CALIFORNIA CREDIT LIFE INSURANCE
CASE WAC
Problem Analysis
MOTIVATION OF SOME LEADING TO DEMOTIVATION OF SOME FOLLOWED BY
DISCRIMINATION
Through analyzing the California Credit Life Insurance Group it could be seen that the company is
facing some serious issues regarding the gender biases within the company. Though the
management believes in equal employment opportunity EEO, the executives have faced some issues
related to sexual discrimination which is turning into bad reputation for the company.
A case was filed against James Bradford, a sales manager from the southern region by a sales rep
from the same region reporting against sexual discrimination. The management took a serious action
in resolving this issue that would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover it can be analyzed from the exhibit that all the men were the highest paid candidates.
Therefore CCLI needs to look after these problems so that they could avoid the negative image of
the company and reduce internal discrimination that is leading to ethical issues.
If we look at exhibit 5, we can see that the South region is doing much worse that the total company.
If we concentrate on the females in this exhibit, they are not happy with their job as the job
satisfaction index is at 45% they are not content with their fellow workers as the index stands at a
49%. They are surely not happy with their supervisor which is Bradford in this case because the
index is the lowest in this field and stands at 41%. We can see that the men are pretty much happy
and satisfied with promotion and advancement because the index for men stands at 59% while for
females it stands at only 48%. In this case all the number speak much louder than the text.
Recommendations
We have discussed the issues above regarding the company, our first recommendation to the
company is that the company should take care of equal employment opportunities for every sales
rep regardless of their gender. By looking at the case facts we can say that they do have the equal
employment opportunity but only for the hiring process and once the women are hired they are not
treated or compensated equally. The benefits and

Essay on Acton-Burnett Summary
BUS 160
Acton – Burnett: Case Analysis Questions
Response by Fermions
1. What differences, if any, exist between the problems that the task force has been asked to address
and the "real" problems?
Two Vice Presidents for the company Keene and Ryan come to the conclusion that a task force must
be created to make sense of the final forecast and product demand forecast that the four marketing
managers created. The task force found many problems some being systematic bias and that it
seemed information was being withheld. In the end at the presentation it becomes obvious that the
problems were poorly done incorrect forecasting and a collaboration to prevent people from
becoming aware of it, by withholding information and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Main reason was due to the fact that its lacked top management support. Therefore it was no
surprise that Baker found the initial meeting to be less than satisfying. This due to the fact that the
selection was put together basically in two methods, first using employee members under those
whom would most likely be most beneficial to the forecasting task force, such as project managers
instead of marketing managers; Special asst. to the VP of Sales rather then the Vice President of
Sales himself etc. Secondly, they select a few whom they thought would bring balance as well as
contribute to the team. However, both methods didn't seem to be an appropriate choice as Schraftt
and the project members were nearly contributing in the initial meeting and later they felt
uncomfortable to presentation towards the possibly of offending or creating an awkwardness
position towards their boss/ managers.
Therefore, such selection should not withhold members from feeling insecure and should freely
allow each individual to express themselves and contribute to the team. A possible method of
selecting task members is to concentrate on the main focuses and including the possible leaders of
each focuses. By doing so, these should be the most knowledgeable personnel in the organization
whom is most familiar with the area and would be the best candidate to contribute. However, often
times this may mean that

Bash Chair Research Paper
The Bash Chair position is more than another title to add to my resume. This position would give
me a chance to fully understand the culture of UTA as I direct my peers through the workings of an
awesome event. Our campus teaches thousands of people every day, many of whom I may not have
a chance to meet through happenstance. Nonetheless, I believe November's Bash is a wonderful
opportunity for students of all backgrounds to come together in the name having fun and our
collective love for UTA. Serving as the Bash Chair will allow me to create connections with people
and cultures I never thought I would encounter while leading our community through a wonderful
tradition. The Bash leadership experience, through leading student and Arlington community
involvement while facilitating teamwork, will help me expand my open–minded view of the world,
a valuable lesson enforced outside of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The experience of working with such a great team will help me to further identify the value of my
peers' opinions and the importance of representing UTA well. I hope to cultivate appreciation of
what my peers have to offer, no matter how different our background may be. Serving as The Bash
Chair requires constant engagement and representation of UTA students. These circumstances will
help me expand my understanding of our communities and culture. I would love to lead the process
of traditionally outstanding, family–friendly events. In the past, I have worked on behalf of large
organizations so I am familiar with constantly sending out emails and phone calls to gain potential
sponsorship for school events. Additionally, I have exceptional time–management skills that I have
cultivated over my career in public education which I can easily leverage into managing student
volunteers and connecting with other student organizations. I enjoy connecting with people to

Team Coordination Case Study
3) Evaluation: My role was to supervise the junior for their actions, communicate with them set up
the meeting. While evaluating the situation, I reviewed several literatures regarding team
coordination and how it can be improved. A study by Harris, Treanor and Salisbury (2013, pp.560),
reveals that the coordination between staff member is very challenging as the opinion of one
individual may not match to another individual, personality clashes, lack of communication, feeling
of superiority, feeling of ashamed in front of colleague if something went wrong may disbalance the
coordination between team member. Furthermore, in any health care setting team work and
coordination is associated with the positive patient outcome. This is supported ... Show more

The answer to this question is changing my perception and applying the Covey 7 habit of highly
effective people because it provides insight to any problem. I will try to become more proactive to
minimize those problem and I will prioritize the things according to its importance. Furthermore, I
will begin with the end, at first, I will clear all doubts and research to know the main cause of the
problem and then starts to think about its management. In the past, I have experienced things to be
done to achieve a vision that I have been imagined of. So, in future I will never repeat the same
mistake. I will never neglect the situation and will acknowledge every small detail as the small
negligence can further deteriorate the situation. Before, I believed in every member without
knowing their knowledge and abilities. Therefore, before trusting any staff we should know their
capabilities. If they are not well skilled and knowledgeable then in the future I will plan the in–
service education, classes from expertise. I will arrange the staff meeting so that the staff can say
about their problem so that timely it can be managed. In the past, I failed to manage the personality
clash between member so in the future I will try to know the personal and professional life of each
staff. I will value and respect every individual

Retirement Is An Important Life Transition
Retirement is recognised as being an important life transition (Szinovacz, 1980), associated with a
number of adjustments including social roles, income and daily routine adaption's (Pinquart &
Schindler, 2007). Although there is no single definition of what retirement is within existing
literature (Denton & Spencer, 2009), it can arguably be best understood as an subjective journey
involving a psychosocial transition rather than a single event of exiting work or an objective life
transition (Matour & Prout, 2007, Kim & Moen, 2002). Future retirees consider retirement to be a
huge decision where they envisage what their daily life would be after exiting the work force, as
well as the physical and emotional effort to make the transition ... Show more content on

However, due to the limited qualitative research, quantitative research has been supplemented to
provide an understanding of the retirement transition. Even though quantitative literature will be
reviewed, a critical stance is taken due to the different assumptions and philosophical underpinnings
which are highlighted throughout.
Firstly, retiree's can experience some losses during the retirement transition. It can be suggested that
work is more than just bringing home an income (Kleiber & Linde, 2014). For example, many
individuals significantly identify with a work role which may have implications when adjusting to
retirement life. Osborne (2012) suggests during the retirement transition, individuals can experience
partial identity disruption. Identity refers to "cognitive and effective meanings that an individual
attributes to one's self in a role" (Reitzes & Mutran, 2006, p. 336). One explanation of this
disruption is provided by role theory (George, 1993) which suggests individuals' former roles within
employment may form an integral part of their identity (Price, 2003). Therefore, it is suggested that
psychological distress can occur due to the loss in retiree's previous work role which may disrupt
their identity (Kim & Moen, 2002). However,

The Breakfast Club : A Group Role In The Breakfast Club
1)A group role is the part a member plays in a group, as a function of your traits, personality, your
expectation, expectations of others in the group. and who you are as an individual. Each member in
the Breakfast Club has had an input into the story line and there are multiple characters with
different roles, inputs and circumstances and all of them interacting to make this film quite
interesting. Lets start off with the most deviant of them all.

Claire– being the beautiful and popular girl in the equation, she has an act for attention and was a
great influence in the problems of the group, mostly by Bender making fun of here, and everyone
mostly Claire and Andrew reacting. Some of the group roles that claire portrays are some task roles
such as clarifying. She would state to Bender who was always being mean to her should sit down
and be quite or that Mr. Vernon would catch him messing around and cause even more mayhem. She
would even showcase maintenance roles such as harmonizing and relieving tension. When bender
would make a messing by being outlandish she'll tell him to shut up and be quite and when here and
bender were alone in the closet they would take to each other and as well exchange a hickey, but one
of the greatest roles she played was the withdrawing role. When Bender and Allison were pressuring
her to reveal if she was a virgin she would avoid the question or not even say anything at all for for
of them finding out. She did eventually say that she was a virgin but was heavy pressure by the
group.

