runners one or two days a week, at least, should be devoted to rest or

Descriptive Essay On The Beach
My sister and I are crossing the creek. My mom is with us too. Nana is already ahead of us, smiling back through relaxed lips and fond eyes. We're
all excited to have our feet in the sand. I'm excited that I'm not the only one excited. Madeline isn't one to play; neither in sand, water, nor outdoor
setting. She populates her mind with clutter and insecurities in all weeks but this one, and takes her time here to notice the footprints she leaves
behind as she steps over wet and dry and rocky sand alike. She knows that she'll remember every year spent at this place. Mom walks on the silver
trail of broken seashells where the water kisses the sand fleas. I think she lives in all eras of herself on this beach. She doesn't have to remember
what doesn't disappear. I stare at the horizon, where the sky and sea embrace. I watch the waves meet my feet and they don't greet or give regards
before they rush past my ankles and rush even quicker back into themselves. There is a swell in my chest, in my heart and in my gut, as well, that
pulls me towards her. I know that I'm futile in comparison, and I recognize that I'm afraid, so I reach as far as my sight allows into the vast mystery
and yet absolute reality of the water. There is no force of nature that exists on such an equable plane of understanding as the ocean does. There is no
person that is so unfaltering in their admiration for a big puddle as I am. Out of seven days, there is only so much time that we can set aside for trips

Trench Foot
Throughout history wars have been fought because two nations strongly disagree over a certain problem. They fail to reach a civil agreement to avoid
confrontation. When two nations reach a breaking point where they are so angered with each other, they choose to go to war. Their militaries are send
to destroy each other which often results in deadly confrontation. To make matters worse, other nations often take sides and engage themselves in the
war on one side or the other. Throughout World War Iand World War II, millions of men have died for their countries because they believed what
they were doing was right. It is often portrayed that most soldiers died with bravery, honor and class. However, during World War I particularly,
this was certainly not the case. Soldiers died in several different ways throughout World War I. While some were killed by the enemy during battle,
many were not. Millions of soldiers died from hunger, disease and illness. It is well known that during World War I, many soldiers endured some of
the harshest conditions and diseases ever experienced during a war. One of these harsh diseases is called trench foot. Trench foot was a disease on
your feet, caused by cold, wet, and unsanitary conditions often in trenches. During battles, men were often forced to stand in mud–filled trenches for
several hours or even days. Often times, soldiers were not able to remove their wet

The Basics Of Running And Its Benefits
Research Paper Topic: Running
Learning about the basics of running and its benefits could positively impact your life. Running is a fairly common task that many of us learn at a
young age. We practice running after we master walking as babies or toddlers, chase or get chased by our siblings or enjoy it on the school
playground during recess. Then we progress to P.E. class, track and field days or cross country meets. Whetherrunning is a sport we pursue in school or
not, it can be a learned fact or hobby that anyone can perform! There are many known benefits of running, and as stated, anyone at any age can learn
and enjoy. It has been named the world's most accessible sport. Running dates back extremely far in history as related to hunting and other religious
festivals. While it might look very different in terms of fashions, trends and GPS watches, I believe the form of running probably hasn't changed. To
begin running, you simply need to place one foot in front of the other and go! It is encouraged to exercise proper form to maximize your experience
and to gain the full affect. You should focus on holding your head up high and looking forward. Shoulders will be relaxed, torso stretched and tall,
which will result in the hips being in alignment. Your arms will be bent and relaxed while your ankles project you forward. There are certain styles of
foot strikes that runners make; pronated, supinated or neutral. Also known by your gait, your foot strike may or may not be

by the veteran and might make him/her feel as if his/her family might not receive the back because they feel incomplete. Most family issues occur
because families don't know how to confront the situation at hand and tend to hope that in the long run everything will be just okay. According to the
United States Department of Veterans Affairs(VA), family members commonly react with avoidance, may enter a stage of depression, and create a

I Felt The Harsh Dirt Under My Feet
I felt the harsh dirt under my feet. Bobbing my head, I swayed back and forth struggling to avoid hitting my head on the low branches that filled
the dense forest. In the background of my thoughts, I heard my friends trying to talk to me, asking me, "Hey, you gonna jump?" "Mmm..hmmm,"
I replied. Their question didn't matter to me, I wasn't interested in what they had to say, I was intensely focused on what I was about to do.
Anxiously, I went up to the edge of the cliff, and observed what I would soon be hurdling into. Looking down, saw brown, scummy water below
the dirt cliff that was keeping the distance between me and the water. Suddenly, I felt hands on my back, and my feet left the dirt. Without
thinking, I swung my arms rapidly back and forth. Rapidly and pathetically I reached around for something to keep me from plunging into the
turbid water. There was no use, I was already descending towards the water at a very rapid pace. My feet eventually reached the water, after what
felt like forever. I had annihilated the water that used to be as smooth as glass, because of the absence of disturbance it once had. With the frigid
water surrounding my body, chills went up my spine and into my shoulders. While submerged in the water, I came to the conclusion that my friends
and brother probably left me, to frighten me. Why else would they pull a prank on me and leave me stranded in the water? While drifting to the
bottom of the creek, I realized that as a result of my friends

One training method that could be used to improve strength in the lower body is to do leg presses working on the quadriceps, do 3 sets of 5 reps at
80% rate this should be done 3 times a week for the 6 week period of training. To see if the footballer has improved over the duration, do a pre–test by
seeing the maximum weight that they can lift and a post–test to see if the maximum weight that they can lift has improved.
Stamina/ CV
Stamina is important for a footballer as they will want to be able to perform for the whole 90 minute game period. If the player gets fatigued they'll
not often perform their best so it is important there stamina levels are high so they can maintain running for a long period of time. Fartlek training
could be used to improve CV you could do this by jogging for 30 seconds sprinting for 5 seconds and repeating it over a 5 minutes 50 seconds then
with a 30 second walking rest then repeat it again. You could show improvements by doing the multistage fitness test (bleep test) before and after

My Best Friend : My Friend
My best friend. My biggest supporter. My brother. For those of us with brothers, we can easily say that they tend to be aggravating at times, but at
the same time they can be one of the most positive influences in our lives. This describes my older brother Abraham, or Abe for short. All through
my life, having him next to my side has been one of the greatest things that has ever happened to me. From the headaches of school, to the
carelessness of child play, to now living in his house; Abraham has helped me become the person that I am today. Kindergarten was rough; milk,
cookies, nap time, coloring books, as well as learning how to count to 100. There was, however, a tricky situation that I could not get past; learning to
tie my shoes. For the longest of times I always needed the assistance of an adult. My dad was the adult that I favored. He would always do the slipknot
method. I could never comprehend its complexity: intertwine the two strings, make a loop with the right string, then the left string goes around it, and
then the part that I never managed to grasp – pull the left string out. This made me so frustrated, I could never figure out how he was able to
accomplish it. Eventually there came a day when my dad was not around to help. This meant that I had to find a suitable alternative to my dad I had
very limited options, I had to go to my siblings. I was not fond of asking my sisters for anything, because I believed they did not know what they were

