Ukoho (1988) Express that exercise has shown to improve health prospects in various ways. It helps
to reduce body fat and overall weight and reduce blood pressure. Exercise ensures better digestion,
respiration and efficient blood circulation. Proper exercise programme can reduce the probability of
injuries among older people as well as back injuries among certain occupational group. Exercise
tolerance is increased, risk factors are controlled and even progression and regression of coronary
artery disease can be influenced by training and diet. Psychological effects include lessened
depression and reduced anxiety. Regular physical activity is important for maintenance of health and
may lead to a better quality of life. Training has to be followed not less than two to three hours per
week in at least three sessions at an intensity corresponding to 60 to 85% of maximum heart rate
achieved in a symptom limited maximum exercise test. Cardiac patients at high risk should exercise
at lower intensities. Exercise occupies a leading role in keeping persons fit. It will be quite difficult
to adjust one's life in term of stress, diet sleep and so on without proper exercise. Exercise means
using and tuning the body. Exercise builds and maintains physical fitness.

Education Is The Most Important Actuary
1.1. INTRODUCTION: Education is the most important actuary to mankind. It is education which
transforms man from two legged animals into human being. Education is the process of developing
the capacities and potentials of the individual so as to prepare that individual to be successful
specific culture and society. Though Education is a lifelong process yet it is commonly considered in
its narrow sense. Both common man and nation have some expectation from Education. They expect
that education must develop children into matured, dynamic, resourceful human being with strong
moral character who can serve himself his family and nation as well as an ideal. Moral values and
character should be inherited into a child at early age in home and ... Show more content on

The population of Lucknow city is 28 lacs approx out of which around 6.45 lacs people live in
slums. Most of the people living in slums of Lucknow belong to deprived class (Census 2011). Thus
overall picture of elementary education in India implies that "Educational Attainment and
Opportunities" for the Urban Deprived especially children in slums are much lower than for the
affluent section of population. Education is one of the most important tools to shape the all–round
development of an individual. This development of an individual is defined and determined by ones
Educational Attainment during the school. Now in an era of technological growth and inventions the
term "Educational Attainment" is not only used in terms of academics but also in other periphery of
school study such as vocational and co–curricular achievement. For Urban deprived specially slum
dwellers the "Educational Attainment" is the need of hour for their betterment and upliftment. As the
Parental Education level in slums are very low most of slum dwellers want to help their ward in the
family work such as repairing, tailoring handicraft etc. or to work somewhere else to help their
family financially.
Elementary Education System in India is providing incentives for attaining schools, making school

Comparing The Charge of the Light Brigade and the Defence of Lucknow by A. Tennyson
Introduction
Both poems 'The Charge of the Light Brigade' and the 'Defence of Lucknow' are written by Alfred
Lord Tennyson. (1809–1892).Both of these poems are related to two battles in the 19th century, both
of these battles concerned the British which were praised highly in the poems as you will discover
later on in my essay. When writing these poems Tennyson was very proud of the British for their
bravery, he describes this in both the poems 'The Charge of the Light Brigade' and the 'Defence of
Lucknow'.
'The Charge of the Light Brigade' involved the British, French and the Russians it was written by ...

It began on 1st July when 1700 men under the command of Sir Hendry Lawrence, who was killed at
the opening of the siege. On the second day of the siege, Lawrence was wounded by a bullet which
came through the wall of his bedroom. During the middle of July there were about 10 deaths of the
British a day.
I am now going to discover the similarities and differences the two poems together in the rest of my
essay by using quotes as evidence.
'The Charge of The Light Brigade' consists of many common techniques, for example Tennyson
uses repetition to convey the message to his readers:
'Rode the six hundred'
{Stanza's 1–4 – The Charge of the Light Brigade}
'Rode the six hundred' has been repeated many times in the poem The Charge of the Light brigade,
this is just some of the techniques used by Tennyson.
The verses above have maybe more than one explanation as shown below:
The word 'Rode' in the verse suggests that they were calmly galloping along not running or
screaming in fear. 'Rode' itself is a nice peaceful word and can describe them almost perfectly.
The other suggestion is that the number of the Calvary shows that there were only six hundred of
them and possibly thousands of the opponent army; Tennyson shows us that only six hundred of the
English took on thousands of the Russians to show their

