Communication As A Nurse
As a current nursing student, the book Fundamentals of Nursing will enhance my career by helping
me implement good communication skills and understanding spiritual health.
Chapter 24 that discusses communication and chapter 36 that discusses spiritual health are the
chapters that helped me in writing this report.
It is factual that effective communication skills and competency are needed upon achieving a
profession as a nurse. Upon first greeting a patient the distinctive level of communication is apparent.
Communication has two core factors, non verbal and verbal. Both types of communication will be
implemented on a regular basis as I interact with patients in my nursing career. It will be vital for me
to attain an increased and developed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I now understand that spirituality represents for numerous people a critical element that solidifies their
belief in God. Showcasing spirituality through common practices, via good service to others, passing
on wisdom, or showing compassion, usually brings deep intimate satisfactions. From my reading and
comprehension, as I will concentrate on creating a secure, wholesome and warm environment for the
patients in my care. I understand that the nurses function is to feel and capture the imbalance that is
present, and to get rid of the barricades in the patients recovery process. Spiritual care should be a
positive and delicate approach, on the basis of trust and a terrific comfortable relationship between the
patient and nurse in an effort to deliver quality care.
Holistic care focuses on the emotional, physical, economic, social and spiritual needs of individual
people. Patient care has an important goal which is obtaining and maintaining the equality between
mind, body and environment, as this balance is important for a fulfilling life.
In closing, this textbook has fundamentally taught me that Nurses play an important role in the health
care profession helping and caring for individuals, or whole families and it has many important

Bridges And Their Types Bridges Essay
BRIDGES AND THEIR TYPES
Highway Bridges
Bridges are an essential part of the transport infrastructure.
General Information:
A bridge is a means by which a road, railway or other service is carried over an obstacle such as a
river, valley, and other road or railway line, either with no intermediate support or with only a limited
number of supports at convenient locations. Fig: Docklands Light Rail Bridge, London, England.
Basic features of bridges:
Superstructure
`The superstructure of a bridge is the part directly responsible for carrying the road or other service.
Its layout is determined largely by the disposition of the service to be carried. In most cases, there is a
deck structure that carries the loads from the individual wheels and distributes the loads to the
principal structural elements, such as beams spanning between the substructure supports.
Road bridges carry a number of traffic lanes, in one or two directions, and may also carry footways. At
the edge of the bridge, parapets are provided for the protection of vehicles and people.
Rail bridges typically carry two tracks, laid on ballast, although separate superstructures are often
provided for each track. They are narrow (about 2m wide) and are usually single span structures that
rarely span more than 40m.
Substructure:
The substructure of a bridge is responsible for supporting the superstructure and carrying the loads to
the ground through foundations. To support the superstructure, single span bridges

the fastest evolving diseases in medicine. Every week there is either a breakthrough in the study of
cancer or there are minor cures discovered. As I have read, there is more energy invested in curing
cancer than there is in preventing. Through the COOL program, I will be able to learn the causes of
cancer, which will teach me how to prevent it in the first place. In addition, I will be able to learn the

while volunteering at the Overlook Hospital I would find smiling faces waiting for me every time I

Women s Roles in Television
√Over the last 60 years may things have changed; technology, traditions, culture, and of
course the way a female is seen in eyes around the world. Television itself dates back to the 1920 s
(these television sets were extremely limited during these years). In 1950, only 9 percent of
American households had a television set, but by the 1960 the figure had reached 90 percent.
During this time, women were introduced in a completely diverted way then a male actor. Women
took stereotypical roles such as the housewife, mother, maid or even nanny. While other women
took on a role of a dumb blonde or a petite young women trying to please a man. Women were
meant to be submissive, obedient, and futile. In the past, TV portrayed women as sex ... Show more

Marilyn Monroe was society s way of showing the importance on being attractive, and how a
woman should look. Marilyn wasn t a petite women, but had beautiful curves and flawless skin.
She was known mostly for her body rather than her personality, unlike women in modern
television. Women today are known for their independence and their equality. Ladies from
Marilyn and Lucy s time came a long way, in some shows and/or movies women are now playing
major roles and even hosting their own talk show. Today, women aren t expected to be physically
fit or attractive but rather than good at what they do and love it.
The difference between all these ladies is that Lucy and June are more of the ideal mother
from the 1950 s. The white, middle class mothers who are thought to clean and cook in white
pearls and pastel pressed dresses. Although, Sandy and Rizzo are the ones to objectify the male
fantasy these ladies had a rebellion tone to their personalities, more outgoing and independent. All
these ladies showed dramatic changes over the short years. Now ladies all around the world are

Another difference between these ladies is that Lucy and June were mothers. In classic
television women did paly a domestic guardian of the household duties. In classic television, there

Feminism And Its Impact On Women s Rights
they could be. Feminism in refer to a collection of movements and opinions that share a common goal
including to define, create, and achieve equal rights for women in social, economic, cultural and
political dimensions (Berger, 2013).
Feminist movements have fought for women s rights including suffrage rights, right for fair wage,
right to work, hold a public office, own property, education, equal rights in marriages among other
rights (Ryan, 2013).
The journey to achieve these rights has not been without struggle as feminism has been met with great
resistance from the male dominated society.
Besides fighting for women s rights, feminists advocated for bodily autonomy and integrity and
especially to protect girls and women in general from sexual harassment, rape, and domestic violence
(Coppock Haydon, 2014).
Slide 3:
Media has always been an important element in the propagation of ideas in the society. Feminism has
been one of the issues that media has given enough attention over the years. However, the way the
media represents feminism and feminists have not been positive especially in the 19th and 20th
centuries (Johnson, 2014).
Feminism has been portrayed in the media in a different perspective. It has been portrayed as a fight
against men. This has created a picture that the female gender was fighting against the male gender.
In fact, the way different media has represented feminism and feminists have portrayed women who

