1. How effective is the combination
of your main product and your
ancillary texts?
2. Music Video.
For my music video, I have decided to use
one of The 1975’s early songs on their
second EP (Extended Play) – Sex. As the song
has little lyrics, I have decided to have a
protagonist that is being followed by the
cameras. As the video is starting and finishing
with the clouds, it is a motif that I have
adapted in all three products but it most
noticeable in the music video. With these
clouds and the name of the album, the brand
identity is instantly recognisable especially
with the music video. The video also features
videos of the sea and places filled with lots of
people which juxtapose with the sense of
loneliness that the video has. With these all
interlocked, the fanbase/target audience
won’t have a hard time figuring out what this
video is made by ‘Rosie Breeze’.
This is the video so here you can see that the sea and the
clouds are very prominent as well as the ongoing theme of
loneliness. As well as this, the colours a cold pinks and blues
(which again is reflected throughout the promotional
package) these cold blues and pinks connote a sense of
isolation and loneliness which is the theme that I am going
for here. (click on the video so you will be able to view it!)
3. As the screen grabs show, they fit in with the brand identity and the reoccurring motifs that have developed throughout
the video are clearly evident. The kaleidoscope effect clearly shows and highlights the fact that the sea is a place of
loneliness and nothingness the same with the sky.
4. Digipak side 1
On the first side of my digipak,
the pictures clearly link with the
music video as the clouds, the
beach and the sea, link with the
main theme of the promotional
package. Also, throughout the
print products, I have used the
same font which again, the
audience and recognise and link
between the two print products.
The genre of the promotional
package is indie so the colour
scheme I have picked out fits
with the genre quite clearly as
they are cold colours and
stereotypically, that’s what the
genre is associates with
According to the Uses and Gratifications Theory, my first side of my digipak offers
community as when people by it, they might have a friend or a member of family
who like this artist so they might share it and talk about it within the community
that they’re in; whether that is friends or family. Also, the Uses and Gratifications
theory links with my side one of my digipak as it offers personal identity. This is
because a fan for example, might relate to the songs on the back of the digipak.
5. Digipak side 2
This is the second side of my digipak. Again,
this is fairly identifiable with the brand that I
am going for. I have decided to do the inside
left a different colour as it would be very
generic and the colours would be very
generic and therefore quite boring to look at.
Again, this goes with the combination with
the music video as the main protagonist is
featured on the inside cover. Not only this,
but thematically, it links with the music video
as again, he is represented as lonely. From
the high angle that I have taken this photo at
also highlights his vulnerability as he has
been made to look small and quite
insignificant.
6. In conclusion…
Overall, my promotional package is evidentially linked thematically,
visually and generically as they all follow the same theme of loneliness
as well as vulnerability. Furthermore, this also makes my promotional
package effective and coherent in what I was aiming to achieve. In
addition, the typography and the colours throughout the promotional
package, means I have constructed a brand style that my potential fan
base and easily recognise and identify with.