INTRODUCTION Financial institutions and banks will continuously claim in order to provide the
customer driven services. For this the banks and financial institutions are being adopted the unique
concepts in business process reengineering i.e., the fundamental rethinking and radical redesign in
the business of processes to achieve the dramatic improvements of critical, contemporary measures
in performance such as the cost, quality, speed and service. At present the era of cut throat
competition in both at national and international levels banks and could specifically want to provide
the customer oriented services to fill the gap. However in order to become the market leader, it
could require more in breakthrough of corporate performance by adopting the BPR with it. SBI
(State Bank of India) have adopted the concept in BPR by the breakthrough innovations among all
branches across the whole world. This research paper study typically discusses regarding the
changing scenario of SBI (State Bank of India) after adopting the concept of BPR. I have really
adopted the case study method approach in which I had taken four branches of SBI (State Bank of
India) and could analyze the effect of BPR in these specified branches. In the above study, we could
see that after adopting the concept of BPR the branches had increased the number of customers.
After adopting BPR concept, service gap could almost eradicate in order to a greater extent. Again

Diabetic Retinopathy Essay
Abstract – Diabetic retinopathy is a complication of diabetes that is caused by changes in the blood
vessels of the retina. The symptoms can blur or distort the patient's vision and are a main cause of
blindness. The main idea behind this work is the detection of the exudates on the real time fundus
images of the patients. The methodology used for the work is based on the basic if–else condition
for the detection of the exudates. The current detection process is carried out using MATLAB
software. Keywords – Diabetic Retinopathy, Exudates, if–else condition, MATLAB I. Introduction

A Brief Look at Subrata Roy
Introduction– " A table, two chairs, a Lambretta scooter and Rs. 2000 in pocket". Many
entrepreneurs may have similar beginnings, but none of them would match the person about whom
we are going to discuss. The man, who formed India's biggest family namely "Sahara Parivar". A
man, who did not care about the road blocks, who always had faith in himself and moved forward to
show that roadblocks are nothing before determination and even demonstrated how they help in
success. We are talking about Subrata Roy "Saharasree". A smiley face and traditional moustache
are the most common look of Saharesree. A man born in Bihar, where rarely any businessmen have
been born, did the traditional "Lala–business" money–interest calculation, done by almost all the
wealthy people in Indian villages and small town. Despite all odds against him, he still got success.
Journey In 1978, Subrata Roy started his business with Rs. 2000/– as capital. His first business was
raising funds from the people. Due to some bad business by some businessman, the government
banned this business in 1979–80. Roy's first business went into vain and he had to make the
payment immediately. After closure of first business, he started housing finance business. After 2
years, in 1982 the government imposed some ceiling on the raising fund for housing finance, which
limited the growth rate and compelled him to think beyond it. After these incidences, Mr. Roy
started mutual benefit company, but luck

Across the different field of applications, several routing protocols have been proposed to achieve
enhanced network lifetime via energy efficient transmission [5]. The main cause for the energy
depletion in batteries in WSN is the communication required to transmit and receive data to other
nodes. Mostly the energy consumption in the network is due to transmission and reception activities.
However, the energy consumed for the processing operation is less important than the energy used
for communication [6].
The wireless sensor networks mainly comprise stationary and mobile sensors that are deployed
randomly inside the network and they collect data from the surroundings via wireless
communication links [7, 8].
Single–hop or multi–hop protocols are used to further transmit collected data to one or more base
stations or sink [9]. An enormous amount of structured and unstructured data known as big data is
generated rapidly that requires a flexible and reliable storage infrastructure [10]. Sensor nodes
transfer the obtained useful information from a defined network either directly or via a chain of CHs
to the BS [11]. In designing a routing protocol for WSN the main concern is the energy efficiency
[12]. Thus, energy depletion of one node may vary from other, i.e., nodes near the BS or sink have
more energy depletion than the other nodes. This results in the creation of energy holes near the sink
[13].
Further transmission of data towards the sink is not

The Indian Mutiny: The Role Of British Imperialism In India
Right here from our sunny Brisbane CBD another History mystery unpackaged. Today's topic is the
devastating Indian Rebellion. In 1857 the occurrence of the Mutiny significantly impacted India
destructively, because the Indians completely lost their Independence and control, as a result of
British imperialism. But what is imperialism?
Imperialism is the occurrence of nations power or influence expanded through colonisation. This is
from the use of military force leading to gain dominance over a country's economic and political
power. A great example of imperialism is the Raj, meaning direct or crown rule in Indian. This took
place during 1858 to 1947 and was the rule of the Indian subcontinent.

supress the Mutiny. Delhi, Kanpur and Lucknow were the first to be attacked during the summer,

