How I Taught My Friend Essay
My friend Ling asked me to help her with her English pronunciation at the beginning of this year. I
tutored her for two weeks and we did not have very official tutoring time; so mostly, we
communicated in English and I corrected her whenever I spotted a mistake. She is a Chinese girl who
comes from Chengdu, and she has problems producing some of the sounds. For example, she always
pronounces six as sex , which ultimately made her come to me since it kept embarrassing her. I first
taught her some basic pronouncing rules, and then we began the spotting then correcting session. After
reading Wiggins (2012) article about feedback, I think the way that I taught my friend was to have her
learn from the feedback. For example, one day when we were in Mexico City, we were talking about
how to make her pronunciation better.
She said, I don t know why I cannot prolounce (pronounce) certain sounds .
Then I corrected her, it s pronounce, not prolounce. It s an n not an L .
Then she tried, pro~l~oun~ce .
No, it s pro~n~oun~ce , I corrected her again.
Pronounce? Pronounce? , she looked at me with her eyes widely opened.
Yeah , I said.
But I cannot figure it out. What s the difference? she asked.
People in southern China always have difficulty differentiate N from L . So I taught her the two
sounds different tongue positions in the mouth. Then she became better but there were still times she
mispronounced them. I told her to be careful with these sounds for the

Lucid Dreams Essay
The purpose of this study was to see if political views or your personal background has anything to do
with the types of dreams that you have. There were women and men that participated, by personal or
internet surveys. The questions were asking general questions like age and race and the types and the
frequency of your dreams. There were 700 people to do the interviews and the researchers chose the
liberal and conservative men and women. There were 234 participants in total, conservative and
liberal men and women, more liberalism. One of the reasons for this research was how your dreams
were based off things that were important to you in real life. There are four sets of sleeping, which are
general sleeping, Frequency of Memorable Dreams and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The tests were based on emotions and different activities, like sleep paralysis, snakes, and terrorism.
The results were very similar, but Liberal women had a higher percentage on most of the dreams.
Liberals remembered sexual experiences better and are more open to talk about them, conservatives
remembered the nightmares. Conservative men had more lucid dreams which is when you are
dreaming and you know you are dreaming. Researchers interpreted that because most men will tell
themselves that their nightmare was just a dream. The next set was the percentage of Nightmares and
Bizarre Dreams that each group had. Liberals had more bizarre dream that they could recall all of the
details, it was something that was not ordinary. Conservatives had more nightmares dealing with
negative emotions. Conservatives have more mundane dreams which are dreams that are dull or lack
interest. The last set was the Analysis of Political Dreams. Liberals had more political dreams and they
were bizarre nightmares and mean. The dreams would seem real and it had already happened, but
seemed as if the participant was living in that moment again in a different way. Conservatives dreams
about politics were good and happy dreams. For example, being friends with the president instead of

Burt s Bees Cosmetics Essay
The goal of Burt s Bees Cosmetics management is not simply to direct and control employees but also
to motivate and reward them in order to get the wanted results and better performance. The French
adhere to a strong and homogeneous set of values. (EDiplomat) Burt s Bees Cosmetics will need to
remember that what motivates people is culturally based.
Approach to motivation is difficult. Canada scores 52 in Hofstede s Masculinity dimension. Canadians

Antisemitism in the Ukraine
How can one not help to think of the Holocaust during this time of unease in the Ukraine, Jews were
clearly targeted there. Leaflets were distributed to Ukrainian Jews which is reminiscent of the
Holocaust. These leaflets stated that Jews were to report their belongings and pay a fee of $50 or risk
their citizenship. Where the leaflets all a ploy to stir up controversy? Some believe so. The Chief
Rabbi of Ukraine gave an interview stating I am not going to comment on the origin of this
information. The Jewish community does not directly take part in political events. However the Jews
as citizens do participate in the process of rebuilding the new Ukraine. Last week the Head of
Ukrainian Jewish Congress, Vadim Rabinovich, and I have contacted all Rabbis of all Ukrainian
regions and enquired regarding any instances of alleged anti Semitism. Not one Rabbi reported
anything out of the ordinary. There is no anti Semitism in Ukraine, as such. However, I believe that
groups interested in promoting such beliefs could find a way provoke and support such thoughts. I
therefore address everyone, there is common grief and Ukraine must be rebuilt from the ruins. It is our
common problem and goal. Let us not exaggerate and focus on the Jewish or anti Semite subject.

How Audience Driven Performance Art Differ From Other...
How does audience driven performance art differ from other forms of performance art?
Introduction:
In recent years, a form of performance which relies as much on the audience as it does an artist has be
growing increasingly popular among those who appreciate the meta. There is a sort of curiosity
associated with participating in art and the creation of art which is refreshingly different from what is
often found in performance. In this paper, I will focus on the audience and their role in watching,
thinking about, interpreting, and changing performance art, I will not be interested in the intention of
any artists. It is especially important to focus on the interactions and feelings which are formed from
attending and participating in performance (even if that participation is simply viewing). Thus, the
works that I will be examining will have no spoken words because I feel that words serve to distract
from the interpretation of audience in performance that I will put forth. Therefore, the pieces I have
chosen are a kind of Invisible Theatre (a term that I have co opted from Augusto Boal), this Invisible
Theatre serves as the foundation of the analysis I will offer and is crucial to the discussion of the role
and effect of audience (277). Invisible Theatre is public theatre which involves the public as
participants in the action without their knowing it (Boal xxiii). The three pieces which I will examine,

