PanTerra Core Goniometry
• PanTerra has over 25 years of experience in core
analysis and description applied to reservoir scale
models
• Fracture analysis on core is an integrated part of
core analysis, however over the years tools have
not kept up with technical progress
• This lead us to develop an advanced core
goniometer to better serve our clients

Applications
Geological applications:
• Orientation of fractures
• Fracture density
• Tectonic history
• Predictive fracture model
Production:
• Identify barriers to flow
• Optimise your well placing orientation
for production and water break
through
• Understanding production data
• Assess fracture contribution to flow
Outcrop data

4. 4
• High precision (0.2mm) and quick logging of structural and
sedimentary planes
• Core goniometry system provide real time, on the job
oriented structural analysis and significant rig-time
savings
• Able to measure fractures on up to 6 feet long (typically
3feet/1m) cores and not affected by magnetic field
distortion
• Service available on site, client warehouse or at PanTerra
premises

Advantages over other techniques
Compared to manual core goniometry
• Higher accuracy and consistency
• On site data acquisition and real time presentation
• Advanced data analysis and presentation software
Compared to borehole images
• Core goniometry has superior detail (on average
about 30 to 50% more features are visible)
• Unlike borehole images, detailed information on
fracture fill and cements and aperture, but also
reliable distinction between tectonic and induced
fractures
PanTerra advises combining data types, core
and borehole image data are complementary

Onsite recorded features:
Tectonic fractures :
(1) Apparent dip and azimuth
(2)Typology: i.e. open, closed, cemented, etc
(3) Length and aperture (surface conditions)
(4) Fracture surface filling: i.e. oil stain, drilling mud,
cement, slickenside, other mineralization
Induced fractures: i.e. unloading, petal, centerline
Beddings surfaces and unconformities
Stylolites/dissolution seams

Example of WellCAD Panel at 1:50 scale for non-oriented cores.
IMPORTANT: Orientation of the core and fractures requires
additional data such as; structural dip and well deviation,
Borehole Image calibration, or oriented scribeline.