A contemporary painting in the Mutiny art exhibition shows the amount of destruction the British
had during the Rebellion, by the suffering Indians. It depicts the devastating battle from the
occurrence of the British attack. With Blue pale men attacking the Indians with swords and the
Indian's in red hitting the British with muskets. This is a biased painting and is in the favour of the
Indians, as it consequently represents the controversy over beliefs and the difficulty the Indians went

Negotiating with Real Estate Developers: Three Main Concerns
For a potential home buyer, looking for a flat or apartment in Lucknow or in any other city for that

Theme Of Sunlight On A Broken Column
Abstract:
Attia Hosain is a feminist writer and broadcaster. Her novel Sunlight on a Broken Column (1961)
depicts the theme of decay fading away of a traditional family of Lucknow. The disintegration of the
family takes place of various reasons. In the novel, politics begin to affect the family affairs. The son
and father hold to two different ideologies. As a nationalist Muslim, Hamid calls the Muslim league
communal. Saleem thinks that the congress is an anti Muslim organization. The present paper aims
at an in depth critical study of the novel.
Attia Hosain:
Attia Hosain (1913–1998) is a writer, feminist and broadcaster. She was born in 1913 in Lucknow in
a taluqdar background. Attia Hosain and indeed her writing show a unique blend of tradition and
modernity. Writing in English, at a time when few women, especially Muslim women, used this
medium for literary expression, Hosain present a picture of her own world, one that was
multicultural, pluralistic and syncretic.

Analysis Of Umurao Jan
The movie Umrao Jan was directed by Muzaffar Ali in 1981 and is a social drama (Muslim social)
and classic film. The film featured Rekha (played as Umrao Jan), Farooq Shaikh (played as Nawab
Sultan), Naseeruddin Shah (played as Gohar Mirza) and Raj Babbar (played as Faiz Ali) in the lead
roles while Gajanan Jagirdar (as Maulvi) who plays a supporting role. The story of the movie is
about a Lucknow courtesan (tawaif) and her growth in popularity. During 1840, a girl called Amiran
who is kidnapped from her home in Faizabad and sold her in Lucknow. Later, Amiran turned into
Umrao Jan and prepared to attract men of wealth and flavor of some quality. Then, Umrao Jan falls
in love with Nawab Sultan, who is a high status person in society, but their love breaks up due to the
family concern. Finally, she saw her mother in her birthplace, but her brother didn't accept his sister
as a courtesan so he told her to leave this place and never come back. Then, she went back where
she grew up as a courtesan (tawaif) at Mehfil. The Umrao Jan's role is comparably higher in the film
and she glows up the screen, complying maturely with her character. Her acting skills touch the
audiences with the natural sense of emotions such as her sadness in her eyes and suffering on her
face took next level to the movie. Muzaffar Ali used a variety of songs in his movie which included
Ghazals, sad (songs of Pathos), marriage, religious and playful songs with the help of music director
Khayyam. By the traditional instruments, Khayyam scored the background music to represent a
situation well and smoothly carry the sequences. Also, Khayyam wants to get the attention of the
viewers/audiences by his music compositions. Khayyam portrayed his music passion throughout
each scenes BGM. For example, when there is a sad or happy scene, he increased and decreased the
tempo of the music and the quality of the sound (timbre) to enhance the visuals based on the
situation. Through the clever use of 'raag' and 'ras', Khayyam got the heart of the listening audience.
All of the songs in the film have been pictured well and are a feast for the eyes and the ears. Umrao

match to the 'Kababs' and 'Mutton Biryani' of 'Tunday Kababi' or the 'Chai and Samosas of Sharma
Tea Stall' . But for the past decade this City has seen growth of some innovative Street food stalls
which are challenging the dominance of various food brands in Lucknow. These food stalls are
catering to all the sections I.e from foodies to health freaks at very pocket friendly rates . They are
serving comfort food with a twist . These food stalls have become a rave among the masses. I started
my search for some amazing but lesser known Street food stalls in Lucknow with the help of my
localite friend Gunjan. The first thing we tried was the tea from 'Raju ki Tapri' outside the Charbagh
Railway station (near gate number 2) and let me tell you the 'chai' here is amazing, Raju serves