The Anatomy of Homo Sapiens is Unique
The anatomy of Homo sapiens is unique in several ways and sets us apart from other species all across the world. One of the most distinguishing
characteristics that differentiates Homo sapiens from other species is the utilization of bipedal locomotion. Humans have established a unique way of
moving from one location to another that is due to the evolution numerous anatomical developments over millions of years. Hominid bipedalism has
evolved as a product of natural selection, a theory coined by Charles Darwin in 1859. This theory of evolution through the process of natural selection
explains that some organisms are more reproductively fit than others. Therefore, these organisms are able to pass on their beneficial genes to the next
generation. Essentially, traits that give certain organisms specific advantages, such as bipedalism in hominids, will be selected for in greater numbers,
and therefore more individuals in the succeeding populations will display these beneficial traits (Darwin 1859). Darwin's theory can be used to help
describe the central idea behind the fascinating transformation process from quadrupedalism to bipedalism.
One of the most intriguing aspects surrounding this topic is the multiple different hypotheses for the evolution from quadrupedal gait to bipedal
locomotion. Due to the fact that evidence suggests that the emergence of bipedalism occurred as early as 6 millions years ago, there have been many
hyptotheses as to how the earliest hominids

Fish Pedicure Essay
6.Fish Pedicure
You've probably heard about this before. A fish pedicure is an unconventional method of treating your feet. It involves dipping your feet in an aquarium
filled with tiny fish.
The fish will swarm your feet and eat away all the dirt and dead skin cells in your feet. This type of treatment is natural, organic, sustainable, and does
not involve any chemical ingredients. The fish will also benefit especially since you are providing them a source of food.
On the other hand, not all people are suitable to this kind of foot treatment. Some people have a more sensitive skin than others and cannot sit through
the entire session because they find it ticklish. It may be difficult for some people to contain their laughter as the tiny fishes nibble at their dead skin
cells.
However, a fish pedicure is definitely worth trying. Who knows? You might just find... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Athletic Pedicure
This type of pedicure caters to the sporty and athletic clientele. If you regularly exercise then this type of foot treatment may just be for you.
Technically, what makes this tailored for the typical active person is their tired and overused feet.
Compared to the rest of us, if you are often running, exercising at the gym or participating in other forms of sport, then your feet and legs are under
more pressure and is prone to wear and tear. Active and sporty people often experience more foot problems including athlete's foot. They usually have
thicker calluses, blisters, and nail injuries.
Your feet are usually treated the same way as a regular pedicure. However, your pedicurist is more careful with your feet because you may have more
foot issues compared to the standard client. An athletic pedicure uses foot soak and lotion to help soften your feet followed by a reflexology to ease
your strained muscles. http://svmassagetherapy.com/blog/wp–content/uploads/2015/05/footmassage1.jpg

My Thoughts On My Dreams
Day 1: My first mindful rest experience was new and kind of unexpected. I did not believe I would feel so comfortable in that position to fall
asleep on the floor afterwards. I amazed myself that I didn 't want to get up. My dreams are generally very vivid and involve lots of action,
however in my dream after this experience was completely dark. Not scary dark, but just the nothingness found in blackness. I took a fair bit of
rearrangement to get into a comfortable position, but once I got to it, the hard tile floor actually didn 't feel as hard as I had thought it would.
Surprisingly, my grandfather used to take naps on the floor lying flat with a pillow against his head, although his feet were not in the same
position with knees pointing towards the sky, I felt connected to him through this activity. I found I had to really plan out a time to do it in the
future, because this experience was completed at a random hour when I was working on my other homework and I realized I had mindful rest to
complete today. I am planning on doing it for 7 days straight but am a little worried that I may miss a day because of timing. Day 2: I had a different
experience in today's mindful rest, I was told to keep my eyes open which I think gave it a different experience than the last. I remained mindful the
entire time. Although today was very hot in my room, and keeping the fans off for the entirety was hard. It was interesting that when I got up after, I

Analysis Of Exposure By Wilfred Owen
Exposure by Wilfred Owen
1.In the second stanza Wilfred Owens describes sounds of 'mad gusts tugging on wire' this emphasises the force and sounds of the wind. All the
soldiers can hear around them is the sound of guns in the distance. The word "incessantly" means constantly for the men the gunfire seems
never–ending. 'the flickering gunnery rumbles' has a rhythm, and may echo the distant, continuous sound the men can hear. The words 'gunnery' and
'rumbles' is the use of onamonapia the author is giving the gun human like qualities.
2.The second stanza makes it clear that the soldiers feel remote and unearthed by the gunnery in the north. "watching" and "hear" juxtaposition is used
here giving a contrasting effect emphasising the soldiers confusion reinforcing the sense of "remote and unearthed". "mad gusts tugging on the wire"
this reinforces the remoteness as if they were in the middle of nowhere. "Northward, incessantly, the flickering gunnery rumbles" the gun fire is coming
from the north "incessantly" means never–ending for the men the bullets seem like they are coming from every angle reinforcing the notion of
remoteness and being unearthed.
3."what are we doing here?" this completes the second stanza. The author uses this line to reinforce the horrible conditions. The men are asking
themselves what they are doing here, why would they be stupid enough to come here just to get sent to almost certain death.
4.The poet gives us a picture of a miserable dawn. The

Statistics: Shoe Size and Foot Essay
FINAL PROJECT STATISTICS
DENISE CAPALBO
Gender statistics is an area that cuts across traditional fields of statistics to identify, produce and disseminate statistics that reflect the realities of the
lives of women and men, and policy issues relating to gender.
Women can still wear men's shoes, but the size they are accustomed to will be labeled differently in the men's sizes. Although theshoe size is related to
the length of your foot, the sizes do not follow a direct formula. Subtract 1 1/2 from your size, if you are a size 6. Therefore, your equivalent men's size
would be a 4 1/2.
Above is a dot graph showing the female comparison if she was to convert to a male shoe by length. It is a difference in length by a size and a ... Show

Compared with males, the female's foot is generally shorter, narrower, and the length of instep is not as long. The average woman wears a size 8.5
(her foot is approximately twenty–four centimeters or 9.5 inches in length, about an inch shorter than the foot of the average male).
Further, the woman's heel is narrower when compared to the ball of foot, which is wider and has a larger girth relative to the rest of the foot.
Evidence supporting that the woman's unique foot is the result of genetics, comes from a study of toddlers. Even at this young age, the study found
boys and girls walked differently, and their feet differed in size and shape. Girls have a narrower foot than boys and when walking, put more weight
on the ball of their foot and their toes.
Clearly, the woman's foot is