Effects Of Stress In France Comcomlecom
Stress in the Workplace My reaction to the situation with France Telecom is that it is a tragedy, no
organization should be ok with any of their employees being stressed to the point of wanting to kill
themselves. Which reminded me of our previous discussion about job satisfaction. I don't think any
job is worth the stress that the employees of France Telecom had to endure, no matter how much
money the employees are making. I also thought, this is an important public/global health issue that
needs to be addressed.
What went wrong at France Telecom?
I believe there are more factors to consider than what was included in this case, but with the
information given, the internal factors were mainly poor management, such as the chairman Didier
Lombard. According to BBC news, "Mr. Lombard announced plans to cut 22,000 jobs and move
another 14,000 workers, as France Telecom pushed for greater efficiency in the wake of
privatization, two years earlier." (N/A, 2016) This was the main contributor to the extremely high
levels of stress the employees were under. When deciding to make changes in the organization, the
company was using psychological pressure and pathogenic restructuring that caused the employees
immense stress and the feeling of insecurity in the face of globalization. They felt insignificant to
the company and the way they were pressured and treated created huge role conflict and overload. I
believe that it is the manager's job to make sure that the work environment is

Mental Health And Substance Abuse Disorders
Introduction
Policy makers and researchers have paid attention to behavioral health problems due to significant
burden of morbidity and disability, as well as health care cost. The term behavioral health refers to a
state of mental or emotional being and choices and actions that affect wellness. It encompasses both
mental health and substance use, including such as depression, substance abuse or misuse, serious
psychological distress, and suicide (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration,
2011). In 2012, an estimated 16 million adults aged 18 or older in the U.S. had at least one major
depressive episode in the past year. This represented 6.9 percent of all U.S. adults (Substance Abuse
and Mental Health Services Administration, 2013). People with mental and substance abuse
disorders may find difficulties to maintain interpersonal relations, find and sustain employment, and
care for themselves and family members because behavioral health problem may affect individual's
ability to function in daily life. Although mental health problems are both common and important in
general population, they are especially common in women than men (Substance Abuse and Mental
Health Services Administration, 2013), and in particular in individuals who are socially
disadvantaged (Heflin & Iceland, 2009).
Although a variety of factors are related to psychological wellbeing among low–income women,
decades of research find poverty to be a correlate of behavioral health problem

Gary Kielhofner : The Model Of Human Occupational Behavior
The Model of Human Occupation (MOHO was created by Gary Kielhofner in the 1980s. The model
has been revised and refined since then, by other occupational therapists. This model is focused on a
person's occupations and helps to explain how disability and related problems can come about. The
model is thought to be client–centered, based on evidence, and holistic by concentrating on the
person as a whole. The model emphasizes both the client's mind and body in addition to putting
further emphasis on occupational performance, rather than emphasizing the performance
components. Likewise, the environment plays a role in the model and can assist in opportunities of
better occupational performance. The Model of Human Occupation interprets people as being a
system. The collaboration of the human as a system, the task, and the environment produces the
outcome of occupational behavior. This is expressed according to the dynamic systems theory.
Occupational performance is dynamic because it effects the health, well–being, improvement, and
modification of the system. According to the Model of Human Occupation, the human system is
continually fluctuating and restructuring itself through engagement of the surroundings.
There are many basic assumptions, explained by this model, to help understand the complexity of
human occupation. Humans are dynamic systems. Components of the human system work
collectively to construct behavior. Behavior continuously changes in order to coincide with the

George Babbitt's Characters And Conformist Social Roles
Secondly, the characters experience conformist social roles. George Babbitt conforms to the social
role of being a father and husband. In Babbitt's society it is expected for men to be the bread–winner
of the family and also to be faithful to his wife even if they are out of love. Babbitt is experiencing
the social stress from conforming to appear the best possible husband and father he can be. George
is out of love with his wife. He met Myra Babbitt when he was in college and he did not even love
her to begin with. He believed he should marry her because she was a honest and a "good wife"
(Lewis 81) material. Most men and women married either married for money or that they felt
obligated to marry someone to because it is expected of them.
Their marriage grew to become boring which tends to happen in most marriages. Instead of George
leaving Myra he stays, because he feels it is his moral obligation to do so. Hence, he is out of love it
leads him to temptation. Babbitt imagines a "fairy child" (Lewis 5). He uses the fairy child as his
escape form reality. He knows he cannot morally cheat on his wife, therefore he imagines a life
without her with other women. The first woman he imagines being with is McGoun (describe her
from the book). The second woman he imagines being with is Eunice (describe her from the book).
The third woman is (look her up). All these women resemble what he wishes his wife could be like,
McGoun is a worker, Eunice is young, and the last one is lively, Myra is none of these things. Myra
has the social life of being a housewife. She plans dinners, she reads magazine, her children do not
pay attention, and her husband does not love her. While George is going through struggle of being
faithful, he eventually gives up and cheats on Myra. The social role is his playing is such a burden
on him that he cracks under pressure and does not care what people think of his scandalous ways.
While he is having this newfound revolution, Myra is also having her own revolution. She becomes
more lively and appears younger and George falls in love with her again. George discovers that he is
allowed to have his type of fun without his wife but also be able to take care and love Myra which is
social role as a

Internal And External Factors Of Role Stress
The transition from expert registered nurse to novice nurse practitioner includes inherent challenges
in adjusting from one practice role to the next (Barnes, 2015). There are both internal and external
factors that combine to create this difficulty in role transition. External factors that define the role of
nurse practitioner contribute to this challenge by creating role stress. Internal conflicts regarding
new roles create role strain (Dreher and Smith, 2017). These two sets of factors taken together have
a profound effect on successful role transition. Role stress has been defined throughout sociological
literature as occurring due to the expectations placed on an individual. The requirements and
expectations of performing a role ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Data was then analyzed to establish themes in the experiences of these new NPs. Finally, this data
was used to create a schema of the first year of NP practice. This includes four stages: laying the
foundation, launching, meeting the challenge, and broadening the perspective (Brown and
Olshansky, 1997). While their paper does not specifically discuss the concepts of role stress and role
strain, the ideas are key to the launching stage. In the interviews reported in Brown and Olshansky's
work the participants report role strain. Evidence for this occurs in participant statements such as, "I
have this profound insecurity...and I feel like I 'm faking it." This indicates the internal angst of
perceived incompetence. Role stress is also supported by participant statements, such as "I 'm the
one who holds up the clinic," that demonstrate the external stressors applied to new NPs. The
authors' conclusions also support the idea that external demands create role stress and that internal
anxieties demonstrate role strain (1997). More support for the significance of role strain during the
transition to nurse practitioner comes from an article in the Journal of Professional Nursing. This
article cites anxiety, stress, and emotional turmoil as characteristic of the RN to NP role change
(Poronsky, 2013). Rather than focusing on the concept of role stain Poronsky's article "Exploring
the transition from registered

Teams and Team Processes: Group Dynamics Essay
Abstract
Teams are often depicted as a group of people sharing leadership of and working together on a
specific project, whereas a group (but not a team) consists of individuals who work independently
and are led by a strong, focused individual (Erofeev, Glazer, & Ivanitskaya, 2009). In the health care
organization, it is important to have a group of people working together as a well a team. Each
person individually need to fully understand what his or her role is in a group or team, if not there
will be conflicts. Teams and Team Processes: Group Dynamics

After further review of the case study, conflict management among team members needs to be
addressed. Resolving conflict can often be like a constant balancing act among the opposing needs
and interests; conflict can be unpleasant and stressful (Haraway & Haraway III, 2005). Conflict
manage is essential for the success of healthcare organizations. Learning, as an organization, to
constructively manage and succeed in conflict situations is a foundational construct of leadership
and management (Ledlow, 2009). There are six different conflict styles: (1) accommodating, (2)
avoiding, (3) collaborating, (4) competing, (5) compromising and (6) problem solving. After reading
the case study, the surgical team is displaying conflict style of avoiding "potential disruption
outweighs the benefits of resolution, gathering information supersedes immediate decision making,
others can resolve the conflict more effectively and issues seem a result of other issues," (Ledlow,
2009). Instead of going to the Physician Assistant, Nurse B should feel comfortable speaking to the
surgeon with her questions and concerns.
In addition to displaying avoiding conflict style, Nurse B surgical team is also experiencing role
conflict. Role conflict arises when a focal person's ideas of his or her requirements are incongruent
with expectations from roles set members

The Presentation Of The Team Members Who Come From...
Teamwork was a really grateful process and significant experience in my Managing Organizations
and People course study. The teamwork training was very memorable. After more than two weeks of
running, there are many impressive events that happened. From those events, I felt change and also
helped develop myself in some areas. In this reflection essay, the main purpose is to find out
whether I was suitable to my other three team members who come from different cultures and
backgrounds, whether I have good leadership skills and teamwork skills and my individual
performance reflective. Like Levi (2007) has said that work in today 's society has become more
complex and includes more unconventional features and interdependence, it produced teamwork
out. So I will use the Gibbs model (Gibbs 1988) which incorporates description, feelings,
evaluation, analysis, conclusion and an action plan to discuss how our teamwork reflected on the
case study, prepare the group presentation and my individual performance reflective.
Description
Our team case context was provided by the classroom structure and professor. When we just got our
case topic, the boys of our team were really excited, but for girls who do not understand football is
really big bad news. At our first meeting, there were lots of difficulties occurring within our team. I
had no idea about what I can do; even I don't know the problem of the case, because each of us was
lack of communication, understanding and planning.