The Dangers Of Texting And Driving
Another solution that has been put into practice is the fact that texting and driving is illegal. However,
the restriction of using mobile devices while driving is currently only applied in 39 states (Simon).
This makes it so that 11 states do not enact such legislation and therefore, this solution does not work.
Many of these states laws are generally not enforced due to the fact that it is difficult to execute.
Although it is illegal, the law has not stopped people from texting and driving. Because punishments
are not regularly recognized and are not strict enough, this dangerous crime is often overlooked. The
issue of texting and driving is often advertised in campaigns on signs, the radio, or television.
Although these advertisements encourage drivers not to participate in this hazardous habit, they are
just as disregarded as the law for restricted cell phone use. These signs often do not appeal to the
emotions of the audience in order to have the effect they are looking for. The ads would be more
effective if they brought in real life experiences and showed the consequences that occur by texting
and driving. The success of these ads may increase if they showed a person in jail for murder from
texting and driving or a person who may have been paralyzed from being in an accident that may have
been caused by distracted driving. In these cases, the audience will see the physical effects that this
problem causes and will have a better chance of remembering the ad and

Renewal by Andersen of New Jersey New York Metro replacement windows come with our exclusive
20/2/10 warranty that gives you peace of mind your windows will perform as represented for as long
as you live in your home. But, what does that really mean? Warranty claims can be confusing and
misleading for some consumers. Does a lifetime warranty mean you re cover for your life time? Until
the home collapses? Until the window shouldn t be expected to maintain structural integrity and
beauty? Consumers have a right to understand what replacement window dealers are offering before
they invest in new windows for their home. Here are a few things to look for as you consider
companies and warranty packages. All Promises, No Solutions Sadly, some replacement window
companies have warranty plans that seem to be intentionally worded to create ambivalence. Let s face
it, even though there are exceptionally manufactured replacement windows and patio doors that truly
will last for decades, there are cheap imitations that come with a very limited coverage term and
vague, hard to interpret rules if you ever need support or assistance with an issue. And, even with a
superb warranty, defects occasionally cause a problem. Plus, improper installation may void certain
parts of your warranty. So, whenever possible, consumers should choose a local company with a solid
reputation for only promising things they can delivery on, and then delivering with a smile when
something comes up. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Take time to read the full warranty. (Tip: If a company won t let you read the warranty before you sign

Computers Can Not Have Minds
Alan Turing, father of modern computers, created the Turing Machine in order to prove, through the
use of an imitation game, that computers can think. John Searle argued that the Turing Test is simply
just imitating, rather than thinking. Based on Searle s argument against the Turing Test, I think that
computers cannot have minds. Although Turing argues that computers can think, there are many
arguments, such as Searle s Chinese room argument, and defenses that I will present that support
Searle and his belief that computers do not understand the information they simulate and cannot think.
As stated above, the purpose of the Turing Machine is to prove that computers can think. A Turing
Machine is composed of a scanner with a tape made of paper running through it. This paper tape is
divided into squares. Each square on the tape contains a symbol, either a 0 of a 1. The machine, along
with two humans, will participate in an imitation game. Human A and the Turing Machine are hidden
from view of Human B and have a conversation in order for Human B to try to determine which of the
communicators is a robot, if either one is a robot. The machine s goal is to trick Human B into
thinking it (the machine) is the human. Turing states that if the machine is successful, then the
machine does have a mind. Turing s machine has the ability to answer any question presented to it,
and Turing saw this ability as a sign of extreme intelligence. On the other hand, Searle argued that this

Analysis Of Relationships In S. E. Hinton s Rumble Fish
S.E. Hinton wrote the novel Rumble Fish to focus on the main protagonist, Rusty James, living a
rough childhood in a small town. While focusing mostly on him, she also dives deep into his best
friend Steve. Rusty and Steve have an interesting relationship which brings out the positives and
negatives in one another. Steve is the complete opposite of Rusty, yet the two are closer than ever.
Rusty and the Motorcycle Boy were getting ready to head downtown to go to some parties and a bar.
Rusty did not feel safe going alone with just the Motorcycle Boy so he wondered if Steve would want
to go. Rusty wanted Steve to go in case the Motorcycle Boy forgot I was with him shows that Rusty

such a good kid, he frowns upon underage drinking. Rusty handed Steve the bottle, and to my
surprise, he took a drink. He never drank. I d been trying to get him to for years which shows the
influence Rusty has been attempting to have on Steve. Rusty has been peer pressuring Steve to be just
like him for all these years. Steve allowed himself to give in to the bad habits that Rusty has become
accustom to. Rusty has affected Steve in a negative way by nagging him about underage drinking. We
as readers are disappointed in the way that Rusty has pressured Steve into something he may regret
doing. Hinton shines light on the issues revolving around underage drinking and peer pressure. She
shows that even our closest friends can pressure us into something we really do not want to do. These
issues are a common problem within today s society and

The Dalai Lama, Before, During And After The Chinese Invasion
The universally recognized 14th Dalai Lama has tirelessly fought for the freedom for Tibet, during
and after the unlawful occupation of the Chinese. His non violence and political involvement for Tibet
had brought acknowledgment and respect from the rest of the world.
Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama, was born in 1934 in Eastern Tibet. He was hailed his predecessor
s incarnation at the age of two, and was enthroned in 1940. Traditionally, the role of the Dalai Lama is
the spiritual guide and leader of Tibet, creating a symbol of security and peace. Dalai Lama s are
rarely ever politically involved in Tibet.