My Airplane Experience
Most Filipino families have family living abroad. My family is one of those. My grandparents lived in
Barrow, Alaska the majority of their lives. When I was six, they convinced my mom to bring her
family to America. After six months of testing and vetting, we were on our way to Alaska. As a six
year old I did not think much of it, not until it was actually happening. When we were driving to the
airport I had a moment of realization that I was going to be riding in an airplane for the first time of
my life. It was always my dream to go inside an airplane because everyday of my life in the
Philippines, I would see airplanes flying high above our house everyday, and I would always imagine
myself inside the airplane and what it looks like. To this day, I still have a vivid memory of my first
experience traveling in an airplane. My first time flying was a defining moment in my life because it
was the beginning of the transition to my new life in a new country. After getting through all the
security checks and screening checks, we finally reached the actual fun part of the airport. I found out
that waiting in the airport was an actual experience itself. It was basically a mall with designer stores
like Prada and Rolex. As my sister and I were looking at expensive jewelry in the one of the airport
stores, my mom called us to get in line for boarding. My heart started to pound faster and faster as we
got closer to the kiosque because I knew that I was getting closer and closer

Factors Influencing Organisational Structure Essay
Introduction
The influence of factors on organizational structure and their impact on the organization has been in
focus by researchers since many years. This paper reviews the literature and analyses the factors that
influence the structure and design of organizations. Organizational structures are mainly grouped as
functional and divisional structures on the basis of functions or jobs. The most important and powerful
tool for enhancing performance in an organization is the organizational design although there is no
perfect or unique design. Organizational change occurs when a company makes a shift from its present
state to a desired state, which is necessary in today s competitive environment.

The factors that contribute to development of an organization include its size, technology human
resources, production program and environmental requirements. The role of political environment is
also stressed. For effective and also efficient utilization of resources, designing an ideal organizational
structure is important. Some of the factors that affect the organizational structure are decentralization
of decision making, customer interaction, value of innovation and marketing considerations. They can
be grouped into two factors: internal that was from environment under the firm s control and external,
that were not under the control of the firm. Today, companies require undergoing changes almost
constantly to remain competitive. Globalization of markets and rapidly growing technology force
organizations to respond in order to survive. The ultimate competitive organizational structure should
be a flexible one and the design should influence competitive strengths. The best practice would be
one that draws upon the knowledge, experience and expertise of people in the

Tragic Heroes Are Shaped By Modern Society
Heroes come in all shapes and sizes What makes someone a hero? When hearing the word hero,
people always imagine different things. Some may think of a superhero such as Spiderman or Batman
or even Superman. While some people may imagine a stranger who showed bravery in a time of need
or someone who takes their time every day devoting themselves to helping others. However, many
people do not imagine the tragic heroes Macbeth and Hamlet. One might think that Superman and
Hamlet are opposites and share no characteristic. However, tragic heroes from the Renaissance period
and heroes from today s times are similar, no matter how society changes the meaning of the word
hero. According to Dictionary.com, the word hero is described as, a person noted for courageous acts
or nobility of character (Dictionary. com). A hero, in today s society, is known as someone who is
recognized for bravery and compassion. Heroic traits today are things such as courage, responsibility,
dedication, compassion, selflessness, and humility. Heroes are usually looked up to for their actions
and have overcome something difficult at some point in their life. Heroes are selfless and caring, and
time after time, put others before themselves. Heroes are not defined by their size, anyone can be a

Technology In Canada
According to the Globe and Mail, as of 2013, 23% of Canadian Companies offered employees the
option to telecommute. A Statistics Canada study stated that in 2000, 1,425,700 respondents worked
from home, where as in 2008 the number of people working from home was 1,748,600, a small but
notable upward trend. Though numbers are only increasing slowly, more and more Canadians are
working from home. The trend is particularly impacting university graduates, of who more than 1 in 5
work from home. Factors that have contributed to this trend include an increase in the type and
availability of technology, the desire of today s workers to have a better work life balance, and the
desire of companies to attract employees. In today s work technology is increasing at a rapid pace, and
much of it is more accessible than before. An example that has been changed by both of these factors
is the internet. When first introduced to homes and businesses, use of the internet required it to be

3D Display Essay
This great progress in display technologies have brought us a long way in how we receive, perceive,
experience and interpret all the information. Mass media film, entertainment, internet, gaming,
architecture and data visualization have taken new shapes around these display technologies. One
important thing to note about all these displays is that all output only 2D imagery. They create a two
dimensional array of colored picture elements a.k.a. pixels that, stacked tightly next to each other,
project images or text. But in the real world, we see objects in three dimensions and we perceive the
third dimension with our naked eye.

This ability to resolve depth within in a scene either natural or virtual improves spatial understanding
of the scene and reduces the cognitive load associated with analysis and collaboration on complex
tasks. With recent advancements in technology, true 3D displays are making their way into
mainstream. 3D display technologies are stereoscopic or autostereoscopic. Autostereoscopic displays
do not require wearing special eye glasses to view the 3D content. Light Field Displays and 3D
volumetric displays are examples of autostereoscopic displays. On the other hand, binocular
stereoscopic displays require special eyewear to be able to view the 3D content, In many 3D display
technologies, multiple views are typically used to give a sense of depth and perspective. (Lages,
Cordeiro, Guedes, 2009). A survey by Air Force Research Laboratory(AFRL) suggests Joint Terminal
Attack Controllers(JTACs) who were shown 3D holograms and conventional 2D images rated 3D
holograms to be more effective than the 2D imagery in terms of retaining height information (Martin,
Holzback, Riegler, Smith, Ki Tam, 2008). Studies have also found that virtual reality devices can
improve and enhance spatial ability and understanding by providing interactive 3D visualization (Lee,
Wong, Fung, 2009). In a study examining the usefulness of stereo images in elementary school
education, stereoscopic 3D images were shown to reveal details that were

The Legend of King Arthur Essay
By the ninth century people all over were telling the fabulous tales and romances about Arthur and his
kingdom. The common people heard them sung by bards, while in the court poets wrote different
versions. In each retelling the speaker would select certain details for emphasis and introduce new
elements, so that the story could be adapted to the particular time and audience.
Although most historians believe that there actually did exist an Arthur, they differ on how major his
role was on influencing society during his time.
To understand the most widely accepted view on when and how Arthur gained fame, one must be
aware of the historical time period surrounding Arthur.