An Evolution Of User Participation
An Evolution of User Participation Roles in Software Development
We discuss in a little more detail the Struggle for Existence.
― Charles Darwin, The Origin of Species
Although information systems research has long recognized the crucial role of user participation in
developing better software, researchers have overlooked temporal dimension and dynamism
associated with participation. This study contributes a new scholarly conversation on the
longitudinal processes around how users influence software development in dynamic ways and how
software organizations enable them to do so. Using a multi–year qualitative inquiry, we develop an
evolutionary approach that theorizes user participation roles at different stages of development with
three concepts of 'inheritance', 'modification', and 'survival'. The evolutionary approach unpacks
how user participation roles are rooted deeply in the 'repetitive experience' and the 'co–evolution of
developers and users' over time. The results suggest software organizations should devote attention
to the changing roles of user participation at different stages of development and design appropriate
processes to support these roles. We discuss the important implications of evolutionary approach for
theories of participation and engagement and for software organizations attempting to operate in the
uncertain and rapidly changing context of software development.

The Power Of Power In Lord Of The Flies By William Golding
Power is a compelling thing isn't it? When asked about power one might respond that the president
has power or the queen or a politician. Power doesn't just come in one form, like a pass, fail class,
it's not that you're either powerful or not; it just doesn't work that way. Power comes in different
shapes and sizes, just like the people who hold it. The power of a role; being able to control
someone or not. Happens so often in our day to day life that we overlook it. Everyone has a boss or
a teacher who tells you what to do, but what happens when that starts to affect you morally? What
happens when they aren't just bossing you around and you know what they are doing is wrong but
society is in such a fixated state that you are overlooked because it has become a social norm. when
people conform to their role in society too much, they can lose who they are, which can lead to the
downfall of the people around them. In Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding, this can be
shown the best with Jack and his tribe.
In Lord of the Flies, a great example is Jack, a character quick to conform to his role as a leader and
a hunter. It even states "...while the most obvious leader was Jack." (Golding 22). At this point Jack
hasn't conformed to a role yet and is a perfect candidate for chief. The boys chose Ralph anyways,
but Jack is given the role of lead hunter, a role Ralph will later regret giving. Though Jack was
content with his role as hunter and the role hadn't consumed

Master Status and Role Sets
The master status is "...a status that has special importance for social identity, often shaping a
person's entire life" (Macionis, 2013, p. 97). The master status that I most identify with as having
the biggest impact in my social identity is always being physically connected with my future wife
Kaisha as allowed by society either by holding hands, or other innocent ways of physically being
together, and the title of this particular description of a master status is, "one who is a part of that

master status such as playing the loving partner role, future husband role, caring friend role, and

At first we were met with "awww" and "how long have you guys been together". People were
surprised how often we held hands, but as time went on and they never saw us apart (literally...we
never stopped touching) the way people talked to us and treated us changed. We have lovers and
haters. Some people talk behind our backs, make comments, or just don't like us because of how we
are, but we have made many new friends because of this master status. People that I have never met
before will come up and encourage us not to listen to the hateful or discouraging words of others,
and tell us to keep going and keep doing what we're doing.
Some things get in the way of my master status: role conflicts. Kaisha interns (taking a professional
status) and obviously I'm not allowed to hold onto her while she is doing that. I also have to be not
as close with Kaisha when we are being the student (taking a student status) which is an example of
role conflict because we know we have to be apart in classes and labs, and such is the case when we

Anne Frank 's Time Of The Secret Annex
Anne Frank, born on June 12th, 1929, was a young–Jewish girl that lived in Amsterdam,
Netherlands. Anne lived a quiet life her small home with her father Otto, mother Edith, and her
sister Margot. She attended school, but was restricted due to her religious faith. Because Anne was
Jewish, she was unable to streetcars or any transportation, could only shop at specific times, and
forbidden to attend any form of entertainment. On July 19, 1942, her family moved to the Secret

In addition, another psychological influence that affected Anne's interpersonal communication with
those around her is biological cycle. In the beginning of her time in the Secret Annex, Anne began to
go through puberty. "I forgot to mention the important news that I'm probably going to get my
period soon. I can tell because I keep finding a whitish smear in my panties, and my Mother
predicted that it would start soon (59)". However, given her difficult relationship with her mother,
"...that's how her heart sank when she realized there was no more love between us (95)", she was
unable to tell her about this new discovery. This is an example of how a biological cycle affected her
interpersonal communication with her mother.
Furthermore, another psychological influence was Anne's development of trust. When in the Secret
Annex, Anne and her family relied on a number of people, such as Miep, Bep, and those within the
Annex, to keep their location secret, and for protection. For example, Anne's opinion of Dussel
changed when she found out he was keeping food from the rest of them. "It's absolutely disgraceful
that Dussel, whom we took in to save from the destruction, should stuff himself behind backs and
not give us anything (97)". In this instant, we can see that Anne lost her trust in Dussel. Later on,
she becomes bitter towards him, "Mr. Dussel makes up everything as he goes along, and anyone

Malvolio In William Shakespeare's Twelf
A role is the assumed function of a person or thing in different situations. Roles can be chosen, or
thrown upon someone. A great example of a character with many different roles is Malvolio from
William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. Malvolio can be characterized into having three different
roles; a servant–in–waiting, a "madman", and a victim to the play's tomfoolery.

Analysis Of Being Awesome: A Unified Theory Of How Not To...
In "Being Awesome: A Unified Theory of How Not to Suck", Nick Riggle, an author, and
philosopher discusses human behavior and emotions. What makes a person awesome and ways to
not to suck at what they do. Nick believed that in a person's point of view, being awesome is one of
the best feelings in the world, to be looked at as a person others would appreciate and aspired to be.
For example, you're in one of the hottest nightclubs in South Beach, Miami. The club is packed;
however, no one is dancing. Here is your chance to show out. As you get into the music, you dance
towards the middle of the dance floor and show off your best dance moves. The crowd looks at you

Application Of A Resident Assistant Essay
In February of 2016, I applied and was selected to be a Resident Assistant in Newman Towers here
at Loyola for the 2016–17 academic year by the Office of Student Life. The Student Life office can
be seen as a meso–level social unit in that it is a medium scale department within the greater Loyola
community that consists of a status system, which is a set of statuses. These statuses, which are
positions in a social unit, are achieved, since they were attained out of one's own action, and formal,
since the expectations of each status exist independent of the person who fills the social status. In
accepting this position, I achieved the formal status of a Resident Assistant and became an employee
of Student Life.
In assuming a certain status, one also assumes all of the expectations, obligations, and rights,
associated with that position in the social unit. Another word for these expectations is a role. In the
Office of Student Life, each status, such as the Director, an Assistant Director (AD), a Graduate
Resident Coordinator (GRC), or a Resident Assistant (RA), comes with a specific role set, which
consists of multiple associated roles within a given status. The term "role" is short for "role
relationship" due to the fact that any role defines a set of expectations towards another role. For
example, the roles of Resident Assistant are part of the relationship between Resident Assistant and
residents. A set of role relationships that make up a social unit forms a role

Health Care Is Continuously Changing. In The Past Several
Health care is continuously changing. In the past several years there has been a large shift in the
focus in hospitals. The focus has changed from the staff to patients, patient satisfaction, and cutting
costs in order to budget more tightly (Tarrant & Sabo, 2010). Because of this, along with the
extreme increase in a number of patients seen and the acuity of the patients, nurses are being
overworked. As a result, role conflict and ambiguity is becoming an issue. The purpose of this paper
is to discuss role conflict and ambiguity, its significance, and its application to nursing.
Significance of the Topic

Where there are role conflict and ambiguity there has always been poor job satisfaction. Role
conflict results when the worker is subjected to inconsistent expectations as a result of conflicting
demands from multiple roles. For example, conflict among providing good customer service, sales
quota, or budget limitations (Ghorpade & Lackritz, 2011). Role ambiguity takes place when the
worker lacks information that is needed for understanding the role and for performing up to its
expectation (Ghorpade & Lackritz, 2011).
A study was conducted on the campus of a major university, in which there were approximately nine
hundred participants who were full–time faculty members. Questionnaires were hand–delivered to
the head secretary of each department on campus, with the request to put one in the mailbox of each
full–time faculty member. A total of 263 faculty members responded to the survey. The
demographic breakdown for the sample was compared with that reported for the university
(Ghorpade & Lackritz, 2011).
Two established research sources for the role conflict and role ambiguity (Newton & Keenan, 1987;
and Rizzo, House, & Lirtzman, 1970) were used for this study. An examination of these two sources
reveals that while there was much overlap in their content, there were also slight variations in the
wording of some items. Rizzo et al., for example, introduced the item 'I know what my
responsibilities are' while Newton and Keenan

Mintzberg Roles Gap Analysis Paper
On completing Mintzberg Roles Gap analysis, I realized the need to be knowledgeable as a
Manager. To be knowledgeable there is a need to gather and process information. According to
Mintzberg Managerial Information –processing role, a manager needs to actively seek and passively
receive information. Leaders cannot succeed on their own; even the most outwardly confident
executives. They need support teams who counsel them in times of uncertainty (Bill George et al,
2007). Being knowledgeable as a Manager enables you to represent your organization to external
parties. Mintzberg's Managerial Interpersonal role states the need to direct and motivate
subordinates. These go a long way in promoting the growth of an organization. I have been able to
understand how decision making is also a significant role of a manager. According to Mintzberg,
decisional roles includes identifying opportunities to advance the organization, responding to crisis,
adequate resource distribution and represent the organization in important negotiations. I find the
Information roles of a Manager very important in a complex and changing workplace environment.