The Dalai Lama continued to send delegations to both neighboring counties and also countries of
significant power, but all of the Dalai Lama s attempts went ignored, as China was at the time, of great
power and consequence, and an important contribution to trade. Therefore powerful countries did not
get involved with Tibet, in the fear of provoking influential China.
While the Dalai Lama remained in Tibet, his life was at stake. Tibet slowly went into a cataclysmic
effect of destruction and disorder. The freedom of speech was now lost to the Tibetan people, freedom
marches and movements were banned, the result in not complying with this unjust system was death
or brutal imprisonment for years at a time. Even though these protests were violently suppressed by
the Communist government and martial law was imposed in 1989, demonstrations against Chinese
rule have nevertheless continued.
Following Tibet s Liberation, Mao Zedong immediately established the Seventeen Point System,
which totally eliminated Tibet s past independence. Since then, almost one and a half million people in
Tibet have been slain, and over six thousand religious buildings have been demolished. These horrific
figures have shocked the world and brought about a great sense of remorse and compassion towards
the Tibetan people and the Dalai Lama, as they continue to resist the Chinese through the means of

The act of communicating is a universal practice shared and used by all human beings. It is so
universal that it holds true to many different definitions of its meaning. The act could be defined as the

between two or more individuals to share information, ideas, thoughts or feelings. Within the criminal
justice system communication is a very important process because of the sensitivity of the lives it may

Concert Report
The melody starts low, as a quiet whirring sound of the flute and oboe slowly envelops the hall. The
audience is quiet, hushed. Slowly yet steadily, the timpani and bass drum lays out a blanket solemn
theme. Another theme of clarinets and trumpets appears, complementing the previous, yet affirming
its own identity with an energetic, new twist of the melody.
My predilection for music can be associated to the thematic development in a concert band. For me,
music has become the spark of my intellectual curiosity with its infinite possibilities. There are
millions of combinations of time and key signatures, chords and melodies, crescendo (fast and swift)
and decrescendos (slow and soft) in the world of music that wait to be arranged to create the wonders
of melodies. My introduction to this world of vast possibilities was during my sophomore year in high

When asked about the most vital part of the body, people generally answer either the brain or the
heart. After all, the brain decides and the heart pumps the blood. However, the structure that always
goes unnoticed is the backbone. Yet, the backbone lets the brain carry out actions through the
intertwined spinal cord and helps filter blood cells for the heart to pump blood. In short, the backbone
synchronizes the body s functions, without which everything will be in chaos. The bass drum also
plays a similar role in a band. Sure, the shift between crescendo and decrescendo of the tenor
saxophone or the lively tune of flute and clarinet is the most noticeable part of a concert band, but the
bass drum is what keeps everything disciplined. If a bass drum beat is even a thousandth of a second
faster or slower than the desired tempo, the whole song ultimately breakdowns like the chain reaction.
Learning such an important instrument for nearly three years, I have grown to appreciate the modesty
that bass drum displays for such

Reason For European Imperialism
Imperialism, a policy in which one country seeks authority over another country by economic and
political domination. The Europeans at this time in history, were looking for resources and something
to help them show their national pride; the best way to do that was to imperialize different countries.
Africa, which was not industrialized, was seen as not capable to lead themselves into modernization.
The europeans as well as many other countries began to seek land in the divided, war filled country.
The reasons for europeans seeking imperialism is because of the strive for natural resources, the need
to show national pride, and thoughts upon racism.
In imperialism, natural resources where a large driving cause to the spread of authority all ... Show

An empire such as Britain requires an imperial race (Primrose). People from all over saw how
different people and cultures came from all over the world which create hate and a variety of
disapproval for others. African people were seen as hated, uncivilized people only because, they had
so many different cultures and different ways of living. If Africa was to be industrialized before other
countries came it would have been seen as a land that is respected because the people who live in it
are capable of industrialization. But because the land was not industrialized before imperialism racism
became a strong attacking point upon the uncivilized. France went with a fully developed race into
territories marked by barbarism and people who cannot develop their own land (Merlin). France in
this description sees themselves as superior to the Africans because, they do not have fighting within
their country and they are industrialized. Without their ability to come together as a country and grow
an economy France would be another Africa. Racism drove France to come to Africa and show their
superiority over them. Racism was a large reason for imperialism.
Africa was a resource rich, divided, different country. Every country that took a part in Africa s
imperialism saw this matter and took advantage. If Africa had time to figure out how to develop an
economy, unify with each other, and industrialize itself; imperialism from other countries would

Irish Ring Research Paper
If an archaeologist were to go into my room they would discover a silver ring that sits on top of a
bookshelf. The ring is small, about a size six. Halfway through, the band is interrupted by two hands
with cuffs holding a heart with a crown on it. The design is very detailed. The cuffs aren t perfectly
square, they re a little wider on the side distal to the hands. Five ridges about one centimeter apart are
on the cuffs. A protruding ring separates the cuffs and hands. The first four fingers hold the bottom of
the heart while the thumb holds the top of the heart. Each finger ends in a small fingernail marked by a
half circle. A lot of detail is used to differentiate each finger and fingernail. At its widest part, the heart