What Is A Tent Foot
What is a tent foot? What you need to know.
Have you ever struggled to understand what a tent footprint is? Or have you ever struggled to understand why people need tent foots?
We'll I'm here to answer that. I think that it is important to know what a tent foot is because it is such a useful tool when camping, that it can save the
underneath of your tent from damage while you are camping.
So what is a tent footprint, really?
Think of a tent footprint like the foundation of the tent. What this tent foot does is it protects the underneath of your tent from any wear and tear.
Normally, tent foot's come attached to the tent itself so you don't necessarily have to worry about buying a new one. However, many tents are
waterproof underneath. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Believe it or not, when you are doing the tossing and turning, you are causing abrasions on the ground material of the tent.
Over time, the friction from those abrasions will tear the underneath of the tent apart.
Are there any other uses for the tent foot?
Tent footprints can be used as a form of insulation underneath your tent. When the tent foot is underneath your tent, the tent foot will trap warm air
underneath your tent to provide you warmth for as long as possible.
The tent footprint also makes sure that packing up the tent is as easy as possible. Since the tent itself will be on top of the tent footprint, the tent will
stay dry underneath. That means that you don't have to spend as much time cleaning the tent before packing up.
One other way that tent footprints can help, other than protecting the tent from damage, is by helping you place your corners of the tent. When you
buy your tent, the tent foot will nearly be the exact dimension as the tent footprint.
As for the waterproofing; just because some tents are waterproof, doesn't mean that a tent footprint cannot add an extra waterproofing layer underneath
the tent. It is generally a good idea to have as many extra layers of water

Soccer possibly is one of the most famous sports around the world. However, we usually hear that some talented soccer players like Marco Van

According to the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) and research data by John Miller, there are some common injuries affecting

70% of all ACL injuries happen without collision with another player as a result of football involving lots of one–step stop deceleration, sudden
change of direction, landing from a jump with the knee and hip at extension or a lapse of concentration. Besides tearing the ACL, we need to know
any knee injuries can cause a player to be sidelined from training and competitions for a long period unfortunately. Therefore, the knee injuries usually
are the main cause to break the careers of soccer players. (Source: http://www.englewoodortho.com)
Although hamstring strains (muscle group at the back of your thigh) will not seriously affect the careers of soccer players, they still make lots of
players endure torment on it. The reason is that hamstring strains easily occur when the thigh muscles of a player are not strong enough. This situation
usually happens when the player lacks time for recovery between training and competitions or receives excessive intensity training or matches when the
player recently recovers from injuries. (Source:

A Comparison Of All Quiet On The Western Front
All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque and actual happenings from the war display many similarities. The book does go much more
in depth with the war than any other resource or letter, but there is similarities in everything in the book to any other info about World War 1. Looking
from All Quiet on the Western Front to actual happenings in the war you can bring them together and see the similarities in living as a soldier in the
trenches, and how the men passed time during World War 1.
Life for a soldier in the trenches in WW1 as described in actual letters and as described as in the book sounded very alike. In the book it talks about the
human eating rats, trench foot and leaving the dead bodies lying on the ground just for something dry to walk on. "Killing each separate louse is a
tedious business when a man has hundreds. The little beasts are hard and the everlasting cracking with one's fingernails very soon becomes
wearisome." (Remarque, 1929, p. 75) This is an example in the book that can be connected to real life is when Paul and all the other men are sitting
around the fire picking lice out and burning them in a tin. "Since then we have learned better than to be shy about such trifling immodesties."
(Remarque, 1929 p. 8) In that sentence Paul is discussing the toilets, or latrines, saying how when he first started using the them they were nasty and it
was embarrassing, but now he's comfortable with using them. "I cannot bear to look at his hands, they are like wax. Under the nails is the dirt of the
trenches, it shows through blue–black like poison." (Remarque, 1929, p. 15) Paul describes the trench mud as poison, because it is. It caused men to
lose limbs, feet and sometimes their lives because it caused gangrene. "The rats here are particularly repulsive they are so fat–––the kind we call
corpse–rats." (Remarque, 1929, p. 102) "The trenches could be very muddy and smelly. There were many dead bodies buried nearby and the latrines
(toilets) sometimes overflowed into the trenches. Millions of rats infested the trenches and some grew as big as cats. There was also a big problem
with lice that tormented the soldiers on a daily basis." (Heirs, 2014). In the article it

My Experience That Has Changed My Life
As a teenager, I was in a motorcycle accident that significantly affected my life. My life was drastically changed by it both temporarily and
permanently. The experience taught me many things but is also one of the most prominent memories that I have as a young adult. It was a beautiful,
sunny summer day, I was riding the four–wheeler with my boyfriend, Chris. After returning to his house, a friend of ours called wanting us to come
over for dinner. We took off on the motorcycle to their house, driving down Highway 53 towards Dawsonville. The sun was on our backs as we
drove through the curvy roads, miles of forest on either side of the road. Being on a motorcycle was one of my favorite ways to travel, it was
freeing and exhilarating. Chris and I arrived there about four o'clock in the afternoon, and joined them in the backyard. They had burgers cooking
on the grill, we all talked, laughed and enjoyed ourselves. It was a warm day, great for horseshoes, girls against guys we played for hours taking
turns winning, mostly the girls. As the sun began to go down, we started to clean up and headed inside to watch a movie. When it ended it was a little
after nine at night and it had started to get dark. Knowing the roads home were curvy, we thought it best to leave. We climbed back on the motorcycle
and headed back to Chris' house. It was a beautiful, clear, starry night; the forests looked magnificent under the moonlight, like something out of a
fairytale. As we neared

My Experience In Football
Football has been a major part of my life for seven years now, it has also taught me many important life lessons – never give up in difficult times,
always work as a team and never put yourself first. During my years of playing, I've gotten injured multiple times and I came back stronger but this
time it'll be harder.
On the third play of defense I shot off the line and barely slipped by the offensive tackle who aimed to take out my legs. I bolted down the line
pursuing the ball carrier in a mass of offenders and I was getting ready to tackle the running back. I had planted my foot to help tackle the running back
and all of a sudden the bottom part of my left leg crunched. I tried to get off the ground but it was difficult. I kept trying to stand up, but my leg
wouldn't let me, it kept knocking me off of my feet. I eventually got up on my right leg and started hopping to the side line. The whole time I was
screaming at the coaches to get me a substitute and I was cursing as well. I was about halfway to the sideline before I started crying, but I wasn't
crying because it hurt, I was crying because this was my year to do the best that I ever had in football, my senior year. I got to the sideline and the
coaches guided me to the bench and sat me down. The trainer Mike, Rachel, and one of the coaches kept telling me everything will be okay. I couldn't
even listen to them. They were just distant voices when they were talking, it just made me aggravated. I knew it wasn't okay.