Differences Between The Indian National Congress And The...
Apart from religious and sectarian tensions between Hindus and Muslims, an ideological difference
between the Indian National Congress and the Muslim League is another key factor which led to the
partition.
Differences between the Muslim League and the Indian national congress can be traced back till The
Indian National Congress founded in 1885. Originally Indian National Congress was founded to
elevate economic changes and to influence the policies of the British rule. Through forming the
Indian National Congress by western educated Hindu aristocrats, gave birth to a lot of resentment
and dissatisfaction among the Indian Muslims. The relationship between Muslim and the Congress
saw many disruptions sometimes they cooperated and sometimes they stood on completely opposite

From the start congress had shown interest to safeguard the rights of Hindus only. The prediction of
Sir Sayed Ahmed Khan seemed to be proven to Indian Muslims that, "Hindus and Muslims are two
different nations who have different Ideologies."1 So the several events strengthened the desire of
the Indian Muslims to organize themselves as a Separate Community like Urdu–Hindi controversy,
partition of Bengal and its which gave Birth to the All India Muslims Leagues on 30th December
1906. The objectives of the Muslim League were; to safeguard the rights of Muslims and to bring
muslins in the notice of the government, to prevent the rise of prejudicial feelings among the
Muslims against other communities of India and the last one was to create the feelings of loyalty
towards the British Government among the Muslims. So overall this phase was the inception of both

KASHMIRI COLLECTION
Kashida of Kashmir
Kashmiri embroidery is well known for the beauty of its colour, texture, design and technique.
Probably, the best–known Indian embroidery is the 'Kashida of Kashmir'. This embroidery is
revealed in shawls and in cottage industry done by the members of families in Srinagar. Kashmiri
embroidery is practiced by men and it is essentially a commercial craft. | | According to Ramala S.
Dongekery, the shawl industry in Kashmir was introduced by Zain–ul–Abedin. Akbar was also
responsible for introducing a new type of shawl – the Dowshala meaning "Twin shawl". In this two
similar shawls were woven together, then sewn back to back. So the under surface of the shawls
were not visible. Khwaja Yusuf during his stay in Kashmir got the idea of producing shawls with

Hindu India vs Muslim India
At first, the aim of the Muslim League was to establish friendly relations between the Muslims and
the British Crown. After the Royal decision of the annulment of the partition of Bengal in 1911,
Muslim League saw that in order to get their requests dealt with, they need to form relations with
the Congress, the representative party of Hindus. Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the member of Congress,
also joined the Muslim League in 1913. After witnessing the annulment, he worked on a pact to
unite Muslims and Hindus which was eventually signed on 30th of December, 1916 at Lucknow.

Simon Commission was sent ahead before its decided time, as stated in the Government Act of India
1919 that a commission would be sent from Britain to India to inspect the conditions concerning the
constitutional reforms of this country. Simon commission consisted of seven members and its
chairman was Sir John Simon. The commission consisted of only British. In their Annual Session of
1927, the Congress leaders stated that they would boycott from any activities and proposals given by
the Simon Commission.
It reached India in 1928 and received a hostile welcome here. "Go Back Simon!" was the slogan of
the time. Then the Viceroy, Lord Irwin pleaded with Indian leaders to cooperate with them. The
Muslim leaders like Nawab Ismaeel agreed to it as he thought that by boycotting to the commission
would promote Congress. The commission itself was secluded and appointed 3 members from the
Central Assembly, whose services will be required when needed. The Shafi League of AIML at that
time thought that by opposing Hindu boycott, they would be favored by the government. In the end,
the report submitted by Simon proposed provincial autonomy in India but rejected parliamentary
responsibility at the center. It accepted the idea of federalism and sought to retain direct contact
between the British crown and the Indian states.

Siege of Cawnpore
The Siege of Cawnpore was an important part of the Indian rebellion of 1857.When Nana Sahib
captured Cawnpore (now Kanpur) British forces surrendered to him and in turn he promised them a
safe passage to Allahabad. Unfortunately their evacuation had turned into a massacre during which
most of them were killed. It was indeed an unpleasant event of siege of Kanpur.
Kanpur was an important garrison town situated on the Grand Trunk Road and Grand Trunk Canal
beside the river Ganges and lay on the approaches to Punjab, Sind and Oudh provinces.
In 1857, British ruled two thirds of India through East India Company. The remaining part of the
country was under the control of Princes with whom the British had an alliance. The year 1857 was

