Peek at the Week:
o In Reading, we began Unit Five. We were introduced
to the sound of /k/ at the beginning and /ck/ at the
end of words.
o We were introduced to nouns as “naming words” for
people, places, things and animals.
o Our new High Frequency words are “for, his”, and the
students started identifying the
beginning/middle/and end of a story.
o In math, we began Chapter Six which introduces the
idea of subtraction as taking away from.
o Students practiced printing upper and lowercase Kk.
The printing homework for first and last name is
showing great progress! Numerous students already
have shown they can print very neatly!
o We discussed types of land in Science.
o We had some guest readers in for Read Across
America and celebratedwith some fun projects!
Coming Up:
o Next week in Reading, we will be
introduced to the sound of /g/.
o Our new High Frequency words for next
week will be “he, like” and the students
will identify the beginning/middle/end of
a story.
o Students will summarize details from a
story as well as identify naming words.
o In math, we will continue with
subtraction.
o Student writing will now be printing two
or more sentences with spaces between
words. We write together in Kid Writing
books and during reading lessons. You
will see some of these writings in the
reading homework bag.

o The end of the third quarter is March 22nd
. Please
practice blending sounds and high frequency
words.
o We will be going outside to the playground in dry
weather so please make sure your child has the
correct jacket and shoes to run around!
o Library book return is Tuesdays.

,
so please remember sneakers foryour child to
participatesafely.