Lincoln's Attempt To Support D Estaing
American forces in the south, between 5,000 and 7,000 men, were based at Charleston under the command of General Benjamin Lincoln. Lincoln
recognized that he would need assistance from the French navy and army to retake Savannah. On September 3, he learned that the French forces under
the command of Admiral Comte d'Estaing were en route to Savannah, bringing with them ships–of–the–line and 4,000 soldiers. On September 11,
Lincoln marched out of Charleston with 2,000 Continentals to link up with d'Estaing. Arriving first, d'Estaing began offensive operations to take the
city. He initially offered Prevost an opportunity to surrender, but Prevost demurred, hoping that reinforcements would arrive. He was given twenty–four
hours. This reprieve would prove in the end to be pivotal, as 1,000 men arrived to support Prevost's force just as Lincoln arrived to support d'Estaing.
The Allied forces, when fully assembled, numbered near 7,000. Defending Savannah was a force totaling 2,500 men. Faced with overwhelming odds,
Prevost organized a solid defensive plan.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lincoln reluctantly ceded de facto command to d'Estaing, who had begun operations before Lincoln's arrival. The French commander believed that a
frontal assault against the British position would be futile and instead proposed to bombard the city. Lincoln concurred, French cannons were removed
from their ships, and a five day cannonade began. However, Savannah bore the brunt of the artillery assault while the defensive positions remained
relatively untouched, so d'Estaing eventually agreed to the frontal assault in spite of objections by his officers. He worried that a protracted siege
would take too long and wanted to redeem his glory that had been tarnished at Newport, Rhode Island. Additionally, hurricane season was moving in
and the British fleet was still lurking somewhere off the coast

I woke up today and remembered what day it is. Today, August 13, is grandfather's 72nd birthday. Are the both of you celebrating together? Tell him I

Life over here isn't bad. I know that you're worried but you shouldn't be. I'm doing just fine and I promise that I will come back soon. Before I left for

everyone's views on Canada. We finally got noticed and gained the respect we deserved after all these years. That's why I have to serve now. Here in
Passchendaele. Not only because of conscription, but for myself. I feel like I'm essential to this battle. As a Canadian, I must fight for my country.

My teeth chatter, and my heart races as I step onto the battlefield. I finally take a deep breath and muster up my courage. Not only this, but also
when I kill a German, although it feels relieving at first, a sense of guilt dawns upon me. I wonder, if I met that person's family, how sorrowful and
infuriated they would feel to find out that I murdered their son. Living in the trenches is extremely horrible, even though I have only been in it for two
days. Although, it is clever that these trenches, that are created by digging in the mud, are designed to protect us from machine gun fire. They are
muddy, and when it rains, the mud can slowly trickle onto my outfit. These trenches are rat infested, and the filthy rats always steal the last morsels of
food that we have. We use the backside of our shovel to smash and kill the filthy rats. When I first smashed a rat, blood oozed out of the rat and its
body was twisted. Nobody could bear to watch that horrendous sight anymore. I immediately ran away; it was the first living thing that I had killed in
my entire life. I felt happy but remorseful at the same time. Here in the Western Front, clouds always block the rays of the vivid sunshine; the

Pioniatric Medicine Personal Statement
Now, more than ever, we are in a desperate need to gather as one people, to share in our common humanity and seek a brighter hope for our world.
The pursuit of podiatric medicine is one that stems from a lifelong desire to transform lives and communities. As a physician, one has the unique
ability to both heal a sickness while bringing joy and stability into lives by forming life long relationships.
Immersion into podiatry as a field of medicine that I sought to pursue was ignited at a young age through my father who is a practicing Podiatrist. I

Within my first year at Texas A&M I had the opportunity to go on a medical missions trip to Wagusu, a small boating village in the outskirts of
Kenya. Though we were only there for about two and a half weeks, the imprint the community left on my heart is one for a lifetime. I was at a loss
for words observing the living conditions many of the locals were in. What appeared to be an old cardboard box was in fact a home for two
toddlers who had no family or source of sustenance. I remember a child approached me with a limp and upon examining his heel; it was evident
that a small splinter was left untreated and the child began to develop a severe infection. We were able to remove the splinter and supply him with
medication and within three days he was back to playing soccer with his friends. Podiatry as a field offers that unique sense of immediate gratification
after treating a patient. The village of Wagusu tuned my heart to the necessity of servant leadership where as people and physicians we lower

My Day Of High School Essay
It had been a busy Friday. I came home from a long day of high school, and I was so excited because for once I didn't have a basketball practice. On top
of that, I had plans to go on a date, I was always so busy that I never went on dates. This wasn't just an ordinary date though this just so happened to
be 'the most popular guy in school'. I was very excited, but after school all that I wanted to do was go home, get a snack, lay down on the couch,
prop my feet up, and relax for a while. Maybe even take a nap before I got ready for my date. I did just that. I got home, skipped the snack because
mom was making dinner, laid on the couch, and was slowly drifting into a nap when all of a sudden I heard a big bang, crash, and then silence. I
jumped up, and ran to the kitchen. There was my mother lying on the floor, with hot grease burning her, and food all over the floor she had just
cleaned earlier that day. I helped her up, and took her to the bedroom where I proceeded to help her clean up, putt burn ointment on, and told her,
"just relax mom, I'll take care of it." She just sat there so ashamed. This was a normal occurrence; my mom falling. But this time there just seemed
to be something a little bit different about it. Usually mom won't relax, and she'll keep going. I examined my mother walking to the other room. Her
walk worse than usual. I had a lump in my throat as I asked, "Could I examine your ankle, and leg? She said, "I guess. But I am fine." I rolled up her