Based on the archaeologist s observations, it can be assumed that the ring was worn often but they
wouldn t be able to confirm that I wear this ring everyday or that it is actually a special type of ring
called a Claddagh ring. Nor would they be able to determine just how important this object is to me.
One of the reasons that this ring is so important to me is because it connects me to my Irish heritage.
Claddagh rings are a type of traditional Irish ring. I am fourth generation Irish and very in touch with
my heritage. Practicing tradition is very important to me and this ring itself has so much meaning in it.
The hands represent friendship, the heart represent love and the crown represents loyalty. Depending
on how one wears the ring their relationship status is represented. By wearing the ring on your left
hand with the bottom of the heart facing your palm you are saying that you are married, whereas if
you wear it on the same hand but with the bottom of the heart facing your fingertips you re no longer
saying you are married but engaged. You are representing that you are in a relationship if you wear it
on your right hand with the bottom of the heart facing your palm but if the bottom of the heart is

Basic Problem Of The Warehouse
1. Basic Problem In this case, the basic problem is that the current two Hiram Miller Office Products
Division warehouses are outdated. These warehouses are structurally unsound to be handling all
distributional activities. The old warehouses cannot meet the company s high level of sales of $33
million. The management team will need to source a solution to either relocate or cut back service
some classes of customers in the near future. 2. Support for Basic Problem The outdated warehouses
have been operating in a disorganized logistical fashion. There are three elevators in the main
warehouse, which are most often out of service, and when it is operational the high volume of
movements from each floor creates a bottleneck at the elevator. This forces the stock people to use the
stairwells. The six story, 80,000 sqaure foot warehouse on Jefferson Street, which was built in early
1950 s, was one of the oldest offices supply dealerships in the U.S. In this warehouse there are no
mechanized material handling equipment that is accompanied by weak floors. There are six docks that
are unable to accommodate 53 foot trailers. This small dock capacity creates a back up in the street of
8 10 trucks that resulted in violating traffic laws. Although the police department would turn their
heads the other way in exchange for a free shopping trip in the retail store. The limited dock space
forces shippers to be called once an order was complete to receive and ship. These space constraints

King Arthur
Are woman in the Arthurian legend depicted? The answer is found in King Arthur and his Knights of
The Round Table by Roger Lancelyn Green. The woman in the Arthurian legend were depicted
because they are tempting, cheaters, and liars.
The first example of the woman being tempting would be :
It seemed as if the horse was going to carry him right into the midst of the flood. Percivale tugged at
the bridle, but the horse would neither stop nor turn: to the very edge they came, and Percivale saw the
dark, foaming water roaring in front of him. Them he made the sign of the cross, and the horse reared
up suddenly, neighing wildly, and shook him from its back; then it plunged into the river, screaming
terribly, and was gone from sight; only it seemed that the water burnt after it (p. 250).
This quote shows that the woman the gave Sir Percivale the dark horse put upon a curse the horse. The
woman was a test to Sir Percivale so he shall not be tempted along his journey to the Holy Grail.
The second example of the woman being tempting is:
Sir, she mummered, noble Percivale, I am yours for ever and ever; of all men in the world I love only
you. So kiss me now; pledge me in this bowl of wine, and swear that henceforth you will be mine
alone, and do all things that I command you. Then Percivale pledged her in the strong wine, and bent
forward to kiss her on the lips. But as he did so he thought suddenly of Blanchefleur his own true lady

Rhetorical Analysis Of David Leonhardt s Deporting...
A Rhetorical Analysis of David Leonhardt s Deporting Dreamers 2017
The job of a writer is never done. New information is always being thrown at writers such as David
Leonhardt, begging to be judged and characterized, not as good nor bad, but worthy of reading.
Immigration is ingrained in our society as Americans, that s how America was born.
In this article, David Leonhardt assesses the ins and outs of illegal immigration, while simultaneously
stating his opinion on the matter. In this article, Leonhardt argues about the severity and use of
prosecutorial discretion on laws of immigration and how it affects the American people.
The author s credibility is established before, throughout, and at the end of the article by giving
sources from media news, such as CNN and other publications from the New York Times. The
problem with CNN being a media news source is that information isn t always proven true and is often
opinionated. On , Karen Douglas, Business Insider, 2017 , from a poll taken of 3000 random
participants, CNN was considered more or less distrustworthy. This poll supports the statistical
evidence that declares CNN s information 47% untrue or false on (CNN File PunditFact 2017) . If
David uses CNN for statistical reports to support his left sided point of view, how can we know if
what he says is even true? We can t. However, the author uses emotional reasoning and empathy to
sway the reader into understanding and accepting his point of view, even if the view is not 100% true.
In the first paragraph, the author presents the reader with multiple quotes from the Former White
House Press Secretary, Sean Spicer. Spicer argues about the subject of prosecutorial discretion against
Dreamer and uses Felony Tax Evasion to explain the absurdity of selectively choosing when to uphold
laws. The author does include a solution from Sean Spicer s quote, saying They should petition our
lawmakers and the government will change it (Spicer Paragraph three). This quote doesn t support the
author s point of view and leaves the reader confused. The author then proceeds to imply that the
President is, Taking to the Extreme when it comes to upholding the law. The author switches tones in