Prior to my experience I had given up on tasks that seemed too difficult to achieve and I always had
acceptable excuses for giving up. Looking back now, I know I could have put in more effort to
achieve them instead of just giving up. As a manager or leader, I should understand that
subordinates may also suffer from the lack of resilience to pull through a task, hence the need to
motivate them and empower them to think actively and be result–oriented. This is characterized by
transformational leadership. The Path Goal theory by Evans, House and Mitchell proposes that
'leaders motivate higher performance by acting in ways that influence subordinates to believe that
valued outcomes can be attained by making serious efforts' (Yukl,

Society Should Not Enforce Gender Roles On Women
"The worst thing you can call a girl is a girl. The worst thing you can call a guy is a girl. Being a
woman is the ultimate insult" (Valenti). Harper Lee was ahead of her time, and did all the things
society said she was not supposed to. From cutting her hair short, to going to law school and
eventually becoming a writer. All of these are examples of what women should not do in the 1960s..
She never married which even today is considered to be a woman's greatest accomplishment. Her
whole life she faced criticism for going against gender norms, but yet she did not conform to
society. In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird, Harper Lee introduces the idea that society should not
enforce gender roles on women, because she believes women should be able to express themselves
in their own way. In To Kill A Mockingbird, Scout is pressured to be ladylike despite how she
actually wants to express herself. Aunt Alexandra comes to live in the Finch household when she
thinks Atticus is not fit to raise the kids on his own. Part of the reason she moves in with them is
because she thinks Scout needs a role model to show her how to act like a lady. In the 1930s, it was
frowned upon if women wore pants, but this was something Scout loved to do. Aunt Alexandra did
not believe in the feminist movement that existed at the time. Which means she criticized Scout
when she wore overalls or pants. Scout was not a normal girl she is not interested in playing with
dolls or a kitchenette. Toys like these

Communication Competence In A Group
Communication competence is the first thing every new group member should understand before
beginning a group project. Communication competence is "considered very broadly as an
impression that behavior is appropriate and effective in a given context" (Spitzberg, 2000). This
includes being effective by having a wide range of behaviors and being in the "we", not "me"
mentality, being appropriate by complying with the group rules, have the knowledge to learn the
rules and know how to be a proper asset in your group, having empathy or being sensitive towards
your group members, staying committed to your group, and lastly being ethical. Our groups
communication was very competent. When it came to group decision making, there was no hint of
individuality, none of the members had a me mentality, but instead we all as a group put what we
wanted aside to agree on a board game that would be the most appropriate for the assignment. For
example, I wanted to play poker instead of monopoly but due to the fact that I was the only one in
our group that knew how to play poker I quickly agreed with monopoly. Furthermore, all the group
members showed commitment, and ethics. Many of us had a busy week schedule to include work
and other classes so when we were able to settle on a time and date for a meeting everyone stayed
committed to the schedule and arrived on time. While we had these group meetings and game nights
everyone in the group was respectful towards each other by not making any rude remarks or
aggressiveness when there was disagreement and being responsible by not attempting to cheat to
win
Group Climate is defined by Rothwell as "the emotional atmosphere, the enveloping tone that is
created by the way we communicate in groups" (105). Group's can have either positive or negative
climates. Our group displayed a positive climate. We treated each other well and fairly, we were all
flexible with our busy schedules in order to have group meetings and whenever someone had a last
minute work shift change interfering with out meeting we quickly reorganized without any harsh
feelings. Furthermore, our group showed a lot of supportive communication and almost no
defensive communication. We did not need to make any positive or

Relationship Between Coaches And Coaches
Relationships between Players and Coaches
According to ESPN, 61 percent of boys and 34 percent of girls say that sports are a big part of who
they are. Additionally, there are over 21 million kids between the ages of 6 and 17 that play sports
(Kelley). This enormous number not only represents children playing a sport but it also represents
something that each of those kids have in common: they each have a coach. There are three key
things involved in every sport: the players, the competition, and the coaches. Each of these parts of
the sport are important and necessary. Sports are not only a great way to exercise and keep fit, but
they also teach kids a lot of important qualities that they will need to be successful for the rest of
their lives. They teach them how to exercise, how to compete, how to work on a team, how to work
toward a goal, and how to develop and manage relationships. No relationship, however, is more
important than that between a coach and his/her player. A coach can be a player's role model and
inspiration but, unfortunately, a coach can also be a player's work enemy and can ruin a sport for an
athlete. Likewise, a player can either make a season enjoyable for his/her coach or can make the
season miserable. I will explore the importance of the relationship between coaches and players and
the effect that it can have on both parties.
The relationship that a player has with his/her coach is many times underestimated in how important
it truly is.

A Leadership Style And Interventions
Leadership style and interventions
A coach's leadership style can have a dramatic influence on the outcome of the coaching process. A
democratic leader coach promotes autonomy and growth in individuals when cooperation and
coordination is necessary (Marquis & Huston, 2012). Mutual decision–making and effective
communication are the hallmarks of this leadership style and will be beneficial to Molly as she
learns her new roles. A leadership style that is too strict (authoritarian) or too relaxed (laissez–faire)
would not suit Molly's learning needs (Marquis & Huston, 2012). Molly requires a supportive, yet
structured environment in which to become comfortable and to learn as much as possible.
Collaboration will ensure Molly's learning needs are identified and together the coach and Molly
will be able to determine what needs to be taught and the best teaching methods to ensure her
learning goals are achieved (Manion, 2011). Identifying Molly's strengths through self–assessment
and reflection will help her with her confidence moving through the coaching process.
Step Three – Clarify Expectations and Parameters Before any coaching can begin, an understanding
of the role expectations of each party must be established. This ensures each individual knows who
will do what throughout the coaching process (Manion, 2011). The role of the coach is to facilitate
Molly's learning in a teaching style, determined together that best suits Molly's learning needs.

12 Angry Men Assignment
A. Groups and Teams
1. Identify the dysfunctional and functional properties of the group in the film as they pertain to the
problem the group is working on.
In this film, the numerous functional and dysfunctional properties of the 12–jury men play a big role
in analysing and evaluating the main purpose at hand, namely identifying the young man guilty or
innocent for the murder of his father.
The different roles the 12–jury men play in the deliberation of the capital murder case is prominent.
Firstly, a role can be defined as a set of expected behaviour patterns attributed to someone
occupying a given position in a social unit. Different groups enforce different role requirements on
individuals namely; role expectation, role perception ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the beginning of the film, conflict between the jury members arise when the initial vote was taken
and only one member of the jury voted that the verdict was not guilty (Juror 8). Because Juror 8 did
not agree with the other jury members, Juror 12 suggested that the group should try and convince
Juror 8, why they think defendant is indeed guilty. Conflict also increases when it was decided that
each Juror should give a reason for why he initially voted that verdict is guilty or not guilty. In the
process of discussing the reasoning behind each members vote, the preconceptions of some Jurors,
namely Juror 10, lead to the conformity of other group members, namely Juror 5. During the film,
miscommunication between the members leads to further misunderstanding which eventually
resulted in role conflict. Simple conflict also took place when the jury members could not agree on a
certain issue. Ego conflict occurred because of the group members personality disagreements.
When looking at the film, "12 Angry men", conformity plays a big role in the jury room. The film
demonstrates the tremendous amount of power social influence can have on individuals to conform
because they believe that by adjusting their own behaviour to align to the norms of the group, will
lead to an increased level of acceptance. Conformity due to social influence can be identified within
the jury room, some Juror members conformed due to

Avioral Model Of The MARS Model
MARS model is a predictive behavioural model that aims at analyzing how four major factors drive
the human behaviour and the way that behaviour gets translated into results. In other words, a
combination of these four factors decides or predicts human behaviour and performance. MARS
stands for Motivation, Ability, Role Perceptions and Situational Factors. MARS model takes into
account the fact that both internal as well as external factors play a decisive role in molding one's
behaviours and performance. Motivation, ability and role perceptions are factors that are under
control of an individual and hence can be viewed as internal factors – motivation and ability are
either innate, or acquired or learnt, and role perceptions denote the idea and image one has of one's
role and the way he perceives or understands it. On the contrary, situational factors are external ...

Employee behaviours are the performance–enabling behaviours, i.e. those particular behaviours that
lead an individual to demonstrate a stellar or an average or an inferior performance. As per MARS
model, motivation, abilities, role perceptions and situational factors act together in synergy to result
in a particular type of behaviour and performance. It is crucial to note that absence of any of these
factors will not result in the expected performance despite the influence of other factors. Say, for
example, an employee has enough motivation to perform his job nicely, a clear understanding of his
role expectations and positive or empowering situational factors, but is deficient in abilities, i.e.
competencies needed to perform the job efficiently. In such a situation, the employee won't be able
to deliver the expected level of performance. Similarly, an individual with adequate motivation,
abilities and facilitating situational factors, will fail to be a super performer if he doesn't have the

The Army : The Socialization Process Of The Army
The socialization process for the Army usually occurs when soldiers are sent off to basic training for
weeks to be broken down as human beings and then rebuilt the way the Army wants them. In the
same way as sociologists view socialization, the purpose of Basic or a Cadet Leader's Course is for
the members to develop a sense of their self as a soldier and learn the ways of the society in which
they will be serving. The socialization process is different for cadets who are in college. They are
not sent off to basic but instead have training during school all year and then summer training that is
similar to basic. First cadets are sent to a Cadet Leader's Course and then the next year they are sent
to Officer Candidate School (OCS). However, cadets begin training the first week of school, so the
socialization process is already started long before the summer of next year. Soldiers are socialized
into the group by first learning how to wear uniforms. The first day I wore a headband that was
against Army uniform standards and was told by my captain to lose the headband. Cadets were then
assigned identity groups or companies known as Alpha and Bravo. My group was Alpha and then
we were given a subgroup within that group known as Two Alpha. During every PT we stood in
lines of four based on rank from front to back with squad team leaders always on the far right. Then
as a group, cadets would perform PT together and we always finished with the company motto with

