2. The main magazine that I used throughout the process
of creating my magazine was KERRANG! This was
because it is one of the most successful music
magazines in the UK and has a huge fan base. I also
liked the way in which the layout is and thought it
would be a good starting point for my product.
I also looked at CLASSIC ROCK magazine. Even though
I didn't’t want to do that particular genre, I thought it
would be a good idea to have a look at a range of
styles rather than all the same. I really liked the layout
of the DPS.
MAGAZINES WHICH I LOOKED AT DURING MY
RESEARCH.
3. Bauer media own KERRANG and other magazines such as:
Closer, FHM, Heat, and Classic Cars. They are Europe’s
largest privately owned publishing group. It is a multi
platform media group, meaning they have a large number
of different companies in the industry.
They also distribute radio stations such as TFM, Metro
Radio and Rock FM. They also distribute music channels
such as 4Music.
Bauer Media connects and engages 19 million consumers
every week with the most influential brands in the UK. The
value of our in depth understanding of these audiences is
reflected in our unrivalled research initiatives.
Bauer Media is in a unique position to be able to deliver
groundbreaking consumer insight to media professionals,
having more market leading brands across a wider breadth
of markets than any other media owner.
WHO WOULD PUBLISH MY PRODUCT?
4. I think Bauer media would be a really good distributer for my
product as after doing some background research I found that
many of the products which they distribute relate to my
magazine. For example 4music is pop/indie channel and this
is the genre for my magazine.
Also looking at the magazine they distribute they have
magazine in which are similar, but nothing exactly like mine.
This means they have a similar target audience, but if they
were to distribute my product they would broaden their
audience base to a bigger audience. My product is quite
similar to KERRANG! as it follows some of the conventions of
the style and layout. This means they have a similar target
audience meaning Bauer media would be able to distribute it.
WHY WOULD THEY DISTRIBUTE MY
PRODUCT?
5. Products like KERRANG!, have a strong branding as they own
radio stations, TV channels and online websites. They also
advertise through tour poster and radio interviews. Rocksound
and Metal Hammer also use all of these techniques to advertise.
However, today most of the advertising is done online on social
networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and
Instagram. This is a really good way for new products to get
publicity by the youth generation.
My product is very mainstream and will attract most common
teenagers today so advertising on social networks will be a really
good idea. This means I would attract my target audience
straight away, hopefully resulting in good sales. I would also
have a advertisement/commercial on TV, I would advertise at
certain points during the, mostly on a night when many
teenagers watch TV, but also mostly on music channels, once
again to try and ensure its reaching my target audience.
WHERE WOULD I ADVERTISE MY
PRODUCT?
6. Most mainstream, common stores will distribute my product.
Stores such as HMV, WHSmiths, many supermarkets and local
news agents.
My magazine also includes subscription information, in which
regular buyers are able to subscribe and receive a copy of the
magazine every month. This is a good selling technique for my
magazines, it sort of ensures an audience every month.
Also, my magazine has a website in which audiences will be
able to purchase the magazine online. This is thanks to the
rise of web 2.0, as the internet has became so much more
interactive.