Excavation of deposits within the lookout showed that it had been built on top of a surviving rampart core material with little resultant disturbance of
the rampart beneath (Johnson M., 2002). A section excavated through the rampart at this point showed that it was stone–built with no evidence of
timber–lacing. The body of the rampart consisted of a mixture of large stones and apparently quarried sandstones with pockets of large beach pebbles,
within a sand matrix. Fragments of sandstone were present throughout. There appeared to be little organised structure of the ramparts construction. It
could have been seen although with little variation that pockets of beach pebbles were prevalent. Larger stones were visible towards the basal
section, with more voids present, perhaps indicating that a layer of basal stones had been laid on the ground surface initially to mark out the line of
the rampart or provide a firm foundation. The section of rampart excavated measured 8m wide and 3–3.25m high. Excavating could not extend to the
inner and outer faces of the rampart as constraints were imposed by working within the confines of the building (Johnson M., 2002). Beneath the
rampart was discovered well preserved organic deposits. Further examination of these deposits discovered two old land surfaces separated by
windblown sand, with relict dune sands

cat–and–mouse with the score during the first half. It was only a few minutes into the third quarter of the game. We had just scored a basket and I was
in the paint, waiting for my teammates to get back and into their spots for our 2–3 zone defense. One of the opponents moved the ball towards our goal
while everyone ran with him, seeming to not even pay the ball the slightest attention. When he got near to the basket, I got in his way and went to
block his mid–range jump shot. I towered over the opponent player, so I had a good chance of blocking the shot if it hadn't been for one of my
teammates flying in and fouling the guy, allowing him to shoot free throws. When I landed, that's when I heard the subtle "pop" from below my torso.
I remember the smell and taste of sweat from all of us on the court. Seeing the players slowly get taller than me. The absence of sensation in my body
until I hit the ground

Cold Frostbite Research Paper
For the last 14 years the US Special Forces have been fighting various enemy forces in Afghanistan, often in the snow covered and treacherous
mountains found throughout the country. While it is of the utmost importance to ensure you have a solid understanding of your enemy and combat
tactics, in these cold and mountainous environments it is equally important to understand the risks associated with exposure to a cold weather, the
physiologic impact of acute and prolonged exposure to a cold weather, and the increased risk of dehydration in the cold weather while conducting
extremely strenuous work in this most austere environment. With a foundational understanding surrounding the human organism's ability to adapt to
and tolerate cold, the Special... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mild frostbite is an injury that does not result in tissue loss, whereas severe frostbite does. Much like a thermal burn frostbite can also be categorized
into "degrees" of injury according to acute physical findings after freezing and rewarming (Freer & Imray, 2012). Frostnip, a superficial injury resulting
in no frozen extracellular water or tissue loss, is associated with severe vasoconstriction that manifests in discomfort but usually resolves on its own
within 30 minutes. First–degree frostbite presents with numbness of the effected tissue, erythema, and edema; like frostnip there is no tissue loss.
Second–degree frostbite presents with clear or milky blisters on the skin surrounded by edema and erythema. This degree of frostbite typically looks
worse than it is and will heal within 30 days. Third–degree frostbite presents with deeper blisters often containing purple–ish blood filled fluid. This
degree of frostbite is severe and indicates that the injury has extended beneath the dermal vascular plexus and into the reticular dermis. The final and
most severe is fourth–degree frostbite, usually presenting with relatively avascular subcuticular tissues causing mummification with muscle and bone
involvement. This degree of frostbite typically results in tissue loss and/or auto or surgical amputation (Freer & Imray,

