ARCHITECTURE DESIGN REPORT
TUTOR: MR SHEN FEI LAM

1.1 ABSTRACT
In a densely populated urban context, people don’t have much open spaces & natural environment for
their relaxation and recreational activities. Most of the citizens’ busy and modern lifestyle makes them
stay indoors in man made environments for most of their time & are likely to be disconnected from the
beauty and vastness of the natural environment that mother nature provides. Hence, this design project
aims to break the norm of traditional cultures of urban dwellers, using architecture as a tool for enriching
and shaping the surroundings and it’s communities to provide a conducive environment for all to
appreciate. I believe that architecture is not only about how it looks like and feels like, but it is also how it
works to fulfil the needs of the people.
1.2 INTRODUCTION
Nestled by the surrounding of Titiwangsa Lake Gardens. The Multimedia
Interactive Center emphasizes on the theme of humanity and sustainability,
combined with the technology that promotes creativity and interactivity with the
people living around the surrounding of the park. The building is designed to
reach out to the park while creating flexible and permeable spaces within. This
is achieved through the openable and expandable theatre, outdoor
amphitheatre and seating as well as expandable studios.
1.3 PROJECT AIMS & OBJECTIVE
Multimedia and technology surrounds us in our daily lives, without it there would
be no development, modernization and advancement and we would end up
living in the past. The Multimedia Interactive Center aims to use what we
already have best to further develop, inspire and create more local talents,
artists, filmmakers and creative minds. With the strategic location located just
beside Istana Budaya and the National Art Gallery, this building further extends
the surrounding buildings into the park, opening a space of potential to the
public.
• Located North of City Center
• Titiwangsa Lake Gardens as a District Park
- Provides for sports and recreational activities
• Close proximity to city attractions
• A ‘Kawasan Warisan’ which is also home to Istana Budaya
& National Art Gallery

2.3 URBAN STUDIES
Land Use Circulation
• Based on observations and research, the 3
main land uses of Titiwangsa Lake Gardens
consists of Residential, Educational and
Commercial.
• The zoning of districts suggests the function
and nature of the building, reflecting the
significance and value of cultural and
historical background on site.
• Site 4 is located along a one-way street which is
also one of the primary circulation
2.4 MACRO SITE ANALYSIS
• Consistent congestions along the hard edges which is the major access point into and out of the city
• Public transportation such as LRT, Monorail and Bus helps to combat congestions and can be an
alternative for people coming to Titiwangsa.
• The diagrams above shoes the overview of transportations, walking directions and 3 main access to the
park

S.W.O.T Analysis
Titiwangsa is a park that has a strategic location, vastness of views lake and
greenery. However, it is an urban park that lacks focal point and identity, with poor
master planning and scattered sports & recreational facilities, surrounded by
monotonously designed programmes. With the integration of technology into the
site. Therefore, this Multimedia Interactive Center aims to break that monotonous
activities of the site with a space for everyone to come and create, spectate and
motivate themselves to be creative.
3.2 PROGRAMME & PROJECT BRIEF
Design Intention
The aim of the design is to build a Multimedia Interactive
Center to integrate the vastness of the park into the
building in contrast to the congested city centre. The
project also aims to develop appreciation and knowledge of
multimedia and communication. The main program of the
building consists of a space of relief consisting of Live
studios, a flexible theatre, café and multipurpose halls
which can be used for galleries and events. The project
aims to attract existing park goers and the immediate
communities such as families, couples, joggers, students,
workers and residents.

3.3 PRECEDENT STUDIES
The aim of this precedent study is to study
the overlapping of open and closed
spaces of public and private areas,
creating a sense of openness throughout
the whole building while connecting spaces
and creating public interactions
3.4 SITE RESPONSE
Site study is conducted in response
to designing my building to suit the
orientations, views and circulations
on site.
3.5 DESIGN IDEA & DEVELOPMENT
Foreground- Middleground- Background
This plate introduces the site such as the
communities and activities through a film
that focuses on the foreground,
middle ground and the background- which is
the city to show who, what and why people
use the spaces
Conclusion:
3 different levels of viewing for different
shooting/performance setting
Stacking Analysis
From the Foreground-Background
analysis, I’ve came up with the 3
different viewing angles of the park
and the building. The aim of this
design is to make the building the
stage and the park the audience
and vice versa.
Conclusion:
Creates stacked stairs effect of
the building to cater to the 3
different criteria.
3.5 DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
3.6 SPATIAL PROGRAMMING AND SECTION
Theatre opens up to the park and to the ground floor as well as
first floor to allow for flexible seating and events
Wide outdoor space oriented to middle ground views of the park
for outdoor shooting/ night performances

4.1 Sustainable Feature & Elements
Reflective White Roof
Reflective white roof is one of the best roofing
solutions in an era that is focused on sustainability.
It could effectively reduce solar heat gain by
reflecting the sunlight thus reducing dependency of
cooling system and increase energy efficiency.
IBS System
This building is fully designed using IBS
construction which results in elimination of
conventional timber props and an obvious decrease
of supporting materials, through the use of
complete assembly elements or prop system for the
onsite casting process. This also speeds up
construction
Low E Double Glazing Windows
Reduces heat gain without obstruction
of light penetration
Openable sliding partitions with
Acoustic Glass and Cladding Façade
To allow maximum sunlight and
ventilation when needed

Final report ADP 2017

  • 3. 1.1 ABSTRACT In a densely populated urban context, people don’t have much open spaces & natural environment for their relaxation and recreational activities. Most of the citizens’ busy and modern lifestyle makes them stay indoors in man made environments for most of their time & are likely to be disconnected from the beauty and vastness of the natural environment that mother nature provides. Hence, this design project aims to break the norm of traditional cultures of urban dwellers, using architecture as a tool for enriching and shaping the surroundings and it’s communities to provide a conducive environment for all to appreciate. I believe that architecture is not only about how it looks like and feels like, but it is also how it works to fulfil the needs of the people.
  • 4. 1.2 INTRODUCTION Nestled by the surrounding of Titiwangsa Lake Gardens. The Multimedia Interactive Center emphasizes on the theme of humanity and sustainability, combined with the technology that promotes creativity and interactivity with the people living around the surrounding of the park. The building is designed to reach out to the park while creating flexible and permeable spaces within. This is achieved through the openable and expandable theatre, outdoor amphitheatre and seating as well as expandable studios. 1.3 PROJECT AIMS & OBJECTIVE Multimedia and technology surrounds us in our daily lives, without it there would be no development, modernization and advancement and we would end up living in the past. The Multimedia Interactive Center aims to use what we already have best to further develop, inspire and create more local talents, artists, filmmakers and creative minds. With the strategic location located just beside Istana Budaya and the National Art Gallery, this building further extends the surrounding buildings into the park, opening a space of potential to the public.

  • 25. 4.1 Sustainable Feature & Elements Reflective White Roof Reflective white roof is one of the best roofing solutions in an era that is focused on sustainability. It could effectively reduce solar heat gain by reflecting the sunlight thus reducing dependency of cooling system and increase energy efficiency. IBS System This building is fully designed using IBS construction which results in elimination of conventional timber props and an obvious decrease of supporting materials, through the use of complete assembly elements or prop system for the onsite casting process. This also speeds up construction Low E Double Glazing Windows Reduces heat gain without obstruction of light penetration