The passage then continues describing the twelve battles that Arthur fought and won. The last battle,
the greatest in the history of the country, was at Badon Hill. It resulted in a total massacre of the
Saxons, establishing fifty years of peace from the Saxon s horrible brutality of slaughtering, burning
and senseless vandalism (Jenkins 30 31).
Nennius s historical account is backed up by a set of Easter Tables.
They were calculating tables as to when Easter would fall out for the next given number of years and
in them were noted events of outstanding importance. In the annals were two dates regarding Arthur.
The first date is disputed: It is put as either 499 or 518 A.D. The first entry reads: ?Battle of Badon, in
which
Arthur carried the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ on his shoulders for three days and three nights and
the Britons were victors (Jenkins 28).?
The second entry dated 539 reads: The Battle of Camlann, in which Arthur and Modred perished. And
there was plague in Britain and Ireland (Jenkins 28).?
These accounts of Arthur are not only the basis for his fame, but they also show us the broad terrain of
Arthur s military activity. While the Battle of Mount Badon was fought in Southern England, the battle
of Cat Coit Celidon, mentioned in the Historia Brittonum, was fought in Scotland. The implications

Amusing Ourselves To Death Chapter 1 Summary
2. According to Amusing Ourselves to Death, Toward the end of the nineteenth century, for reasons I
am most anxious to explain, the Age of Exposition began to pass, and the early signs of its
replacement could be discerned. Its replacement was to be the Age of Show Business (Postman,

because it is entertaining and overloading the public with information so they will be involved.

And most important of all, there is no subject of public interest politics, news, education, religion, and
science, sports that does not find its way to television. Which means that all public understanding of
these subjects is shaped by the biases of television (Postman, 2005). According to Salon, Postman
shared the idea with Mcluhan that technology is not neutral he said now our truth moves with our
technology advancements. Postman was not just worried about the way we use our technology but
how our technology is using us. Postman made clear where his values were: Some ways of truth
telling are better than others, and therefore have a healthier influence on the cultures that adopt them.
What Orwell feared were those who would ban books. What Huxley feared was that there would be no
reason to ban a book, for there would be no one who wanted to read one (Salon). As Postman states,
Tyrants of all varieties have always known about the value of providing the masses with amusements
as a means of pacifying discontent. But most of them could not have even hoped for a situation in
which the masses would ignore that which does not amuse. That is why tyrants have always relied,
and still do, on censorship. Censorship, after all, is the tribute tyrants pay to the assumption that a
public knows the difference between serious discourse and entertainments and cares. Huxley feared

Riding the Black Cockatoo and Company Sin Matthew Magin
The land is my mother, my mother is the land. Land is the starting point to where it all began. (S.

Words are powerful tools that can be used to represent people and shape opinions about others. In a
similar way, certain actions and our treatment of other cultures demonstrate our understandings and
acceptance of, different beliefs and cultures. Two texts that support these statements and include

Indigenous Australians do not own the land. They see it as part of them and that it is their duty to
respect and look after their mother earth. They use the land to live on, to gain food from, to make
items they need and then to return their ancestors to the earth, when they pass on. This is a different
concept to the culture White Australians have grown up with. Danalis has to explore his own
prejudices and realises that he lives in a nation with some, who are trying to come to terms with both
heritages, cultures and beliefs.
Indigenous Australians bury their ancestors on what average Australians see as prime land, where
profits could be made from farming or mining. Indigenous Australians do this, as they believe they
can: ...enter the spirit world and become one with their mother... the Earth... Calling the earth their
Mother, solidifies Indigenous Australian s strong connectivity of their spiritual heritage with the land.
This is something that White Australians do not have in their heritage. The Indigenous people care for
and love the earth they live on. They have a spiritual connection to it, not just a physical one. Simply,
this is not part of how White Australians view the land and it is not part of their heritage.

A study of trends in saving and consumption by middle and lower middle class at national level
INTRODUCTION
Right from our childhood days, our parents teach us that save penny and earned penny. The phrase
highlights the significance of individual and household savings. With the passage of time, our elders
constantly tell us that we should spend less than we earn and save some part for uncertain and better
future use. Our elders also educate us to use resources and money according to our income, and our
expenses should be less than our income. From the classical days, saving has been considered as one
of the element of expansion and growth. In Indian economy, the household sector contributes the lion
s share of the total savings. As far as the household and rural household sector is concerned they have
remarkable saving potential which has not been considered seriously by the policy makers and hence,
measures have not been chartered to organize these enormous savings.
In this theory Keynes examined the tender of value function of money along with transaction function.
According to Keynes in general there are tree motives that create the demand for money. They are
transaction motive, precautionary motive and speculative motive.
1. Transaction motive
It refers to the demand for money for the present transaction of the people. Individuals and household
keep cash in order to bridge the gap between receipt of income and the expenditure. This amount will

A Seminar Essay
Socratic Seminar Essay There has been a drastic change in the way we perceive the world and this can
alter the way we see each other. We tend to jump onto a bandwagon because it seems easiest or
because of one personal scenario. This is one of the main causes for prejudice and injustice. How a
person reacts to being oppressed may bring out another side of them, but this side is their true self.
This reaction speaks of his or her morals, ethics, and values. To these people, all the perpetrators
appear the same, but it is known that while some may easily go along with it, some may choose to
stand above it all. The concepts referenced to earlier will be soon elaborated on in further analysis as
this essay goes on. It is human nature to assume certain ideas about certain people and it is also human
nature to love and trust wholeheartedly. These two aspects of our species collide when the terms
prejudice and injustice are involved. If one person had a certain relationship with someone different
than themselves in some way, they will most likely come in contact with someone who they feel the
need to share this event with. This person will most likely be trusted and respected by the storyteller
and listen to/believe everything they say. This is lead to rumors and soon becoming a prejudice
because there might be multiple acting this certain way. Although it does very frequently, this should
not lead people to jump to conclusions about a general group. This soon leads to