  • 1. Cold Injury Research Paper Non Freezing Cold Injury also known as trench foot, is a condition caused by prolonged exposure to cold, wet, and unsanitary conditions. It causes the foot to become nub, due to a lose of blood flow to the feet. Trench Foot originates back to 1812 with Napoleon's Army, however Trench Foot is most commonly associate with World War I TrenchFoot is caused by prolonged exposure to cold, wet unsanitary conditions. Trench Foot can develop with less than a day in these conditions. The blood flow lessens in an attempt to keep the body temperature regulated. This reduces the amount of nutrients and oxygen to the feet, resulting in nerve and tissue damage. It is most commonly seen in builders Hiker, security guards, campers. If the symptoms continue tissue and nerve damage, causing swelling increases and a constant feeling of pins and needles sensation develops. In brutal cases, ulcers and blisters evolve, the skin begins to peel off and the tissue dies, resulting in gangrene. Gangrene can spread quickly throughout the body, it is very serious and potentially life threatening condition if not treated quickly. Treatment of Trench Foot includes thoroughly cleaning and drying the feet, then gently re–warming the feet to improve circulation, after a potassium permanganate foot bath is used to draw fluid out of the affected area. In severe cases, if the first three steps do not work, amputation is needed to stop the spread of gangrene to the rest of the body. Trench Foot takes approximately three to six months to heal. As it begins to heal, swelling reduces and the foot color goes back to normal. During recovery temporary sever pain can be caused by forming blisters as the tissues warm feeling returns. In the article, The Onion, the writer talks about how people are gullible and fall for commercials. In the article the author used certain rhetoric devices that other commercials would use to make their product to seem legit. Barry, who wrote a mock press release that was published by The Onion claims that people who fall for ridicules commercials are fools by usingethos, imagery, and pathos. In the effort to appeal to credibility, the writer for The Onion utilizes ethos. The author talks about "real" scientist to boost the product. When the author uses examples like this, we are just getting lied to and hopefully influenced. What is really happening is they are saying lies and talks about how these "scientist" are suggested their products. The author gives credibility to science and how their product heals them. "Special resonator nodules implanted at key spots in MagnaSoles convert the wearer's own energy to match the Earth's natural vibrational rate of 32.805 kilofrankels." It was the only time I've yelled in pain during a game. Even when I had busted my eyebrow open to months prior, I hadn't been phased in the slightest. This was the worst pain I experienced in my life and what made it worse was being unable to sit comfortably as my right leg shot with sharp pain anytime it had the slightest pressure against it. After those agonizing five days, my mother and father finally agreed to allow me to go to our family orthopedic doctor. My mom was the one to take me after my first two periods of class. The trip is pretty hazy due to the throbbing pain and slightly numbing sensation in my right leg. We went in and after telling the doctor what happened, he nodded his head. He said my concerns were founded, but probably nothing to worry about since I was walking for the five days prior. If anything had happened, I wouldn't have been able to put any weight on my leg, especially without any assistance. "We'll still take X–Rays, just to see what exactly is going on," he said as he led me from the examination room to the X–Ray lab. We went through the process before we went back to the examination room. The following twenty minutes seemed like hours, but the doctor eventually returned. The look on his face relayed the message before his mouth could speak the words. He put his hands behind his head and asked us to follow him outside the room to the light wall. • 8. Medical Aspects of Running and Running-related Injuries... Medical Aspects of Running and Running–related Injuries "Runners are the 'healthiest sick people in the world'", according to ultrarunner Jeff Robbins. In an email that I received from him he added, "One of the problems with the ultras is that you are always stressing things to the limits. Therefore problems tend to crop up. Half the fun in this sport is learning to deal with adversity no matter how it comes." Injury is a runner's most dreaded and aggravating obstacle. Sometimes no matter how much the mind wills it, the body cannot go on without causing itself permanent damage. Pushing beyond these limitations will eventually cause the body to rebel and self–destruct. There are preventative measures that can be taken to stop these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jason Hodde, Jeff Robbins, Norm Yarger, and Karl King each personally emailed me with insightful information on running –related injuries. The listserve is such a great interactive source of information. Who better to learn from but the runners themselves? They are the ones who have to cope with the injuries. Any amount of personal experience through trial and error is better advice than book knowledge. This is the reason why so many runners advise that running–related injuries should be taken to a doctor who has running experience because he will be more inclined to look to rectify the cause of the injury instead of resorting to surgery. The best way to prevent injuries from occurring is to take the appropriate precautionary actions. The first major rule is: don't strain. The majority of running injuries occur from overtraining. It is important for a runner to incorporate hard days and easy days into his/her exercise routine. You need to give your body time to rest so that it can repair itself. Fatigue accumulates and if you don't ease up occasionally, you won't improve. Being overtired will eventually lead to injury because your body needs a chance to recover and strengthen itself. Also, avoid doing too much too soon. Dr. Stephen Pribut suggests that "Mileage should usually only be increased approximately ten percent per week. Every third week, you should drop back a small amount. For most runners one or two days a week, at least, should be devoted to rest or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We're all excited to have our feet in the sand. I'm excited that I'm not the only one excited. Madeline isn't one to play; neither in sand, water, nor outdoor setting. She populates her mind with clutter and insecurities in all weeks but this one, and takes her time here to notice the footprints she leaves behind as she steps over wet and dry and rocky sand alike. She knows that she'll remember every year spent at this place. Mom walks on the silver trail of broken seashells where the water kisses the sand fleas. I think she lives in all eras of herself on this beach. She doesn't have to remember what doesn't disappear. I stare at the horizon, where the sky and sea embrace. I watch the waves meet my feet and they don't greet or give regards before they rush past my ankles and rush even quicker back into themselves. There is a swell in my chest, in my heart and in my gut, as well, that pulls me towards her. I know that I'm futile in comparison, and I recognize that I'm afraid, so I reach as far as my sight allows into the vast mystery and yet absolute reality of the water. They fail to reach a civil agreement to avoid confrontation. When two nations reach a breaking point where they are so angered with each other, they choose to go to war. Their militaries are send to destroy each other which often results in deadly confrontation. To make matters worse, other nations often take sides and engage themselves in the war on one side or the other. Throughout World War Iand World War II, millions of men have died for their countries because they believed what they were doing was right. It is often portrayed that most soldiers died with bravery, honor and class. However, during World War I particularly, this was certainly not the case. Soldiers died in several different ways throughout World War I. While some were killed by the enemy during battle, many were not. Millions of soldiers died from hunger, disease and illness. It is well known that during World War I, many soldiers endured some of the harshest conditions and diseases ever experienced during a war. One of these harsh diseases is called trench foot. • 13. The Basics Of Running And Its Benefits Research Paper Topic: Running Learning about the basics of running and its benefits could positively impact your life. Running is