Arthur Machen and H.G. Wells were one of the most influential writers in the history of the English
language. Through their works, both Machen and Wells illustrated the themes of sexuality and horror
by exploring the idea of the supernatural. However, Machen s gothic novella The Great God Pan
(1894) and H.G. Wells sci fi novel The Island of Dr. Moreau (1896) further exemplified the theme of
humankind s relationship to God. In the late Victorian period, the influence of religious mythology fell
upon writers in England, and stories of the unseen became popular and abundant. This era was a time
when the public started to seriously question their religious lives. Nevertheless, The Great God Pan
was denounced by the public upon its publication for its focus on God as a powerful symbol for horror

1979 is an engaging and descriptive poem about a child s self coming into adulthood. Elizabeth, the

Aunt Consuelo to be finished with her appointment. The National Geographic however, is a gateway
which portrays Elizabeth s adult side, showing her as a child what is to come as she grows older. Aunt

Aquatic habitats face many challenges that aren t found in terrestrial environments. Such as the water
density; water is much denser then air (800 times denser). The buoyancy of organisms tends to be
higher when they are in the water then in the air because of this. However some animals are denser
then the water and need to be aided to stay afloat. For example, some fish have a swim bladder that
they can adjust their buoyancy accordingly to be able to stay afloat. The greater density of water also
poses another challenge for the organisms living in it, moving through the water is a lot harder and it
creates a lot more drag on the animal as it moves through it. Therefore organisms who live in, or
spend a lot of time in an aquatic habitat will survive better if they have a more streamlined, dynamic
shape so that they can swim faster and with more ease, using up less energy.

It can teach me how to be prepared in class, participate in class by asking questions about the topic or
discussion, and get feedback from my instructor. I was a little nervous and excited at the same time
about going back to school; however, there are many resources and tools to help me at the university.
Time management is needed in order for me to succeed not only in this course but through my field of
study. Before I started school, I already had a tight schedule between my family and work. Since I
have decided to go to back to school, I had to rearrange my schedule to put school in the equation. As
far as leisure time, I take the time out for that when available. In order for me to meet the course
requirements, I have a few time management strategies that I use. The strategies I use are keeping a
calendar, organizing and planning, setting boundaries, and sometimes I have to turn down doing things
that will put me off schedule. If I am not able to manage my time, I will lose focus on what it is that I

The American Epidemic of Obesity
As Americans we have made food not only a way to live but all help us with life events, whether
emotional times or celebratory events we turn to food. However our society has been consumed with
unhealthy food options readily available. This has in turn caused a huge medical epidemic in America.
Obesity has and will put people at risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and some types of cancer.
More than one third of American adults are obese (Ogden et al., 2012). By looking in depth at the
obesity epidemic in America through the three major sociological perspectives (structural
functionalist, social conflict, and symbolic interactionist) we are able to better discern this medical
issue impacting the health of American people. Structural Functionalist Perspective The structural
functionalist perspective would argue obesity in America is a necessary epidemic to our society. After
all, structural functionalist believe that all mechanisms that exist a definite meaning and are useful to
society as a whole. Structural functionalist could say that having overweight and obese people in the
world causes us to put attention on the true problems of health care. Obesity for a structural
functionalist is crucial for the continuous learning of human health and also for our love and hate
relationship with food. Structural functional would also argue that having an obese population might
inspire others to avoid the path of unhealthy habits. It would help people to make