During siege the British felt that the magazine situated in the northern part of Cawnpore was the
most suitable defensive place for them to stay. It had thick walls, ample ammunition and stores and
also hosted the local treasury. But General Wheeler decided to take refuge in the southern part of the
city, in an entrenchment that was composed of two barracks surrounded by a mud wall. This area
didn't have proper sanitary facilities. It had only one well. There were several buildings overlooking
the entrenchment which would provide cover for the attackers.
There were many other safe places in Cawnpore but General Wheeler's choice of choosing this place
stands still controversial. He might have expected the reinforcements to arrive from the southern
part of the city. He might have also assumed that, in case of a rebellion, the Indian troops would
probably collect their arms, ammunition and money and would head to Delhi and therefore, he did
not expect such a long siege.
After three weeks of siege, the British started facing the difficulties. The summers were very hot.
Many died due to sunstroke. They were short of ammunition as they had to face successive
bombardments, snip fire and assaults from Nana Sahib's side. Their food supplies were getting
exhausted and they had to face starvation. People were becoming sick and they were deprived of
medical facilities. In such a situation

  • 5. Education Is The Most Important Actuary 1.1. INTRODUCTION: Education is the most important actuary to mankind. It is education which transforms man from two legged animals into human being. Education is the process of developing the capacities and potentials of the individual so as to prepare that individual to be successful specific culture and society. Though Education is a lifelong process yet it is commonly considered in its narrow sense. Both common man and nation have some expectation from Education. They expect that education must develop children into matured, dynamic, resourceful human being with strong moral character who can serve himself his family and nation as well as an ideal. Moral values and character should be inherited into a child at early age in home and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The population of Lucknow city is 28 lacs approx out of which around 6.45 lacs people live in slums. Most of the people living in slums of Lucknow belong to deprived class (Census 2011). Thus overall picture of elementary education in India implies that "Educational Attainment and Opportunities" for the Urban Deprived especially children in slums are much lower than for the affluent section of population. Education is one of the most important tools to shape the all–round development of an individual. This development of an individual is defined and determined by ones Educational Attainment during the school. Now in an era of technological growth and inventions the term "Educational Attainment" is not only used in terms of academics but also in other periphery of school study such as vocational and co–curricular achievement. For Urban deprived specially slum dwellers the "Educational Attainment" is the need of hour for their betterment and upliftment. As the Parental Education level in slums are very low most of slum dwellers want to help their ward in the family work such as repairing, tailoring handicraft etc. or to work somewhere else to help their family financially. Elementary Education System in India is providing incentives for attaining schools, making school process attractive to the children. Tennyson Introduction Both poems 'The Charge of the Light Brigade' and the 'Defence of Lucknow' are written by Alfred Lord Tennyson. (1809–1892).Both of these poems are related to two battles in the 19th century, both of these battles concerned the British which were praised highly in the poems as you will discover later on in my essay. When writing these poems Tennyson was very proud of the British for their bravery, he describes this in both the poems 'The Charge of the Light Brigade' and the 'Defence of Lucknow'. 'The Charge of the Light Brigade' involved the British, French and the Russians it was written by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It began on 1st July when 1700 men under the command of Sir Hendry Lawrence, who was killed at the opening of the siege. On the second day of the siege, Lawrence was wounded by a bullet which came through the wall of his bedroom. During the middle of July there were about 10 deaths of the British a day. I am now going to discover the similarities and differences the two poems together in the rest of my essay by using quotes as evidence. 'The Charge of The Light Brigade' consists of many common techniques, for example Tennyson uses repetition to convey the message to his readers: 'Rode the six hundred' {Stanza's 1–4 – The Charge of the Light Brigade} 'Rode the six hundred' has been repeated many times in the poem The Charge of the Light brigade, this is just some of the techniques used by Tennyson. Across the different field of applications, several routing protocols have been proposed to achieve enhanced network lifetime via energy efficient transmission [5]. The main cause for the energy depletion in batteries in WSN is the communication required to transmit and receive data to other nodes. Mostly the energy consumption in the network is due to transmission and reception activities. However, the energy consumed for the processing operation is less important than the energy used for communication [6]. The wireless sensor networks mainly comprise stationary and mobile sensors that are deployed randomly inside the network and they collect data from the surroundings via wireless communication links [7, 8]. Single–hop or multi–hop protocols are used to further transmit collected data to one or more base stations or sink [9]. An enormous amount of structured and unstructured data known