a fairly common task that many of us learn at a young age. We practice running after we master walking as babies or toddlers, chase or get chased by our siblings or enjoy it on the school playground during recess. Then we progress to P.E. class, track and field days or cross country meets. Whetherrunning is a sport we pursue in school or not, it can be a learned fact or hobby that anyone can perform! There are many known benefits of running, and as stated, anyone at any age can learn and enjoy. It has been named the world's most accessible sport. Running dates back extremely far in history as related to hunting and other religious festivals. While it might look very different in terms of fashions, trends and GPS watches, I believe the form of running probably hasn't changed. To begin running, you simply need to place one foot in front of the other and go! It is encouraged to exercise proper form to maximize your experience and to gain the full affect. You should focus on holding your head up high and looking forward. Shoulders will be relaxed, torso stretched and tall, which will result in the hips being in alignment. Your arms will be bent and relaxed while your ankles project you forward. There are certain styles of foot strikes that runners make; pronated, supinated or neutral. Most family issues occur because families don't know how to confront the situation at hand and tend to hope that in the long run everything will be just okay. According to the United States Department of Veterans Affairs(VA), family members commonly react with avoidance, may enter a stage of depression, and create a sense of anger and guilt. • 18. I Felt The Harsh Dirt Under My Feet I felt the harsh dirt under my feet. Bobbing my head, I swayed back and forth struggling to avoid hitting my head on the low branches that filled the dense forest. In the background of my thoughts, I heard my friends trying to talk to me, asking me, "Hey, you gonna jump?" "Mmm..hmmm," I replied. Their question didn't matter to me, I wasn't interested in what they had to say, I was intensely focused on what I was about to do. Anxiously, I went up to the edge of the cliff, and observed what I would soon be hurdling into. Looking down, saw brown, scummy water below the dirt cliff that was keeping the distance between me and the water. Suddenly, I felt hands on my back, and my feet left the dirt. Without thinking, I swung my arms rapidly back and forth. Rapidly and pathetically I reached around for something to keep me from plunging into the turbid water. There was no use, I was already descending towards the water at a very rapid pace. My feet eventually reached the water, after what felt like forever. I had annihilated the water that used to be as smooth as glass, because of the absence of disturbance it once had. With the frigid water surrounding my body, chills went up my spine and into my shoulders. While submerged in the water, I came to the conclusion that my friends and brother probably left me, to frighten me. Why else would they pull a prank on me and leave me stranded in the water? For those of us with brothers, we can easily say that they tend to be aggravating at times, but at the same time they can be one of the most positive influences in our lives. This describes my older brother Abraham, or Abe for short. All through my life, having him next to my side has been one of the greatest things that has ever happened to me. From the headaches of school, to the carelessness of child play, to now living in his house; Abraham has helped me become the person that I am today. Kindergarten was rough; milk, cookies, nap time, coloring books, as well as learning how to count to 100. There was, however, a tricky situation that I could not get past; learning to tie my shoes. For the longest of times I always needed the assistance of an adult. My dad was the adult that I favored. He would always do the slipknot method. I could never comprehend its complexity: intertwine the two strings, make a loop with the right string, then the left string goes around it, and then the part that I never managed to grasp – pull the left string out. This made me so frustrated, I could never figure out how he was able to accomplish it. Eventually there came a day when my dad was not around to help. • 22. The Anatomy of Homo Sapiens is Unique The anatomy of Homo sapiens is unique in several ways and sets us apart from other species all across the world. One of the most distinguishing characteristics that differentiates Homo sapiens from other species is the utilization of bipedal locomotion. Humans have established a unique way of moving from one location to another that is due to the evolution numerous anatomical developments over millions of years. Hominid bipedalism has evolved as a product of natural selection, a theory coined by Charles Darwin in 1859. This theory of evolution through the process of natural selection explains that some organisms are more reproductively fit than others. Therefore, these organisms are able to pass on their beneficial genes to the next generation. Essentially, traits that give certain organisms specific advantages, such as bipedalism in hominids, will be selected for in greater numbers, and therefore more individuals in the succeeding populations will display these beneficial traits (Darwin 1859). Darwin's theory can be used to help describe the central idea behind the fascinating transformation process from quadrupedalism to bipedalism. One of the most intriguing aspects surrounding this topic is the multiple different hypotheses for the evolution from quadrupedal gait to bipedal locomotion. Due to the fact that evidence suggests that the emergence of bipedalism occurred as early as 6 millions years ago, there have been many hyptotheses as to how the earliest hominids ... This type of treatment is natural, organic, sustainable, and does not involve any chemical ingredients. The fish will also benefit especially since you are providing them a source of food. • 27. Analysis Of Exposure By Wilfred Owen Exposure by Wilfred Owen 1.In the second stanza Wilfred Owens describes sounds of 'mad gusts tugging on wire' this emphasises the force and sounds of the wind. All the soldiers can hear around them is the sound of guns in the distance. The word "incessantly" means constantly for the men the gunfire seems never–ending. 'the flickering gunnery rumbles' has a rhythm, and may echo the distant, continuous sound the men can hear. The words 'gunnery' and 'rumbles' is the use of onamonapia the author is giving the gun human like qualities. 2.The second stanza makes it clear that the soldiers feel remote and unearthed by the gunnery in the north. "watching" and "hear" juxtaposition is used here giving a contrasting effect emphasising the soldiers confusion reinforcing the sense of "remote and unearthed". "mad gusts tugging on the wire" this reinforces the remoteness as if they were in the middle of nowhere. "Northward, incessantly, the flickering gunnery rumbles" the gun fire is coming from the north "incessantly" means never–ending for the men the bullets seem like they are coming from every angle reinforcing the notion of remoteness and being unearthed. 3."what are we doing here?" this completes the second stanza. The author uses this line to reinforce the horrible conditions. The men are asking themselves what they are doing here, why would they be stupid enough to come here just to get sent to almost certain death. 4.The poet gives us a picture of a miserable dawn. Or have you ever struggled to understand why people need tent foots? We'll I'm here to answer that. I think that it is important to know what a tent foot is because it is such a useful tool when camping, that it can save the underneath of your tent from damage while you are camping. So what is a tent footprint, really? Think of a tent footprint like the foundation of the tent. What this tent foot does is it protects the underneath of your tent from any wear and tear. Normally, tent foot's come attached to the tent itself so you don't necessarily have to worry about buying a new one. However, many tents are waterproof underneath. When the tent foot is underneath your tent, the tent foot will trap warm air underneath your tent to provide you warmth for as long as possible. The tent footprint also makes sure that packing up the tent is as easy as possible. Since the tent itself will be on top of the tent footprint, the tent will stay dry underneath. That means that you don't have to spend as much time cleaning the tent before packing up. One other way that tent footprints can help, other than protecting the tent from damage, is by helping you place your corners of the tent. When you buy your tent, the tent foot will nearly be the exact dimension as the tent footprint.