As in today scenario, in banking sector there is fast growth and development. Everyone is going and

branches of banks in different location. Locations are wide in banking sector. Example: SBI has
branches all over India. Transfer can also create problems for couples. As if one of the partner will
be transfer from the place where he is living, then this will create problem as both the couples has to
live in different place because both are working. And transfer of one partner cause tension among
them as they have to live at separate place which is one of the major issue and problem for the
couples. So, it is very necessary to take into account all these issues of dual career couples in banks.
Banks need to do such arrangement that it could not create major problem for the couples as

A Brief Note On The Person Centered Planning
Person centred planning originated in North America in the late 1970's and 1980's, promoting the
adoption and implementation of normalisation in response to dissatisfaction with the previous
individual programme planning tools (O'Brien & O'Brien, 2002).
Person–centred planning (PCP) approaches facilitate service users to plan their futures and access
the services they need based on the principles of independence, choice, inclusion, equality and
empowerment. This is achieved by "learning through shared action... finding creative solutions
rather than fitting people into boxes and... problem solving and working together over time to create
change in a person 's life, in the community and in organisations" (Sanderson, 2000). This process
of continual listening and learning from what is important to the focus person now and in the future
fundamentally entails sharing power and community inclusion. Furthermore, PCP provides a way to
understand the experience of people with disabilities to develop upon these experiences by reducing
social isolation, facilitating the establishment of friendships, creating opportunities to engage in
activities as chosen by the focus person, increasing capabilities and promoting respect in
collaboration with allies (Holburn, 2002). This requires a wide range of actions at individual,
organisational and systemic levels in order to support the development of PCP's (Mansell, and
Beadle‐Brown, 2004).
Therefore, to develop a PCP, the following are

How Stress Affects Everyone Regardless Of Their...
Stress affects everyone regardless of their background, ethnicity, gender or personality. These
factors can be important to detect how vulnerable a person is to stress. Williams and Cooper use the
four–way model to describe how stress works (2002, 6). In this model, coping mechanisms, sources
of pressure, personality and positive/negative effects are all connected to each other. Personality is
the main block that faces both the pressure and the coping mechanisms. From there, a person could
either get affected negatively and be stressed, or get positive effects out of the situation and reach to
the growth phase (Williams & Cooper, 2002, 7). Stress is in people`s lives from the very first
moment that they are able to perceive and understand the social standards. Since people spend most
of their life time at work dealing with many responsibilities, there are many stressors created in the
workplace. According to Matteson and Ivancevich, life without the right amount of stress would not
be motivating or exciting (1982, 11). However, high amount of stress is costly for both the employee
and the employer. The commercial costs of stress at work include sickness absence, poor service,
legal claims, insurance claims, staff turnover, low productivity, poor quality, lack of innovation, low
morale, bad working relationships, poor decision–making and accidents (Williams & Cooper, 2002,
35). It is crucial to understand the workplace stressors; by doing so, effective coping strategies can

Roles Of A Grand Son
Roles are the parts that individuals play in society. Every single human being on earth has their own
unique set of roles. There are two kinds of roles, Ascribed, and achieved. An ascribed role, is a role
that people are born into, examples include the role of a grand son, or a Canadian. Achieved roles,
are roles that a person has to work to acquire, examples include; a teacher, or a politician. Two roles
that I currently possess are a university student, and a daughter. Being a daughter is an important
role that I play. The role of a daughter is an ascribed role, I know this because I did not have to work
for it. I was simply born into the role. As a daughter, I have plenty of important responsibilities.
These responsibilities are; loving and caring for my parents, helping as much around the house as I
can while I live there, and making sure I stay in contact with my parents when I am no longer living
with them. Along with the list of responsibilities I have when it comes to being a daughter, the role
also comes with a set of rights. These rights include love and protection, help with learning about
the world around me, and a house, and food until I am at least 18. The role of being a daughter plays
a key role in socialization and social belonging. My parents were my source of early attachment.
Most importantly, my parents were my primary agents of socialization. They taught me the language
I speak, my values, and norms. As a daughter, my parents culture was

Siddons ; S Androgynous Rosalind Costume In Shakespeare's...
Because Siddons's androgynous Rosalind costume was so strongly criticized, it is somewhat
surprising that the actress chose to play a role as iconic as Hamlet in an outfit that at least one
spectator found to be ambiguously gendered. Nonetheless, Siddons perhaps had reason to believe
that her Hamlet would be better received than her performances as Rosalind. It was clearly a role
that she performed with some frequency early in her career, and she may have felt that it was better
suited for her talents as a primarily tragic actress than a comic breeches role in which Jordan could
easily outshine her. Furthermore, while Siddons's original Rosalind costume differed significantly
from the standard set by other actresses, her Dublin Hamlet costume may not have been that
different from what other actors wore to play Hamlet in the early Romantic era. In fact, the costume
depicted in Hamilton's sketch also resembles the costume shown in Sir Thomas Lawrence's famous
painting of Kemble as Hamlet. According to most stage histories of the play, Kemble was the first
actor to wear 'period dress' while playing Hamlet rather than the 'modern court dress' that Garrick
and other actors had worn before him. Alan R. Young explains,
Kemble broke with tradition and wore a costume suggestive of Elizabethan dress, the so–called
Vandyke costume, that included [...] a sleeved doublet, trunk hose, tights, and a lace collar, with a
baldric to support a sword. To this he added for crucial scenes the

Socio Analysis Essay
The term "socio–analysis" is a term that is used to describe the way sociologists analyzes certain
traits about an object, object being the person or persons being studied. "Socio–analysis is the
activity of exploration, consultancy, and action research which combines and synthesizes
methodologies and theories derived from psychoanalysis, group relations, social systems thinking,
organizational behavior, and social dreaming," (Bain). The use of socio–analysis has been very
beneficial to understand society and the people that make up societies. Jane's statuses include being

In Toni Morrison's novel, The Bluest Eye, characters learn how to perform social roles though film.
Pauline goes to the movies in search of a more glamorous identity. Instead, the unattainable beauty
she sees onscreen reaffirms her low place in society. Laura Mulvey's article, Visual and Other
Pleasures, explains film's ability to indoctrinate patriarchal social order. This ability is certainly
applicable to Morrison's novel. Film reinforces the Breedloves' place in society, teaches Claudia to

this type of recognition in her article. She refers to it as a type of mirror stage when the viewer's
"curiosity and the wish to look intermingle with a fascination with likeness and recognition"
(Mulvey 17). She goes on to explain how this type of recognition then leads to misrecognition.
Pauline experiences such misrecognition. She learns that she can never be like the beautiful women

understands she will never be beautiful or glamorous, which are the traits the movies have taught
her to value. Because of her film education, Pauline learns to hate herself. The movies reinforce her
inferior social status. She now believes in her ugliness and the ugliness of her family. She sees

