My initial impressions of the Middle East and Northern Africa are they are desolate, poor, and
primarily Muslim. Although I know there is an infrastructure in the cities that is not how I viewed
the overall majority of these two countries. The terms political unrest and upheaval, also come to
mind. When all you see on the news are war torn areas in these countries, the view you come out
with is skewed by what the media introduces you to. Many thoughts also run through ones' head
when you ponder what to expect when you approach these countries about business opportunities. I
do not believe I am ethnocentric when it comes to other countries and their culture, albeit I have a
perception which is stifled and constricted by those skewed views in which we are shown. I also feel
there is only two classes, the haves and have nots, if you will. The "haves" living in the cities with
an infrastructure, and the "have nots" living in shacks without any of modern day conveniences.
Although my impressions were uninformed, the information you provided in the video confirmed
what I believed as well as gave me additional insight into those countries with which I was
unfamiliar. In the video you reviewed two specific cities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and
Egypt – Dubai and Cairo. These two cities are vastly different from each other, however, I originally
viewed them to be similar in several areas like terrain, language, and religion. The

Unlike the melting pot of nationalities in America, United Arab Emirates is, more accurately, like a
pot of nationalities that was never heated. The immigration policies of UAE, among other things,
have kept them all separated. As can be seen in Dubai, a city that is the present day Constantinople,

The relationship between TFP and stock prices has been observed by analysts for centuries and most
of their results conclude that a growth in the stock prices generates a growth in productivity on the
long–term. So the shocks that have an impact on the stock prices and stimulate companies to invest
in new technologies affect productivity on the long–term because it usually takes time for the new

The relationship between stock prices and total factor productivity is explored by plotting the
productivity over the last 5 years and the evolution of the average annual growth rate of the Dubai
Financial Market (DFM) index. The evolution of the two variables shows there is a weak negative
relationship on the short–term between them so, we can say that the productivity numbers are not

state crime victims as ''those individuals or groups of individuals who have experienced economic,

The Gulf Cooperation Council states (GCC) are heavily dependent on oil to generate economic
growth. Oil and natural gas are the two main sources of capital inflow that enters into these
countries. GCC countries' dependency creates economies that are sensitive to any decline in oil
prices. After four years of relatively stable oil prices of around $105 per barrel (bbl), a sharp and
notable decline occurred in June 2014. In the face of the plummeting oil prices, most GCC countries
have cut their spendings to cope with the significant reductions in their revenues.
Given than oil prices fell by 29% in 2015 and 44% in 2014, the GCC countries are facing economic
crisis that could translate into economic deficits for some. Economists suggested that Bahrain and
Oman are the two GCC states that are most severely affected by the drop in oil prices, while Kuwait,