as big data is generated rapidly that requires a flexible and reliable storage infrastructure [10]. Sensor nodes transfer the obtained useful information from a defined network either directly or via a chain of CHs to the BS [11]. In designing a routing protocol for WSN the main concern is the energy efficiency [12]. Thus, energy depletion of one node may vary from other, i.e., nodes near the BS or sink have more energy depletion than the other nodes. This results in the creation of energy holes near the sink [13]. Further transmission of data towards the sink is not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The film featured Rekha (played as Umrao Jan), Farooq Shaikh (played as Nawab Sultan), Naseeruddin Shah (played as Gohar Mirza) and Raj Babbar (played as Faiz Ali) in the lead roles while Gajanan Jagirdar (as Maulvi) who plays a supporting role. The story of the movie is about a Lucknow courtesan (tawaif) and her growth in popularity. During 1840, a girl called Amiran who is kidnapped from her home in Faizabad and sold her in Lucknow. Later, Amiran turned into Umrao Jan and prepared to attract men of wealth and flavor of some quality. Then, Umrao Jan falls in love with Nawab Sultan, who is a high status person in society, but their love breaks up due to the family concern. Finally, she saw her mother in her birthplace, but her brother didn't accept his sister as a courtesan so he told her to leave this place and never come back. Then, she went back where she grew up as a courtesan (tawaif) at Mehfil. The Umrao Jan's role is comparably higher in the film and she glows up the screen, complying maturely with her character. Her acting skills touch the audiences with the natural sense of emotions such as her sadness in her eyes and suffering on her face took next level to the movie. Muzaffar Ali used a variety of songs in his movie which included Ghazals, sad (songs of Pathos), marriage, religious and playful songs with the help of music director Khayyam. By the traditional instruments, Khayyam scored the background music to represent a situation well and smoothly carry the sequences. Also, Khayyam wants to get the attention of the viewers/audiences by his music compositions. Khayyam portrayed his music passion throughout each scenes BGM. For example, when there is a sad or happy scene, he increased and decreased the tempo of the music and the quality of the sound (timbre) to enhance the visuals based on the situation. Through the clever use of 'raag' and 'ras', Khayyam got the heart of the listening audience. All of the songs in the film have been pictured well and are a feast for the eyes and the ears. I visited Lucknow last month and seriously there is much more to Lucknow other than the Kebabs. Lucknow has evolved drastically with time. It is one of the largest and fastest growing cities in Northern India with a population of 2.81 million people belonging to different cultures and religions. People from various regions have migrated to this big city with the dream of a better life. The cuisine of Lucknow is a reflection of this. There is 100% no doubt that there is no match to the 'Kababs' and 'Mutton Biryani' of 'Tunday Kababi' or the 'Chai and Samosas of Sharma Tea Stall' . But for the past decade this City has seen growth of some innovative Street food stalls which are challenging the dominance of various food brands in Lucknow. These food stalls are catering to all the sections I.e from foodies to health freaks at very pocket friendly rates . They are serving comfort food with a twist . These food stalls have become a rave among the masses. I started my search for some amazing but lesser known Street food stalls in Lucknow with the help of my localite friend Gunjan. It reached India in 1928 and received a hostile welcome here. "Go Back Simon!" was the slogan of the time. Then the Viceroy, Lord Irwin pleaded with Indian leaders to cooperate with them. The Muslim leaders like Nawab Ismaeel agreed to it as he thought that by boycotting to the commission would promote Congress. The commission itself was secluded and appointed 3 members from the Central Assembly, whose services will be required when needed. The Shafi League of AIML at that time thought that by opposing Hindu boycott, they would be favored by the government. Unfortunately their evacuation had turned into a massacre during which most of them were killed. It was indeed an unpleasant event of siege of Kanpur. Kanpur was an important garrison town situated on the Grand Trunk Road and Grand Trunk Canal beside the river Ganges and lay on the approaches to Punjab, Sind and Oudh provinces. During siege the British felt that the magazine situated in the northern part of Cawnpore was the most suitable defensive place for them to stay. It had thick walls, ample ammunition and stores and also hosted the local treasury. But General Wheeler decided to take refuge in the southern part of the city, in an entrenchment that was composed of two barracks surrounded by a mud wall. This area didn't have proper sanitary facilities. It had only one well. There were several buildings overlooking the entrenchment which would provide cover for the attackers. There were many other safe places in Cawnpore but General Wheeler's choice of choosing this place stands still controversial. He might have expected the reinforcements to arrive from the southern part of the city. He might have also assumed that, in case of a rebellion, the Indian troops would probably collect their arms, ammunition and money and would head to Delhi and therefore, he did not expect such a long siege. After three weeks of siege, the British started facing the difficulties. The summers were very hot. Many died due to sunstroke. They were short of ammunition as they had to face successive bombardments, snip fire and assaults from Nana Sahib's side. Their food supplies were getting exhausted and they had to face starvation.