  • 1. Credit Life Insurance CALIFORNIA CREDIT LIFE INSURANCE CASE WAC Problem Analysis MOTIVATION OF SOME LEADING TO DEMOTIVATION OF SOME FOLLOWED BY DISCRIMINATION Through analyzing the California Credit Life Insurance Group it could be seen that the company is facing some serious issues regarding the gender biases within the company. Though the management believes in equal employment opportunity EEO, the executives have faced some issues related to sexual discrimination which is turning into bad reputation for the company. A case was filed against James Bradford, a sales manager from the southern region by a sales rep from the same region reporting against sexual discrimination. The management took a serious action in resolving this issue that would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreover it can be analyzed from the exhibit that all the men were the highest paid candidates. Therefore CCLI needs to look after these problems so that they could avoid the negative image of the company and reduce internal discrimination that is leading to ethical issues. If we look at exhibit 5, we can see that the South region is doing much worse that the total company. If we concentrate on the females in this exhibit, they are not happy with their job as the job satisfaction index is at 45% they are not content with their fellow workers as the index stands at a 49%. They are surely not happy with their supervisor which is Bradford in this case because the index is the lowest in this field and stands at 41%. We can see that the men are pretty much happy and satisfied with promotion and advancement because the index for men stands at 59% while for females it stands at only 48%. In this case all the number speak much louder than the text. Recommendations We have discussed the issues above regarding the company, our first recommendation to the company is that the company should take care of equal employment opportunities for every sales rep regardless of their gender. By looking at the case facts we can say that they do have the equal employment opportunity but only for the hiring process and once the women are hired they are not treated or compensated equally. • 2. Essay on Acton-Burnett Summary BUS 160 Acton – Burnett: Case Analysis Questions Response by Fermions 1. What differences, if any, exist between the problems that the task force has been asked to address and the "real" problems? Two Vice Presidents for the company Keene and Ryan come to the conclusion that a task force must be created to make sense of the final forecast and product demand forecast that the four marketing managers created. The task force found many problems some being systematic bias and that it seemed information was being withheld. In the end at the presentation it becomes obvious that the problems were poorly done incorrect forecasting and a collaboration to prevent people from becoming aware of it, by withholding information and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Main reason was due to the fact that its lacked top management support. Therefore it was no surprise that Baker found the initial meeting to be less than satisfying. This due to the fact that the selection was put together basically in two methods, first using employee members under those whom would most likely be most beneficial to the forecasting task force, such as project managers instead of marketing managers; Special asst. to the VP of Sales rather then the Vice President of Sales himself etc. Secondly, they select a few whom they thought would bring balance as well as contribute to the team. However, both methods didn't seem to be an appropriate choice as Schraftt and the project members were nearly contributing in the initial meeting and later they felt uncomfortable to presentation towards the possibly of offending or creating an awkwardness position towards their boss/ managers. Therefore, such selection should not withhold members from feeling insecure and should freely allow each individual to express themselves and contribute to the team. A possible method of selecting task members is to concentrate on the main focuses and including the possible leaders of each focuses. By doing so, these should be the most knowledgeable personnel in the organization whom is most familiar with the area and would be the best candidate to contribute. • 3. Bash Chair Research Paper The Bash Chair position is more than another title to add to my resume. This position would give me a chance to fully understand the culture of UTA as I direct my peers through the workings of an awesome event. Our campus teaches thousands of people every day, many of whom I may not have a chance to meet through happenstance. Nonetheless, I believe November's Bash is a wonderful opportunity for students of all backgrounds to come together in the name having fun and our collective love for UTA. Serving as the Bash Chair will allow me to create connections with people and cultures I never thought I would encounter while leading our community through a wonderful tradition. The Bash leadership experience, through leading student and Arlington community involvement while facilitating teamwork, will help me expand my open–minded view of the world, a valuable lesson enforced outside of the ... I hope to cultivate appreciation of what my peers have to offer, no matter how different our background may be. Serving as The Bash Chair requires constant engagement and representation of UTA students. These circumstances will help me expand my understanding of our communities and culture. I would love to lead the process of traditionally outstanding, family–friendly events. In the past, I have worked on behalf of large organizations so I am familiar with constantly sending out emails and phone calls to gain potential sponsorship for school events. Additionally, I have exceptional time–management skills that I have cultivated over my career in public education which I can easily leverage into managing student volunteers and connecting with other student organizations. While evaluating the situation, I reviewed several literatures regarding team coordination and how it can be improved. A study by Harris, Treanor and Salisbury (2013, pp.560), reveals that the coordination between staff member is very challenging as the opinion of one individual may not match to another individual, personality clashes, lack of communication, feeling of superiority, feeling of ashamed in front of colleague if something went wrong may disbalance the coordination between team member. The answer to this question is changing my perception and applying the Covey 7 habit of highly effective people because it provides insight to any problem. I will try to become more proactive to minimize those problem and I will prioritize the things according to its importance. Furthermore, I will begin with the end, at first, I will clear all doubts and research to know the main cause of the problem and then starts to think about its management. In the past, I have experienced things to be done to achieve a vision that I have been imagined of. So, in future I will never repeat the same mistake. I will never neglect the situation and will acknowledge every small detail as the small negligence can further deteriorate the situation. Before, I believed in every member without knowing their knowledge and abilities. Therefore, before trusting any staff we should know their capabilities. If they are not well skilled and knowledgeable then in the future I will plan the in– service education, classes from expertise. I will arrange the staff meeting so that the staff can say about their problem so that timely it can be managed. • 5. Retirement Is An Important Life Transition Retirement is recognised as being an important life transition (Szinovacz, 1980), associated with a number of adjustments including social roles, income and daily routine adaption's (Pinquart & Schindler, 2007). Although there is no single definition of what retirement is within existing literature (Denton & Spencer, 2009), it can arguably be best understood as an subjective journey involving a psychosocial transition rather than a single event of exiting work or an objective life transition (Matour & Prout, 2007, Kim & Moen, 2002). Future retirees consider retirement to be a huge decision where they envisage what their daily life would be after exiting the work force, as well as the physical and emotional effort to make the transition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, due to the limited qualitative research, quantitative research has been supplemented to provide an understanding of the retirement transition. Even though quantitative literature will be reviewed, a critical stance is taken due to the different assumptions and philosophical underpinnings which are highlighted throughout. Firstly, retiree's can experience some losses during the retirement transition. It can be suggested that work is more than just bringing home an income (Kleiber & Linde, 2014). For example, many individuals significantly identify with a work role which may have implications when adjusting to retirement life. Osborne (2012) suggests during the retirement transition, individuals can experience partial identity disruption. Identity refers to "cognitive and effective meanings that an individual attributes to one's self in a role" (Reitzes & Mutran, 2006, p. 336). One explanation of this disruption is provided by role theory (George, 1993) which suggests individuals' former roles within employment may form an integral part of their identity (Price, 2003). Therefore, it is suggested that psychological distress can occur due to the loss in retiree's previous work role which may disrupt their identity (Kim & Moen, 2002). However, ... • 6. The Breakfast Club : A Group Role In The Breakfast Club 1)A group role is the part a member plays in a group, as a function of your traits, personality, your expectation, expectations of others in the group. and who you are as an individual. Each member in the Breakfast Club has had an input into the story line and there are multiple characters with different roles, inputs and circumstances and all of them interacting to make this film quite interesting. Lets start off with the most deviant of them all. John bender– you would expect a character such as john to be living in detention let alone just being their for a week.being the defiant individual that he is John starts off being rude, arrogant, and disruptive to the whole scheme of the detention period. Some of the group roles that claire portrays are some task roles such as clarifying. She would state to Bender who was always being mean to her should sit down and be quite or that Mr. Vernon would catch him messing around and cause even more mayhem. She would even showcase maintenance roles such as harmonizing and relieving tension. • 7. Effects Of Stress In France Comcomlecom Stress in the Workplace My reaction to the situation with France Telecom is that it is a tragedy, no organization should be ok with any of their employees being stressed to the point of wanting to kill themselves. Which reminded me of our previous discussion about job satisfaction. I don't think any job is worth the stress that the employees of France Telecom had to endure, no matter how much money the employees are making. I also thought, this is an important public/global health issue that needs to be addressed. What went wrong at France Telecom? I believe there are more factors to consider than what was included in this case, but with the information given, the internal factors were mainly poor management, such as the chairman Didier Lombard. According to BBC news, "Mr. Lombard announced plans to cut 22,000 jobs and move another 14,000 workers, as France Telecom pushed for greater efficiency in the wake of privatization, two years earlier." (N/A, 2016) This was the main contributor to the extremely high levels of stress the employees were under. When deciding to make changes in the organization, the company was using psychological pressure and pathogenic restructuring that caused the employees immense stress and the feeling of insecurity in the face of globalization. They felt insignificant to the company and the way they were pressured and treated created huge role conflict and overload. I believe that it is the manager's job to make sure that the work environment is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Mental Health And Substance Abuse Disorders Introduction Policy makers and researchers have paid attention to behavioral health problems due to significant burden of morbidity and disability, as well as health care cost. The term behavioral health refers to a state of mental or emotional being and choices and actions that affect wellness. It encompasses both mental health and substance use, including such as depression, substance abuse or misuse, serious psychological distress, and suicide (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, 2011). In 2012, an estimated 16 million adults aged 18 or older in the U.S. had at least one major depressive episode in the past year. This represented 6.9 percent of all U.S. adults (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, 2013). People with mental and substance abuse disorders may find difficulties to maintain interpersonal relations, find and sustain employment, and care for themselves and family members because behavioral health problem may affect individual's ability to function in daily life. Although mental health problems are both common and important in general population, they are especially common in women than men (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, 2013), and in particular in individuals who are socially disadvantaged (Heflin & Iceland, 2009). Although a variety of factors are related to psychological wellbeing among low–income women, decades of research find poverty to be a correlate of behavioral health problem ... • 9. Gary Kielhofner : The Model Of Human Occupational Behavior The Model of Human Occupation (MOHO was created by Gary Kielhofner in the 1980s. The model has been revised and refined since then, by other occupational therapists. This model is focused on a person's occupations and helps to explain how disability and related problems can come about. The model is thought to be client–centered, based on evidence, and holistic by concentrating on the person as a whole. The model emphasizes both the client's mind and body in addition to putting further emphasis on occupational performance, rather than emphasizing the performance components. Likewise, the environment plays a role in the model and can assist in opportunities of better occupational performance. The Model of Human Occupation interprets people as being a system. The collaboration of the human as a system, the task, and the environment produces the outcome of occupational behavior. This is expressed according to the dynamic systems theory. Occupational performance is dynamic because it effects the health, well–being, improvement, and modification of the system. According to the Model of Human Occupation, the human system is continually fluctuating and restructuring itself through engagement of the surroundings. There are many basic assumptions, explained by this model, to help understand the complexity of human occupation. Humans are dynamic systems. Components of the human system work collectively to construct behavior. Behavior continuously changes in order to coincide with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. George Babbitt's Characters And Conformist Social Roles Secondly, the characters experience conformist social roles. George Babbitt conforms to the social role of being a father and husband. In Babbitt's society it is expected for men to be the bread–winner of the family and also to be faithful to his wife even if they are out of love. Babbitt is experiencing the social stress from conforming to appear the best possible husband and father he can be. George is out of love with his wife. He met Myra Babbitt when he was in college and he did not even love her to begin with. He believed he should marry her because she was a honest and a "good wife" (Lewis 81) material. Most men and women married either married for money or that they felt obligated to marry someone to because it is expected of them. Their marriage grew to become boring which tends to happen in most marriages. Instead of George leaving Myra he stays, because he feels it is his moral obligation to do so. Hence, he is out of love it leads him to temptation. Babbitt imagines a "fairy child" (Lewis 5). He uses the fairy child as his escape form reality. He knows he cannot morally cheat on his wife, therefore he imagines a life without her with other women. The first woman he imagines being with is McGoun (describe her from the book). The second woman he imagines being with is Eunice (describe her from the book). The third woman is (look her up). All these women resemble what he wishes his wife could be like, McGoun is a worker, Eunice is young, and the last one is lively, Myra is none of these things. Myra has the social life of being a housewife. She plans dinners, she reads magazine, her children do not pay attention, and her husband does not love her. While George is going through struggle of being faithful, he eventually gives up and cheats on Myra. The social role is his playing is such a burden on him that he cracks under pressure and does not care what people think of his scandalous ways. While he is having this newfound revolution, Myra is also having her own revolution. She becomes more lively and appears younger and George falls in love with her again. George discovers that he is allowed to have his type of fun without his wife but also be able to take care and love Myra which is social role as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Internal And External Factors Of Role Stress The transition from expert registered nurse to novice nurse practitioner includes inherent challenges in adjusting from one practice role to the next (Barnes, 2015). There are both internal and external factors that combine to create this difficulty in role transition. External factors that define the role of nurse practitioner contribute to this challenge by creating role stress. Internal conflicts regarding new roles create role strain (Dreher and Smith, 2017). These two sets of factors taken together have a profound effect on successful role transition. Role stress has been defined throughout sociological literature as occurring due to the expectations placed on an individual. The requirements and expectations of performing a role ... Finally, this data was used to create a schema of the first year of NP practice. This includes four stages: laying the foundation, launching, meeting the challenge, and broadening the perspective (Brown and Olshansky, 1997). While their paper does not specifically discuss the concepts of role stress and role strain, the ideas are key to the launching stage. In the interviews reported in Brown and Olshansky's work the participants report role strain. Evidence for this occurs in participant statements such as, "I have this profound insecurity...and I feel like I 'm faking it." This indicates the internal angst of perceived incompetence. Role stress is also supported by participant statements, such as "I 'm the one who holds up the clinic," that demonstrate the external stressors applied to new NPs. The authors' conclusions also support the idea that external demands create role stress and that internal anxieties demonstrate role strain (1997). More support for the significance of role strain during the transition to nurse practitioner comes from an article in the Journal of Professional