Child Trafficking China Essay
Child Trafficking
The loss of a child or not being able to keep one is one of the worst and hardest things a person can go
through. The one child policy in China is leading to more orphans being put through the unorganized
adoption process and it results in children being sent into child trafficking. In China the rate of
children being put through adoption has increased. The increase of orphans being put into adoption is
directly related to the one child policy that was placed in China. This policy prevents families from
having more than one child because of the high population rate. With the influx of children going in
and out of the adoption agencies it affects the authenticity of the process and is leading to children
being out in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the one child law has been in place it has raised the number of orphans going in and out of the
orphanages. With the higher number of children it leads to them being not watched as carefully and
put in the hands of the wrong people. Some of the people that adopt children will them sell them to
make a profit off their organs. Many organs are used but the kidneys make up 75% of the global illicit
trade in organs (Denis and Davison). The kidneys are being sold because of the rising rates of
diabetes, high blood pressure and heart problems (Denis and Davison) that are occurring more
commonly in people. With the demand for organs so high currently, the adoption rate is going to
increase to try and sell children for their organs. Especially with the birth rate still increasing, the
Chinese are still having kids and sending the girls to orphanages more often than boys. The one child
policy is affecting the organ trade because families are still having kids when they are not suppose to
and it is leaving children without families in orphanages. The children without the families are then
placed in danger of getting adopted by people that are selling them for their organs. Since some
kidneys can be sold for up to $200,000 (Denis and Davison) the demand for the organ is increasing
every day. The more organs that are sold the more

The Watergate Scandal Of The United States
Negligent Nixon: The Watergate Scandal
The President of the United States is one of the most coveted, but difficult positions to obtain in the
world. Every four years a new leader is elected to uphold the supreme laws of the land that make up
our constitution. The president is sworn into office on their inaugural day in January where they are
sworn to faithfully execute and support all laws in the constitution, delegate international matters, and
be an advocate for the people. As the new leader of the United States of America and, the free world
as a whole, the President of the United States has many roles and functions, including: Commander in
Chief, Chief Diplomat, Chief Legislator, Chief Magistrate, Chief Executive, Party Leader, Chief of
State, Foreign Policy Director, and Popular Leader.
The President of the United States is one of the most powerful people in the world, and therefore the
people place an immense amount of trust in them. The people want someone they can trust because
they are who will represent the entire country. When an elected President does not uphold or stay true
to their duties it can cause uproar within society. If a president acts in a way that smears their
reputation it is very difficult for them to regain the trust and support of the citizens. For many, a strong
bond is now broken and cannot be repaired. There have been few presidents who have broken bonds
with the American people, in particular: Richard Nixon. Nixon s involvement in the

Trigger Warnings Examples
Trigger warnings are being enforced around America in hopes of improving the way college students
learn. Trigger warnings originated on the internet as a way to flag certain material that could be
harmful to others. Many professors are now pushing for trigger warnings as a way to warn students
that ideas within their material could offend or emotionally harm them. While they are being
implemented across the country, their effects on students are proving to be more harmful than helpful
because they often hinder students education rather than further develop it. Applying trigger warnings
may cause professors to choose to negatively alter their material in order to attempt to teach it without
offending his or her students. In the article Survey ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They allow a colleges to coddle students. One instance of this can come from the article Con: Trigger
Warnings Impose Censorship in the Name of Sensitivity. Donald A. Downs, author and professor of
political science, law, and journalism at the University of Wisconsin, explains how trigger warnings
can negatively affect students. Downs states, Education should expose students to the depths of the
human condition, which unavoidably involves matters of good and evil, life and death. He then
claims, Trigger warnings assume that many students are not capable of handling the responsibilities of
adult citizenship. Students cannot possibly be expected to mentally or emotionally grow when they are
constantly being sheltered from the real world and all of its sometimes painful disputes. Trigger
warnings cater to the sensitive students and grant them no room to grow up on their own. Many
colleges are being overwhelmed by the positive effects that may come with trigger warnings, they
should heavily consider the negative ones as well. Enforcing trigger warnings in hopes of furthering
college education would unleash a surge of flaws into a school. Though trigger warnings may have
few upsides, if put into action they will prove themselves to be destructive to a school s learning

Amnesty To Illegal Immigrants Essay
U.S. government should not grant amnesty to illegal immigrants. When the government grant amnesty
to unauthorized immigrants, people who cross the U.S. border illegally would get legal status. As the
population of unauthorized immigrants increased and consequences of granting amnesty were shown,
questions about whether or not unauthorized immigrants should stay in the United States became
controversial. Although some people argue that illegal immigrants pay taxes and work hard, they are
actually harming our society politically and economically. For example, they abuse America public
services such as education and health care system, create heavy burdens for US taxpayers by receiving
more benefits than paying taxes, contribute to crime rates, and take jobs from legal citizens.

In other words, granting amnesty to illegal immigrants actually stimulate more people to enter our
state illegally. As a result, amnesty should not be granted to undocumented immigrants since it will
not help to reduce population nor do any good for the country.
Amnesty should not be granted to unauthorized immigrants due to its negative impacts to our society.
First, when people look back at the history of undocumented immigrants, they will discover that
passing amnesty will cause more people to come to the country illegally. Second, immigrants are tax
consumers, they created heavy burden for U.S. taxpayers. Third, immigrants take jobs from and lower
the wages of U.S. workers. Lastly, they were contributing to the country s crime rate. All these reasons

Race, Ethnicity, Art and Film Essay
This paper tries to analyze race relations, ethnicity and how art and film relates to these social issues
in their cultural context. Art and film have played vital roles in advocating for a society free of
ethnicity and racism. Using vivid descriptions and evidence of both text and a movie this paper seeks
to relate accordingly the concerned issues and factors affecting these social vices. It will demonstrate
race and ethnic tendencies in diverse cultural contexts.
As a demographic phenomenon, ethnicity is belonging to a specific ethnic group possessing distinct
culture and common origin. This is called inscriptive group identity. According to Said Edward (1993)

increased ethnic tensions. In addition, they actively promoted preferential treatment of ethnic groups
as a matter of policy by establishing systems of collaboration.
Social Darwinism is a socialist theory that tries to understand the reason behind colonization and other
social vices like ethnicity. It was used to justify numerous exploits which we classify as dubious moral
values today. For instance doctors were responsible for assisting to die. Social Darwinism states that
people especially colonizers failed to justify the reason why they forcefully seized land and resources
from weaker natives. This is also illustrated in the military affairs where the strongest military will
win. The application of social Darwinism has since provided the justification for more exploitative
forms of social capitalism where workers are usually paid less and yet they have worked for many
hours.
It also tries to explain the reasoning behind slavery and colonization. However, not all social
Darwinism is negative. There are positive results of social Darwinism.