Reflective Report On Negotiation
Negotiations: Reflection Report Negotiations are pivotal in everyday life; however, it is in politics and
business where negotiations have the capacity to shape the history and economic future of a society.
This reflective report is a citation of one of negotiation simulation I have been part of my organization
in recent month. This reflective report will first appraise current learning against personal experience
in a multi party business negotiation. Specifically, I compare and contrast the various emotions,
relationships and coalitions formed in day one and day two of the negotiation. The outcome will then
be measured for its value and success from my perspective as the spokesperson for the employee

However, the nature of the negotiation, being a simulation, made it difficult to measure the veracity of
the anchoring effect since the payoffs (70%, 80%, 90% and 100%) were known fixed variables. The
general information provided explicitly stated the MGMT and CONTR conflicting stance on the
integrative issue, so neither parties gained valuable information from the first or counter offer.
Furthermore, following negotiations could not be made in increments less than 10% so my
conjectured capacity to frame and control the negotiation was greatly inhibited. Intra group conflicts
emerged in the last joint conference, consequently evoking apprehension and vulnerability. The
CONTR s outrageous proposal, to accept a supposed $7.00 share price at the expense of all other
parties, seemingly appealed to the MGMT. MGMT also hinted thoughts of compromising support for
USA based employment in exchange for a longer term management contract. Cohesion within the
coalition quickly deteriorated, and increasing pressure was put on my role to compromise with
CONTR for a better joint outcome. Simon s (1979) notion of satisficing for an acceptable but inferior
payoff, in the face of uncertainty, became apparent in my own negotiation attempts. I left Day One
verbally assenting to 80% USA employment, a markedly different result to my own target value. Day

Flight Training Research Paper
Jocelyn: Does the GI Bill Cover Flight Training Expenses?
The GI Bill does cover flight training expenses, but there are certain restrictions. Below explains about
the details of what is and what is not covered.
The Basics
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) offers flight training benefits to service members who want
to achieve advanced pilot qualifications. First, the candidate must already have a private pilot s license
and must have completed the mandatory medical exam. The aviation school must submit verification
of enrollment and proof of graduation to the VA in order for the tuition to be reimbursed. Only certain
types of flight training are covered, such as B747 400, rotary wing, dual engine and flight engineer
programs.
Older Benefit Bills
While service members must adhere to the basic benefit participation requirements, the actual
payment amount depends on the specific bill and aviation school. For example, any 2015 payments
which fall under the older the Montgomery Bill (MGIB) will cover service members enlisted for over
three years at $1,789 every month and those enlisted less than three years at $1,454 every month. In
2015, the Reserve Educational Assistance Program (REAP) reimburses flight training at three levels:

different opinions when deciding between private and public schools. Our country is a country of
contrasts, economically, socially and geographically. Education is the action or process of impacting
knowledge to another (Merriam Webster) with trained teachers, good books, updated technology and a
high quality curriculum. The public schools are institutions open to all kinds of students without
monthly payments. For example, children with low income recourses, children with special needs
(Handicapped, MR condition), aggressive behavior, learning disabilities and most of the times these
institutions accept children whose English is not their native language. Students wear civilian cloths
and they are not required to purchase any type of uniform. Most of the time parents do not have to pay
for meals provided in schools or pay for any extra class given by the school. However, several of the
schools ask the parents to buy school supplies with the purpose of having a productive school year.
Second, private schools are institutions which are managed with the money of those parents who can
afford the high cost of each month. Parents not only pay the high tuition fees but also should have to
pay for school supplies, regular uniforms, sport uniforms, food provided inside of these

Indian Removal Act Of Greed Essay
What is the defining line between greed and financial necessity? How many people need to die for us
to be financially satisfied? During 1813, thousands of natives trudged across rough terrain traveling
West to their new home. Thousands of natives die along the way due to America s greed. At the
beginning of the 1830 s, nearly 125,000 Native Americans lived on millions of acres of the land their
ancestors had occupied and cultivated for generations. However, at the end of the 1800 s there were
relatively few natives left. Although our nation would not be the same as it is today, the Indian
Removal Act was not a step in the right direction for Early America. It was morally incorrect because
first, we promised that if we moved them, we would protect them, second, the act of not following
through with protections went against what our nation stood for, and third, the Act caused one of our

Essay On Fourier Analysis
In numerical analysis, explicit and implicit approaches are used to obtain numerical approximations of
time dependent ordinary and partial differential equations. Fractional order differential equations are
used widely for finance market analysis. Implicit solution methods require more computational efforts
and are complex to program. In order to overcome these difficulties, explicit method for fractional
order differential equation has been introduced which is one of the most recently developed areas in
the world of finance. The main aim of this paper is to investigate stability of Fractional Explicit

becoming the world s 8 th largest trade nation, 8th largest stock market, 5th largest banking center and

(Larsson, 1997).
Many argue that this astonishing achievement is due to Hong Kong s laissez faire approach to
economic policies with low taxes, low customs duties, free trade, free capital movements and a fairly
liberal immigration policy. Many wondered how Hong Kong could ever be able to be ruled by China
again, a country with a considered completely different approach to economic policies. Over the years,
Hong Kong has been considered the door to China , meaning that many goods and services targeted to
the mainland Chinese market was traded via Hong Kong

Would the closer ties to the Chinese communist party have a bad influence on Hong Kong s laissez
faire concept? These where some of the big questions before the liberation. How did it end up? We are
in this paper about to investigate some of the details.