Nursing. This article cites anxiety, stress, and emotional turmoil as characteristic of the RN to NP role change (Poronsky, 2013). Learning, as an organization, to constructively manage and succeed in conflict situations is a foundational construct of leadership and management (Ledlow, 2009). There are six different conflict styles: (1) accommodating, (2) avoiding, (3) collaborating, (4) competing, (5) compromising and (6) problem solving. After reading the case study, the surgical team is displaying conflict style of avoiding "potential disruption outweighs the benefits of resolution, gathering information supersedes immediate decision making, others can resolve the conflict more effectively and issues seem a result of other issues," (Ledlow, 2009). The teamwork training was very memorable. After more than two weeks of running, there are many impressive events that happened. From those events, I felt change and also helped develop myself in some areas. In this reflection essay, the main purpose is to find out whether I was suitable to my other three team members who come from different cultures and backgrounds, whether I have good leadership skills and teamwork skills and my individual performance reflective. • 14. An Evolution Of User Participation An Evolution of User Participation Roles in Software Development We discuss in a little more detail the Struggle for Existence. ― Charles Darwin, The Origin of Species Although information systems research has long recognized the crucial role of user participation in developing better software, researchers have overlooked temporal dimension and dynamism associated with participation. This study contributes a new scholarly conversation on the longitudinal processes around how users influence software development in dynamic ways and how software organizations enable them to do so. Using a multi–year qualitative inquiry, we develop an evolutionary approach that theorizes user participation roles at different stages of development with three concepts of 'inheritance', 'modification', and 'survival'. The evolutionary approach unpacks how user participation roles are rooted deeply in the 'repetitive experience' and the 'co–evolution of developers and users' over time. The results suggest software organizations should devote attention to the changing roles of user participation at different stages of development and design appropriate processes to support these roles. We discuss the important implications of evolutionary approach for theories of participation and engagement and for software organizations attempting to operate in the uncertain and rapidly changing context of software development. • 15. The Power Of Power In Lord Of The Flies By William Golding Power is a compelling thing isn't it? When asked about power one might respond that the president has power or the queen or a politician. Power doesn't just come in one form, like a pass, fail class, it's not that you're either powerful or not; it just doesn't work that way. Power comes in different shapes and sizes, just like the people who hold it. The power of a role; being able to control someone or not. Happens so often in our day to day life that we overlook it. Everyone has a boss or a teacher who tells you what to do, but what happens when that starts to affect you morally? What happens when they aren't just bossing you around and you know what they are doing is wrong but society is in such a fixated state that you are overlooked because it has become a social norm. when people conform to their role in society too much, they can lose who they are, which can lead to the downfall of the people around them. In Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding, this can be shown the best with Jack and his tribe. In Lord of the Flies, a great example is Jack, a character quick to conform to his role as a leader and a hunter. It even states "...while the most obvious leader was Jack." (Golding 22). At this point Jack hasn't conformed to a role yet and is a perfect candidate for chief. The boys chose Ralph anyways, but Jack is given the role of lead hunter, a role Ralph will later regret giving. • 22. Application Of A Resident Assistant Essay In February of 2016, I applied and was selected to be a Resident Assistant in Newman Towers here at Loyola for the 2016–17 academic year by the Office of Student Life. The Student Life office can be seen as a meso–level social unit in that it is a medium scale department within the greater Loyola community that consists of a status system, which is a set of statuses. These statuses, which are positions in a social unit, are achieved, since they were attained out of one's own action, and formal, since the expectations of each status exist independent of the person who fills the social status. In accepting this position, I achieved the formal status of a Resident Assistant and became an employee of Student Life. In assuming a certain status, one also assumes all of the expectations, obligations, and rights, associated with that position in the social unit. Another word for these expectations is a role. In the Office of Student Life, each status, such as the Director, an Assistant Director (AD), a Graduate Resident Coordinator (GRC), or a Resident Assistant (RA), comes with a specific role set, which consists of multiple associated roles within a given status. The term "role" is short for "role relationship" due to the fact that any role defines a set of expectations towards another role. For example, the roles of Resident Assistant are part of the relationship between Resident Assistant and residents. A set of role relationships that make up a social unit forms a role ... Role ambiguity takes place when the worker lacks information that is needed for understanding the role and for performing up to its expectation (Ghorpade & Lackritz, 2011). A study was conducted on the campus of a major university, in which there were approximately nine hundred participants who were full–time faculty members. Questionnaires were hand–delivered to the head secretary of each department on campus, with the request to put one in the mailbox of each full–time faculty member. All of these are examples of what women should not do in the 1960s.. She never married which even today is considered to be a woman's greatest accomplishment. Her whole life she faced criticism for going against gender norms, but yet she did not conform to society. Communication competence is "considered very broadly as an impression that behavior is appropriate and effective in a given context" (Spitzberg, 2000). This includes being effective by having a wide range of behaviors and being in the "we", not "me" mentality, being appropriate by complying with the group rules, have the knowledge to learn the rules and know how to be a proper asset in your group, having empathy or being sensitive towards your group members, staying committed to your group, and lastly being ethical. Our groups communication was very competent. When it came to group decision making, there was no hint of individuality, none of the members had a me mentality, but instead we all as a group put what we wanted aside to agree on a board game that would be the most appropriate for the assignment. For example, I wanted to play poker instead of monopoly but due to the fact that I was the only one in our group that knew how to play poker I quickly agreed with monopoly. Furthermore, all the group members showed commitment, and ethics. Many of us had a busy week schedule to include work and other classes so when we were able to settle on a time and date for a meeting everyone stayed committed to the schedule and arrived on time. While we had these group meetings and game nights everyone in the group was respectful towards each other by not making any rude remarks or aggressiveness when there was disagreement and being responsible by not attempting to cheat to win Group Climate is defined by Rothwell as "the emotional atmosphere, the enveloping tone that is created by the way we communicate in groups" (105). Group's can have either positive or negative climates. Our group displayed a positive climate. We treated each other well and fairly, we were all flexible with our busy schedules in order to have group meetings and whenever someone had a last minute work shift change interfering with out meeting we quickly reorganized without any harsh feelings. Additionally, there are over 21 million kids between the ages of 6 and 17 that play sports (Kelley). This enormous number not only represents children playing a sport but it also represents something that each of those kids have in common: they each have a coach. There are three key things involved in every sport: the players, the competition, and the coaches. Each of these parts of the sport are important and necessary. Sports are not only a great way to exercise and keep fit, but they also teach kids a lot of important qualities that they will need to be successful for the rest of their lives. They teach them how to exercise, how to compete, how to work on a team, how to work toward a goal, and how to develop and manage relationships. No relationship, however, is more important than that between a coach and his/her player. Conflict also increases when it was decided that each Juror should give a reason for why he initially voted that verdict is guilty or not guilty. In the process of discussing the reasoning behind each members vote, the preconceptions of some Jurors, namely Juror 10, lead to the conformity of other group members, namely Juror 5. The film demonstrates the tremendous amount of power social influence can have on individuals to conform because they believe that by adjusting their own behaviour to align to the norms of the group, will lead to an increased level of acceptance. Conformity due to social influence can be identified within the jury room, some Juror members conformed due to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Avioral Model Of The MARS Model MARS model is a predictive behavioural model that aims at analyzing how four major factors drive the human behaviour and the way that behaviour gets translated into results. In other words, a combination of these four factors decides or predicts human behaviour and performance. MARS stands for Motivation, Ability, Role Perceptions and Situational Factors. MARS model takes into account the fact that both internal as well as external factors play a decisive role in molding one's behaviours and performance. Motivation, ability and role perceptions are factors that are under control of an individual and hence can be viewed as internal factors – motivation and ability are either innate, or acquired or learnt, and role perceptions denote the idea and image one has of one's role and the way he perceives or understands it. On the contrary, situational factors are external ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Employee behaviours are the performance–enabling behaviours, i.e. those particular behaviours that lead an individual to demonstrate a stellar or an average or an inferior performance. As per MARS model, motivation, abilities, role perceptions and situational factors act together in synergy to result in a particular type of behaviour and performance. It is crucial to note that absence of any of these factors will not result in the expected performance despite the influence of other factors. Say, for example, an employee has enough motivation to perform his job nicely, a clear understanding of his role expectations and positive or empowering situational factors, but is deficient in abilities, i.e. competencies needed to perform the job efficiently. In such a situation, the employee won't be able to deliver the expected level of performance. Similarly, an individual with adequate motivation, abilities and facilitating situational factors, will fail to be a super performer if he doesn't have the correct role ... • 31. The Army : The Socialization Process Of The Army The socialization process for the Army usually occurs when soldiers are sent off to basic training for weeks to be broken down as human beings and then rebuilt the way the Army wants them. In the same way as sociologists view socialization, the purpose of Basic or a Cadet Leader's Course is for the members to develop a sense of their self as a soldier and learn the ways of the society in which they will be serving. The socialization process is different for cadets who are in college. They are not sent off to basic but instead have training during school all year and then summer training that is similar to basic. First cadets are sent to a Cadet Leader's Course and then the next year they are sent to Officer Candidate School (OCS). However, cadets begin training the first week of school, so the socialization process is already started long before the summer of next year. Soldiers are socialized into the group by first learning how to wear uniforms. The first day I wore a headband that was against Army uniform standards and was told by my captain to lose the headband. Cadets were then assigned identity groups or companies known as Alpha and Bravo. My group was Alpha and then we were given a subgroup within that group known as Two Alpha. During every PT we stood in lines of four based on rank from front to back with squad team leaders always on the far right. Then as a group, cadets would perform PT together and we always finished with the company motto with the company ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. A Brief Note On The Person Centered Planning Person centred planning originated in North America in the late 1970's and 1980's, promoting the adoption and implementation of normalisation in response to dissatisfaction with the previous individual programme planning tools (O'Brien & O'Brien, 2002). Person–centred planning (PCP) approaches facilitate service users to plan their futures and access the services they need based on the principles of independence, choice, inclusion, equality and empowerment. This is achieved by "learning through shared action... finding creative solutions rather than fitting people into boxes and... problem solving and working together over time to create change in a person 's life, in the community and in organisations" (Sanderson, 2000). This process of continual listening and learning from what is important to the focus person now and in the future fundamentally entails sharing power and community inclusion. Furthermore, PCP provides a way to understand the experience of people with disabilities to develop upon these experiences by reducing social isolation, facilitating the establishment of friendships, creating opportunities to engage in activities as chosen by the focus person, increasing capabilities and promoting respect in collaboration with allies (Holburn, 2002). This requires a wide range of actions at individual, organisational and systemic levels in order to support the development of PCP's (Mansell, and Beadle‐Brown, 2004). Therefore, to develop a PCP, the following are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. How Stress Affects Everyone Regardless Of Their... Stress affects everyone regardless of their background, ethnicity, gender or personality. These factors can be important to detect how vulnerable a person is to stress. Williams and Cooper use the four–way model to describe how stress works (2002, 6). In this model, coping mechanisms, sources of pressure, personality and positive/negative effects are all connected to each other. Personality is the main block that faces both the pressure and the coping mechanisms. From there, a person could either get affected negatively and be stressed, or get positive effects out of the situation and reach to the growth phase (Williams & Cooper, 2002, 7). Stress is in people`s lives from the very first moment that they are able to perceive and understand the social standards. Since people spend most of their life time at work dealing with many responsibilities, there are many stressors created in the workplace. According to Matteson and Ivancevich, life without the right amount of stress would not be motivating or exciting (1982, 11). However, high amount of stress is costly for both the employee and the employer. The commercial costs of stress at work include sickness absence, poor service, legal claims, insurance claims, staff turnover, low productivity, poor quality, lack of innovation, low morale, bad working relationships, poor decision–making and accidents (Williams & Cooper, 2002, 35). It is crucial to understand the workplace stressors; by doing so, effective coping strategies can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Roles Of A Grand Son Roles are the parts that individuals play in society. Every single human being on earth has their own unique set of roles. There are two kinds of roles, Ascribed, and achieved. An ascribed role, is a role that people are born into, examples include the role of a grand son, or a Canadian. Achieved roles, are roles that a person has to work to acquire, examples include; a teacher, or a politician. Two roles that I currently possess are a university student, and a daughter. Being a daughter is an important role that I play. The role of a daughter is an ascribed role, I know this because I did not have to work for it. I was simply born into the role. As a daughter, I have plenty of important responsibilities. These responsibilities are; loving and caring for my parents, helping as much around the house as I can while I live there, and making sure I stay in contact with my parents when I am no longer living with them. Along with the list of responsibilities I have when it comes to being a daughter, the role also comes with a set of rights. These rights include love and protection, help with learning about the world around me, and a house, and food until I am at least 18. The role of being a daughter plays a key role in socialization and social belonging. My parents were my source of early attachment. Most importantly, my parents were my primary agents of socialization. They taught me the language I speak, my values, and norms. As a daughter, my parents culture was ... • 36. Siddons ; S Androgynous Rosalind Costume In Shakespeare's... Because Siddons's androgynous Rosalind costume was so strongly criticized, it is somewhat surprising that the actress chose to play a role as iconic as Hamlet in an outfit that at least one spectator found to be ambiguously gendered. Nonetheless, Siddons perhaps had reason to believe that her Hamlet would be better received than her performances as Rosalind. It was clearly a role that she performed with some frequency early in her career, and she may have felt that it was better suited for her talents as a primarily tragic actress than a comic breeches role in which Jordan could easily outshine her. Furthermore, while Siddons's original Rosalind costume differed significantly from the standard set by other actresses, her Dublin Hamlet costume may not have been that different from what other actors wore to play Hamlet in the early Romantic era. In fact, the costume depicted in Hamilton's sketch also resembles the costume shown in Sir Thomas Lawrence's famous painting of Kemble as Hamlet. According to most stage histories of the play, Kemble was the first actor to wear 'period dress' while playing Hamlet rather than the 'modern court dress' that Garrick and other actors had worn before him. Alan R. Young explains, Kemble broke with tradition and wore a costume suggestive of Elizabethan dress, the so–called Vandyke costume, that included [...] a sleeved doublet, trunk hose, tights, and a lace collar, with a baldric to support a sword. To this he added for crucial scenes the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