The Rise of Mass Democracy
I. The Corrupt Bargain of 1824
i. After the Era of Good Feelings, politics was transformed. The big winner of this transformation was
the common man. Specifically, the common white man as universal white manhood suffrage (all white
men could vote) became the norm. ii. In the election of 1824, there were four towering candidates:
Andrew Jackson of Tennessee, Henry
Clay of Kentucky, William H. Crawford of Georgia, and John Q. Adams of Massachusetts.
1. All four called themselves Republicans.
2. Three were a favorite son of their respective region but Clay thought of himself as a national figure
(he was Speaker of the House and author of the American System ). iii. In the results, Jackson got the
most popular votes and the most electoral votes, but he failed to get the majority in the Electoral
College. Adams came in second in both, while Crawford was fourth in the popular vote but third in the
electoral votes. Clay was 4th in the electoral vote. iv. By the 12th Amendment, the top three electoral
vote getters would be voted upon in the House of
Reps. and the majority (over 50%) would be elected president.
v. Clay was eliminated, but he was the Speaker of the House, and since Crawford had recently
suffered a paralytic stroke and Clay hated Jackson, he threw his support behind John Q. Adams,
helping him become president.

Affluenza Case Study Essay
In Mr. Couch s case, I am on the side of nurture. While he still should have endured a greater
consequence, it is clear that Mr. Couch and other privileged kids are beginning to show symptoms of
affluenza. This seems to be a rising problem in modern society. However, there are other places to
learn right from wrong other than places like home. School could be used as a great example as a
place to learn what decisions should and should not be made. The issue with using school as an

Summary Of The Metamorphosis Of Narcissus
In The Persistence of Memory, time appears to be the theme, from the pocket watches detached from
their chains melting slowly on rocks and the branches on a tree, to the decay or death implied by the
swarming ants on the orange clock. The ants and melting clocks are recognizable images that Dali
places in an unfamiliar context and he renders in a different way, to systematise confusion and thus to
help discredit completely the world of reality . The strange formless human figure or face in the centre
could be interpreted from what we might imagine being in a dreamlike state. Modernity is emphasized
when you are thinking, what am I looking at? It is a play on reality, a visual brainteaser, and an attack
on the rational. Here is this absurd alien landscape with very naturalistic renderings, where one thing
can be something else and meanings are up to interpretation. For example, why have drooping clocks,
is this meant to be a provocative idea because time is so regimented, that rules us and is so associated
with the industrial world we live in, or is it representing time slipping away? The title of the painting
suggests an attack on time and memory, giving the audience a hallucinatory dream world vision
surrealism, a sense of the unexplained, extraordinary and inexplicable. The Metamorphosis of
Narcissus is an abstract painting based on Ovid s tale of Narcissus and Echo. The two main themes of
grief and passion, Dali separates by the use of two main tones. The title

Analysis Of Shooting An Elephant
Sometimes, the people around a man force him to give up his freedom by giving in to what the
audience expects. The person wants to make the audience pleased and wishes to keep his reputation
high. In the short story, Shooting an Elephant , George Orwell, who writes from his own experiences,
describes the life of the narrator, a policeman in a foreign country, Burma. The narrator feels forced to
shoot a wild elephant that has destroyed parts of a village. He does not want to shoot the elephant, but

However, from the narrator s perspective, he states, I had no intention of shooting the elephant I had

shoot the elephant. If he gives up, then the villagers will laugh and mock him for being afraid to kill
the elephant. The narrator knows that every white man s life in the East, was one long struggle not to
be laughed at . If he turns back, he will indicate his weakness and lack of power over the Burmese.
Therefore, he has no choice.
Orwell uses irony to emphasize the impossible position of foreign leaders in a native country. The
narrator s decision to murder the elephant proves his weakness not his strength; instead, with all the

What Are Some Examples Of Norm Violations
Some examples of violations that I committed to strangers are joining a table with a random couple at
a restaurant and looking over into someone s phone or newspaper while they are using them. In the
first incidence of the joining, a random couple at a restaurant was in front of witnesses because it is a
public space. In the second incident, I leaped over the side of the other individual in the public
transport and started reading their newspapers and the activities while they looked into their phones.
The people looked at me surprised at first but then became mad after they realized I was not giving up
and became protectorate of their space. The victims in both situations did not become mad at the first
instance but they were curious with what I was doing. The mood changed after several minutes of
realizing that I did not stop and thus the couple on a date asked me to leave the table and ask the
waiter for another table. In the second instance, in the public transport vehicle the individual became
mad at me and even shoved back and asked me to stop ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The person that was using their phone and reading the newspapers require their time and space
because the phone is a personal item and no individual should look into it without their permission. I
was not surprised at the people s reactions, however I was wondering how some of them were patient
to the way I interfered with their space and time. If we could reverse the role in any of the space
violations, I would have ended up boiling up with anger and even might get physical because people
should learn and respect the personal space I personally would have reacted worse compared to most
of the people that I violated because I love and prefer my space. Most people are protectorate of their
personal space and this makes it important to come up with behaviors that do not interfere with the

interview with Mrs. Cashin. She gave me some ensigns on an organization that I never knew even
existed. She had a very uplifting outlook on the organization. I also like the fact that as I talked to Mrs.