The Sociology Of Tourism
Sociology can be defined as being Concerned with explaining or understanding social behaviour,
particularly of groups or classes of people (Veal, 2006, p.22)
The sociology of tourism is an emergent specialty concerned with the study of touristic motivations,
roles, relationships, and institutions and of their impact on tourists and on the societies who receive
them. (Cohen, 1984).
There are many different elements of tourism on which sociology can shed some light such as the
individual, gender, class, development and social change.
Sociology of Tourism is the study of human social behaviour, especially the study of the origins,
organisation, institutions, and development of human society as it pertains to tourism. The scientific
study of tourism originated in Europe, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Urry distinguished two principal varieties of the tourist gaze, the romantic and the collective , to

The conceptual and theoretical developments in the field, beyond the discourses of authenticity and

sociology, which in turn mirrors some of the extensive late modern social trends.
The Principal Issue Areas in the Sociology of Tourism
Sociological research on tourism falls naturally into four principal issues areas: the tourist, relations
between tourists and locals, the structure and functioning of the tourist system, and the consequences
of tourism. (Cohen, 1994)
Tourism in a free market economy can exploit natural resources as a means of a profit accumulation,
and therefore has been described as the commercialisation of the human need to travel. The notion of
unlimited gain has led to exploitation of host communities, their cultures, and environments. (Walker,

the largest television audience ever amassed by a politician this was no ordinary political speech.
Nixon s future in politics was on the line. In one speech Nixon had the daunting task of not only
clearing his name of the allegation that he had received illegal campaign funds, but he also had to
present himself as a viable asset to the Republican ticket. Nixon bared his heart to the American

The purpose of Nixon s speech must also be examined in order to make a comprehensive analysis of
the speech. In his autobiography Nixon described the three criteria his speech must meet in order to
convey his purpose: (1) [it must] answer the immediate attack by explaining and defending the fund,
(2) ward off further allegations by showing that he did not accrue personal profit, and (3) launch a
political counterattack (176). Nixon used these guide lining principles to steer his way in the short 48
hour period he had to compose his speech. The principal way these purposes were achieved was
through the application of the three Aristotelian modes of proof: ethos, pathos and logos (Cathcart 45).
The primary Aristotelian proof Nixon used to appeal to his audience was ethos, or credibility. In a
sense, the purpose of the Checkers Speech was to reaffirm Nixon s status as a reputable politician the
public could put their faith in. Robert Cathcart more precisely defined ethos as the image that
receivers have of the communicator as an expert source with a capacity for leadership and decision
making and as one who can be trusted . Nixon s credibility was gone as far as the American public
was concerned until he cleared his name of the allegations he had used $16,000 of private funds given

Omtting colour and using natural lighting helps not only this scene but the entire story to develop as it
provokes more concentration from the viewer into this raw dialouge and acting. The classical style of
cinematography is used by Levy in shooting Frances Ha. The scene is shot with a steadycam evident
through a smooth pan following Dan from the couch to the kitchen. For the majority of the scene, the
camera is fixed in one position on Frances and Dan through a mid shot as they are seated on the
couch. This shot size is framed around the subjects for a measure of distance (Bordwell and
Thompson, 2008). The pair are sitting very close together and the shot further outlines this by being
close to the subjects without being labelled as close up shot. It is a tight frame, with a tight fix on the
subjects. This communicates to the audience that these two are a couple and they are very comfortable
with eachother and have been for a long time. The depth of field and focus range is very slim. This is a
result of the distance between the closet and farthest objects in the scene being very small. Baumbach
wants to focus soley on the characters in this scene as the position of the frame is extremely neutral.
The lens is level with the pair sitting down on the couch with no high or low angles used. For

Gender Themes In The Girl In Blue By Ann Rinaldi
There is a theme in The Girl in Blue by Ann Rinaldi. The theme is that gender does not affect skill
level. The Girl in Blue is set in 1861, and is about a Michigan native by the name of Sarah Louisa. She
is about to be forced to marry a man of her abusive father s choice when she decides to run away and
join the army. She joins the army under the ruse that she is a boy and participates in the battle of Bull
Run but her gender is eventually found out by her doctor and general. She is not punished for her
actions but discharged and sent to work as a spy for the Pinkerton agency. She is sent to spy on a
southern ally who is under house arrest to find out how she is sending messages to the south. She
discovers how and is rewarded with a break. She travels home to find her abusive father had died and
her sister is betrothed to the man she ran from. She leaves to go back to her job as a spy and that is
where the story ends. Some of the reasons the theme could be gender not affecting skill level is that
first of all the general does not punish her for her actions. Second, she is sent to work as a spy for a job
only a woman could do. Lastly, before she even goes to war she has to do all the work for the house
instead of her father.
When Sarah is discovered as a girl by her doctor and general she is not discharged. This is because she
has shown prowess on the battlefield and in the hospital tent as well. On the battlefield, she had the
courage to shoot a cavalry officer instead of one of the footmen, and she aimed the shot perfectly at
his heart. This shows how she is able to take charge and to stay calm in a hectic situation. She had the
peace of mind to get on a knee aim the gun and fire a fatal shot to the heart. furthermore, while in both
places she had to hide the fact that she was a girl while surrounded by men. In the hospital she tried
not to get sick by taking the bitters which is a medicine to prevent smallpox so she wouldn t be
examined by Dr.Hammond, the doctor at that hospital tent. Lastly, she volunteers to go a 5 mile trip
through some rebel territory to get morphine for the injured men. This shows how she is dedicated to
helping her brothers in arms who are in need of medical care. This is one

How Bellamira Is Not A Social Agent
into consideration is that Bellamira is not a social agent that could freely take her earnings and live a

submit to Pilia Borza a man who has complete control of her. Similarly, to Abigail who is controlled
by her father, Pilia Borza is the male dominant figure that asserts his power over the decisions and
body of Bellamira. Moreover, Pilia Borza appears to be the only one to benefit from her sexual
encounters. One specific example of Bellamira being used for her body is when she must do all the