"Socio–analysis is the activity of exploration, consultancy, and action research which combines and synthesizes methodologies and theories derived from psychoanalysis, group relations, social systems thinking, organizational behavior, and social dreaming," (Bain). The use of socio–analysis has been very beneficial to understand society and the people that make up societies. • 39. Cinema in Toni Morrison's The Bluest Eye Essay Cinema in Toni Morrison's The Bluest Eye In Toni Morrison's novel, The Bluest Eye, characters learn how to perform social roles though film. Pauline goes to the movies in search of a more glamorous identity. Instead, the unattainable beauty she sees onscreen reaffirms her low place in society. Laura Mulvey's article, Visual and Other Pleasures, explains film's ability to indoctrinate patriarchal social order. This ability is certainly applicable to Morrison's novel. Film reinforces the Breedloves' place in society, teaches Claudia to love Shirley Temple and constructs women as sexual objects for pleasure. Mulvey's article also examines the powerful, active male gaze. In The Bluest Eye the female gaze is constructed as dirty, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A part on the side, with one little curl on my forehead. It looked just like her. Well, almost just like" (Morrison 123). Pauline recognizes herself in the glamorous women onscreen. Mulvey discusses this type of recognition in her article. She refers to it as a type of mirror stage when the viewer's "curiosity and the wish to look intermingle with a fascination with likeness and recognition" (Mulvey 17). She goes on to explain how this type of recognition then leads to misrecognition. Pauline experiences such misrecognition. She learns that she can never be like the beautiful women in the movies. While watching the show, her tooth falls out. She then realizes, "There I was five months pregnant, trying to look like Jean Harlow, and a front tooth gone. Everything went then. Look like I just didn't care no more after that" (Morrison 123). The tooth falling out reminds Pauline of her ugliness and helps her to understand her mistake in identifying with Jean Harlow. She understands she will never be beautiful or glamorous, which are the traits the movies have taught her to value. Because of her film education, Pauline learns to hate herself. The movies reinforce her inferior social status. She now believes in her ugliness and the ugliness of her family. She sees "nothing to contradict the statement; saw, in fact, support for it leaning at them from every billboard, every movie, every glance" (Morrison 39).