Compare And Contrast Two Different Approaches To Cognitive...
Compare and Contrast two different approaches to Cognitive Psychology
This essay will be focused on two different approaches to cognitive psychology: Cognitive
Neuropsychology and Cognitive Neuroscience. Cognitive Neuropsychology is concerned with the
patterns of cognitive performance and emphasis on the cognitive effects of brain damaged patients
who suffered lesions, injuries or diseases, providing vest information on normal human cognition.
(Eysenck and Keane 2015, p.5) Whereas cognitive neuroscience involves in depth study of our brain
and behaviours. As the brain contains numerous neurones and is so complicated, the cognitive
neuroscience emphasis on the biological side of the brain and focuses on the lobes that are divided
from the cerebral cortex.
The main similarity of cognitive neuropsychology and cognitive neuroscience is that they are both
interested in brain damaged patients and believe that different areas of the brain are highly specialised.
For example, one of the main theoretical assumptions of cognitive neuropsychology states modularity
, which means the modules in the cognitive system function independently, or separately of each other.
(Eysenck and Keane 2015, p.6) In addition, it is also explained that these modules do show domain
specificity , meaning the modules responds only to the specific kinds of stimuli but not the others.
Compare to cognitive neuroscience, it is believed that modules , as well as hubs are associated with

  • 2. How I Taught My Friend Essay My friend Ling asked me to help her with her English pronunciation at the beginning of this year. I tutored her for two weeks and we did not have very official tutoring time; so mostly, we communicated in English and I corrected her whenever I spotted a mistake. She is a Chinese girl who comes from Chengdu, and she has problems producing some of the sounds. For example, she always pronounces six as sex , which ultimately made her come to me since it kept embarrassing her. I first taught her some basic pronouncing rules, and then we began the spotting then correcting session. After reading Wiggins (2012) article about feedback, I think the way that I taught my friend was to have her learn from the feedback. For example, one day when we were in Mexico City, we were talking about how to make her pronunciation better. So I taught her the two sounds different tongue positions in the mouth. Then she became better but there were still times she mispronounced them. I told her to be careful with these sounds for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Researchers interpreted that because most men will tell themselves that their nightmare was just a dream. The next set was the percentage of Nightmares and Bizarre Dreams that each group had. Leaflets were distributed to Ukrainian Jews which is reminiscent of the Holocaust. These leaflets stated that Jews were to report their belongings and pay a fee of $50 or risk their citizenship. Where the leaflets all a ploy to stir up controversy? Some believe so. The Chief Rabbi of Ukraine gave an interview stating I am not going to comment on the origin of this information. The Jewish community does not directly take part in political events. However the Jews as citizens do participate in the process of rebuilding the new Ukraine. Last week the Head of Ukrainian Jewish Congress, Vadim Rabinovich, and I have contacted all Rabbis of all Ukrainian regions and enquired regarding any instances of alleged anti Semitism. Not one Rabbi reported anything out of the ordinary. There is no anti Semitism in Ukraine, as such. However, I believe that groups interested in promoting such beliefs could find a way provoke and support such thoughts. I therefore address everyone, there is common grief and Ukraine must be rebuilt from the ruins. It is our common problem and goal. • 7. How Audience Driven Performance Art Differ From Other... How does audience driven performance art differ from other forms of performance art? Introduction: In recent years, a form of performance which relies as much on the audience as it does an artist has be growing increasingly popular among those who appreciate the meta. There is a sort of curiosity associated with participating in art and the creation of art which is refreshingly different from what is often found in performance. In this paper, I will focus on the audience and their role in watching, thinking about, interpreting, and changing performance art, I will not be interested in the intention of any artists. It is especially important to focus on the interactions and feelings which are formed from attending and participating in performance (even if that participation is simply viewing). Thus, the works that I will be examining will have no spoken words because I feel that words serve to distract from the interpretation of audience in performance that I will put forth. Therefore, the pieces I have chosen are a kind of Invisible Theatre (a term that I have co opted from Augusto Boal), this Invisible Theatre serves as the foundation of the analysis I will offer and is crucial to the discussion of the role and effect of audience (277). Invisible Theatre is public theatre which involves the public as participants in the action without their knowing it (Boal xxiii). • 8. The Dangers Of Texting And Driving Another solution that has been put into practice is the fact that texting and driving is illegal. However, the restriction of using mobile devices while driving is currently only applied in 39 states (Simon). This makes it so that 11 states do not enact such legislation and therefore, this solution does not work. Many of these states laws are generally not enforced due to the fact that it is difficult to execute. Although it is illegal, the law has not stopped people from texting and driving. Because punishments are not regularly recognized and are not strict enough, this dangerous crime is often overlooked. The issue of texting and driving is often advertised in campaigns on signs, the radio, or television. Although these advertisements encourage drivers not to participate in this hazardous habit, they are just as disregarded as the law for restricted cell phone use. These signs often do not appeal to the emotions of the audience in order to have the effect they are looking for. The ads would be more effective if they brought in real life experiences and showed the consequences that occur by texting and driving. The success of these ads may increase if they showed a person in jail for murder from texting and driving or a person who may have been paralyzed from being in an accident that may have been caused by distracted driving. • 10. Computers Can Not Have Minds Alan Turing, father of modern computers, created the Turing Machine in order to prove, through the use of an imitation game, that computers can think. John Searle argued that the Turing Test is simply just imitating, rather than thinking. Based on Searle s argument