1. Emily Egan
2017-2018 School Year
Provided below are descriptions and pictures of several projects prepared by
Auxiliary Emily Egan for Social and Natural Sciences, and other activities at CEIP
Santa Teresa.
Activity for Thanksgiving:
The students traced their hand on paper and then wrote 5 things they were
thankful for and then attached to a turkey drawing as feathers. This is a common
activity done in American grade schools to show what they are thankful for and to
relate the turkey, the main dish of a thanksgiving dinner, together.
Menu of the Day:
This activity was created to practice their vocabulary of food. Below is an example
2. sketch of what they should do and an example of a student’s menu.
Christ
mas Play:
Pictured below is a script for a play written by Emily Egan. This was performed at
the Christmas show to all of the students of the school and their families. Two
students volunteered and were chosen from each class. During breaks and free
periods the students rehearsed with Emily and a bilingual teacher to prepare for
the play. A copy of a script was saved for possible future use. The play was
approximately 12 minutes. The school has a video copy available.
3. Parts of the Body:
While learning the different muscles joints and bones, students were divided into 4
groups to trace and label the body. This activity was fun because the students got
to trace each other and label a life sized body instead.
Tools and jobs:
This poster board was created to be filled in by the students while learning about
jobs and the different types of tools they need. This poster board can be reused for
the following years because the words were stuck on with blue tac and can be
removed.
4. Treasure Hunt:
Pictured below are clues that were placed around the school for the student to find.
Every class participated in this activity at different times. There was three different
sets of clues that differed in difficulty to adjust for the different grades. Each class
was split into either 4 or 5 groups. They were given a first clue and had to follow
the rules on it to find their next clue. This activity practiced different directions and
locations around the school. The final clue led the students to a chocolate egg for
Easter. This was laminated to be used the following years.
5. Timeline of History:
The students created timelines in English (and in Spanish) to highlight important
things that happened during each period.
6. Final activity:
This activity was created as a way to review everything the students have learned
over the year. The activity consists of 4 stations. There are four groups that will
alternate between the stations every 10 minutes. Each grade will have a variation
of the same activity but with different information. The first activity one student will
be blindfolded and the other students need to provide directions such as “turn left,
walk 5 steps, go straight”. The second activity is What Time is It Mr. Fox, which is a
game played in grade schools in America. The third activity is Hot potato but with
topics. Each student needs to say a word related to the topic before passing the
ball. The topics will review what they have learned over the year. The fourth activity
will have pieces of papers with words on them and they need to place the words in
order to create sentences. Below are examples of sentences before being cut up
and scrambled.
