Peek at the Week:
o In reading, we reviewed and took our Unit 2 Test.
Continue to practice the High Frequency Words at
home.
o In math, we continued to explore Unit 4. The students
worked with ten frames up to 20. We also learned a
card game called Top It (war).
o During Science the students discussed how animals
grow and change as they mature.
o The students practiced printing the letter Ii, Aa, Dd,
Mm, Nn, and Ss. We also worked on writing our last
names!
o Students are doing great with their reading books!

Coming Up:
o Next week in Reading students will be
introduced to the consonant sound of /t/
and our new high frequency words “we,
at”.
o Also, in Reading, we will identify and
recall story details, understand fantasy
and reality and blend short /a/ and /i/
words.
o In Math, we will learn about probability,
review shapes and symmetry, introduce
subtraction, and practice counting,
writing and ordering numbers.
o In Science, we will explore relationships
between people and animals.
o Students will learn how to print the
uppercase and lowercase letter Tt.
As we approach the middle of the second marking period, I
would like to share with you the skills your student is working
on and the goal for midyear. You can work with your child
through daily activities to reinforce what they are learning.
The following skills will be assessed at the end of the quarter:
Knows birthday
Knows telephone number
Knows the days of the week
Identifies upper and lowercase letters
Can make a sound for each letter
Can say a word that starts with each letter
Counts to 100 by 1’s, 10’s and 5’s
Prints first name correctly on line
Recognizes high frequency words(yellow and blue)
Sorts objects and tells how they sorted them
Writes short sentences with spaces and words.