Unfortunately, for Bellamira her body is used to fulfill the sexual desires of Ithamore, while Pilia
Borza does not have to sell his body, or even do anything. His job is simply to collect from the work
of Bellamira. Thus, Marlowe suggests that a woman s body and sensuality belongs to men because
they are the ones that get to charge/ benefit from such transaction. Despite the fact that Marlowe
allows for Bellamira to supposedly acquire a sense of agency by suggesting she is part of the scheme,
she is actually not gaining anything. In order to calculate such loss, the reader needs to put into
perspective the cost versus the benefits. Although her gain could be the money she stole from
Ithamore, she is limited to what she could do because society rejects her. The reason why we know
this is that the text informs the reader that women who are courtesans or prostitutes are negatively
labeled. To start of, everyone seems to know who these women are because they dress a certain way.
This is seen when Ithamore states, O, the sweetest face that evr I beheld! I know she is a courtesan by
her attire. Now would I give a hundred of the Jew s crowns that I had such a concubine (Marlowe 28).
This quote informs the reader that Bellamira is shunned by society because her occupation forces her
to distinguish herself from all other ladies. Even if a woman believes she is successful because she is
able to make her own money, she is still subjected to distinction and isolation.

that invade upon our rights are punished. The severity of this punishment depends upon how harshly

Pope Vs. Illinois Case Study
For this weeks discussion post I chose the Supreme Court case of Pope v. Illinois (1987). This case has
several values that make it significant in the field of obscenity and the First Amendment. Referring
back to Miller v. California and how it set the standard for identifying obscene material not protected
by the First Amendment, some portions are a bit more obscure than others. Take the third or value
prong of the three part test to determine whether the work, taken as a whole, lacks serious literary,
artistic, political, or scientific value. Prior to this case it was unclear how to exactly assess whether a
work lacked serious literary, artistic, political or scientific value, but when two attendants at adult
bookstores were charged with obscenity under Illinois law by selling certain magazines to undercover
police, they moved to dismiss on grounds that the then current version of the Illinois obscenity statute
violated the First and Fourteenth Amendments. The judge in both trials instructed the jury that in ...

in it all is that the Supreme Court overturned the initial ruling that the community standard was
inappropriate for determining whether a work had value . Another twist is that this is considered
symbolic speech as the clerks are expressing their political opinions of freedom of speech by selling

We live in a country where all children go to school to gain an education and 25% of them will go
onto receive some type of college degree. Compare this to low income countries, in which children are
16 times as likely to die prior to their fifth birthday (Nickitas, Middaugh Aries, 2016). Beyond the lens
of our smartphones, Facebook friends and Nike sneakers is a world full of desperate people wishing to
have enough food to eat for today. Many parts of the world lack sanitation, safe housing, sparse
medical care and no medication. The global health issue are everyone s problems not only for the sake
of altruism but, with the increase in global travel for routine business and pleasure, dangerous
pathogen are no longer confine by boarders. The Ebola outbreak four years ago, proved the necessity
of a global solution to global health issues. The collaborative practice of several world health agencies
and economically developed countries along with the use of volunteers, statistical updates, the latest
literature and practices kept this outbreak mostly contained to its region of origin and the death toll to
approximately 11,000 people (mainly in West Africa) (WHO,

Literary Works Of The Harlem Renaissance
As a young girl in Portland, Ore., Renée Watson immersed herself in the words of Langston Hughes,
discovering that his poems about black identity mirrored experiences in her own life. Since moving to
Harlem more than a decade ago, she has often walked by his old home a three story brownstone on
East 127th Street with cast iron railings and overgrown ivy.
The author spent his final 20 years, and wrote some of the most notable literary works of the Harlem
Renaissance, in this house. It was designated a historic landmark in 1981. Yet in recent years, the
property has remained empty. A performance space opened in 2007 but closed when the tenants were
evicted about a year later. In 2010, the current owner listed the house for $1 million but found no
buyers.
With her neighborhood experiencing rapid gentrification, Ms. Watson, 38, an author and poet, felt that
too many crucial landmarks of the Harlem Renaissance, like Mr. Hughes s home, were disappearing or
going unnoticed.
It feels like, whether it s intentional or not, our stories are being erased, Ms. Watson said.
So, after a year s worth of planning, she began to preserve the legacy of the house herself. She began a
nonprofit organization, persuaded the owner to let her lease and renovate the brownstone, and started
raising the money necessary to do so.
If she can successfully open Mr. Hughes s home and maintain it as a public space, it would be a
notable feat, especially in New York City, some preservationists say.

Federal Information Security Management Act
Federal Information Security Management Act (F.I.S.M.A.)
As government agencies began to realize that their corporate and customer information was not as
private and as safe as they had advertised, they called upon The National Institute of Standards and
Technology (NIST) to construct a set of guideline to control and protect information security. The
growing need to safeguard such information caused agencies, particularly government agencies, to
seek assistance collectively to avoid security breach escalations.
A September 2000 Report to the Chairman, Subcommittee on Government Management, Information
and Technology, Committee on Government Reform, House of Representatives: Information Security
Serious and Widespread Weaknesses Persist at Federal Agencies concluded the following:
Evaluations of computer security published since July 1999 continue to show that federal computer
security is fraught with weaknesses and that, as a result, critical operations and assets continue to be at
risk. As in 1998, our current analysis identified significant weaknesses in each of the 24 agencies
covered by our review. Since July 1999, the range of weaknesses in individual agencies has
broadened, at least in part because the scope of audits being performed is more comprehensive than in
prior years. While these audits are providing a more complete picture of the security problems
agencies face, they also show that agencies have much work to do to ensure that their security
programs are

Analysis Of Loving V. Virginia
The movie Loving is based off of the court case Loving v. Virginia. Even after the Civil Rights act of
1964 that outlawed discrimination based on race, origin, and religion, had not yet edified the question
of marriage. States, such as Virginia, still imposed a ban on interracial marriages. The charges against
the protagonists, Mildred and Richard Loving, spiked my interest because of the enhanced step taken
by society as was taken in modern times during the same sex marriage case Obergefell v. Hodges. The
court during the twentieth century was forced to question our evolving standards of decency and
define our Constitutional rights given to us by Equal Protection and Due Process laws of the fifth and
fourteenth amendment. The prosecution in Loving v. Virginia had to display their reasoning for their
holding by under the levels of scrutiny in the Equal Protection Clause. The defense had to prove there
was inconsistent levels of scrutiny, a lack of compelling governmental interest, and that marriage was
a fundamental right. Once proven, the institution of marriage, licensing, and recognition of interracial
couples was Constitutionally protected.
II. Plot Line: In 1958 Virginia residents Mildred Jeter and Richard Loving, a white man and black
woman, traveled to Washington D.C. and obtained a marriage license. Upon returning to Virginia the
Lovings established a homestead in Caroline County. That same year, the county issued an indictment
against the Lovings for