The book does go much more in depth with the war than any other resource or letter, but there is similarities in everything in the book to any other info about World War 1. Looking from All Quiet on the Western Front to actual happenings in the war you can bring them together and see the similarities in living as a soldier in the trenches, and how the men passed time during World War 1. Life for a soldier in the trenches in WW1 as described in actual letters and as described as in the book sounded very alike. In the book it talks about the human eating rats, trench foot and leaving the dead bodies lying on the ground just for something dry to walk on. "Killing each separate louse is a tedious business when a man has hundreds. The little beasts are hard and the everlasting cracking with one's fingernails very soon becomes wearisome." (Remarque, 1929, p. 75) This is an example in the book that can be connected to real life is when Paul and all the other men are sitting around the fire picking lice out and burning them in a tin. "Since then we have learned better than to be shy about such trifling immodesties." (Remarque, 1929 p. 8) In that sentence Paul is discussing the toilets, or latrines, saying how when he first started using the them they were nasty and it was embarrassing, but now he's comfortable with using them. "I cannot bear to look at his hands, they are like wax. Under the nails is the dirt of the trenches, it shows through blue–black like poison." (Remarque, 1929, p. 15) Paul describes the trench mud as poison, because it is. It caused men to lose limbs, feet and sometimes their lives because it caused gangrene. "The rats here are particularly repulsive they are so fat–––the kind we call corpse–rats." (Remarque, 1929, p. 102) "The trenches could be very muddy and smelly. There were many dead bodies buried nearby and the latrines (toilets) sometimes overflowed into the trenches. Millions of rats infested the trenches and some grew as big as cats. This captain will go down into history, he is an exceedingly influential leader. When we saw the French Soldiers retreating and advising us to retreat, he retorted, "Retreat, hell! We just got here!" (on June 2nd). Consequently, I am one of the people in combat, which is why I am required to be present ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My teeth chatter, and my heart races as I step onto the battlefield. I finally take a deep breath and muster up my courage. Not only this, but also when I kill a German, although it feels relieving at first, a sense of guilt dawns upon me. I wonder, if I met that person's family, how sorrowful and infuriated they would feel to find out that I murdered their son. Living in the trenches is extremely horrible, even though I have only been in it for two days. Although, it is clever that these trenches, that are created by digging in the mud, are designed to protect us from machine gun fire. They are muddy, and when it rains, the mud can slowly trickle onto my outfit. These trenches are rat infested, and the filthy rats always steal the last morsels of food that we have. We use the backside of our shovel to smash and kill the filthy rats. When I first smashed a rat, blood oozed out of the rat and its body was twisted. Nobody could bear to watch that horrendous sight anymore. I immediately ran away; it was the first living thing that I had killed in my entire life. I felt happy but remorseful at the same time. Here in the Western Front, clouds always block the rays of the vivid sunshine; the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Pioniatric Medicine Personal Statement Now, more than ever, we are in a desperate need to gather as one people, to share in our common humanity and seek a brighter hope for our world. The pursuit of podiatric medicine is one that stems from a lifelong desire to transform lives and communities. As a physician, one has the unique ability to both heal a sickness while bringing joy and stability into lives by forming life long relationships. Immersion into podiatry as a field of medicine that I sought to pursue was ignited at a young age through my father who is a practicing Podiatrist. I look back at my first glance into podiatric medicine at "Take your child to work day" and remember seeing a patient of my fathers seizing inside a hyperbaric chamber. The rush of emotions that filled ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Within my first year at Texas A&M I had the opportunity to go on a medical missions trip to Wagusu, a small boating village in the outskirts of Kenya. Though we were only there for about two and a half weeks, the imprint the community left on my heart is one for a lifetime. I was at a loss for words observing the living conditions many of the locals were in. What appeared to be an old cardboard box was in fact a home for two toddlers who had no family or source of sustenance. I remember a child approached me with a limp and upon examining his heel; it was evident that a small splinter was left untreated and the child began to develop a severe infection. We were able to remove the splinter and supply him with medication and within three days he was back to playing soccer with his friends. Podiatry as a field offers that unique sense of immediate gratification after treating a patient. The village of Wagusu tuned my heart to the necessity of servant leadership where as people and physicians we lower ourselves to meet our brothers and sisters at the place of their own unique ... • 41. My Day Of High School Essay It had been a busy Friday. I came home from a long day of high school, and I was so excited because for once I didn't have a basketball practice. On top of that, I had plans to go on a date, I was always so busy that I never went on dates. This wasn't just an ordinary date though this just so happened to be 'the most popular guy in school'. I was very excited, but after school all that I wanted to do was go home, get a snack, lay down on the couch, prop my feet up, and relax for a while. Maybe even take a nap before I got ready for my date. I did just that. I got home, skipped the snack because mom was making dinner, laid on the couch, and was slowly drifting into a nap when all of a sudden I heard a big bang, crash, and then silence. I jumped up, and ran to the kitchen. There was my mother lying on the floor, with hot grease burning her, and food all over the floor she had just cleaned earlier that day. I helped her up, and took her to the bedroom where I proceeded to help her clean up, putt burn ointment on, and told her, "just relax mom, I'll take care of it." She just sat there so ashamed. This was a normal occurrence; my mom falling. But this time there just seemed to be something a little bit different about it. Usually mom won't relax, and she'll keep going. I examined my mother walking to the other room. Her walk worse than usual. I had a lump in my throat as I asked, "Could I examine your ankle, and leg? She said, "I guess. But I am fine." I rolled up her pant leg, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. What Is The Construction Of The Triple System The timbers were thought to indicate timber–lacing in the walls but are likely to support a wall– walk or a similar structure. Carbon dating has given us an age range of AD340 and AD610, which is according to MacKie (1969) for the construction of the fort. It has been claimed that the fort was Roman however MacKie (1969) argues with the evidence that it was built by Picts in the early parts of the period and did not exist during the roman occupation of southern Scotland (MacKie, 1969). A project conducted by professor Ian Ralston aimed to find out whether the triple outerworks are similar with well– known enclosed 'courts' or whether the triple system of banks and ditches being different in construction of the headland walls are... Excavation of deposits within the lookout showed that it had been built on top of a surviving rampart core material with little resultant disturbance of the rampart beneath (Johnson M., 2002). A section excavated through the rampart at this point showed that it was stone–built with no evidence of timber–lacing. The body of the rampart consisted of a mixture of large stones and apparently quarried sandstones with pockets of large beach pebbles, within a sand matrix. Fragments of sandstone were present throughout. There appeared to be little organised structure of the ramparts construction. It could have been seen although with little variation that pockets of beach pebbles were prevalent. Larger stones were visible towards the basal section, with more voids present, perhaps indicating that a layer of basal stones had been laid on the ground surface initially to mark out the line of the rampart or provide a firm foundation. The section of rampart excavated measured 8m wide and 3–3.25m high. Excavating could not extend to the inner and outer faces of the rampart as constraints were imposed by working within the confines of the building (Johnson M., 2002). Beneath the rampart was discovered well preserved organic deposits. Further examination of these deposits discovered two old land surfaces separated by windblown sand, with relict dune sands ... • 45. An Exciting Night For The Basketball Teams "Show me your hands. Do they have scars from giving? Show me your feet. Are they wounded in service? Show me your heart. Have you left a place for divine love?" –Bishop Fulton J. Sheen The date was February 17, 2011, exactly six days after my eighteenth birthday. It was an exciting night for the basketball teams of Rosehill Christian School and Bay Area Christian, who were playing against each other in the first round of the TAPPS 3–A playoffs. It was the first time since I was a middle school student that RCS had participated in playoffs. The game was a hard fought game of cat–and–mouse with the score during the first half. It was only a few minutes into the third quarter of the game. We had just scored a basket and I was in the paint, waiting for my teammates to get back and into their spots for our 2–3 zone defense. One of the opponents moved the ball towards our goal while everyone ran with him, seeming to not even pay the ball the slightest attention. When he got near to the basket, I got in his way and went to block his mid–range jump shot. I towered over the opponent player, so I had a good chance of blocking the shot if it hadn't been for one of my teammates flying in and fouling the guy, allowing him to shoot free throws. When I landed, that's when I heard the subtle "pop" from below my torso. I remember the smell and taste of sweat from all of us on the court. Seeing the players slowly get taller than me. The absence of sensation in my body until I hit the ground ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cold Frostbite Research Paper For the last 14 years the US Special Forces have been fighting various enemy forces in Afghanistan, often in the snow covered and treacherous mountains found throughout the country. While it is of the utmost importance to ensure you have a solid understanding of your enemy and combat tactics, in these cold and mountainous environments it is equally important to understand the risks associated with exposure to a cold weather, the physiologic impact of acute and prolonged exposure to a cold weather, and the increased risk of dehydration in the cold weather while conducting extremely strenuous work in this most austere environment. With a foundational understanding surrounding the human organism's ability to adapt to and tolerate cold, the Special... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mild frostbite is an injury that does not result in tissue loss, whereas severe frostbite does. Much like a thermal burn frostbite can also be categorized into "degrees" of injury according to acute physical findings after freezing and rewarming (Freer & Imray, 2012). Frostnip, a superficial injury resulting in no frozen extracellular water or tissue loss, is associated with severe vasoconstriction that manifests in discomfort but usually resolves on its own within 30 minutes. First–degree frostbite presents with numbness of the effected tissue, erythema, and edema; like frostnip there is no tissue loss. Second–degree frostbite presents with clear or milky blisters on the skin surrounded by edema and erythema. This degree of frostbite typically looks worse than it is and will heal within 30 days. Third–degree frostbite presents with deeper blisters often containing purple–ish blood filled fluid. This degree of frostbite is severe and indicates that the injury has extended beneath the dermal vascular plexus and into the reticular dermis. The final and most severe is fourth–degree frostbite, usually presenting with relatively avascular subcuticular tissues causing mummification with muscle and bone involvement. This degree of frostbite typically results in tissue loss and/or auto or surgical amputation (Freer & Imray, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