against the Turing Test, I think that computers cannot have minds. Although Turing argues that computers can think, there are many arguments, such as Searle s Chinese room argument, and defenses that I will present that support Searle and his belief that computers do not understand the information they simulate and cannot think. As stated above, the purpose of the Turing Machine is to prove that computers can think. A Turing Machine is composed of a scanner with a tape made of paper running through it. This paper tape is divided into squares. Each square on the tape contains a symbol, either a 0 of a 1. The machine, along with two humans, will participate in an imitation game. Human A and the Turing Machine are hidden from view of Human B and have a conversation in order for Human B to try to determine which of the communicators is a robot, if either one is a robot. The machine s goal is to trick Human B into thinking it (the machine) is the human. Turing states that if the machine is successful, then the machine does have a mind. Turing s machine has the ability to answer any question presented to it, and Turing saw this ability as a sign of extreme intelligence. On the other hand, Searle argued that this ... Africa, which was not industrialized, was seen as not capable to lead themselves into modernization. The europeans as well as many other countries began to seek land in the divided, war filled country. If Africa was to be industrialized before other countries came it would have been seen as a land that is respected because the people who live in it are capable of industrialization. But because the land was not industrialized before imperialism racism became a strong attacking point upon the uncivilized. France went with a fully developed race into territories marked by barbarism and people who cannot develop their own land (Merlin). France in this description sees themselves as superior to the Africans because, they do not have fighting within their country and they are industrialized. The management team will need to source a solution to either relocate or cut back service some classes of customers in the near future. 2. The answer is found in King Arthur and his Knights of The Round Table by Roger Lancelyn Green. The woman in the Arthurian legend were depicted because they are tempting, cheaters, and liars. The first example of the woman being tempting would be : It seemed as if the horse was going to carry him right into the midst of the flood. Percivale tugged at the bridle, but the horse would neither stop nor turn: to the very edge they came, and Percivale saw the dark, foaming water roaring in front of him. Them he made the sign of the cross, and the horse reared up suddenly, neighing wildly, and shook him from its back; then it plunged into the river, screaming terribly, and was gone from sight; only it seemed that the water burnt after it (p. 250). This quote shows that the woman the gave Sir Percivale the dark horse put upon a curse the horse. The woman was a test to Sir Percivale so he shall not be tempted along his journey to the Holy Grail. The second example of the woman being tempting is: Sir, she mummered, noble Percivale, I am yours for ever and ever; of all men in the world I love only you. So kiss me now; pledge me in this bowl of wine, and swear that henceforth you will be mine alone, and do all things that I command you. Immigration is ingrained in our society as Americans, that s how America was born. In this article, David Leonhardt assesses the ins and outs of illegal immigration, while simultaneously stating his opinion on the matter. In this article, Leonhardt argues about the severity and use of prosecutorial discretion on laws of immigration and how it affects the American people. The problem with CNN being a media news source is that information isn t always proven true and is often opinionated. However, the author uses emotional reasoning and empathy to sway the reader into understanding and accepting his point of view, even if the view is not 100% true. In the first paragraph, the author presents the reader with multiple quotes from the Former White House Press Secretary, Sean Spicer. Spicer argues about the subject of prosecutorial discretion against Dreamer and uses Felony Tax Evasion to explain the absurdity of selectively choosing when to uphold laws. The author does include a solution from Sean Spicer s quote, saying They should petition our lawmakers and the government will change it (Spicer Paragraph three). The one child policy in China is leading to more orphans being put through the unorganized adoption process and it results in children being sent into child trafficking. In China the rate of children being put through adoption has increased. The increase of orphans being put into adoption is directly related to the one child policy that was placed in China. Some of the people that adopt children will them sell them to make a profit off their organs. Many organs are used but the kidneys make up 75% of the global illicit trade in organs (Denis and Davison). The kidneys are being sold because of the rising rates of diabetes, high blood pressure and heart problems (Denis and Davison) that are occurring more commonly in people. With the demand for organs so high currently, the adoption rate is going to increase to try and sell children for their organs. Especially with the birth rate still increasing, the Chinese are still having kids and sending the girls to orphanages more often than boys. The one child policy is affecting the organ trade because families are still having kids when they are not suppose to and it is leaving children without families in orphanages. Summary Of The Metamorphosis Of Narcissus In The Persistence of Memory, time appears to be the theme, from the pocket watches detached from their chains melting slowly on rocks and the branches on a tree, to the decay or death implied by the swarming ants on the orange clock. The ants and melting clocks are recognizable images that Dali places in an unfamiliar context and he renders in a different way, to systematise confusion and thus to help discredit completely the world of reality . The strange formless human figure or face in the centre could be interpreted from what we might imagine being in a dreamlike state. Modernity is emphasized when you are thinking, what am I looking at? It is a play on reality, a visual brainteaser, and an attack on the rational. Here is this absurd alien landscape with very naturalistic renderings, where one thing can be something else and meanings are up to interpretation. For example, why have drooping clocks, is this meant to be a provocative idea because time is so regimented, that rules us and is so associated with the industrial world we live in, or is it representing time slipping away? The title of the painting suggests an attack on time and memory, giving the audience a hallucinatory dream world vision surrealism, a sense of the unexplained, extraordinary and inexplicable.