Comparing Two Short Story
Comparing Two Short Story Characters
Almost everyone from different culture that lives in another country has some issues when trying to
raise their family. For me, that im living this experience, it s a little difficult to adapt in the society. But
when I read the short story Everyday Use and the A pair of tickets I find myself. Because I feel
inspired by these two stories, I choose to compare the character of Dee and June May Woo.
First of all, when comparing these two characters I found some similarities because Dee is an African
American and June is American Chinese. Moreover, they seem to have the same family issue because
they fight a lot with their parents. Also, both of them don t want to follow their traditions because they

Psychological Manipulation In 1984 And V For Vendetta
The Effects of Psychological Manipulation in 1984 and V for Vendetta
It is believed that complete government authority is only possible through coercion and deceit. In both
George Orwell s book, 1984, and James McTeigue s film, V for Vendetta, abusive and deceptive
tactics are used by oppressive governments in order to change the behaviours and perceptions of their
citizens. This is done to ensure that there are no acts of rebellion that challenge their sovereignty.
Despite the similarity between these two dystopian societies, however, psychological manipulation is
more effective in 1984 than in V for Vendetta because of the absence of laws, staged acts of terrorism,
and lack of religious belief.
In Orwell s novel, the absence of laws creates paranoia among citizens of Oceania, whereas the laws
set forth by Norsefire, the governing body in V for Vendetta, allow citizens to have more freedom in
their thoughts and actions. Thus, it is evident that INGSOC, the government in 1984, has more success
in refraining citizens from rebelling. In Oceania, nothing [is] illegal, since there [are] no longer any
laws (Orwell 8). This means INGSOC has unlimited power to do as they feel against any offence they
deem punishable. Because of the fact that there are no written laws, citizens are unable to defend their
innocence. This results in an immense fear among civilians to do anything out of routine or have
rebellious thoughts. Even a nervous tic, an unconscious look of anxiety, [or] a

  • 5. Bridges And Their Types Bridges Essay BRIDGES AND THEIR TYPES Highway Bridges Bridges are an essential part of the transport infrastructure. General Information: A bridge is a means by which a road, railway or other service is carried over an obstacle such as a river, valley, and other road or railway line, either with no intermediate support or with only a limited number of supports at convenient locations. Fig: Docklands Light Rail Bridge, London, England. Basic features of bridges: Superstructure `The superstructure of a bridge is the part directly responsible for carrying the road or other service. Its layout is determined largely by the disposition of the service to be carried. In most cases, there is a deck structure that carries the loads from the individual wheels and distributes the loads to the principal structural elements, such as beams spanning between the substructure supports. Road bridges carry a number of traffic lanes, in one or two directions, and may also carry footways. At the edge of the bridge, parapets are provided for the protection of vehicles and people. Rail bridges typically carry two tracks, laid on ballast, although separate superstructures are often provided for each track. They are narrow (about 2m wide) and are usually single span structures that rarely span more than 40m. Substructure: The substructure of a bridge is responsible for supporting the superstructure and carrying the loads to the ground through foundations. We tend to jump onto a bandwagon because it seems easiest or because of one personal scenario. This is one of the main causes for prejudice and injustice. How a person reacts to being oppressed may bring out another side of them, but this side is their true self. This reaction speaks of his or her morals, ethics, and values. To these people, all the perpetrators appear the same, but it is known that while some may easily go along with it, some may choose to stand above it all. The concepts referenced to earlier will be soon elaborated on in further analysis as this essay goes on. It is human nature to assume certain ideas about certain people and it is also human nature to love and trust wholeheartedly. These two aspects of our species collide when the terms prejudice and injustice are involved. If one person had a certain relationship with someone different than themselves in some way, they will most likely come in contact with someone who they feel the need to share this event with. This person will most likely be trusted and respected by the storyteller and listen to/believe everything they say. This is lead to rumors and soon becoming a prejudice because there might be multiple acting this certain way. Although it does very frequently, this should not lead people to jump to conclusions about a general group. This soon leads to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, the nature of the negotiation, being a simulation, made it difficult to measure the veracity of the anchoring effect since the payoffs (70%, 80%, 90% and 100%) were known fixed variables. The general information provided explicitly stated the MGMT and CONTR conflicting stance on the integrative issue, so neither parties gained valuable information from the first or counter offer. Furthermore, following negotiations could not be made in increments less than 10% so my conjectured capacity to frame and control the negotiation was greatly inhibited. Intra group conflicts emerged in the last joint conference, consequently evoking apprehension and vulnerability. The CONTR s outrageous proposal, to accept a supposed $7.00 share price at the expense of all other parties, seemingly appealed to the MGMT. MGMT also hinted thoughts of compromising support for USA based employment in exchange for a longer term management contract. Cohesion within the coalition quickly deteriorated, and increasing pressure was put on my role to compromise with CONTR for a better joint outcome. Simon s (1979) notion of satisficing for an acceptable but inferior payoff, in the face of uncertainty, became apparent in my own negotiation attempts. Nixon used these guide lining principles to steer his way in the short 48 hour period he had to compose his speech. The principal way these purposes were achieved was through the application of the three Aristotelian modes of proof: ethos, pathos and logos (Cathcart 45). The primary Aristotelian proof Nixon used to appeal to his audience was ethos, or credibility. For the majority of the scene, the camera is fixed in one position on Frances and Dan through a mid shot as they are seated on the couch. This shot size is framed around the subjects for a measure of distance (Bordwell and Thompson, 2008). It is a tight frame, with a tight fix on the subjects. This communicates to the audience that these two are a couple and they are very comfortable with eachother and have been for a long time. The depth of field and focus range is very slim. This is a result of the distance between the closet and farthest objects in the scene being very small. The Girl in Blue is set in 1861, and is about a Michigan native by the name of Sarah Louisa. She is about to be forced to marry a man of her abusive father s choice when she decides to run away and join the army. She joins the army under the ruse that she is a boy and participates in the battle of Bull Run but her gender is eventually found out by her doctor and general. She is not punished for her actions but discharged and sent to work as a spy for the Pinkerton agency. She is sent to spy on a southern ally who is under house arrest to find out how she is sending messages to the south. She discovers how and is rewarded with a break. She travels home to find her abusive father had died and her sister is betrothed to the man she ran from. She leaves to go back to her job as a spy and that is where the story ends. Some of the reasons the theme could be gender not affecting skill level is that first of all the general does not punish her for her actions. Second, she is sent to work as a spy for a job only a woman could do. Lastly, before she even goes to war she has to do all the work for the house instead of her father. When Sarah is discovered as a girl by her doctor and general she is not discharged. This is because she has shown prowess on the battlefield and in the hospital tent as well. On the battlefield, she had the courage to shoot a cavalry officer instead of one of the footmen, and she aimed the shot perfectly at his heart. Despite the fact that Marlowe allows for Bellamira to supposedly acquire a sense of agency by suggesting she is part of the scheme, she is actually not gaining anything. In order to calculate such loss, the reader needs to put into perspective the cost versus the benefits. Although her gain could be the money she stole from Ithamore, she is limited to what she could do because society rejects her. The reason why we know this is that the text informs the reader that women who are courtesans or prostitutes are negatively labeled. In 2010, the current owner listed the house for $1 million but found no buyers. With her neighborhood experiencing rapid gentrification, Ms. Watson, 38, an author and poet, felt that too many crucial landmarks of the Harlem Renaissance, like Mr. Hughes s home, were disappearing or going unnoticed. It feels like, whether it s intentional or not, our stories are being erased, Ms. Watson said. So, after a year s worth of planning, she began to preserve the legacy of the house herself. She began a nonprofit organization, persuaded the owner to let her lease and renovate the brownstone, and started raising the money necessary to do so. If she can successfully open Mr. Hughes s home and maintain it as a public space, it would be a notable feat, especially in New York City, some preservationists say. ... • 44. Federal Information Security Management Act Federal Information Security Management Act (F.I.S.M.A.) As government agencies began to realize that their corporate and customer information was not as private and as safe as they had advertised, they called upon The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to construct a set of guideline to control and protect information security. The growing need to safeguard such information caused agencies, particularly government agencies, to seek assistance collectively to avoid security breach escalations. A September 2000 Report to the Chairman, Subcommittee on Government Management, Information and Technology, Committee on Government Reform, House of Representatives: Information Security Serious and Widespread Weaknesses Persist at Federal Agencies concluded the following: Evaluations of computer security published since July 1999 continue to show that federal computer security is fraught with weaknesses and that, as a result, critical operations and assets continue to be at risk. As in 1998, our current analysis identified significant weaknesses in each of the 24 agencies covered by our review. Since July 1999, the range of weaknesses in individual agencies has broadened, at least in part because the scope of audits being performed is more comprehensive than in prior years. While these audits are providing a more complete picture of the security problems agencies face, they also show that agencies have much work to do to ensure that their security programs are ... • 45. Analysis Of Loving V. Virginia The movie Loving is based off of the court case Loving v. Virginia. Even after the Civil Rights act of 1964 that outlawed discrimination based on race, origin, and religion, had not yet edified the question of marriage. States, such as Virginia, still imposed a ban on interracial marriages. The charges against the protagonists, Mildred and Richard Loving, spiked my interest because of the enhanced step taken by society as was taken in modern times during the same sex marriage case Obergefell v. Hodges. The court during the twentieth century was forced to question our evolving standards of decency and define our Constitutional rights given to us by Equal Protection and Due Process laws of the fifth and fourteenth amendment. The prosecution in Loving v. Virginia had to display their reasoning for their holding by under the levels of scrutiny in the Equal Protection Clause. The defense had to prove there was inconsistent levels of scrutiny, a lack of compelling governmental interest, and that marriage was a fundamental right. Once proven, the institution of marriage, licensing, and recognition of interracial couples was Constitutionally protected. II. Plot Line: In 1958 Virginia residents Mildred Jeter and Richard Loving, a white man and black woman, traveled to Washington D.C. and obtained a marriage license. Upon returning to Virginia the Lovings established a homestead in Caroline County. That same year, the county issued an indictment against the Lovings for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Psychological Manipulation In 1984 And V For Vendetta The Effects of Psychological Manipulation in 1984 and V for Vendetta It is believed that complete government authority is only possible through coercion and deceit. In both George Orwell s book, 1984, and James McTeigue s film, V for Vendetta, abusive and deceptive tactics are used by oppressive governments in order to change the behaviours and perceptions of their citizens. This is done to ensure that there are no acts of rebellion that challenge their sovereignty. Despite the similarity between these two dystopian societies, however, psychological manipulation is more effective in 1984 than in V for Vendetta because of the absence of laws, staged acts of terrorism, and lack of religious belief. In Orwell s novel, the absence of laws creates paranoia among citizens of Oceania, whereas the laws set forth by Norsefire, the governing body in V for Vendetta, allow citizens to have more freedom in their thoughts and actions. Thus, it is evident that INGSOC, the government in 1984, has more success in refraining citizens from rebelling. In Oceania, nothing [is] illegal, since there [are] no longer any laws (Orwell 8). This means INGSOC has unlimited power to do as they feel against any offence they deem punishable. Because of the fact that there are no written laws, citizens are unable to defend their innocence. This results in an immense fear among civilians to do anything out of routine or have rebellious thoughts. Even a nervous tic, an unconscious look of anxiety, [or] a ...
